Developing your user page - it is easy[edit]

Wikipedia is a megalopolis and like in any city, interactions are very important. I recommend that you develop your user page so that people who visit your page may know your interests and share in them. It could be a single line telling others of not only your name but what you like or a complex page with every single thing that interests you on it. This is a great way of building up work groups that facilitate the sharing of expert knowledge on articles, talks etc. Happy building!!!  CrossTempleJay  talk 10:58, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Become a great editor through diligence[edit]

Being a member of the welcoming committee on Wikipedia I encourage you to help Wikipedia in any way you can to increase human knowledge. If you have credible information about a topic with verifiable references please feel free to add to that topic. If there is no article on that topic, why not start it, with time others will add to it and it may even make the featured articles list. By doing this, I have been able to make over 6000 page edits in both new articles, article improvement etc. Furthermore, I encourage you to aim to be a member of the autoconfirmed users [[1]] group as this will greatly improve your Wikipedia experience. You can do this by making at least 10 credible edits on Wikipedia and remaining on Wikipedia for four (4) days. Check out this page for tips. CrossTempleJay  talk 10:58, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Adding media to articles[edit]

Media files, be it images, drawings or sound files are an integral part of Wikipedia's articles. They apart from enriching articles, make them more credible too. You can add media files to both your new articles as well as once you are editing. To do so you can search for it on wikipedia:commons or you can either upload the image if you have it using this file uploader or [commons uploader]. Please be informed that you must provide accurate information about the file being uploaded since they are reviewed and if if is found that the license given to the file is false, it will promptly be deleted.  CrossTempleJay  talk 10:58, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spotting bad edits and vandalism[edit]

As you age on Wikipedia, one thing you will come across and probably address will the issue of bad edits or vandalism. There are several ways of spotting them:

  • by reviewing articles on your watchlist regularly and looking for bad edits
  • verifying new changes to pages and articles

If you happen to come across a bad edit you may:

  • ask an editor you trust to review the work for his/her inputs
  • you can rollback the change if you have credible information that the edit is indeed bad
  • request that the necessary change be made on the article's talk page.

Whatever you do, please be very careful about the changes you make, for a rule of thumb, discuss issues you are not sure of first before making changes. CrossTempleJay  talk 10:58, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:DevakaFernando.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:DevakaFernando.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 18:31, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:Devaka Fernando.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Devaka Fernando.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Rohan Amerasekera, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Edward Amerasakera. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:19, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Cut-and-paste move[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Edward Amerasakera a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Rohan Amerasekera. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Roy Bowyer-Yin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. G S Palmer (talk) 20:27, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Mohan Niranjit Burhan[edit]

I suggest that you read WP:ANYBIO, which prescribes that a person is deemed notable if they have done something that is "remarkable, significant, interesting or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded".

Essentially Mohan Niranjit Burhan is only a puisne (or junior judge) on the Seychelles Supreme Court. If he was the Chief Justice, who I note does not even have an article, then he would be deemed notable or significant due to his position. There are in fact eight puisne judges on the Seychelles Supreme Court, none of which are notable. The Supreme Court of Seychelles is not even the preeminent court in the country, which is the Seychelles Court of Appeal, of which Burhan is not a member.

At this stage I'm not proposing the article be deleted rather that there needs to be further proof provided that establish Burhan's notability. Dan arndt (talk) 08:05, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RT Rana[edit]

Dear sir please help for improve my page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RT_Rana you are great wikipedian

Stefan D'Silva[edit]

Have just been reviewing the article on Stefan D'Silva and have to raise whether the subject is actually notable. He was a schoolboy rugby player and an officer in the New South Wales corrective services - neither of which are particularly notable. He released two books, in accordance with WP:AUTHOR, "The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews." The majority of the sources cited in the article are WP:Primary, and if fact one is from the subject himself. There are also a number of dead links. Rather than progress with an AfD I thought that I'd give you the opportunity to look at editing the article to clearly establish the subject's notability. Dan arndt (talk) 07:56, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You. I agree that the support is weak for author criteria. Will work on it as suggested Fattutor (talk) 12:30, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Orville Abeynaike[edit]

The article Orville Abeynaike has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A school teacher and school coach - fails WP:NACADEMIC

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka[edit]

Dear Fattutor,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!
