Hi, thanks for stopping by my talk page. I strongly disagree with the rationale you have provided here. Being released before another album is not a reason for an article to exist on Wikipedia. "Legitimacy" is not a reason for an article to exist on Wikipedia. As I pointed to in my edit summary, the guidelines at the General Notability Guidelines and specifically in this case the community guidelines for album notability are what determines whether or not a subject warrants an article on Wikipedia. I have opened Article for Deletion discussions for both of these albums and it is now up to the community to decide if these subjects pass our notability guidelines. Single issue

You removed "A Midwestern State of Emergency" as a single on Silverstein's discography but it has been stated to be a single in quite a few places including by Rise Records. Plus it is available to be bought right now when the rest of the album is. I may be wrong but I think that's a single. Discovering The Waterfront (talk) 18:30, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

The definition of a single is something that's frequently debated in modern times, especially on Wikipedia. Check out this archived discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums/Archive 49#What makes a single a single? from September 2014. There was no clear-cut result, but a lot of editors brought a lot of interesting points to the table. I suggested that many publications falsely use the term single, making it hard to really use sources when they will literally describe any song as a single. Other editors chimed in and said a single must be released separately from an album.

There's a huge difference between being able to buy a song separately from an album, and being able to buy a song individually from an album, and that's the key distinction a lot of editors will make. For example, all 12 songs from I Am Alive In Everything I Touch can be purchased individually: [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. But does this mean I Am Alive In Everything I Touch is not a studio album, but rather a compilation of singles? No, this is merely a byproduct of the digital market. What does make a single in the digital market? If it's sold separately from the album, rather than individually. For example [13] here we see the single for Silverstein's "Massachusetts" on Amazon. It has it's own release date, it's own cover art, and instead of saying it's from the album This Is How the Wind Shifts, it says it's from "Massachusetts" — or that is to say it is it's own release. As of right now, I don't see a way to obtain the track "A Midwestern State of Emergency" separately from the album, I only see things like the iTunes pre-order that allow me to by the song individually from the album. First to Last

You're on the border of edit warring on From First to Last and, you're wrong, at least in part: it is used on several articles I've seen. There is no consensus on what the format should be as editors cannot agree. The format you have elected to side with is against MOS:HEADING (or some other guideline) as it has multiple short sections. There was one editor pushing the use of colons instead of bullets, but in the only discussion I could find there wasn't a "no consensus" outcome, several editors raised several issues with its use and the OP dropped his argument. If you see this format used on other article, that doesn't make it right to do. For example, several band articles currently misuse the "associated acts" field. But just because a few articles are misusing it does not mean this misuse should be widespread. The same goes for removing bullets and adding pseudo-headings. Just because a few articles erroneously use this format, does not grant you permission to spread this misuse. I'll agree with semicolons for bold headings and colons, although that is what is required for accessibility.

What paragraphs? That's a bizarre and irrelevant thing to mention in a discussion about lists. Can you explain how "short paragraphs" are even remotely related to what we're talking about and link me to any sort of supporting documentation? And actually, what you're adding to these articles are known in HTML as "Definition Lists" and their use hinders web accessibility and doesn't seem appropriate for use in listing band members/instruments/years active in general. Per Wikipedia's own definition of definition lists at HTML element, they are "intended for groups of terms and definitions, metadata topics and values, questions and answers, or any other groups of name–value data." Since Wikipedia's information on DLs is quite minimal — likely because they're generally quite useless as far as HTML tags are concerned — there is plenty of free information online about them from various websites, like this HTML design website that states: "Although definition lists can be styled to look like tabular data, they cannot contain screen reader accessibility features such as 'labels' and 'headers' to tie information together. For this reason, they should not be used to replace complex tabular data." In other words, someone who needs a list of band members to be accessible to them will be hindered by your contributions. They will not be able to navigate sections since there are none, and as someone with a screenreader myself, it just reads the pseudoheading and first line as one word ("currentspencersotelo"). False on both accounts. Paragraphs are groupings of sentences, and sentences are complete sets of words containing at the very least a subject and a predicate, and end with a punctuation mark. Members sections are not "essentially paragraphs" no matter how you spin it. But even if they were, you still have not provided any policy or guideline that frowns upon "short sections," which appears to be the heart of your misguided argument. Also, I'm not the one editing against the status quo of band members sections, so I'm not the one who needs consensus for maintaining an aspect of Wikipedia that's been present and undisputed for over a decade. I also don't need consensus to label sections as sections or lists things in lists for the same reason I don't need to seek consensus for starting a sentence with the word "The" — it's patently obvious that these aren't controversial moves. As for status quo: when you edit war to create the status quo, you can't use that as an argument. You should really, as a registered editor, be trying to clarify MoS and other guidelines instead of relying on the consensus of silence. I'm glad that your final comment is above. My entire edit description didn't fit at the article history page so I'm commenting here. You're correct that Southern Lord released a Dopesmoker re-issue in 2012. And yes, TeePee did release the first official version of Dopesmoker in 2003. But the very first release, the 1998 "official bootleg" of Jerusalem with no label information and featuring Arik's austere beige desert artwork with the crucified pot leaf on the back... For longer-term editing projects, I'd recommend working on sections or a full draft in your sandbox until it's ready to be incorporated into the article. The tag at the top of the page is meant more for rapid updating, not sporadic updating every-so-often. I'm curious, though -- why must there be repeated parts until you're finished? Deftones Album Chronology

Hi, I see you have reverted the changes made to the Deftones chronology such as with this edit on the pages Gore (album), Koi No Yokan, and Live: Volume I - Selections from Adrenaline. If we were to include "all albums and EPs", then we would have to include the albums, Live (Deftones album), Back to School (Mini Maggit) (which has both a single and an EP), and possibly even Music in High Places: Live in Hawaii (as it is considered an album). Would you have a problem with these (and any future EP's someone creates a page for) being added into the chain, or should we continue to exclude these albums which are essentially similar releases to the Live: Volume I - Selections from Adrenaline album?  Adrian^[232] 15:30, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

You know, I didn't check to see if the entire Deftones chronology chain was intact when I made my edit. I currently only have the most recent Deftones albums in my watchlist. The last discussion I remember having on the subject (here) suggested that all non-singles should be included in the chain, even if they don't have articles, unless the band as a particularly lengthy discography. I don't think they have a lengthy or complicated discography, so we should add them to chain as I don't see much use in isolating them. Fezmar9 (talk) 15:40, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Deftones post-metal

I was more referring to how many there are total in existence, not how many are currently present in the article. But even if you want to talk about what's present in the article, Deftones still shouldn't be categorized as being a post-metal band. I believe to be categorized under a genre, there should be an abundance of sources that make the claim "Deftones is a post-metal band" -- not "Deftones have a song that's post-metal" or "Deftones are kind of post-metal" or "Deftones play with post-metal bands" the sources need to directly and explicitly claim "Deftones IS a post-metal band." The first source[14] claims they've dabbled in post-metal, the second source[15] claims they're a metalgaze band not post-metal and there aren't very many sources that agree these are synonyms, and the third source[16] is vaguely worded but I believe it's actually referring to Isis as "post-metal icons" since, you know, they actually are post-metal icons. So even if you wanted to go by the three sources present, there's not a strong case there.

But directly related sources aside, let's examine what makes a band "post-metal". Below I've set up a table of post-metal characteristics and compared them to both Deftones and Isis. The genre takes a postmodernist approach to metal stereotypes/cliches and tries to push the boundaries of those limits while still remaining inside the field of metal.

It's my personal belief that music critics and wikipedia editors who strongly believe Deftones ARE a post-metal band merely want to say that the band has a lot of atmosphere, which they do. I don't have any objections to the majority of your content, but please do not restore the list-defined reference style without seeking others' input on the talk page.
