Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that you made a change to an article, French post offices in Crete, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with the references: How may i use a reference, which is already in the reference list?

Creteexpert (talk) 22:03, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The most common form of reference looks something like this when you are in edit mode:
So and so was born on February 29, 1904.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.example.com|title=Famous Birthdays}}</ref>
All you have to do is change it to
So and so was born on February 29, 1904.<ref name="XYZ">{{cite web|url=http://www.example.com|title=Famous Birthdays}}</ref>
where XYZ is something meaningful, like "example" or "FamousBirthdays".
Once you've done that, put
<ref name="XYZ" />
where you need it.
Be sure to preview your edit and make sure it looks good before you save.
If the original reference is not in the same section as where you need to put it, the preview will not work. You can either save your changes then undo the edit if it doesn't look good, or you can edit the whole page at one time so the preview will work.
If the reference style for the article you are using is different than the common one listed above, then you will need to see Wikipedia:Citing sources for help. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:24, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In action:
So and so was born on February 29, 1904.[1]
His wife was born on February 29, 1908.[1]

References

  1. ^ a b "Famous Birthdays".
