Help me

[edit]

{{helpme}} Hi. I got told for my fair use rationale on Image:500dzd2.jpg that the article associated with the image doesn't exist. However, it exists, and I checked capitilization, and also tried to copy-paste the title, and it still doesn't work. Any tips? Thanks. --escondites 16:45, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an image expert, but I found the error in your template and fixed it. You used [[Algerian dinar]] where you should have used simple Algerian dinar without the brackets. Generally, in templates, just putting in the article name without the linking templates is the way to go. Into The Fray T/C 17:14, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response from 52Pickup's page

[edit]

Bonjour Escondites,

I figured that I would move this conversion from 52's talk to your talk as to not bog down his page. I caught your posting on his page by pure chance.

All of your requests can be handled by Infobox Settlement. It is just a matter setting up an empty syntax tailored for the desired location. Also, if the information is available, I couldn't find very much info out there in my short look. If you can find me the sources for the Adrar Province, then I'll insert those into that example. If you can find me a district article then I'll try to set up another example. —MJCdetroit 14:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aloha, dear MJCdetroit! (You know, here in Algeria we say Détroit)
But, is this template actually used by administrative divisions other than settlements, such as provinces, states, counties, and distircts? I mean, most countries have specific infoboxes for their division, or simply do not have any infoboxes, as most Algerian articles.
And wouldn't it be too difficult to use the raw syntax and edit it every time for the articles? BTW: Does the settlement infobox support colors? (Yes, I know, it's a stupid question) --escondites 17:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oui, c'est la leçon numéro un, le premier jour de classe française, mais that was like 15 years ago. However, the French pronunciation (of course with a strong American accent) of "DAY-TWaaa" is a common nickname that everyone knows. But I degas...

Yes, it is used for places such as provinces: Baja California Sur and Al Anbar Governorate. One idea is to make a "wrapper" like what was done for {{Infobox Serbia municipality}}. That way you have the consistency, but it makes syntax entry much easier for the average editor.—MJCdetroit 20:03, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption?

[edit]

Hello Escondites! I see you have recently decided that you would like to be adopted. I would only be too happy to do this. Quick summary of me: Been here 6 months, 5000 edits. Regards, Rudget Contributions 17:20, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

:) Anything you want to know? Rudget Contributions 17:26, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is two different styles you can choose. For example you can choose to do either: <ref>[www.website.com]</ref>, or you can do <ref>{{cite web|url=www.website.com|title=example|publisher=example|accessdate=2007-11-05}}</ref> (Where 2007-11-05 refers to the 5th November 2007) - Anything else? - Ask me or see, Wikipedia:Citation templates. Don't worry if you don't get them first time, I didn't! Oh and by the way remember to put all cites after full stops or commas. Rudget Contributions 17:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, add a new section like this: ==References== and then add {{Reflist|2}} into it. Save the page and then it should work. Rudget Contributions 17:44, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep I'm fine! Thank you for asking. :) - I see you're interested or probably wanting to edit Algeria articles. May I suggest joining WP:Algeria. It doesn't look very active to me but I'm sure your efforts would be appreciated. In essence the page you will be directed to is a WikiProject, or just a group of people dedicated to editing a certain sect of articles. If you don't want to join it, no worries. It would be advisable not to work just in WikiProjects. Rudget Contributions 17:50, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, what do I say now? :S Rudget Contributions 18:26, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! - How are you keeping? - Need anymore advice. Don't hesitate to ask. Rudget 19:35, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Done :) - Rudget 16:39, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Fixing now. Rudget 16:42, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked for help, here, because, to be honest, I don't have a clue about infoxboxes. But thanks for asking me anyway. I'm sure adopters are supposed to know about this sort of thing, and now I feel that I've let you down. Sorry. Hopefully, it'll be fixed soon. Regards, Rudget 16:52, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Done for sure! - Rudget 19:03, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tunisian governorates

[edit]

Dear Escondites,
I remarked that you created new maps for the Tunisian governorates. Thank you very much ! But the map for the Kasserine Governorate is missing. I presume it should be this one : Image:TN-09.svg. Can you please do it and advise me as you did it ? Regards Moumou82 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.108.64.1 (talk) 08:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Superficie communes d'Algerie

== Foggaret Ezzaouia article ==

[edit]

Hi. For what reason do you think this article (which I just created) is not noteworthy? There are much more articles about smaller places, and much shorter place-related articles. And how do you think can it be more wikified? --escondites 09:32, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

General notability is in question here. I understand that you are trying to create articles for every single municipality and area in Algeria. However, if your articles are really only three sentences each, then perhaps a table of all of your combined articles you've created.
For example, you can sort the table by name, Arabic name, lit. name, type of area (municipality, province, etc), location, country, population, representation in PMA, postal code, and municipal code. I believe that should cover your articles' bases. Consider it. If you believe this is not necessary and you believe you have enough information to expand every single article you've created with your three sentence template, feel free to remove the notability tag. However, if you're not, I would suggest you merge all of them into one big table listing.

Help desk query about infobox

[edit]

Hi - Regarding your Help desk query about Template:Infobox Algerian Municipality, Template:Infobox Settlement is used for many, many (tens of thousands?) municipality articles and is even aliased as (e.g.) Template:Infobox Serbia municipality. I suspect it already has all the parameters you might want (and lots more). So, again, is there some specific reason you're not using it? -- Rick Block (talk) 16:18, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's already an infobox for Algerian provinces, which is the top level subdivision. I gather (finally - sorry to be dense) in Algeria "municipality" is not the same as a city or town. There are indeed templates for various non-top level national subdivisions. It looks like you've solved your problem (true?). -- Rick Block (talk) 16:47, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Sémhur!

[edit]

Salut!

Re:Hi Rudget!

Hello again, Escondites! Erm, Articles for deletion is separate from categories for discussion. When you say this, are you referring to the deletion of this article. Best, — Rudget contributions 19:02, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because you created the article, and you want it deleted you don’t have to use AFD, you can use {{db-userreq}} to “user-request” the deletion, or in other words delete the page because of your interests. Best, — Rudget contributions 11:18, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want me to request deletion for you? — Rudget contributions 18:53, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that category will be deleted. It seems to hold a substantial amount of information which is probably verifiable if the reader searches (as there no sources at present). Best to leave it out of CFD in my opinion. — Rudget contributions 19:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could you show me where you've duplicated them from? I can't seem to find them, but with them I'll be able to bring to CFD with a rationale. :) Thanks. — Rudget contributions 19:21, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about:

Your edit to Cheguig

Please note that in English the number "one thousand six hundred and ninety-three" can be written as "1693" or "1,693", but not as "1.693". That would be interpreted by an English speaker as "one and six hundred and ninety-three thousandths". Phil Bridger (talk) 19:10, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you interested?

Hi Escondites....I was wondering if you would like to join me on a collaborative effort to bring the Algerian War article up to GA status (and maybe even FA one day). It's a good topic and the article could use some good source work. Anyway, I'd like to see us at least make some strong improvements. Any interest? I was thinking that we could split it up into sections and each of us could add references for their respective sections. What do you think? Lazulilasher (talk) 13:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation?

[edit]

Hello, I am the creator of All Saints' Church, Wittenberg, Germany. It isn't a very big article now, since I'm having trouble finding references in English. However, there is a large page on it in the German Wikipedia, under the article name "Schlosskirche, Wittenberg". I am confident that, if this is translated and the information added to the English version, then All Saints' will surely be able to reach GA status. Thank you for you time, Benjamin Scrīptum est - Fecī 18:49, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thank you, Escondites...is the article about the castle of Wittenberg? I guess I was confused, and I even gave the wrong article name. Thanks a bunch, though, and keep an eye out for All Saints', or rather Schlosskirche, on DYK! Your help is extremely valued to me! Benjamin Scrīptum est - Fecī 19:11, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All Saints' Church, Wittenberg

[edit]

In your edit of All Saints' Church, Wittenberg you have broken several references. Do you intend to fix them quickly? If not I will have to undo your edit. TerriersFan (talk) 16:42, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again, Escondites, for your translation. It provides a good deal of new information that the article will surely benefit from. That said, I had not realized and did not take into consideration that the German article seems to focus on the castle, which is not what the english article is about. Do you have what you translated saved somewhere so that you can put it into a sandbox, and then we can take the relevant information and inject it into the article? I think that that would be the most helpful, since you did, as TerriersFan said, break several references, and that will have to be undone. If you have any thoughts on the matter, please speak up, and again, I am eternally grateful for your help, which I am sure from my own experiences with translating Latin to English and English to Latin, has taken a good deal of time and effort. Glad you are using the iniative to create these articles. I've been doing other countries in lesser developed parts of the world such as Template:Districts of Mozambique, Template:Mandalay Division etc. Good idea creating provincial templates -towns and villages/ landmarks etc can go in them too. I'll be helping you set them up although I don't know the details yet. -I've just noticed the infoboxes great! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 18:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you are adding details on population, basic details etc on the districts you should be giving sources. Where are you obtaining the information from?
