Sorry about the mass rollback. Using the new app RedWarn and didn't notice you had made multiple edits. Apologies and thanks for maintaining my correction. Robynthehode (talk) 20:05, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Robynthehode, no problem. Thanks for the response, and thanks for taking the message well. I'd just encourage you to be careful in the future, especially regarding rollback, since RedWarn is a very powerful tool. In the future, for edits like mine, it's better to instead use the "restore this version" feature or undo, if it's one edit you disagree with. epicgenius (talk) 20:08, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Favour?
Hi - I wonder whether you'd mind if I asked a favour? This is pretty rude of me, but I confess to being excessively impatient, and as a teacher I have a limited amount of time in the summer before the regular term-time chaos start up again. I wonder whether you would be interested in reviewing Kirkandrews, Dumfries and Galloway for GA? I have a few times in the past approached TRM and Gog the Mild about reviewing my work, and they've always given me great detailed reviews that have resulted in better articles; however, I kind of feel like if I were to engage with a broader range of reviewers, I might benefit from a breadth of expertise and experience that I wouldn't get by always working with the same people. If you think I'm being excessively cheeky by looking to skip the queue, please say so and I'll go elsewhere - I won't be offended at all. If you're up for it though, I'd be very grateful - please don't spare my blushes, this is the first time I've written about a place rather than a building, I really want a thorough review. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 19:29, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- Girth Summit, no worries. I don't consider this a problem at all. It seems quite easy to review, based on length alone, so I'll look over it during the next week. Hopefully I can get some comments to you by the end of this coming week. epicgenius (talk) 19:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Sun Aug 16: Great American Wiknic NYC & Beyond
August 16, 3pm: Great American Wiknic | |
---|---|
You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our annual summer Great American Wiknic, this year being held virtually. We look forward to seeing local Wikimedians, but would also like to invite folks from the greater New York metropolitan area (and beyond!) who might not typically be able to join us in person! Featuring artist-Wikimedian Sara Clugage's "Picnics: An Outside History" for a cultural exploration of picnicking, knowledge and society during the national panel in the first part. We encourage you to call in for the second part from a local park or natural site and share it on the video stream, as well as sharing your favorite picnic grub or other special foods with us. Is there a project you'd like to share? A question you'd like answered? A Wiki* skill you'd like to learn? Let us know by adding it to the agenda. The Wiknic is taking the place of "WikiWednesday" this month, so we will also include salon and knowledge-sharing workshop aspects.
We especially encourage folks to share your parks and foods on screen, and add your 3-minute lightning talks to our roster for the Zoom portion, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! |
(You can subscribe/unsubscribe from future notifications for NYC-area events by adding or removing your name from this list.)

Hi, what are we doing with this nomination? If it's not resolved soon, it's not going in on the date requested. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:58, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- What a mess. Other issues came up and the hook was threatened to be pulled. I returned it to WP:DYKN and hope that we can get a better hook out of it, too. And we shouldn't be promoting it for an unrelated holiday request. Yoninah (talk) 00:11, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you today for Parachute Jump, "about a defunct amusement park ride on the Riegelmann Boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NYC. It was located at the 1939 New York World's Fair before being relocated to Coney Island in 1941, and continued to operate until the 1960s. A long fight for preservation followed, and after over a decade, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, later becoming an official NYC landmark as well. Today it's used for light shows because no one wants to spend money to bring it back to operating status."! - Just amazing what you produce around NYC! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:22, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Greetings Epicgenius, I see that you split off Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk from List of boardwalks in the United States. It seems that you did not include all of the information when you created the new page. I believe the things you removed appear in the included references. Would you consider adding them to the article or shall I? Kind regards, --atefrat (talk) 18:27, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Atefrat, thanks for the message. I hadn't moved these over because they were unsourced. I'll expand the boardwalk article later this week, but I've added these details to the new page for now. epicgenius (talk) 20:20, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Epicgenius, I see you moved some more stuff. It seems that it is all sourced especially in the official nycgovparks page under facilities.
- By the way, I don't know what the consensus is regarding reference formatting style. I prefer the "Reflist|refs=" style. If you think the method is inferior, tell me why and feel free to revert my last edit. Kind regards,--atefrat (talk) 19:03, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Atefrat, no problem. I don't know if there are other details I missed, but I'm going to expand this article soon, as it's seriously deficient. Also, I don't mind if you prefer list defined references (the style you refer to). epicgenius (talk) 19:19, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your GA nomination of TWA Flight Center
The article TWA Flight Center you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:TWA Flight Center for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Reply tool
The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.
- More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
- Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
- Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[1]
The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).
The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.
New requirements for user signatures
- The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
- Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.
Next: New discussion tool
Next, the team will be working on a tool for quickly and easily starting a new discussion section to a talk page. To follow the development of this new tool, please put the New Discussion Tool project page on your watchlist.
