You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Singer/songwriter Angel Sessions requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for uploading File:Angelsessions-kdya-event.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. Speedy deletion nomination of Hearts of Broken Love.ogg

[edit]

Hello Demetrius Guidry,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Hearts of Broken Love.ogg for deletion, because it's too short to identify the subject of the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Richard Yin (talk) 23:07, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and conflict of interest editing

[edit]

Hi Demetrius Guidry,

I see you have been working hard on the draft for Angel Sessions. I also saw your post here at the Village Pump where you state that you have both a personal and professional relationship with the subject of your draft. Since you seem to be fairly new to Wikipedia I thought I'd mention that conflict of interest (COI) editing tends to be something discouraged by the Wikipedia community, particularly when it comes to creating and editing articles about living people. There are certain cases where such editing is considered to be OK, but they tend to be for minor things such as spelling mistakes, format errors, etc. Since "Angel Sessions" is still only a draft and is being proposed using the Articles for Creation process, COI editing is not so problematic and such editors are given a little extra room to maneuver. Once the draft is approved and becomes an article, however, COI does become a concern which can lead other editors to question the neutral point of view of the article. It might be a good idea for you to review Wikipedia's "Plain and simple conflict of interest guide", "Advice for editors who may have a conflict of interest" and perhaps even "Relationship between the subject, the article, and Wikipedia" just so you are familiar with Wikipedia's rules regarding COI editing.

Please note that I am not accusing you of doing anything inappropriate. I am just pointing out certain Wikipedia policies and guidelines that you might not be aware of in an attempt to help you avoid future problems. I have added a connected contributor template to Draft talk:Angel Sessions just to let other know that you have declared a COI with "Angel Sessions". This is purely for informational purposes only and is not meant to as a sanction against you in any way. If you have any questions about any of this, then please feel free to ask me, post a question at the Wikipedia Teahouse, or add a help template to your user talk page. - Marchjuly (talk) 17:33, 27 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for Draft:Angel Sessions

[edit]

Hi Demetrius Guidry,

For some reason, I still have your draft on my watchlist. I saw you edited a few times earlier today, so I'd thought I'd take a look. I am by no means an super-experienced editor, but here are a few things I noticed.

  1. You keep referring to subject "Angel". Referring to her by her first name may seem quite natural out in the real world, but it is not very encyclopedic sounding. Please take a look at WP:SURNAME. Constantly using her first name may lead others to question your neutrality and make it seem like more of a personal webpage than an encyclopedia article.
  2. Please take a look at MOS:SECTIONCAPS. Capitalizing the first letter of each word in a section header may again seem quite natural, but it's not really how Wikipedia does it.
  3. Please take a look at WP:LEAD. One sentence leads are not really a good start for an article. A lead (or "lede") should be a summary of what is to come. It should encourage the reader to want to read more. You don't have to go overboard, but one sentence simply is not going to get you in the door of the review process. I suggest you take a look at some featured articles of artists or musicians and how their leads are written. It might be a good way to see what is and what isn't OK. If "Angel Sessions" is her professional name, then you might also want to add her birth name to the lead as well. Please be aware of WP:BLPPRIVACY and try not to add too much personal information from primary sources.
  4. "Magazine and news article write ups" probably should be written more as text than as simply a list of links per WP:USEPROSE. Maybe change the section title to "Critical review" or something. Write out what is being said, properly attributing quotes, etc. per MOS:QUOTE and WP:PLAG#Avoiding plagiarism. You can then add the links as inline citations as needed. Check some FAs to see how this is done by others. The same should probably be done for her appearances in movies too. There's only two of them and one is mentioned earlier in the article, so a list is really not needed.
  5. Try to find as many third party reliable sources as possible. Too much of what is written is uncited. Reviewers are going to be really hard-pressed to approve something with so much unsourced information in it, especially since this is a BLP article. Read WP:BLPSOURCES and find what you can. Remove as much of the unsourced stuff as you can and stick with what can be backed up. Maybe consider rewriting the article as a stub for the time being. It can always be expanded upon later on when more sources are found. You may actually be able to improve the article's chance of being approved by removing some of the unsourced content. In the case of unsourced content, too much is really a bad thing. Movie appearances, biographical information, etc. should all be properly cited. If you can't find the necessary reliable sources, then other editors are going to argue that it doesn't belong in the article. If by chance your article does get approved, then I would say that such information is almost guaranteed to be removed by another editor per WP:PROVEIT. Try and remember on Wikipedia that "truth" does not always equal "verifiabilty".
  6. Try to remove as much puffery and promotional sounding text as possible. For example, sentences "Angel began creating fans from around the world using the power of social media with her single You Can.", "As Angel continued to develop her vocals Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Yolanda Adams, Celine Dion and Faith Evans became her favorite recording artists.", "In 2005, Angel went back to her roots from the church and left the R&B world to sing strictly gospel songs and still does so to this day.", "Angel was asked to perform at the Grammy’s Pre-party on the same stage with James Brown, Teena Marie, Ali-Ollie Woodson and The Dramatics.", "The breaking news that Angel held onto the number 1 status for 5 consecutive weeks was written about by Media Consultant Kellie Leigh with Artist United Worldwide", and "Currently Angel is performing in venues around the bay area and is making plans for her next album in 2015." may all be true and sound nice, but they all also sound like original research or part of a PR release.
  7. Try not to overlink. Wikilinking the same thing over and over again, or something that is pretty obvious to the reader is not considered a good thing.
  8. Right now the draft is an orphan. Being an orphan is not a mortal wound, but it is a problem none the less show you should try and figure out a way to fix it. Be careful though of adding links to other pages just because the article's still a draft. But it might be helpful to come up with a list of possibilities and post it to Draft talk: Angel Sessions so that the reviewers can see you're aware of the problem and working a ways to fix it.

Finally, please read WP:PSCOI#Advice. Because you have a conflict of interest with the subject matter, it's going to be that much harder for you to get the article approved. Also, read WP:COIADVICE so that you understand what you might be getting yourself into. Article creators do not own their creation. Right now it is just a draft so other editors are pretty much leaving it alone. Once it's approved, however, it's fair game for anyone to edit. Most of the time this is a good thing and the article is improved through editing or discussion. However, your idea of "improvement" may be slightly different from Wikipedia's and because of the COI your neutrality may be questioned.

Good luck- Marchjuly (talk) 08:26, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! The submission has not been accepted because it included copyrighted information, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. You are welcome to write an article on the subject, but please do not use copyrighted work.

The existing submission may be deleted at any time. Copyrighted work cannot be allowed to remain on Wikipedia.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Angel Sessions requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1594651/bio. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
