Hello FinixFighter, I was unable to find significant independent coverage of Shooting Star (film distributor) so it seems that the subject may not be notable enough for a Wikipedia article yet. I have therefore proposed the article for deletion. If you disagree with that or are otherwise opposed to the article's deletion in any way, you should edit the page and remove the deletion tag from the page. You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. – Thjarkur (talk) 12:48, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Short descriptions[edit]

Hello, FinixFighter. Thank you for your edits, wherein you add short descriptions to articles (some of which I've seen on my watchlist). Could I ask you to please pay attention to the capitalization? The guidance at WP:HOWTOSD tells us to begin each entry with a capital letter, so, e.g., it would be Fishing tool instead of fishing tool at Spoon lure. Thanks, and happy editing. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 02:58, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@JohnFromPinckney Thank you for the suggestion! I initially used capital letters, then the Wikipedia app (which I use for adding short descriptions) started to display me a warning about capital letters, that's why I was not using them anymore. But I'll use capital letters again now, thanks for your suggestion! User:FinixFighter 09:18, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It seems the software tools are not always so well coordinated. I just saw a discussion somewhere about how one tool (a bot, I think) was changing the template to (capital "S") while another tool was determined to use (small "s"), and they were just stepping on each others' toes. (They've resolved to both using "Short", BTW.) Best regards,— JohnFromPinckney (talk) 09:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello FinixFighter! Your additions to Vizio have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 12:27, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

List of stop motion films question[edit]

Hi, I saw your edit "This film is already present int the "live-action with stop motion features films" list" under the List of stop motion movies article and you're right, it is already in that category, but. I would argue that The New Gulliver is a stop motion movie with some (maybe 20%) live action sequences rather than a live action movie with stop motion sequences. Even the Wikipedia article for the movie describes it as a "Soviet stop motion-animated cartoon". I would like to hear you opinion regarding this topic.HotSpoto (talk) 17:14, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You're right, it's hard to decide such a thing and I had doubts myself in the past. My personal conclusion was that, generally, a person would use the main list (stop-motion feature) in order to search for films which are only stop-motion. Hence a film with a live-action sequence, even if not predominant in the film, would go in the live-action features. Anyway the main problem is always about where the limit is, since there are actually stop-motion features with live-action sequences of some seconds or minutes, maybe in the initial part of the film. What should we do in these cases? That's quite hard to decide. However, I don't know this particular film, but maybe you're right and we could move it in the stop-motion film if, as you said, the live action sequences are around 20% of it. FinixFighter (talk) 19:05, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I will watch the movie right now and calculate a somewhat precise estimate of the live action sequences over the length of the whole movie. I will edit this reply when I'm finished. Initial live action sequence: from 0:00:00 to 0:15:44. Few seconds of live action scenes are present throughout the movie (they amount to maybe 10 to 15 minutes). Final live action sequence: from 1:10:57 to 1:12:49. A rough 32 minutes are live action, hence the percentage of live action over movie length is about 45% (way off my initial estimate). I leave you the decision on which section to put this movie. Thank you for your time. HotSpoto (talk) 15:54, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
