Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, CMD (talk) 13:53, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Chipmunkdavis
Thank you! I hope to become a regular contributor, and any suggestions for tasks that a new wikipedian could do would be appreciated. I do have the constraint of only being able to access wikipedia from the Android app, but if you have any tips, I would love to hear them. Citationnneeded (talk) 14:19, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Citationneeded, the tips above are helpful. Contributing here doesn't have any particular requirements, editors focus on what they personally want to do. Don't be afraid to ask questions at the WP:Teahouse, CMD (talk) 01:50, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for removing vandalism from 12th Fail. We appreciate this, but unfortunately your edit was not successful in restoring the article to its pre-vandalised state. For future reference, it is better to deal with vandalism by checking the article's page history to determine how it appeared before it was vandalised. You can then restore the whole article, or the relevant part of it, to an appropriate earlier version. If you simply delete the visible vandalism then any content removed or overwritten by the vandal is lost. See How to deal with vandalism for details. Thank you. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 22:23, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sumanuil
I understand. I'll attempt to be more mindful of this in the future. Thank you! Citationnneeded (talk) 22:26, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, please re-read and digest the above, you are still making partial reverts and leaving vandalism unreverted, as at Checkers. Additionally, your choice of username is potentially confusing and perhaps against policy, maybe choose something not associated with Wikipedia terminology. Cheers! Captainllama (talk) 14:58, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Captainllama
Okay. Do you know if there is a way to change my username? Citationnneeded (talk) 15:01, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know there is, I don't know the precise procedure. Have a look here: Wikipedia:Username policy#Changing your username. Best wishes, Captainllama (talk) 15:06, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Additionally, you can use things such as Wikipedia:Twinkle on your PC or phone (I think) to automatically apply these templates. CommissarDoggo (talk) 13:21, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@CommissarDoggo
Thank you, I did not actually know where to find these templates. Also, do you know how Twinkle could be installed on a phone? Citationnneeded (talk) 13:24, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, I don't think you can actually. You'll have to be on PC to use Twinkle unfortunately, I just tried to access the preferences on my phone and it wasn't there. CommissarDoggo (talk) 13:27, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CommissarDoggo
Well, thanks for trying. I appreciate the help. Have a good day :) Citationnneeded (talk) 13:34, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanksfor reverting [[1]] edit on the Ghostface page!! Vandalism templates[edit]

Hello! Thanks for your help fighting vandalism. I noticed with this edit you tried adding a 5th level user warning; however, there's nothing above a level 4 warning. Once a user has reached level 4, they can be reported to WP:AIV. Let me know if you have any questions. MacAddct1984 (talk | contribs) 13:39, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I realized as soon as I published it. Silly mistake on my part. Thanks!

Twinkle for managing page revisions and vandalism notices[edit]

I notice you left a warning on User talk:78.148.155.84 but it appears you did so manually, and you named the section the date with the day specified. I'm not sure if you are aware yet of WP:Twinkle, a gadget that allows you to undo vandalism to previous revisions and automatically applies notices. Best, microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 20:35, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MicrobiologyMarcus
I am aware of it, but I am limited to the app version of Wikipedia for external reasons. I searched for a way to enable it on the app, but unfortunately couldn't get most gadgets to function on it. If you have any proposals for my predicament I would be quite appreciative.
Emlythk (talk) 20:41, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, not on the app. I believe different mobile browsers work somewhat okay with twinkle enabled. In the future, I would suggest when leaving talk page warnings, simply specify Month Year (December 2023) so that others who patrol with automated programs can leave warnings and build using the automatic level selection.
Great job fighting vandalism! microbiologyMarcus (petri dish·growths) 20:43, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@MicrobiologyMarcus
Got it. I did, in the above-mentioned talk page warning include the date in the title, but I can certainly do so in the body text if that doesn't work. And thanks, I try. :)
