Flawed democracy

Hey Crh23. I inserted the flawed democracy comment because other nations on the list (Indonesia for example) have been called flawed democracy on the same page as well. According to the democracy index, Turkey is less democratic than Indonesia, so I see no reason why we should name Indonesia a flawed democracy but not Turkey. This is why I made the change on N-11. Grande Torino

Hi, I am translating the Italian wikipedia article of the Grande Torino.

All football clubs have a "History of.." article and this is my attempt to condense the history section on the main Torino article which is too long. My problem is that I don't think that source is WP:RELIABLE, as the majority of the site appears to be a games site. Having looked around for a bit, that source seems to be a mirror of www.pc.gov.au/inquiries/completed/ageing/technicalpapers/paper_10/technicalpaper10.pdf, so I'll change the ref to that, crh23 (talk) 20:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
"Gambling"
Gaming and betting is another major part of Australian pub culture. Legal gambling is a relatively new phenomenon in Australia, but illegal gaming has always been part of pub culture. Because ::legal betting on horse and dog races was for many years restricted to racetracks, and no off-track betting was permitted, illegal betting (usually known as "starting price" or SP bookmaking) ::proliferated. Pubs became a major venue for the collection of bets and the distribution of winnings. One Australian author has noted that SP bookmaking had become so widespread by the early ::20th century that constituted "a virtual national act of civil disobedience".
One of the betting games most closely associated with the Aussie pub was the coin game two-up, which was extremely popular during the 19th and earlier 20th century. It is most often ::servicemen would gather at local pubs to drink, reminisce and play two-up. Although still technically illegal, Anzac Day two-up games are now openly played in streets and laneways outside ::pubs and it has become a national institution that is now generally ignored by police.
Slot machines, known locally as "pokies", remain an important source of custom and revenue, although restrictive state-level licensing means that only a minority of pubs can operate them. In ::2002, over half of the $4 billion in gambling revenue collected by state governments came from pubs and clubs.[2]

Zoe Sugg

Hello, I changed her name to Zoë as it is her legal name–people might get confused pronouncing her name etc. The media usually spell Beyoncé's name as Beyonce but her name on Wikipedia is spelt correctly. I just do not get why people cannot correct her name. I was not trying to vandalise her page. I am really sorry if I come off as rude. That's OK, the reason I reverted the edit is because the article title doesn't use the Umlaut (where Beyoncé does) and none of the sources that I looked at use the Umlaut, including her own site. If you can find a source showing that it is proper to use the Umlaut, what I'd do is include a note at the beginning to explain, rather than changing all occurrences. Changing of the image on David Berry (actor)

I note that you reverted the image. I note also that you say the changed image does not comply with your rendering of what a lead image should be. I note that you say it is not a natural depiction of the subject. Since you've never met the actor, David Berry, I question how you could make a neutral determination as per WP: NOV guidelines as to what is a fair/natural representation of the actor, David Berry. Furthermore, the lead image is of the subject and "his wife" and not of the subject alone, and does not therefore, "illustrate the subject specifically". A submission for change will be made shortly. @Maestro dmb: The image you originally inserted wasn't terrible, but was inferior to the image it replaced (at least in my view), as it was un-natural looking to my eye. The one you have now added, however, is great: it looks natural and features only the subject of the article. It's copyright status is currently under investigation as it is not clear if the copyright holder (who I believe to be Brendon Thorne) has given permission to publish it under the stated license, but if permission is given then I consider it an indeed superior image for that article. @Neve-selbert: Until further consensus is established, I would recommend that you either leave it or ask Baking Soda to revert for the time being. inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Code 8 (2017 film)

While all are in agreement that an article on the projected 2017 film is premature, there is the general consensus that an article on the current short could be notable enough... that understood, the article has been edited and re-titled to be ABOUT the 2016 film. And since the corrected article is no longer about an unmade film, my own stance is that with these changes the article can now be kept as Code 8 and the projected 2017 film as a topic can be dealt with if and or when it happens. Pretty much for now we need only deal with a film which exists and is sourcable... and even the original nominator supports this view. Care to revisit the discussion? Thanks. The name of the institute is now "Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon" and the current website address is http://www.greatlakes.edu.in/gurgaon.

It looks to me like the Institute of Energy Management and Research has been bought by Great Lakes Institute of Management, so merely moving (what we call renaming on Wikipedia) the page could cause confusion. I'd recommend that Institute of Energy Management and Research be merged into Great Lakes Institute of Management. You can propose this by following the instructions on Wikipedia:Proposed mergers. @Butterfly1066: My only ideas are to try either the svwiki IRC [1] or the email address info-sv@wikimedia.org. If you email, make sure to explain your situation very clearly, providing links as necessary. It may help to focus on the talk page blocking, rather than just the block itself. Adding St Ives Shopping Village to Google Maps

@BugMenn: We don't control Google maps, but when I search "St. Ives Shopping Village" on Google maps I am taken here, which looks to me like it is what you are looking for. Google do use Wikipedia, but we can't control what they do with the information. Template:Coord#Caveats implies that they only pay attention to coordinates in the title, but St Ives Shopping Village has those already. I suspect that they will not use the Wikipedia information, as they already have data on the place from other sources (including a floor plan). While I am not an expert with regards to this matter (and I might be wrong), I wouldn't think that anyone who doesn't work for Google would know exactly how it works. —  crh 23  (Talk) 09:15, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

@Johnbod: The images in the galleries are tiny and difficult to properly look at. I had a look at some of the other articles on similar topics (1, 2, 3, 4), and that, along with the advice at WP:Gallery and the comment on Wikipedia:The Core Contest/Entries#Ancient Greek art, is why I made the choice to remove the galleries on Ancient Greek art. I boldly made the change and you reverted it so I assume it is controversial, I'll make a post on the relevant talk page to seek wider consensus. —  crh 23  (Talk) 18:55, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Recent changes

  • There is now a standard way to get the target of a redirect page from a Lua module. [11]

Problems

  • A new way to handle rollback was introduced. It broke some tools and scripts and was reverted. This will be re-planned after review. [12][13]
  • CentralNotice didn't work in some older browsers. This has now been fixed. [14]

Changes this week

  • When you edit a file or category page with the visual editor the rest of the page will be shown in its normal place. [15]
  • The Translate extension will get an edit summary field. [16]
  • A change to the <charinsert> feature could break some user scripts. Contact Bawolff if the "click to insert special characters" links in the edit window break on your wiki. [17][18]
  • Elasticsearch will be upgraded on Wikimedia wikis this week. This should not affect you, but if you have problems with the search function this is probably the reason. [19]
  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 June. It will be on all wikis from 2 June (calendar).

@Yassiiiiine: As far as I know, there is no way of doing this without using an external tool (I don't know of any that do this) or transcluding every page in that category onto one page, which is a very bad idea as it would be a huge page and would cause significant strain on the server. Changes this week

  • The list of other languages an article is available in will be shorter on small Wikipedias and non-Wikipedia projects. This is to make it easier to find the most relevant languages for each user. You will still be able to see the other languages. [31][32]
  • Alerts (the red badge) will not be automatically marked as read when you open the Notifications popup. [33]
  • When you get several thanks you can see them as one notification. This is instead of one notification for each thanks. [34]

It's a little scary actually - I've been away for the morning, so had an admin with a more lax approach to CSDs (if one exists) come along, the article could have been tagged and deleted before I had even had a chance to defend it. Sort of makes you think about how rigorous the deletion criteria have to be. —  crh 23  (Talk) 12:18, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
There are a couple of us who try and save CSDs / AfDs wherever it's practical - if I'm not about, MelanieN or Peridon might be able to look into it. I will as personal policy restore anything I delete that is not obvious vandalism, attack page or copyright violation as a draft on request, anyway. The CSD criteria is pretty well defined actually and I think admins are generally clueful, the problem is the NPP taggers, who require no qualifications whatsoever. Thanks for the ping, Ritchie333. I certainly agree that the article did not qualify for A7. I'm not sure it would pass AfD - could be borderline - but I personally would !vote "keep". The references already in the article provide lots more information that could be used to expand it - more about apps, for example, or more background about how the company was founded. I'm not available to do that myself right now, but I would encourage Crh23 to use the existing sources to put a little more flesh on the article. --MelanieN (talk) 20:05, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
I had doubts when looking at source 3, but then read on down.... I wouldn't have deleted it, and even if I had thought it wouldn't pass A7, I'd have offered to userfy it. (I prefer to userfy rather than draftify.) I'm surprised at the tagging - Gbawden is one of the more clueful taggers IMO. This was a fairly obvious case of not being written by a company intern (why, oh why, do companies get interns to write their articles?) or one of those outsourced apparently Indian or Pakistani outfits (similar comment...). I'd also support it at AfD if it came to hey lads hey. Fill it out a bit more, as best you can. It's a business with not a very long history - but one that looks profitable. (I think I'll get in touch with a young artist that's done some work for me to suggest she has a go in that line...) Peridon (talk) 21:20, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
