Request reason:

Why can I edit pages from some IP addresses, while not from others? Since I am logged in with my username, you don't need a unique IP address to establish my identity... I am connected from the public library right now. So PLEASE ONLY BLOCK UNAUTHENTICATED USERS FROM SUCH IPs / domains in the future! DaemonischEngel (talk) 16:19, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

The IP address you're using has been blocked, because it acts like a proxy server. While we could grant you IP Block Exemption, this would only be done if there was an actual need for you to edit from this IP address. PhilKnight (talk) 20:50, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I do not see a block on your account. Please post below this message the exact message which you see when you attempt to edit. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:45, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a copy and paste of the blocking message:
You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:
You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia.
You are still able to view pages, but you are not currently able to edit, move, or create them.

The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because the IP range you are editing from is a web host provider. Since your IP acts like a proxy, because it hides your IP address, it has been blocked. To prevent abuse, these IPs may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you do not have any other way to edit Wikipedia, you will need to request an IP Block Exemption. If this is the case, please request to be unblocked using the

Request reason:

Yes I do need to edit pages and improve Wiki content! Please grant me the IP Block exemption. As said above, as a logged in user, you don't need my IP address to authenticate my contributions unequivocally! According to the IP Block Exemption guidelines, under section "Used to bypass an IP address range block", I should qualify automatically for an unblock:

Who may request
A user affected by an IP address block that is unrelated to their editing and that prevents them editing with a logged-in account.
How to request
Request IP address block exemption as part of an unblock request. You must ask from your registered account.

Decline reason:

We cannot grant you IPBE through this process. You must go to that page and use the OTRS interface to request it. This is therefore a procedural decline. — Daniel Case (talk) 03:53, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

template, and provide a clear reason why you need to use a webhost. If you would prefer to do so in confidentiality, please contact functionaries at functionaries-en@lists.wikimedia.org. Furthermore, your IP address may also be blocked because there are proxies on it.

Admins: Before applying IPBE, a checkuser needs to take a look at the account. This can be requested most easily at SPI Quick Checkuser Requests.

Unblocking an IP or IP range with this template is highly discouraged without at least contacting the blocking administrator.
This block has been set to expire: 18:47, 19 January 2015.
Even if blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page and email other editors and administrators.

Daniel Case (talk) 14:07, 22 September 2014 (UTC) To explain a little bit more clearly: If you want IPBE for the IP you usually edit from, go here and follow the directions to make a request via OTRS. A request like yours has to be handled this way. Daniel Case (talk) 16:35, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Warning icon Hello DaemonischEngel, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Cody has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. VeryCrocker (talk) 21:35, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Talk pages[edit]

Hello. Thanks for the kitten. Just thought I'd point out a couple of conventions which make communication easier around here.

  1. Sign your messages by adding ~~~~ at the end. That way, people can see who the message is from and what time it was left.
  2. If you're starting a new thread, use the "New section" button at the top of the talk page. This will allow you to start a new section for the discussion, under its own heading, and will automatically put the section at the bottom of the page.

You can learn more about talk pages at Help:Using talk pages. Regards, VeryCrocker (talk) 10:20, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
