Speedy deletions

Hi. I have declined your speedy deletion requests for several RfA pages, as there is no time limit for them to be transcluded and go live - and one of them was only a week old. If you see RfA pages that you think will not be used, the best thing to do is have a word on the editor's talk page and ask if they plan to go ahead with them. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:10, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

You should know that the users of half of those of RfAs where informed that it will be deleted within 7 days over a week ago.—cyberpower ChatOffline 11:15, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Well, firstly, a notification to one person does not justify the deletion of someone else's RfA page!

I see a message left at User talk:Sohamlive, in which admin Nolelover is trying to interact with the user and says they will delete the page in a week or so. It's best just leave it to Nolelover to deal with. In any case, "it is a month old/week old RfA" is not a valid CSD:G6 "uncontroversial maintenance" reason, because there is no prescribed time limit.

There is a message at User talk:RomeAntic14 discussing RfA, but I see nothing about deleting the page - and the page is only 12 days old.

There doesn't appear to be anything relevant at User talk:Thehistorian10 (RfA page 13 days old, not the month that you claimed), or at User talk:OrenBochman (12 days), but I might have missed them - please provide diffs if I have.

(Btw, no need to leave me a Talkback - I always watch pages that I comment on) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:52, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

I think somewhere in the RfA policy page, it says somewhere in transcluded RfAs will be deleted after a week. I could be mistaken but, that was the driving force behind the CSDs.—cyberpower ChatOffline 11:55, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Don't think I've seen anything like that, but even if there are any such guidelines anywhere, it's always best to approach an untranscluded RfA page by contacting the editor in question and asking if they still wish to go ahead with it. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:09, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
I may be mistaken about that. I got that impression back then, when my WP:CLUE level was way down, when I was contemplating about running for adminship. Either way, I'll do that next time. How come I am not getting the new messages bar anymore. I just happened to have seen this through chance because I am performing some updates to my signatures, (trying to keep the char count down as much as possible).—cyberpower ChatOnline 13:22, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
OK, no worries - no idea why you're not getting the "New messages" notification, sorry. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:38, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh look! I'm getting it again. Must've been a temporary issue.—cyberpower ChatOnline 13:39, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

RfA

Was your comment at a recent RfA a typo or a subtle comment on the "hell that is RfA"? I don't know, but I hope you don't mind that I used it here.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 11:58, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

It was actually originally say help, but since my comment seems to be getting popular, I decided to leave it.—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:01, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Literally, a "heads up"

Cyber, I've been watchlisting your talkpage for a long time - even before you asked me to. Now that you're using the ridiculous "Jimmy Wales pops his head in" graphic, I'll be removing this from my list ... sorry. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:05, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

I still don't see how but, if I removed it, would you rewatchlist me?—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:21, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

JS

Can you write me some js so that every word I click is automatically wikilinked.--Deathlaser (talk) 18:33, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)I'm no expert in .js but I'd imagine it would be unfeasably hard or impossible. What if you wanted to correct a typo, or remove a wikilink? Sounds too similar to Midas' touch to me.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 18:54, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
It is out of my reach to do something like that at this time. At least I think so. Something like that would require scanning every word of the article and check if it exists. That means virtually every word is highlighted as a side effect and checking for existence could drain on WP server resources.—cyberpower ChatOnline 20:51, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

I realised that, but thought that it still applied. I'll go and check.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 20:56, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
A few admins did scold me about it but also added on that unless it's there as an April Fools joke, that it should be removed.—cyberpower ChatOnline 23:02, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Oh, okay, fine :) Two things....I thought that to shorten the number of characters in your sig, you could register an account, say User:щ, then link to that in your sig, and redirect to your page, reducing your sig by 24 characters :) Also, does my new userpage work in a browser and resolution other than Chrome, as I think it looks quite good now, but am concerned that users with a lower resolution may find in incoherent or very confused. What do you want it to look like?—cyberpower ChatOnline 23:17, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't know, maybe lilac and silver? I want to be able to change the colours around abit, see what fits.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 15:34, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
You obviously know HTML formatting. Why don't give me the format of what it's supposed to look like? Would like it to work with subpages too? If yes, should that subpage part of the address be formatted with it or just your name? What about the User and User talk portions of the page names? Would you like them to be visible or have certain formatting or not?—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 16:12, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
:) I think I know HTML formatting. Um, well I use a header, User:Gilderien/Tabs, so I guess any coding would have to include {{PAGENAME}} or something, but I don't know whether it would be possible to change the colour inside it. Like this? User:Gilderien? Maybe a bit darker - doesn't show up at all on your background.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:45, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Your username is practically invisible on my page. You may want to consider changing that. Let me ask you a few other questions.
The follow are a few examples of page titles. Please modify them accordingly to give me an understanding of how you want this to look. I will try to use this information to make a universal display title parameter that can be used anywhere in your userspace:
  1. User:Gilderien
  2. User talk:Gilderien
  3. User:Gilderien/Subpage
  4. User talk:Gilderien/Subpage
  5. User:Gilderien/Subpage/Subpage
  6. User talk:Gilderien/Subpage/Subpage

Thank you very much.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 19:39, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Up to how many subpages do you want? The current mods you gave me account for up to 2 subpages. If you want more, you're going to have to give me the color of those as well. In the meantime, I will try to create a universal code to accommodate your preferences.—cyberpower ChatOnline 19:43, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I think two would be more than sufficient. Thank you very much.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 19:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

WT:RFA

I just happened to come across this discussion and I thought I have a few words of advice for you. The Wikipedia community is actually more forgiving than you would think, and I do understand it can be quite tough at times editing on Wikipedia. What is more important is that you show that you have learnt from these experiences to become a better editor over time. - Mailer Diablo 09:24, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

If you'd like to know my opinion, the biggest problem I see is your impulsiveness, certainly not past blocks. If you could a) consider situations carefully and b) demonstrate that you are doing it - I think you'd be coming on a long way. HOW you can do that, I don't know, it's a very difficult thing to do, let alone show. WormTT(talk) 09:39, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
How am I demonstrating impulsiveness?—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 11:05, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I wish I could tell you. I honestly don't know, it's just an impression I get... WormTT(talk) 12:00, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
If I act impulsive, it would be nice to see some diffs and and an explanation of how that's impulsive so I can learn to avoid it.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 12:03, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Tell you what, if I see something specific, I'll let you know. WormTT(talk) 12:09, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Simple tip: Relax, take it easy! Check your work once before saving the edit (I always do that). You'll find editing a lot more enjoyable experience. - Mailer Diablo 16:25, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks everyone. :)—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 16:31, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Although I'm not able to dig up any specific diff's, here's my personal opinions. First, the fact that a block occurred is not going to stop anything as long as a) it's far enough in the past, and b) the behaviours that it was intended to correct have obviously been corrected. Indeed, have diff's in your pocket that show you corrected the behaviour over time before running, because you will get questioned on it. If you keep whining that "I'll never be an admin because of that block" then you're right, that kind of whining shows you don't have the maturity level required to be an admin. Second, in terms of "impulsive", my general feeling is that you will go for some time doing some great gnomish work, but then you suddenly and unexpectedly slip up while doing something that was highly visible. This may be something as seemingly innocuous as a providing a poor interpretation of a policy during a discussion, but it's the application of said policy that people look at in any RFA. That's all I have the time to comment on right now (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
It's obvious that I have corrected my behavior that the block was intended for but because of the nature of that block, the diffs providing what I did wrong have been oversighted. But I will take your advice into consideration.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 12:34, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Which is why I wrote on your talk page in the first place. Because I know that particular block was not meant to be punitive. My point is that we're all human, the community actually does accept a few occasional mistakes where the editor has learnt to move on, so you shouldn't worry too much about it. :) - Mailer Diablo 16:25, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. And thank you for giving me a second chance back in November.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 16:31, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Partly done

Can you explain this? You stated that the edit request was partly done; however, you didn't actually insert anything into the article and you didn't say what had to be done to include the full request. Ryan Vesey Review me! 11:55, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

With all the dones and not dones, the original statement that was to have been changed was no longer there so I assumed it was edited already. I think a more appropriate template might have been already done.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 11:59, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Just a suggestion - when you are undoing a mistaken rollback, it's a good idea to use "undo" rather than rollback. That way, you can put a message "mistaken rollback" and you don't accidently do it twice. WormTT(talk)

The bot will tag any file that is listed in MediaWiki:Bad image list. It must be removed there as well before it stops tagging it.—cyberpower ChatOffline 11:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay then, I'll file an edit request. Thanks! David1217 13:55, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
If there are anymore problems with Cyberbot I, just let me know. If I don't answer, feel free to shut down the task yourself until I respond.—cyberpower ChatOnline 14:01, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Friends List

Can I join it, please? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 18:57, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

In order to join it, I need to know you and trust you as well as interact with you. Non-admins on my friends list automatically get my support if they go through an RfA.—cyberpower ChatOnline 18:59, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
What can I do to get your trust? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:05, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Just keep doing what your doing and maintain a close interaction with me. This will allow me to judge you based on interactions you and I have with each other.—cyberpower ChatOnline 19:08, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! See you around! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:09, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Cyberbot I on Simple English Wikipedia

simple:User:Cyberbot I removed categories I added to pages on Simple English Wikipedia. They were adminstats template pages for users who are no longer admins, like simple:Template:Adminstats/Bluegoblin7. Is it possible to add categories to such pages without the bot removing them? My goal is to get these pages out of the list of uncategorized templates. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:18, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. That would require modification oft become to allow edits be made to template. These templates are prone to vandalism so I would rather not as the code is the same as the one used on this wiki. I can however have a specified category installed into the code that adds the category by default. Which categories did you have in mind?—cyberpower ChatOnline 15:00, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Articleinfo

I saw your posts re:Articleinfo tool. I have a small project I've been avoiding, because it is boring and tedious, but if I understand that tool, it may do some of the work for me. Please let me know if your attempts to resurrect it are successful.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 15:01, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Will do.—cyberpower ChatOnline 15:02, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

A bowl of strawberries for you!

I must say that your signature idea is very good. However do you change your preferences manually or do you use any code for it? ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 15:31, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
It's automated. Look at the source code for this sub routine that automatically changes my status, this sub routine that automatically changes my signature to suite the holiday, my primary signature, and the page that puts it all together. My online status can be overrided here. For immediate display purposes you can override status and season by feeding the signature template status parameters. I have JavaScript code that allows me to change my status with one click of a button.—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
If you don't mind, can you give me that JavaScript which allows th change the status? :) ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 16:25, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
You can find it under User:Cyberpower678/statusChanger2.js. You're going to have to make some modifications first before you can use it in your userspace.—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:34, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Do you have any idea what spanish wiki uses? Every editor has a button available to change their status. Ryan Vesey Review me! 16:37, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
No. I've never been there. All I know that the script presented produces links to allow you to change your status with a single click.—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:40, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

Crunch, crunch!

Here are some chips to go with your fish!

is probably needed for this ... strength of arguments was the key - and when a good chunk of admin corps don't trust them with the tools yet (and for eloquently-stated reasons) then the Bureaucrat obviously made the right decision for now (✉→BWilkins←✎) 13:34, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Wow!! We've got a trout war going on. The first two sentences weren't supposed to be taken seriously. I guess that was hard to tell but I still think he deserved a cheeseburger for enduring it. Thank you for the trout and fries. I love fish. :)—cyberpower ChatOnline 13:39, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Nope, the first two sentences come across poorly ... someone else has already disagreed with you on Ryan's page too ... not well thought out, although as the Chips above show, I know you meant well (✉→BWilkins←✎) 13:44, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
I attempted to clarify on his page. Hopefully that fixes it.—cyberpower ChatOnline 14:11, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Name at top of userpage

Hey, how do you get your username at the top of your userpage to change location, color, etc.? I am interested in doing something like that on my userpage, and I noticed you had it changed, so I'm just wondering how you do it. Thank you. StringTheory11 17:13, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

I can produce the string for you. Are you familiar with HTML formatting? If so, how do you wish it to look?—cyberpower ChatOnline 19:42, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
I was just thinking about changing the color, and maybe making it italic, bold, or shadowed. Nothing near as drastic as yours. Sorry for the delayed reply. BTW, pokémon is awesome. StringTheory11 02:12, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
You want to use the {{DISPLAYTITLE:your title here}} function.—cyberpower ChatOffline 10:39, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
I just tried using DISPLAYTITLE and failed miserably. The code is still on my userpage. StringTheory11 04:43, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
The DISPLAYTITLE parameter will only work if all letters and symbols that the title of the page is are present. For example your userpage would need the parameter with user:stringtheory11 in it. There is code that can allow you to remove the the user: portion of it.—cyberpower ChatOffline 10:10, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

How do I get on that friends list? Why don't you munch on the fishy greasy goodness while you think about it...

In order to join it, Cyberpower needs to know you and trust you as well as interact with you  — TheSpecialUser (TSU) 03:49, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Popular during lent is a massive understatement. We used to have 16 filet's up at a time during lent. During the rush hours, we actually got rid of a McNuggets tray and put in another tray of fish. For a large portion of the rest of the year we cooked the fish to order because people rarely buy it. Ryan Vesey Review me! 04:07, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
On another note, you've got something of a smorgasbord on your talk page. Virtual you will never go hungry. Ryan Vesey Review me! 04:08, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
A suggestion cyberpower; create a separate section in you friend list titled something like "How to get in my friend list" and give your criteria.  — TheSpecialUser (TSU) 05:05, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Haha thanks although, I'm not the biggest fan of McDonalds products. It's the thought that counts though. My WikiFriends above already answered what my requirements. Keep interacting with me and popup in places that I tend to edit so I can gather an opinion of you. @TSU: I actually prefer them to talk to me so I can actively see who's trying to be my friend. ; )—cyberpower ChatOffline 10:14, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

RFA code

What code do you use to display the current nominations for RFA on your talk page. I want to add it to User:Edinburgh Wanderer/Links but cant work it out from your page.Edinburgh Wanderer 19:34, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

He uses {{Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard/RfA Report}} Most that I have seen use {{User:TParis/RfX Report}}. I honestly don't know the difference, but I feel that either will work for you. Ryan Vesey Review me! 19:41, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Transclusions

Do you know of any way to transclude the first line of this page? As you can see from my user page, I have started a friends list, but as not everyone has a status updater, I was trying to list the date and time of the last edit so I can see who's likely to be online. Thanks--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:41, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Wouldn't that violate their privacy? (✉→BWilkins←✎) 16:47, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
It is not a hidden page, appears in most signatures, and is very easy to find. It is also already shown in gadgets such as NavPop-ups.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Worm that turned has a status updater. I believe yours is a little bulky though. To answer your question, Special Pages cannot be transcluded as they are software pages and not pages made from wikimarkup. If you would like, I can propose a simpler way of indicating the status so you don't have a big random status bar in the middle of your page. I could also probably develop a bot that mark certain users online and not based on their contributions.—cyberpower ChatOnline 18:04, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
I know, but I was testing using the first name on the list. What do you mean by my status updater being a bit bulky? Do you mean the table? Or the one in the header? Also, I'm sure you could develop such a bot, but it would be unlikely to be approved.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 18:10, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
The bot wouldn't need approval as it makes its edits inside userspace. What I mean by is, you have a friends list with me on it, I am honored by the way, and you have that big red or green status bar transcluded on it making it bulky. Wouldn't it look nicer if it used just the word online or offline?—cyberpower ChatOnline 18:15, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
It would look better, but you would have to have a specific extra sub-page which displayed the word "Online" or "Offline" dependent on your main bar. Also, yes, if the bot was only making edits in its own userspace then it would not require approval, but if it was updating often enough to be useful (5 minutes or so) then the hundreds/thousands of edits which resulted would be seen as putting unnecessary load on the server.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 18:36, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Replace what you have with {{#switch: {{User:Cyberpower678/Statussig}} |grey=Inactive |black=Absent |brown=Temporarily Online |red=Offline |darkorange=Limited Access |olive=Online| green=Huggling| #default=Unknown}}cyberpower ChatOnline 18:42, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
