Senran Kagura
Hey, DTL. I noticed you edited the Senran Kagura page, and that got me to wondering whether you might be interested in helping me split the article up into more manageable chunks. I was thinking the "core" (3DS) games could be placed in one article, and all the spin-offs (non-3DS) games in another; and the current article can contain all the other Senran Kagura media, and a one-paragraph summary of and link to each of the game articles, core and spin-off. What do you think? Would you be interested in helping me with that? I'm new here, so I'm not very confident with all of the mark-up and procedures, yet. (Feel free to just ping me with each reply, instead of leaving a talkback link on my page. That way I'll know when you've replied.) Willhesucceed (talk) 06:37, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hey User:Willhesucceed! It looks like you've been doing some good work on that page, so I think given the way it is currently structured the process of splitting should be relatively simple. The split proposal has been around for ages, so I'm glad someone is finally taken a proactive role! I'm happy to help in whatever way you might need - I'm willing to upload boxart and screenshots and write up the Fair Use rationales, for example. I think there is some special policy about copy-paste splitting, so we'll need to make sure that is adhered to in terms of how the edit history is managed, but I believe in this context it'll just be a simple note on the talk page.
- I think Burst (Containing Skirting Shadows) is noteworthy for its own article, and probably Shinovi Versus, with 2 and the others contained in the main article with the possibility of being split off as they become more known. It seems very likely that 2 will be localised at some point, so if that happens it could eventually get its own article too.
- Thanks! DarkToonLink 08:18, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Your suggestion is better. All we (you? heh) have to do is create the new articles, copy-paste the content and references, and then fill in the tabular info. Willhesucceed (talk) 18:30, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- I should probably add that I'll help with what I can, obviously. Just tell me what you want me to do. Provided it's not create a new article, I'll gladly do it. Willhesucceed (talk) 19:22, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- User:Willhesucceed - I won't really be able to do this for around another 7 hours(!) because I obviously have commitments in real life, but when we're ready I'm absolutely happy to create the necessary articles - but most of them would already exist as redirects anyway, so we don't even need to make a new article. Feel free to be bold and make any changes you need to the new articles. It'll just be a matter of sorting out the infoboxes and everything like that. Thanks! DarkToonLink 01:24, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- I checked. There don't appear to be any redirect pages, unfortunately. I'm not in that much of a hurry to get it done. No rush. :) Willhesucceed (talk) 04:02, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- User:Willhesucceed - Ok, thanks. I've started to do a bit of preparation, but we can probably just get it done this evening (Sorry but I don't know what time zone you're in) if you're up for it. I'm just not in a position to go about doing it all right at the moment, sorry... DarkToonLink 04:12, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Another thing is that we'll need to sort out some of the information for the various infobox fields. I can watch the Burst credits again for some of that, I guess. And make sure the refs don't break. The relevant documentation is here. DarkToonLink 10:08, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't have any of the games—I just saw the article was incomplete/outdated and decided to do something about it—so I don't believe I can help you much with the credits. Again, sorry. :) Maybe it's better if I create the new articles and you take care of the images and credits instead. (I'll track down images for you to consider and include. I remember there being special rules and markup and stuff for their inclusion, and that scares me.) The SPLIT page is pretty detailed, so I can probably handle just transferring text. It will be incomplete until we add stuff, but there's no reason not to go ahead with it already, I don't think. Willhesucceed (talk) 04:45, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, this is quite a bit of work, especially with the redirects we'll have to put in, but it's not impossible to do over a few days to a week. Willhesucceed (talk) 04:48, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm happy to handle the finer details and polish and expansion on things. Feel free to get started with the transfer whenever you like, although I won't be able to do much on the weekend as I will be at PAX Australia. Thanks! DarkToonLink 05:40, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- Lucky you. (I'm jealous. :P) Quick question: the titles have odd characters. Do I make the main article with those characters, or with the "pure" 26 English letters? If the latter, do I have to make redirects with the odd characters? Sorry to bug you. Willhesucceed (talk) 05:50, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- User:Willhesucceed - Macrons and such are absolutely fine, so leave them in the titles. You just aren't meant to use weird symbols or stylised grammar in titles, but anything readable is generally fine. DarkToonLink 06:51, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
- Alright, I went ahead and split off the two titles that have enough content/references. Unfortunately, the second split broke the image placement of the image associated with Senran Kagura 2 on the main Senran Kagura page. Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus needs some additional information added re: gameplay (edit: and an image, which you'll have to handle), and I'll get to that after I finish work. Willhesucceed (talk) 06:41, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- User:Willhesucceed - The infobox is far too long. I'm not sure about an exact policy, but it probably makes sense to remove the game segments and just let each game have its own page contain the vg infobox. DarkToonLink 12:23, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
