Rollback?

You may or may not have heard that the rollback admin tool can now be given to non-admins. As a longstanding trusted user I see no reason why you shouldn't have it, so if you want me to enable it, drop a note on my talk page. Make sure you read Wikipedia:Rollback feature thoroughly first though! (short version: it should only be used for straightforward vandalism reverts, not anything which would require explaining in an edit summary. If in doubt don't use it). Jon Beswetherick is on a 1 month loan from Salisbury City to Weston-super-Mare as stated http://www.confsouth.co.uk/transfers.htm and http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/sport/salisburysportnews/display.var.1977544.0.craig_goes_out_on_loan.php here. Billy Mosforth

Thanks for the tip off. I've merged the two articles. I didn't transfer the reference to Arjen Robben as I couldn't find any references (the only page that mentions both players was on wikipedia and its clones) and the two players careers are over a century apart making comparisons unlikely. josh (talk) 19:11, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Football

Thanks for your message. No, I'm not going through them - just happened to have them come up as Random articles. Pedantic of me perhaps, but a club is singular (so's a band or group or party come to that) and it grates on my memories of being taught English grammar at school to have something so simple so wrong. I can just about bear "Tottenham Hotspur were the best team*....." and the implicit understanding that Tottenham Hotspur is its individuals, but "The club were beaten..." is a singular too far. Re: Just curious

First, I don't believe there is any difference between any of those things. However, of the things you allude to, the edit I made only changed <br> to <br />, and that's just something I do when I'm making other edits. I wouldn't do it just for the sake of doing it. As for the {{height}} to {{convert}} change, the {{height}} template is now deprecated and has had its functionality taken over by {{convert}}. Finally, I also changed hyphens for endashes, which is per WP:DASH. – PeeJay 14:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Alan Shearer

Just wondering what your source is for changing Shearer's total league goals. Nickpullar explained the reason for his "correction" of it both on Shearer's talk page and here. - Dudesleeper / Talk 17:58, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note - as far as I can see, his arithmetic is wrong. If you look at the 2001-02 results at [1], Shearer did score 27 goals in total but 4 of those were cup goals; 2 vs. Ipswich & 1 each vs. Palace and Peterborough. Thus, his league goals in 2001-02 were 23, not 24. This ties up with the totals at Soccerbase and www. allfootballers.com. I was meaning to leave a note on the talk page, but family life got in the way. I'll do it straightaway. If you don't agree, I'll have a closer look at the individual match results. Many thanks for your answer. Yes, of course, this helps a lot! I have seen, that Edward was not the name he was commonly known. But I was pondering why you did not prefer Gordon? If you prefer Dundas I think it would be good to add some sources, because the two sources now added on his page show him as Gordon, so this does not correspond. By the way, do you have any info (date of birth/death) for the two red links in the 1912 squad of England (Walter Bailey and Samuel Sanders)? Article titles

There are actually two issues here. One is whether to use the term "footballer" which may be seen as a localized term (which are frowned upon) or "football player" which of course could be confused with American/Canadian football; this being an American-based website, it would be correct to use the term "soccer player" and possibly preferred for this reason. The second issue is in using the year of birth in the title -- just because it's used by a number of articles doesn't make it correct under MoS. But as I say I need to check this out. The fact we have 2 football players with the same name complicates matters. 23skidoo (talk) 12:49, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
