Templates

Thanks for the OPJHL Template. DMighton 09:10, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Syntax

Ok, I'm having some issues. My templates won't go right across the page... how can I fix that? Here is an example Template:MJAHL. DMighton 04:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia inserts standardized margins around articles. Flibirigit 04:32, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
If you look at the league site though... it appears to be like 2 inches wide... Maritime Junior A Hockey League DMighton 05:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Looks fine on my screen. Each user's computer may resolve the wikicodes differently on the monitor. Flibirigit 05:28, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I hope so, it looks terrible on mine, but I'll take your word. DMighton 02:41, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Templates and Template:CHL team

Thanks for the note -- actually, that's the template I'm modifying a copy of, off on a temp page in my userspace. Once I get it down, and where it won't break anything else, I'll discuss copying my changes back over the CHL team template. -- ArglebargleIV 17:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I've put together an extended and fully conditional version of Template:CHL team in my userspace, currently called User:ArglebargleIV/teamtemplate. Take a look at User:ArglebargleIV/testing team template. I used DMighton's examples in there, let me know what you think, and thanks for the advice!. -- ArglebargleIV 18:12, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Background Info

I originally designed Template:CHL team for all teams in the Canadian Hockey League. At the time only Template:OHL team existed. and the QMJHL and WHL had only tables or no infobox. Devan and I chose to add "affiliates" to the box, but it needed to be optional. The "conference" field as also made optional for the QMJHL.

Since then, I've planned to make changes, but have not had much time. I'd like to add more optional fields to make the template applicable to defunct teams. Such fields are, "existence," "nhl affiliation" (which could be parent club) and so on. For examples, look at:

I'm comfortable adding these optional fields. I'd rather exclude the arena capacity and rink size. I just haven't had time to replace the text on over 100 teams.

A further project which I may not get to for a while is making Template:AHL team. Currently all those teams use tables. Flibirigit 19:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Implementation

Well Flib, what do you think of it? DMighton 19:36, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to implement it for every hockey team in Canada, professional leagues excluded for now. Flibirigit 19:43, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Alright... then lets do it... the ones I've been doing so far have been very "rag-tag"... let's clean it up. Is it set up to go now? Or are the kinks worked out yet? DMighton 19:49, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I've implemented the changes worked on and suggested by ArglebargleIV, with the following changes:

    • Tean name is fixed as per article title.
    • League is a mandatory field.
    • City is a mandatory field.

Flibirigit 20:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC) LET'S UPDATE PAGES!! THANKS GUYS!! Flibirigit 20:20, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Other leagues?

I've added capacity and ice size to my test version, but as optional sub-field of Home Arena -- take a look, if you like it I'll copy it over to CHL team template. -- ArglebargleIV 20:42, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I'd rather leave it out, but if folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey want it, then so be it. I'd also like to convince them that Template:CHL team is sufficient for American Hockey League teams. Thanks! Flibirigit 20:47, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Subnote: Ice size, Mascots and ticket prices were omitted from older templates due to cumbersome sizes, and questionable wikiworthiness. Flibirigit 21:15, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
I like those changes. I'll try to update some of the Jr A/Jr B teams as I have time. Resolute 20:57, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Incidentally, given that the scope of this template is being expanded to include other levels of junior hockey, and possibly even minor pro (which I would support), would it perhaps make sense to rename the template to something a little more generic? Resolute 23:40, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
It could be renamed, but then we have to change the text on every article its included on. Anyone have a robot? It could be called Template:Hockey team. Flibirigit 23:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I just moved the template. It still works!! Flibirigit 23:50, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Jason, can you help me... what is going on with the logo here: Oak Ridges Dynes. DMighton 07:16, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
If you have a photo that is 131x129 pixels, it may not resolve well to the parameters at 125x124 pixels. Needs a greater change in size to display well. Flibirigit 07:58, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Also, the team name in the infobox doesn't reflect the team name entered into the text -- See: Richmond Hill Rams (MetJHL). So, I've done all the related teams for the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, Superior International Junior Hockey League, and Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League so far... DMighton 08:04, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
You can add the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League to the done list. DMighton 10:51, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I changed the paramter for the title. If you do not enter a name.. the default will be the article title. For the cases that have a (bracketed suffix) you can enter a name without the bracket, ie. Richmond Hill Rams. Flibirigit 08:12, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I have only had time to update the Defunct QMJHL teams. Flibirigit 08:12, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, not Richmond Hill... I meant Hamilton Red Wings Jr. A... I figured it out though... I was using the CHL Team Template... DMighton 08:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Ice hockey template (response)

I can take a look at it tonight, if that's okay -- thanks -- ArglebargleIV 14:38, 20 November 2006 (UTC) I can take a look at it tonight, if that's okay -- thanks -- ArglebargleIV 14:38, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

OK, I've changed the Hockey team template to have up to 10 franchise moves. See User:ArglebargleIV/testing team template for an example -- the bottom "Galt" one uses the Hockey team template. -- ArglebargleIV 21:27, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm thinking of using the hockey info boxes for the lacrosse articles too... I think they'll be pretty cool. DMighton 06:38, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Good luck. Let me know if you need help. Flibirigit 08:57, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Hockey Template

Your AHL season page is my first page on new page patrol. I see you do great work on hockey. Have you seen my Template:Professional Hockey? I am not sure where it should be placed and how to add internationl leagues to make it more analogous to templates I have created for the 4 major sports. Let me know if you have any use for it or any feedback for me. TonyTheTiger 21:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I would leave it as is, and place on the bottom of league pages. Flibirigit 17:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I just came across another of your pages 1984-5. I think the other one was in the 70s keep up the good work. TonyTheTiger 16:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Flibirigit 17:41, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Response to: "conference championships"

You are right, while I have been inputing the new templates I've also been looking at that. I didn't look at the regular teams, but as for the defunct teams, the start of the list up to the Cincinnati Swords have been filtered of the "finals appearances". Don't know if you wanted to include that, but if it is notable, we could include them later. Salisbury Steak (complaint dept. - contribs) 18:12, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

"Founded" part of template

I just wanted to clear something up. Does the "Founded" area of the template mean when the current team was put there or does it mean when the franchise wa first founded as another team? I ask this because a user switched the "founded" date for the Providence Bruins and Toronto Marlies. Salisbury Steak (complaint dept. - contribs) 23:37, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Founded was intended only for teams that currently exist. Operated was meant for defunct teams. Flibirigit 01:52, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Template images

I noticed you need some editprotected work to be done. As I am a sysop and a very active member of the Wikiproject, would like to drop off some edits that need to be done on my talkpage, as I am available (please do it before Friday evening, though, as I'm out Friday evening-Monday morning Ontario time. Thanks! --Клоун 00:09, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, will do. But I want to wait until Monday, to make sure there is a consensus. Flibirigit 00:37, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

GLJHL Navbox

The GLJHL navbox is obsolete.. I was going to speedy it soon and replace all pages that have it with Template:OHA-C. DMighton 19:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

LOL figures.. I was using it my test edits anyhow. Flibirigit 19:15, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Template:Countries with Latin Populations

Hello Flibirigit! We seem to have yet another problem with a racialized "Latin" template, I'm speaking of Template:Countries with Latin Populations (Talk). I've tagged as OR - could you comment please? Thank you. The Ogre 13:28, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Flags on navboxes

Hi Flibirigit, I had noticed that you've added the country flag to {{British ice hockey}}. I removed it as per WP:FLAG because I felt it didn't "help the reader not decorate". However, I've since noticed that you added them to the other European country navboxes and didn't want to remove them all without giving you a chance to put your point of view across. Cheers -- JD554 09:07, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I've started a discussion in an attempt to reach a consensus on the Navbox talk page. -- JD554 (talk) 08:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Navbox Problem

Djasso suggested that you may know how to correct an issue I am having. If you could take a look here and let me know what you think. Thanks. - Rjd0060 (talk) 22:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
