Marathi Wikipedia

Hello!

The article you asked about already has categories - they show at the bottom of the page and are generally the last section of the article page when you edit it.

However, it is not categories that make an "article good". what makes an article good is having sourced content that covers all aspects of the topic in a nuetral manner. Click on the "How to write a great article" link in the welcome message. Active Banana (bananaphone 16:26, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

okay! thanks for the tips. & am sorry. i actually didnt meant categories. i wanted to ask about how an article is added to Portal or a Wikiproject. that way other editors know about it & thus can help expand.

note on formatting

Just so you know, song titles should get quotes "like this", while album and film titles get italics like this. I think you did it wrong on Lata M. BollyJeff || talk 17:47, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Akrura Article

RE your message on the India project page. Considering the contributors are the ones who have left the article in such a... dire state, I thought it best to ask on the project page. Gulzar Article

I have seen your wonderful work in the article Gulzar. Can you expand the early life section? What do you think? --Tito Dutta (Talk) 07:08, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

I will surely try. #Animeshkulkarni (talk) 16:42, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion on Gulzar article

I saw your edits on Gulzar article regarding filmography and award section. I would suggest it would be good if you can remove the notes in award section about other lyricist/artist winning the award. It is not necessary on his article. Otherwise, good work! Thanks. - VivvtTalk 15:17, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Well... upon 2nd thought it does feel useless info on that particular page. But on 1st thought its not completely useless. It might not be much of a value addition. but it isn't nuisance either. Does it give a notion that comparison is made between Gulzar & other artists? Is dat ur concern? & btw, i didn't know Gulzar was on ur to-do list. Just saw it on ur page. Sorry to messup :) - Animeshkulkarni (talk) 19:44, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
I felt its not necessary for couple of reasons. First, its not a good practice to mention about artist winning or losing over other artist. You will hardly find it on any good/featured articles. Secondly, its occupying a considerable amount of space which crunches the table. And then, artists like Gulzar are beyond comparision and criticism. This format directly/indirectly compares artists. I would not say its useless but yes, it does add value to the article as well.
..and you are not messing up...Its good that you took the article up for cleaning. I am currently stuck up with NFAs. Will take up other articles once I am finished. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 03:33, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
When you read that a particular artist was nominated for a certain work but didnt receive the award, immediate question that comes is "Who got it then?". This format helps answer that question easily than to go clicking everywhere else. Hence!
It did cross me that a comparison can be offensive. Thats why i used "Won by" instead of "Lost to".
And as for your concern with format & table crunching, i will resize the columns (Few are over-spacious anyways.) -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 09:50, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

re Doubt: pictures

For wikipedia, every file you upload requires a license, be it image or audio file. Talkign specifically about film articles, most of the posters/CD/DVD covers are not free. You need to provide a license for them or else they will be deleted. You can only upload images which are credited to the owner. For non-free rationale usage, you upload image should be rationalized for its usage on the article. Its important to know that non-free images cannot be uploaded to wikimedia commons. Only free images are allowed. Creative commons license required for wikimedia commons. Non-free image and wikimedia commons are two different things. Hope this helps. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 00:14, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

The image mentioned is non-free and can only be used in the mentioned article and not anywhere else, that means its usage is fair only in the mentioned article. Just to make couple of things clear, the template used for the image is old. Sooner or later, imagebot might change it. Because used template does not mention article name, which is mandatory as per the current template, which in turn makes it applicable for its 'fair-use'. License is should be credited to Rajshri, which currently it is, but I would prefer their official site than their official facebook page.
To be frank, wikipedia help section does not help much in licensing area. Its kind of misleading at a times. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 12:51, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes. This one is better than HAHK. Its valid for its non-free usage. It should ideally be licensed to Red Chillies or whoever is the distributor or producer. SRK is, I believe, none of them.
I have uploaded couple of images. One of them, I assume you know, is for Umbartha. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 13:18, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Not a problem. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 13:29, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes. It should be fine. Its non-free. If you get free images, please upload them over non-free. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 16:50, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Image tagging for File:Jamai Raja.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Jamai Raja.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

WP:INDIA caste discussion

IRT: "Lets give you all a nice piece to read & understand. Caste based on character."

Nice piece?

Not the most convincing article.

Casteism is frequently discussed on this page because it is a controversial issue and needs consensus. Nobody is stopping you from recruiting folks to help on UNESCO articles and the like. Would you mind removing your comment from the WP:INDIA page, as it doesn't actually add anything to the discussion. If you want to recruit folks for other aspects of the project, by all means do so, but stepping into others' tense discussions with a complaint about even having a discussion is not constructive. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Those tags were done just before you reached there! The referencing for this piece can be found here. If the reference is not NOTABLE according to you & wiki rules, you are free to ignore it. You can find another references also if you please to. Hopefully, the right reference would be to buy a book & read through it. But Alas! Indians havent digitized everything. Till that happens i guess fighting would be a good way to kill time. Casteism is a controversial issue only because its discussed so much. Catch 22! Wikipedia doesnt have the responsibility of exhibiting all the things. According to me, best way to stop this non-consensus debate would be to stripe down all caste articles to stub level, lock them & save! Sounds bad idea at the first though. Sound like betraying all the readers of wikipedia by not providing them the info they look for. But look at the disadvantages you cause. You all experienced editors keep just fighting on it. you all have blocked few editors too, obviously not for debating on these issues, but for abusing or such non-social behaviours. But think, had these debates not had happened, all these editors would have been active & helping in other articles. Those UNESCO pages were just examples picked out of many such articles which require help; by you all & others too.
Tell me, how many indian editors contribute to indian articles? & how many of them take part in your "discussions"? Not many i guess. Why do you think that happens? Dont they know that such discussion portal exists? Unlikely! Because you do make sure that they have the welcome note on their pages. Then is there a possibility that they still dont feel welcomed here?!? There is a possibility of this happeneing. We dont know if thats true or not, but there are chances. Then do you think that if all editors dont come together you can make this WP:India any better? Wouldnt you require all editors to bring uniformity in all articles? & do you also think you are getting enough views to take decisions? You all 5-10 regular editors on same regular caste topics! Looks unfair representation to me.
& as to my comment & interruption in THE discussion, i am not removing it. I have right to speak. & you have right to edit too. If you wish, you make strike it off, delete it, edit history pages if needed & what ever is your wish. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 14:50, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

re National Awards (regional)

Ya. I saw your edits on National Film Awards for regional films. Most of them are not updated and some of them have incorrect information. Currently I am creating main articles first and then will start cleaning the related articles. This includes creating new articles as well. I appreciate your efforts for adding rows to the respective pages. I might ask you to help me out on some of the things in near future. I hope you dont mind that. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 15:23, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. :) Thanks. - VivvtTalk 15:31, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Madhuri Dixit

Why do director and co-stars matter in the filmography table? It should be about her, not other people. It clutters up the table, and most other actors do not have it. I would not do this if I was you; I think someone is going to revert it. BollyJeff || talk 16:00, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

I too didnt take it up since long. But recently saw it on Riya Sen, a Good Article. Plus i wanted to establish her career commonality with Anil Kapoor's & maybe few directors. The article doesnt give that info. Hence i thought of this as the initial step to reach there. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 16:10, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Hhm, I am surprised to see that on Riya Sen. I personally son't like it. Seems like it would be easier to establish her career commonality by finding a source that discusses that and add it into the text. BollyJeff || talk 16:36, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
That would be easy. But then ppl cry about notability & such stuff. (rare on bollywood articles, but still). & funny thing, i am noting that she has more commonality with Anupam Kher than Anil Kapoor. :) :) :) -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 16:40, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Probably because Kher has just been in everything; over 400 films. BollyJeff || talk 16:48, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Yeh

It used to be very active but now hardly anyone visits it. Will have to notice others. ShahidTalk2me 16:13, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Re Doubt

It is supposed to be for the discussions related to Indian films, but it looks like you are the only active editor there nowadays. ;) To be honest, I have not had a chance to be active there. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 12:07, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Weigh in?

Would you like to weigh in at the discussion in Talk:India on some 40 odd images? I know that's a lot, but a simple Yes/No would be adequate. Of course, if you choose to comment at more length, it would be even better. The India page is now the second most-viewed country page (after the US) and the 15th page overall, so having a set of high quality representative pictures becomes even more imperative. Edit warring on Jagjit Singh

Thank you for your message on my talk page concerning editing of Jagjit Singh. I have posted a message about this at User talk:Simon5761. If that user still continues in the same way then please do feel welcome to contact me again. However, you should be careful yourself, as you seem to have been drawn into an edit war on the article, which could potentially lead to your being blocked from editing. It is important to realise that under Wikipedia's policy on edit warring you should not edit war even if you believe you are right. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:08, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks! hopefully that should help the page. However if u see, we never went into conflict about the subject. Just peacock feathers, repeated data, italics & unnecessary data about other people on Jagjit's page. I agree that the page has been miserable even before these "wars". But due to his recent death, i thought that the page would get more visitors & hence a major cleanup was must. But that did attract fans too. As you advised/warned, i will avoid such edit wars. I will wait till i have another editors attention to this article, so that he can take over. I guess, me reverting Simon's edit is irritating him & he is hence not even seeing my points. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 20:55, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

The IP above is blocked as an open proxy. Is there some reason why you need to edit through a proxy? —DoRD (talk) 11:35, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Well...i hardly understand these technicalities. But when i read about Open proxy, i have this to inform. I use this IP address to login my own account & then make edits to Wiki. This is a huge network, probably having few thousand users. Is it because of that that it is confused as an open proxy? -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 12:48, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I unless someone has incorrectly configured your corporate network, I can't imagine why Aker would be operating an open proxy. I'll refer this to our group that deals with proxies for further investigation. (report) —DoRD (talk) 13:02, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
I understood little of it. :) & hence am also suprised to know that u know that its Aker! But this foolish guy will wait for a favourable reply. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 13:23, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Well, this IP address is confirmed as acting as an open proxy. Animeshkulkarni that means that anyone in the world can use it, so something on your network has been misconfigured by a network administrator. Can you disable your HTTP proxy in your browser? Can you edit on the HTTPS version of the site (https://en.wikipedia.org/)? Admins - this looks like collateral, maybe someone will look at IPBE if those two suggestions don't work. -- zzuuzz (talk) 13:24, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Well...i cant edit through the HTTPS also. But cool down! If this has to do something with the legal stuff & if you are involving my service provider too by any means, i would be happy to remain blocked than get tangled in this unknown stuff (which i should be aware of now). -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 13:36, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
A simple Whois query will display the owner of the network, so don't be alarmed about how we learned that. However, you should certainly alert your network administrator because this could be a very serious security concern to the company. —DoRD (talk) 14:22, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Jagjit Singh

Unfortunately just saying "I heard that in an interview" doesn't count as a citation. There's a famous Jimmy Wales quote about how he wants to stop people including information on the basis that "I'm sure I heard it somewhere". There's nothing wrong with using a radio or tv interview as a source, but you need to cite it - see WP:CITE for more info. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 00:41, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Should we give a youtube link then? Will that do? - Animeshkulkarni (talk) 07:03, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
As long as the Youtube video isn't a copyright violation (ie someone just recorded it off their tv). If the tv station posted it, there's no problem. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 11:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Re Discussion on native languages in lead

I saw your talk message pretty late. It looks like discussion has reached its consensus. It would be inappropriate, now, to put forward my views there but in my opinion, this is an english wikipedia and other language text does not make any sense to other people who do not understand that particular language. Might be giving good feeling to people who understand it. But again, its my opinion. Thanks. - VivvtTalk 07:06, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
