Hello, I'm Mahveotm. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Cowal because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Hi Electric-Balls, I removed that content you added. If it is news article, please add a full cite news reference. I spent four weeks last year cleaning the article and bringing it back from dead and keeping the references in decent. It still needs work. Please take a look at WP:REFB which will tell you how to create full references, instead of a sentence between two ref tags. Hope that helps. scope_creepTalk 01:02, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

HELP - Political ideology edits

[edit]

The following user (Gadgetboy456) has marked an edit I made as vandalism when it is factually correct. Scotland recently had a referendum and chose to remain part of the UK.

HELP - The Gantocks

[edit]

Hi @Electric-Balls: How are you? I saw your question and the revert to the The Gantocks. I've reverted it. It is nothing to to with a referendum politics, Scotland being part of the UK. It is the question of geography and only geography. It is firmly in Scotland, and within Wikipedia where we refer to the locating country for everything. Only the Scotland portal is specific in this instance. You also need to be more specific. scope_creepTalk 12:18, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have added that bar into a whole bundle of articles. Please take it out. It entirely non suitable. scope_creepTalk 12:54, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The next time, please leave the politics at the door. Wikipedia only product is the fact. Politics just muddy the water and dont add anything. scope_creepTalk 13:11, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: That I feel is a load of bull. Scotland is within the UK. Portal bars can hold more than one portal. If this is Wikipedias stance on this, it needs changed! Wikipedia is showing a bias towards the Independece point of view and is not being impartial! (Electric-Balls (talk) 14:21, 2 February 2019 (UTC))[reply]
@Electric-Balls: I dont care if you think it a load of bull. We have a set of policies that define exactly what can be done and what cant done. Every single one of those authors who wrote those articles you changed never put a dual portal bar as it was not suitable. If you cant follow the rules, this is probably not the place for you. The independece referendum is covered in its the appropriate article. Work on them if you want to work on articles with a political aspect. The thing that annoys me is that every one of those article you went through needs references, still do. If you want work, go through them again, and start adding references, particularly for the towns and villages in Argyll. Have a look at this: WP:REFB scope_creepTalk 14:35, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: There are many pages with duel portals. eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaware, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_Scotia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Columbia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galicia_(Spain), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normandy there are many more. (Electric-Balls (talk) 15:24, 2 February 2019 (UTC))[reply]
@Electric-Balls: I'm not talking about dual portals, some pages have half a dozen. It is all to do with suitability. For example, yoi added uk portal in the gealic language page. The gealic language isn't from Scotland. It is an Irish language, developed in Ireland, that came across with the dalraitans in the 6th Century I think. There is a vast amount of work needing in Scottish and even more on Wikipedia, a vast amount. Please concentrate and leave the politics at the door. scope_creepTalk 15:32, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: You are being pedantic. A region can speak a few languages and still be within several portals.(Fladda, Slate Islands (talk) 15:38, 2 February 2019 (UTC))[reply]
I'm not being pedantic. I'm following the policies set out. If you keep horsing against the rules, you going to end up being blocked. Your clearly here with an agenda, not to build the encyclopedia. I dont intend to spend any more time on this. scope_creepTalk 15:59, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As scope creep has gone off in a huff. My original question was about inserting the UK portal on a page that is within the UK but also Scotland. Surely two portals can be listed? scope creep went off on other topics apparently? Having just checked my contributions, I see scope creep has removed the UK portal from pages I had added the portal too.(Electric-Balls (talk) 16:27, 2 February 2019 (UTC))[reply]
Why have the UK portal when there is a Scotland portal. On Wikipedia we're always specific when we can be, not generic. UK Portal is appropriate to generic UK topics, not stuff specific to one of the constituent countries. Canterbury Tail talk 14:15, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is a content dispute and should be resolved on the talk page of the relevant article. If it involves multiple articles pick one to host the discussion and leave a note with a link to that discussion on the talk pages of the others. When an edit is challenged discussion is the next step. See WP:BRD. I am not aware of a specific policy or guideline on this issue so the question of suitability is typically resolved via WP:CONSENSUS. You may also add a WP:RFC to the discussion to expand participation. [Note: This page has not been added to my watch list. If you need further assistance or have additional questions please ping me.] Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:52, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
