Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Nashville, Arkansas. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 14:54, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Diann shaddox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Some advice

[edit]

Hello Diann Shaddox. I don't think you have really had matters explained to you yet. You appear to be trying to insert mentions of yourself and your work into Wikipedia. I have to say this is discouraged as "conflict of interest" editing, and you must expect resistance on these grounds. If you are determined to press ahead I would advise as follows.

Decide to focus either on yourself as a person or on your charitable foundation. Assemble any published writings about this topic by independent sources. That's to say, nothing by anyone who is connected with you or who stands to gain by marketing your books or promoting your foundation. This is essential to establish "notability" in Wikipedia terms. Then draft an article based on what these publications say, quoting references to them. The article has to be neutrally toned, with no hint of advertising. I think you will find the process laid out at our "first article" page to be very helpful. With regards: Noyster (talk), 16:34, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Writing about yourself

[edit]

You are welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, but it is not a social media site like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles. Writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography.

Wikipedia user pages are not like those at social networking sites. Their use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST:

"Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they should be used primarily to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. Limited biographical information is allowed, but user pages should not function as personal webpages or be repositories for large amounts of material that is irrelevant to collaborating on Wikipedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog or to post your résumé, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet or any hosting included with your Internet account."

You can find out more about Wikipedia at the WP:Welcome page and the WP:Introduction, as well as Wikipedia's plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Thanks. --Drm310 (talk) 17:07, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (your reason here) --Diann Shaddox 17:58, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

This page isn't all promotional and can be rewritten to bring more information to Diann Shaddox author & Founder of the Diann Shaddox Foundation for Essential Tremor.

As was already mentioned, your userpage is not an article. It is a different type of page, and there are guidelines about what kind of content is acceptable and what is not acceptable.
Wikipedia is not meant to help draw attention to yourself or your causes. In order for you to be considered worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia, you must meet its notability criteria. If you or your work aren't notable - as Wikipedia defines notability - then you can't have an article here. --Drm310 (talk) 19:07, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
