Consensus change on ROC/TW

I wanted to let you know that apparently there has been a change in the Wikipedia consensus on the use of "Republic of China (Taiwan)". If you recall (or not) from the discussion 2 years ago, the combination use can be applied for "origin". I'm not sure when it happened, but "origin" is now over on the "Taiwan" column, where "birthplace" was and is. There's also someone on the WPCLE talk page asking us to look at locale conventions again. Arsonal (talk) 23:05, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Please explain your rational for requesting a speedy delete for this article? Callelinea (talk) 06:14, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks.

While I can't support the delete on Kiladar, and I know you don't do this work for the appreciation of some random editor, I did want to thank you for pursuing killing off dictionary entries in EN WP, we have Wicktionary for that. All the best and happy editing.- Sinneed 21:12, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I appreciate the appreciation =) Dengero (talk) 02:21, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Thankyou

Thanks for the encouragement, I've actually been visiting your user pages many times cos I've seen you editing Kay Tse before and Im still not very good at doing things such as inserting pictures and adding citations. I will be asking for your help in the future :D. Thankyou Unknown2004 (talk) 12:15, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Confused about why you undid my edits

Is there any particular reason you undid my changes to the Marriage of Inconvenience page on 14:15, 12 August 2010? I added several paragraphs to the plot summary that other people for some reason had skimmed over, but you decided to remove them all for some reason without leaving any justification in the edit summary. Could you elaborate on this?? I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm not an expert here but as far as I know I did nothing wrong. Thanks Apocman (talk) 16:57, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Dabomb87 (talk) 16:42, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

License tagging for File:MyPrivateCollection.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:MyPrivateCollection.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 03:06, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Attack pages

Hi. Thanks for tagging Bryan casey just now, but when a page is a personal attack like that, there is a better tag than {{db-vandalism}}: the one to use is {{db-attack}}, which puts it in a high-priority queue for admin attention, and generates a suitably fierce warning for the author. First blank the page, i.e. replace the whole content with {{db-attack}}, so as to get the attack off the screen. You can use {{db-atk}} or {{db-g10}} which are the same. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:54, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

I created this article not more that FIFTEEN MINUTES AGO. Kindly allow me to explain his notability. Mugginsx (talk) 14:50, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Maybe you should draft the article in one of your userpage subsections before publishing it. Dengero (talk) 14:52, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
I am sure if you would give me one half hour I could make him relevent. This is ridiculous to delete after 15 minutes. Mugginsx (talk) 14:55, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Again, you could spend as much time as you like on a draft article in one of your userpage subsections. A speedy deletion is appropriate given the current state of the article. Complaining about it would not help. Dengero (talk) 14:57, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
That seems idiotic but I will comply. You may wonder why there are fewer and fewer editors on Wikipedia. You could not have waited 24 hours to see if there was anything noteworthy there. I have been here since 2009 but sometimes I wonder why when something like this happens. Mugginsx (talk) 15:06, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

It really is not that hard. Just create an article at User:Mugginsx\Thomas Weston (Merchant Adventure entrepreneur), edit until you are happy with it, then move the whole subsection to its new page. And wala, you won't get speedied (unless it's still not notable). Dengero (talk) 15:09, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

I will do so but I would note that it does not state this as procedure in the Wiki Guidelines Wikipedia:Starting an article where it states: In the search box near the top right of a page, type the title of the new article, then click Go. If the Search page reports "You may create the page" followed by the article name in red, then you can click the red article name to start editing the article. I repeat that it is ridiculous and it is counter-productive to consider speedy deletion after 15 minutes of editing. I will take it up somewhere else. Mugginsx (talk) 15:12, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

advice

Dengero, the standard for A7 is no claim or indication of importance or significance. This is a very weak standard, deliberately so. All that an article need show is something that that might lead a reasonable person to think it might be suitable to include in an encyclopedia like Wikipedia. It does not have to show notability -- notability is a much higher standard, with complicated rules. It does not have to be referenced. It does not have to meet whatever you own personal standard is.

Several of your recent speedies as a7 have been declined by several admins, or changed to other reasons. To consider only the clearest and most obvious cases:

The article above, incomplete as it was, at the very first edit indicated the person was a leader of a group planning to settle in early colonial America. That is a very clear indication of importance--and in fact, normally of notability also. (People who are just early settlers are sometimes deleted if there is nothing else, but even in the first edit there was more than that. And for someone to be a early 17th century settler is sufficient indication of importance to pass speedy, for there are often substantial references, and the community needs a chance to look for them.) There is no way it is an A7.

Rao Nandlal Chaudhary was asserted to be a famous general; though initially unreferenced, I found two good refs in Goggle Books in a few minutes to show that indeed he was. But even without them, there is, again, no conceivable way it could have been an A7.

The standard for G1 is patent nonsense, consisting purely of incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history. The article Wallis and futuna dance was not a good Wikipedia article, but it was not conceivably nonsense. Another admin. redirected it to the article about the place, a good decision. A number of your recent AfD nominations were also redirected, rather than deleted.

Please re-read WP:Deletion policy and WP:CSD before making further nominations for speedy, and pay special attention to the alternatives to deletion. ~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by DGG (talkcontribs)

Advice noted, whoever you are. Dengero (talk) 22:51, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
FWIW, DGG is a pretty well-known admin who knows his stuff. Part of the reason he came here is that one of your CSD taggings was brought up at User talk:Jimbo Wales#losing new editors to Ridiculously Speedy Deletions (although the discussion has since moved on to other matters), which I see no one has brought up here. Not sure if you know or not, so I'll 'officially' notify you. Cheers, Nolelover Talk·Contribs 02:13, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the notification. Most of the articles going through the speedy process are duly deleted. Those that aren't are obviously worth keeping and I apologise to the user(s) who created them. Life goes on. Dengero (talk) 02:22, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
Apology accepted. Mugginsx (talk) 18:00, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, you can't A7 a fictional character (even if they probably fail GNG and CRYSTAL...) I'd suggest prod, as it's not spammy in tone. Peridon (talk) 13:23, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Seats Changing Hands

Damn, I completely forgot there was an election coming up or I would've helped do the page. I suppose that's what happend if you have a late-night party the day before the election...nevermind.

OK, the bad news is that yes, I did do it manually. I used a former 'seats changing hands' table as a template, but that's about it. The rest is blood and sweat, especially for an election with a government change such as the Queensland one. If you don't want to do it, then that's fine; I will. I've done those tables about a million times before. Just let me know, OK, and I'll get down to it. Thanks, Kapitan110295 (talk) 22:25, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

OK ;). Kapitan110295 (talk) 00:25, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

The article Michael Trout (Australian politician) has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. VQuakr (talk) 04:45, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

New Queensland MPs

Thumbs up for taking the initiative to create pages for newly elected MPs. Please note they are still "member-elect" until sworn in. ShipFan (Talk) 05:27, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Campbell Newman will be sworn in as Premier tomorrow. The members-elect will be sworn in as Members of Parliament on the first sitting day of the 54th Assembly. This is another few weeks away. The Premier is part of the executive branch government, appointed by the Governor. The Legislative Assembly is the legislative branch of government. ShipFan (Talk) 05:31, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
No, this is wrong. They are members from the date of their election, not the date of their swearing in. See the Queensland Parliament website for confirmation (check up on past election dates and see the dates MPs' terms start from). Nice work though! Frickeg (talk) 05:47, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Also, don't think I've seen you around the OzPol waters before (although I've been fairly scarce myself lately), so welcome aboard. You're doing great work here, and we're always short of hands so I hope you'll stick around! (This beginning-of-term disagreement happens every single time; I'm thinking we need a statement on the project page or something explaining the way it works!) Frickeg (talk) 05:56, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm just another long-time lurker haha. Dengero (talk) 06:28, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

The article 886 (number) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable: not reliably sourced and dubious (88 is the only numeric slang I've seen for ByeBye in Chinese). Even if it were reliably sourced we don't need a page for a foreign slang term; we have Numbers in Chinese culture for things like this.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stop Wikistalking

If you do not cease your 5 year long harassment and wikistalking campaign against me, I will report you for harassment and WP:DICK. You are hereby banned from editing my talkpage.--YOLO Swag (talk) 00:43, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Mate, if your edits contribute positively to an article, I'm perfectly fine. But all you seem to do is to have revert wars with people, such as the Desinicization page. And no, I'm not stalking you, just that your edits turn up because you are editing the pages I'm watching. Now if you channel all that childish energy into content creation or at the very least, constructive monitoring, we will all be in a better world. Dengero (talk) 06:45, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, I have started a discussion on the talk page of Desinicization to end this pointless revert war. Perhaps you would like to contribute your point of view. Dengero (talk) 06:56, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
  • To be clear, if you post again at User talk:YOLO Swag or otherwise play games with this user, your account might be blocked. Don't do it. Wikipedia is a big place. I'm sure you can find something constructive to do that will not cross paths with YOLO. Thank you. Jehochman Talk 21:44, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
    • For the record, I will continue to do everything according to the rules. I have been patient with the above (above) user despite multiple personal attacks, and I am determined to stop any inaccurate or NPOV information from being added onto Wikipedia. It's unfortunate he has to get his buddies to back him up and not go through proper channels to what he thinks is "harassment". Dengero (talk) 00:20, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
      • For the record, I have blocked you indefinitely to prevent further harassment. When you agree to leave YOLO alone, you might be unblocked. I also strongly suspect that this account is a sockpuppet of User:Ideogram, or alternatively a close friend acting in concert with the person behind the Ideogram account. Either way the activity is forbidden. Jehochman Talk 12:17, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Unblock request

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Dengero (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

sooo it's been a week since the email, I guess it didn't go through so I'm just going to try with the template. Anyway, so I have been blocked for 2 reasons: [1] 1. For being a sock puppet 2. Harassment against User:YOLO Swag For 1), I can't really say much else other than I'm not a sockpuppet, and I don't see how there was a reason to begin with other than a single accusation from a user I have a previous grievance with [2] For 2), which was set in place after Jehochman issued this warning[3], and I was banned for making these 2 edits only after the warning was set in place.[4][5]. If either of those statements was considered harassment of User:YOLO Swag, then I apologise. I prefer to see this block as unjustified and without community census but I'll promise I'll try not to cross paths with the above user again.Dengero (talk) 02:42, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Understanding that user will avoid YOLO. Jehochman Talk 01:19, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

The reason you were blocked is that your first and second edits after receiving the warning were to: state that you would continue acting as before, and an attack on the person I told you to stop harassing. I oppose your account being unblocked until you acknowledge that what you did was wrong, and that you will stop once and for all. The above unblock request is problematic because you suggest the block was improper. Should you be unblocked I am concerned that you will return to the same disruptive style of editing because you don't understand what you did wrong. Jehochman Talk 13:06, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry can you point out exactly how I attacked the user in the second edit [6]. I'm pretty sure he made a pretty serious allegation first. I wasn't even part of this edit war in Desinicization between YOLO and Shrigley. In fact, I was the one who initiated the talks to stop this edit war. [7] And again here I promise I won't cross paths with him again. Dengero (talk) 13:13, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
You said, "2 blatant lies". Calling somebody a blatant liar is an attack. It's uncivil. I asked you to stop communicating with YOLO, and you immediately returned fire. Sorry, chap, you need to stay away from YOLO completely. Just ignore him. If he tries to needle you, let me know and I'll block him too. Jehochman Talk 13:16, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Very well, since the word blatant is considered an attack, I take it back and apologise for that. Still, a sock puppet? Where did that justification come from? I had to defend myself at the very least and only repeating what Shrigley had said [8][9] in asking him to stop his baseless accusations. Dengero (talk) 13:32, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
You aren't blocked for sock puppetry. Please stop using that straw man argument. Jehochman Talk 16:52, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
If the person lied and he can prove it call it what it is! Hell In A Bucket (talk) 16:39, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Hell, would you please leave this page. You're not helping the user at all, and you aren't familiar with the long backstory. On the contrary, you are egging them on in a way that will make their block more permanent. Jehochman Talk 16:51, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
So I'm not competant enough to research a long story? Get real Jehochman, you make lots of accusations with very little backup to why it was done. Where is the sock investigation? You'd hold this editor responsible for my opinion is what you're also saying...that's the second threats I've seen fro you in as many weeks. Is your argument so fundementally flawed you have to resort to threats over what happens if a person disagrees with you? Hell In A Bucket (talk) 16:57, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
He's not threatening anyone. The purpose of a block is to prevent further disruption, and the best way to get a successful unblock request is to demonstrate an understanding of the behavior that led to the block and commit to avoiding it. Having someone egging on the disruptive behavior is inherently detrimental to that learning process. It's very similar to chanting "fight! fight! fight!" to a couple people having what was a simple argument. Please, step aside. Hersfold non-admin(t/a/c) 19:10, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Very well, if I'm not blocked for sock puppetry, then all is good! I have retracted my attack, and I also promised I won't cross paths with him [10]. You must excuse me for feeling bitter, Jehochman, as this whole saga started with the Desinicization page, in which I watch, which started this case[11]. Two independent users had a quick look and both thought YOLO was in the wrong light [12][13] yet I'm the one blocked after YOLO posted on your wall personally instead of going through the official channels.[14] Dengero (talk) 22:44, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Okay, so we have an understanding. You ignore YOLO. If he does something wrong and you notice, still ignore him. Somebody else will surely notice. There are lots and lots of things to do here. Avoiding one editor leaves more than 99.99% of your possibilities open. Jehochman Talk 01:16, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
