What? Additional accounts? The last username left was taken (talk) 07:31, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, User:(Abuse of our Username policy) was created from your computer a few days ago. Wikipedia's policies don't allow users to operate more than one account except in very narrowly defined cases. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:09, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
According to what, CheckUser? The last username left was taken (talk) 12:55, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello , The last username left was taken; I am not a checkuser but, the Checkuser you are addressing here left This link on your talk page to the policy page that explains the use of multiple accounts. Cheers. Mlpearc powwow 15:05, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware of the multiple account policy. However, I was confused about the existence of the account. The last username left was taken (talk) 22:38, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, according to technical evidence from checkuser. I'll ask again; why are you creating multiple accounts? Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:36, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Several of the IP addresses that I edit from are shared between multiple people, it's possible that one of them created it. The last username left was taken (talk) 22:38, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A message from WikiProject Wikify!

Thanks for participating in the October 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive! We made significant progress, wikifying hundreds of articles. However, the backlog still needs a large amount of effort--discussions about the next drive (in December) are underway. Until then, happy editing!

Black Falcon /User page edits

Hi! I edited your user page to remove a few categories which did not belong (including two mainspace categories), and I did not read your editnotice until after I had already clicked "Save". So, I just wanted to let you know about this edit. Cheers, -- Black Falcon (talk) 01:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for pointing out your edit. It is not a good idea to edit someones user space without first discussing it with the user. Mlpearc powwow 01:22, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In my experience, most editors do not mind such minor changes. However, I did not realize that you do, and so please accept my apologies.
Now, as to the substance of my edit: please remove your user page from Category:Logic and Category:Profanity. According to the categorization guideline, user pages should not be placed in content categories. Thank you, -- Black Falcon (talk) 01:28, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This Editor dose not mind someone bringing something to my attention. As far as the Categories they are within userboxes. Mlpearc powwow 01:32, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if you'll look more closely, they are appended after userboxes which you (I assume) substituted into your user page. As for your edit summary: I understood, I will not edit your user space anymore. Thank you, -- Black Falcon (talk) 01:38, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies accepted. Good Day. Mlpearc powwow 01:46, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Removal of cn tag from a BLP

This edit is confusing. I'm asking for a source for information in a WP:BLP. You've removed the request for a source with the comment, "Don't see the need for this "Now"?." I do not understand what you are trying to say. - SummerPhD (talk) 15:47, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Both Grant and Tori's pages are approx. 5 years old and now you need references to "Where they were born" ? It just seems a little late to request that. If this is a requirement for "All" BLP pages then I stand corrected. The pages are well established. Mlpearc powwow 15:53, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter how old the pages are or when the info was added. Any info in any article can be challenged if not supported by a cite to a reliable source. While this is especially true for controversial information about living people, it is not limited to them. - SummerPhD (talk) 20:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel that having a reference there is needed then there is nothing else I need to say. Cheers Mlpearc powwow 21:32, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at the article, first name is used frequently throughout (due to frequent discussion of brothers, perhaps?). Not sure that revert was justified, unless you are going to change all the occurrences throughout the article. Yworo (talk) 22:47, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE / Drive – Final push

Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Thank you once again for participating, and see you at the finish line! – SMasters (talk) 04:05, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE / November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January!

Chalmers Goodlin edit errors

Hello Mlpearc. Thank you for you welcome. Because I'm new I don't understand why my edit is getting re-edited and why my references are not being accepted as verifiable. This is the message I got from TNXMan.

Please do not add unsourced content, as you did to Chalmers Goodlin. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. TNXMan 18:42, 4 January 2011 (UTC).

I'd contact TNXMan but don't know how yet and you invited me to ask questions. I appreciate that.

If you would look at the Chalmers Goodlin wiki page edit you will see that I am referencing quotes from Chalmers Goodlin himself. The statements made about Goodlin's life that I edited out are fantasy from the movie The Right Stuff and Chuck Yeager's opinion of why Goodlin did not get to break the sound barrier in the X-1. The quotes I use are from Goodlin's own mouth and are historically accurate.

I would appreciate your assistance on this. I don't want to be blocked by TNXMan for trying to edit historically inaccurate statements. Just because the statements I edited out came from a book or movie does not make them accurate.

Thank you for your time and help on this. Burnelli1 Burnelli1 (talk) 22:48, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On Saturday January 15, 2011, Wikipedia will turn 10 years and people all over the globe will be celebrating Wikipedia on that day. No event is currently planned for Orange County Wikipedians, so I am leaving a message with some of the currently involved editors listed in "Wikipedians in Orange County, California" & "Wikipedians in Southern California" to see if we might want to meet on that day, lunch, dinner, group photo or other ideas welcomed? I will start a "Turning Ten" discussion thread on my Talk page to see if any interest can be planned for and determined. Hey, I recently made a change on the JRR Tolkien page that I thought improved it. I gave my reasons. You undid it without explaining your reasons. You don't get to do that. You are not the keeper of all truth. Knee-jerk undoing like what you did just discourages people from participating in the Wikipedia project. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.125.54.124 (talk) 15:30, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion criteria

You tagged User:Mlpearc/Valentino (1951) [a redirect from your userspace to Valentino (1951 film)] for speedy deletion under criterion R2, a redirect from the book namespace to any other namespace or from mainspace to any of several namespaces. I've deleted the page, but under criterion U1 (deletion requested by own user) — in the future, please don't tag pages in your own userspace for R2 deletion. I'm not complaining at you: it's simply that an admin might decline the speedy simply because that criterion doesn't apply and because the admin doesn't observe that you requested deletion in your own userspace. Simply tagging for U1 speedy deletion will be more certain of getting the page deleted. Nyttend (talk) 05:06, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.

Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 19:31, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your interest in joining Wikipedia. I've noticed that most of your previous edits to Wikipedia constitute vandalism, even though you may have reverted most of them. Please note that an account is NOT a license to vandalize. I've created the account in good faith.

Information on your first login:

You will receive a separate automated e-mail from wiki@wikimedia.org with your login credentials. You can use these to log in for the first time, when you will be prompted to create a new password.

When you have successfully logged in, you may find the "getting started" section of our help pages useful (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents/Getting_started). Of particular interest may be the introduction to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Introduction) which has some information to help you get up to speed with the way things work on the encyclopedia.

One useful hint: when you have logged in for the first time and created your own password, go to your preferences (the link for them is right at the top of the screen), and ensure your email address is set where indicated. Should you forget your password, then this will allow you to have a new one sent to you!

I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy your time on Wikipedia.

GOCE / Mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.

Progress report

We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Utahraptor resigns

The UtahraptorTalk to me has decided to step down from his position as project coordinator due to real-life issues.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:33, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PERFORMANCE OF ENGINES

The units for the power developed by engines are either HP or KW depending upon the system used.. I have recently seen some publications using the term'PS' as units of power. I will be grateful if this term 'PS' as a unit of power is defined and introduced by some expert for me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stveetil (talkcontribs) 17:41, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE / GOCE drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

New coodinators

On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. Please feel free to contact any coordinator if you have any questions or need assistance.
