Welcome[edit]

Hello ComprehensiveCognoscente and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your contributions do not conform to our policies. For more information on this, see Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and limits on acceptable additions. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox (but beware that the contents of the sandbox are deleted frequently) rather than in articles.

If you still have questions, there is a Help desk, or you can click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.

I hope you enjoy editing and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Loopy30 (talk) 22:32, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Loopy30. Thank you for reaching out. I would like to know why some of my contributions are being reverted, if that's alright. Thanks ~~~~ ComprehensiveCognoscente (talk) 03:59, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Loopy30, I just want to say that all my edits were correct in spelling when I published it, but when I checked it again in my history, the spelling was wrong. Is that a bug or something? For example, in Aotea College, I changed black mould to black mold, but when I checked it again in my history, it says I edit black muld.
Thank you ComprehensiveCognoscente (talk) 05:15, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Although many of your grammar changes are just plain incorrect or not needed, if you are having problems with typographical errors working their way into your edits then I suggest that you always use (and check) the "Show Preview" button (on the source editor) or the "Review your changes" button (on the Visual Editor) before saving your edit. Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Mark Dominik Alscher. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism can result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 05:58, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Materialscientist. I would like to apologize. I just recently edited that article, and I reviewed it before I published it. I edited "copper," but when your message notified me and as I checked it again it says "coppe'r"
I have been experiencing these things as I am new to Wikipedia editing. Is this a bug here on Wikipedia? Thank you for reaching out and I apologize again. ComprehensiveCognoscente (talk) 06:05, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ComprehensiveCognoscente, I just reverted another of these and I see you haven't gotten a proper explanation. Wikipedia articles are written in several English dialects, either the one matching the subject of the article (Australian English for Australian people, for example) or whatever the article originally was written with (see WP:ENGVAR for the full thing). "Mould", mentioned above, is also a British English spelling, not a misspelling. Does that help clear things up? mi1yT·C 07:31, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the clarification@3mi1y. Do you have an explanation for my concern about what I mentioned to Materialsicentist? I edited "copper," but when I got notified that the article got reverted, I checked it again and this time it shows that I edited "coppe'r"
Thank you for your kind response. ComprehensiveCognoscente (talk) 07:37, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea about that one, unfortunately. I see you're using the visual editor, so my instinct is to blame that, but I have absolutely no evidence to support that and I've never seen this particular thing happen before. If you can get it to happen again (in your sandbox), I'm sure the developers would love to hear about it.
(I see "coppe,r" in that edit, actually. If you're seeing an apostrophe instead of a comma, that's even more weird.) mi1yT·C 07:48, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you@3mi1y. I hope this kind of error won't happen again, as it was never my intention to commit a mistake. ComprehensiveCognoscente (talk) 07:58, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your edits are, as far as I can tell, totally benign. You just caught the attention of the recent changes patrollers, and many of us use automated tools that leave those prewritten warnings when reverting. It's not a great experience when they get used on someone who's not a vandal, so apologies for that. mi1yT·C 08:12, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
