Hi Fayssal I am really honoured :), alas I know we moroccans are really few and far between here, although I try to talk about Wikipedia around me. I guess you can find more moroccan by visting morrocan pages history.

Cheers --Khalid hassani 22:56, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi Fayssal, I have seen that you have been very active lately, nice to see someone involved :)

Cheers --Khalid hassani 22:09, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Gnawa[edit]

That project's not really active anymore, but gnawa looks almost ready for a Featured Article nomination. It could use a good copyedit (remember most genres, like blues should be lower-case) and needs a properly-formatted references section, but is otherwise a great article. I suggest taking it to peer review first, to get some more suggestions. Tuf-Kat 07:02, May 1, 2005 (UTC)

Help[edit]

Could you please help me ??? It is late night and i did a mistake: i tried to add a topic for deletion, without much success.

It seems the page is damaged.  :(

How do i correct it ???

Thanks in advance.

--Hgfernan 03:47, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove the copyvio notice on the abovementioned article? Please don't do this. Rewriting articles that are copyright violations isfine, as long as you do it on the temp page. The copyright violation must stay on the article for one week, regardless of good changes made. I've moved your edits to the temp page, per the policy. If you have any question, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Bratschetalk random 04:19, May 2, 2005 (UTC)

No problem whatsoever. Just wanted everything to go according to the rules. By the way, the stub that you made out of that copyvio looks great! Bratschetalk random 04:35, May 2, 2005 (UTC)

Andalusian music[edit]

I'd rather make Andalusian music a disambig pointing to both Andalusian classical music and Music of Andalusia. It is best to avoid making parenthetical titles like Andalusian music (Morocco). That would be a good redirect, though. I'll go ahead and do this -- let me know if you have any questions. Tuf-Kat 20:47, May 2, 2005 (UTC)

Morocco-stub[edit]

I didn't delete the article; I merely marked it for speedy deletion. The article in question was not a template because it was not in the Template: namespace. If you intended to create a template, you should have put it in the Template: namespace. It looked to me like someone had misapplied the stub template with a subst. If the page hasn't already been deleted by an admin, it should be a simple matter to revert the delete tag and move it to the Template: namespace. Sorry for the confusion; I did not realize that there was not already a Morocco stub template. Kelly Martin 12:37, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

Morocco-geo-stub[edit]

Hi FayssalF - I note you've recently created a new stub category. Did you realise that stub categories should normally be cleared by Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting before creation? That way they can be vetted to check that there are a viable number of stubs (at least 60-100) and that the category does not cross the existing stub hierarchy before the stub is created.

If you can provide any information on why the stub was created, please add a note to the entry for this stubs at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria#Newly-discovered stub categories giving the reason for it. In addition, if there is any Wikiproject associated with the stub please add that information.

In this particular case, Morocco falls just below the threshold for a separate geo-stub category, as was discussed at the Stub sorting criteria page last month. All current Morocco geo-stubs are in Category:North Africa geography stubs, which is a small enough category in terms of numbers not to have needed further splitting yet. It is true, however, that Morocco has enough geo-stubs not to be a completely useless category, and as such, I cannot see any real reason why it shouldn't be kept. You might want to go through the North Africa category and re-template any Moroccan articles with the new stub template... Grutness|hello? 05:51, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone through the North Africa category and moved al the Morocco stubs I could find - there were a few lss than i remembered, but the Morocco-geo-stub category now has about 35 stubs in it. Grutness|hello? 09:47, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article is in arabic and we were wondering if it is worth translating, and/or maybe transfering it to arabic wiki. Could you have a quick look at it and tell us what you think on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English?--Fenice 06:27, 6 May 2005 (UTC) Thanks.[reply]

Could you transfer it to ar.wiki? It looks like the characters are causing problems on our VfD-page, and maybe this is a case for speedy deletion.--Fenice 07:34, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Two things[edit]

1) (Realizing this comes first:) Assalamu alaykum. I really respect your work.

2) Please consider voting at Wikipedia:Conspiracy theory to restrict the use of the pejorative "Conspiracy Theory" in article headings. This phrase prejudges content in a way that is unacceptable, as witnessed in 9/11 domestic conspiracy theory

Yixing Porcelain[edit]

Sorry Faissal, you are definitely wrong when stating Yixing-Ware is a kind of porcelain. As that entry states correctly, "Porcelain is a type of hard semi-translucent ceramic". If you know Yixing ware you see, it is not at all translucent - it is a kind of earthenware, clay or terra cotta, as originally stated in the Yixing entry. You should move this to Yixing Clay, thanks.

You are absolutely right User:217.237.30.215. After verification, I found out that Yixing produced no porcelain but stonewares. I moved the article to Yixing clay. I also redirected all wikilinks in articles related to it (i.e. Chinese export porcelain and Yixing). Cheers and respect Svest 09:37, May 11, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Carnival glass article[edit]

Are you sure that the photo you added really is fair use? I think that it probably isn't. Further, I'll be a taking photographs of a variety of carnival glass items over the next month or two, and I'm willing to put some of my pictures in the public domain for this article. Very soon I don't think we'll have any shortage of good images that we know for certain are OK for use. --Unfocused 18:02, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea to put your own taken pics in there. I think the pic I added got no copyright. You can check the website I got it from; no disclaimer. But anyway, we can remove it and wait for yours. Cheers Svest 18:05, May 11, 2005 (UTC)
Unfortunately the US law does not require anyone to post a copyright notice on anything for the author/photographer/creator to automatically have copyright protection. The law used to be that one had to apply for and register copyright to get the protection, but it was changed in the mid 1980s to be automatic for everything that one creates. This legal "lock-down" that the US government imposed was actually part of the driving force that led to the creation of the "free information" movement within society that, enabled by licenses such as the GPL and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), allowed this very site to be created. So, in part inspired by a bad law, people are creating something far better than anyone ever thought of before!  ;) The "free software" movement existed, but people didn't realize what an important concept it was until the copyright law in the US was made automatic. --Unfocused 20:33, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Buxar[edit]

This kind of vandalism is precisely the reason I no longer edit under a screen name. Curiosity got the best of me, and here I am, back on Wikipedia.

These kinds of idiotic and totally useless "articles" in which the body of the article is nothing more than an echo of the title is the work of a wiki "vandal bot." These are not candidates for expansion. Of course, you can always expand the article if you wish or even redirect them, but hanging a stub notice at the end of one of these wastes of time ands doing nothing else is, well, a further waste of time. I hope this helps. - 71.102.66.104 07:53, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Airports of Palestine[edit]

I have reverted your edit on this category. Palestine is not a country and thus that note needs to be up there, for NPOV. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 11:50, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

  • Regardless, the note has 3 pieces. The first piece talks about Palestine not being a state (true). The second part says that this contains stuff from Gaza and the West Bank (a realistic goal for a future Palestine), and the 3rd part says that to israeli stuff, see that category (for navigation purposes). I make no claims about whether or not palestine should exist and I make no claims that the gaza strip/west bank are part of israeli. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 12:44, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

Image:Casablanca-aeroport.jpg[edit]

Can you tell me what provision of fairuse you claim this under? Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 11:52, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

  • Copyright law sucks. Basically, if there is nothing there saying we can use it, it is fully copyrighted, and thus we have no rights to it. Cheers. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 12:45, May 21, 2005 (UTC)

Islam article[edit]

Dear Fayssal,

The Islam article keeps getting LONGER and LONGER, as people decide that this or that little bit just has to be added. Once the article gets too long, it's no longer as readable or useful.

Until fairly recently, a huge chunk of the Islam article was devoted to relations between Islam and other religions. After a discussion on the talk page, I cut out most of that section and combined it with the material already in the Islam and other religions article. Now you're expanding the Islam article again, with interesting info that is just too specific for what is supposed to be a placeholder section, just a brief summary directing people to the main article.

I'm going to revert your additions, but not because I want to silence you. If you want to argue about the wording of the summary section (keeping the number of the words much the same, but changing the words) let's do that on the talk page. I feel that that your edits are an attempt to paint Islam in a good light, and I'm not sure that this is being honest to the history.

(And yes, we have this problem with all the religion articles; adherents want all the good stuff and none of the bad stuff. People being people (alas!) there's always bad stuff. One of my online friends said something like "There's no position so sensible that it can resist total distortion by idiots".)

I don't have the time or energy to do it right now, but I'd like to move the interesting stuff you added to the Islam and other religions article, which still needs LOTS of work. I turned it into a historical survey and there's a lot of history to cover. See Mustafaa's cogent comments on the talk page. Right now there's one sentence on Spain, which is ridiculous, given that Granada is often given as an example of tolerance. If you want to move your additions and work on the Islam and other religions article, please do.

I'll add this note to the Islam talk page too. Reply there! Zora 09:42, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to say thanks for your edits to the Islam and other religions article, I will try to help you in the future.Yuber(talk) 01:44, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Tétouan[edit]

Hey Fayssal, do you know of any instance of the city of Tetwan being called Tatawn as it appears is possibly the case at least at some point in history (based on the name Tetauni)? I've asked the author who wrote that, who essentially responded that it was from elsewhere (no source provided, although I found a few google hits). I'm wondering if this might be a typo somewhere that's being perpetuated... Tomer TALK 21:44, May 30, 2005 (UTC)

Plagiarism[edit]

The majority of your articles on ceramics have been stolen from Judith Miller's Illustrated Dictionary of Antiques and Collectables. This is dishonest and contravenes Wiki policy. Are you going to amend them/take them down?

Hey Fayssal, I was wondering if you could take a look at this article. I have made it as NPOV and as accurate as I could (Din is just an Arabic word meaning religion), yet some POV pushers keep adding totally originally researched sections in about how Din means that "Islam is going to take over the state" and such. Could you please keep an eye on this article?Heraclius 17:07, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I don't currently have information on him other than what I read in the news coverage linked from Zotob and the BBC Other news site links. The best I've found so far is this bit from the Chicago Tribune:

Farid Essebar, 18, was arrested in Morocco, while Atilla Ekici, 21, was arrested in Turkey on Thursday, Louis Riegel, the FBI's assistant director for cyber crimes, said Friday. They will be prosecuted in those countries, Riegel said.

Essebar wrote the code that attacked computers that run Microsoft Corp. operating systems and Ekici paid him for it, Riegel said. It's unclear they ever met, "but they certainly knew each other via the Internet," he said.

Wikipedia:List of Missing Africa Topics[edit]

Hey FayassalF,

I think you may have removed a number of articles incorrectly from Wikipedia:List of missing Africa topics. For example, Wum currently refers to a British slang term and not the people of Cameroon that we need an article for. I checked over the list recently and found a number of blue links like this that nonetheless didn't link to a real Africa article.

Unfortunately I don't have time to recheck the list this weekend and put back in the ones removed by mistake. Is it possible for you to doublecheck these links? I appreciate your industry in removing the blue links, but it's important not to remove them until we actually have articles in place...

Best, --Dvyost 04:50, 28 August 2005 (UTC)Hey FayassalF,[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I think you're right that, for example, changing that article link to Wum (ethnic group) might be helpful. With some of these, though, just to figure out what the article title is referring to may require a fair amount of research; several I couldn't find via Google or my Davidson History of Africa. I guess sooner or later one of us needs to buy the Fage book referred to here to figure out what these all mean...
Anyway, keep up the good work! Cheers, --Dvyost 15:07, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bleep... .NET stuff, etc.[edit]

So you said to come here, so I did, and you have a WikiProject page. I think I can take on the CLI and CLR articles 'cause they are just full of really silly things I'm sure I could fix easily. Do I need to do something on the project page before I dig in? Sorry for being such a newb... :) -- Foofy 01:11, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful

“The Unbelievers are protectors, one of another: Unless you act likewise, there will be disorder and oppression on Earth and great mischief and corruption.” Surah Al-Anfāl (The Spoils of War) 8:73

Svest this is why you should disagree with Zora and accept my position. The Quranic link is necessary to explain where the word "Muslim" comes from. As the world Muslim is the word Allah named Muslims rather than like Christianity where Christians are the followers of Christ. This is also why I should remove the Holocaust reference link as even you have said there are no links to justify it. May I also mention that I mentioned the verses below because I wanted to show you that some Jews tell the truth and some mix up the words of truth, to further evil ends:

(159) "Among the people of Moses there is a party who guide others in the way of the truth and establish justice in its light.

(162) Then the wrong-doers among them substituted another word in place of the one told them. So We sent upon them a scourge from the heaven as a punishment for their wrong-doing." Quoting Surah Al A’raf (The Heights) 7: from the Quran --Courageous 17:03, 11 September 2005 (UTC) [1]

I discounted an attack vote, which I did not originally notice when I deleted the article. We don't delete books because they are written by "nutjobs". So that's a 7/12. And, the nominator said it was a hoax, but clearly the book exists, because it's on amazon. But I don't think his vote should be discounted, since he also feels it's not notable. 7/12 is 63%, which I don't consider a consensus. --Phroziac (talk) 22:48, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Opposition, Criticism, or Anti-[edit]

With the exception of Islam, most major religions have "Anti-". For example, Anti-Judaism, Anti-Catholicism, Anti-Protestantism, Criticism of Islam, Criticism of Mormonism. The problem with the title "Opposition to Mormonism", etc with religions is that such a title is tooo POV. Opposition to illegal drugs, opposition to racisim, ok. How POV can you get about the pros and cons of racism? LoL. The only diehard opponents to Mormonism are other Christians. The old title assumes that all people are opposed to the religion, or that few people question reasons for its opposition, which is just not true. Anyway, I would like for you to edit the Criticism of Islam article. The article is accessible via the Islam template. As it currently stands, the article makes little attempt at being non-POV. --JuanMuslim 12:23, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
