MOS:DATEFORMAT
Regarding your change on P. V. Sindhu, MOS:DATEFORMAT only applies to body text. ISO dates are always allowed, as they're agnostic to DMY vs. MDY, and they're numerical only. Furthermore, when used in references, they get formatted correctly based on the article's established date format, so they're even preferred in that sense. Getsnoopy (talk) 18:35, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- No, only "Quotations and Titles" are exempt from MOS:DATE. For references we can use any style, check WP:CITESTYLE which says "
Although nearly any consistent style may be used, avoid all-numeric date formats other than YYYY-MM-DD
". While exception is made for YYYY-MM-DD (which is numerical), they are not preferred. And it would still be ambiguous for some editors in the edit mode who doesn't know what YYYY-MM-DD is. For example, 2019-05-04 might mean 4th May or 5th April. Secondly, most users follow DMY or MDY based on the format used by the subject's country, in both the text and references. Not to mention, it is better to maintain parity, in the article, since only a small number of refs would be in YYYY-MM-DD. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:40, 31 October 2019 (UTC)- @Fylindfotberserk: "They are not preferred"—Do you have any evidence to back up this claim? ISO formats are universal on WP (let alone the world). You'd have to show me evidence that there are editors who are editing articles who aren't familiar with it. YDM is practically non-existent (not to mention explicitly forbidden in MoS), which is one of the main reasons ISO 8601 was created in the first place; using YDM as a potential point of confusion is not a convincing argument. Getsnoopy (talk) 17:29, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- Read WP:CITESTYLE properly. Nowhere it is written that YYYY-MM-DD is the "preferred" MOS:DATE style. It is merely an acceptable format of numericals, other types of which are not allowed. As for most editors (IPs included), they just copy-paste whatever is there in the references. Indian news agencies mostly use MDY and that too the abbreviated one e.g. "Jan 26, 2018" here. Other formats are also used widely and ends up in the article as such. It is always better to maintain a parity. Besides, when updating using script, DMY and MDY are available only. And since Indian articles use DMY, you shouldn't be worried. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:38, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
- I did read it properly, and I never claimed that YMD is the preferred format according to MoS. It seems like you were claiming that they weren't preferred, so I wanted you to back up the claim. I said that it's easier to use as a practical point since it's agnostic of what the article's established date format is, and it will be dynamically formatted properly. And I'm not "worried", I'm merely pointing out the fact that you cited WP:DATEFORMAT in the article's change, but changed a reference date style (which the policy doesn't apply to) from one that was valid to begin with, so I wanted to make sure you were aware that it is indeed valid. I agree consistency is good, but I just wanted to raise the point about the benefits of using the YMD style. Getsnoopy (talk) 02:38, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Check WP:MOSDATE again, the policy is only exempt from Quotations and Titles. it specifically writes -
These requirements do not apply to dates in quotations or titles
.
Check MOS:DATEUNIFY. See the bold phrases in the excerpt below -
Publication dates in an article's citations should all use the same format, which may be:
- the format used in the article body text,
- the format expected in the citation style being used (however, all-numeric date formats other than yyyy-mm-dd must still be avoided).
- For example, publication dates within a single article might be in one, but only one, of these formats (among others):
- Jones, J. (20 September 2008)
- Jones, J. (September 20, 2008)
Check WP:CITESTYLE -
Although nearly any consistent style may be used, avoid all-numeric date formats other than YYYY-MM-DD
- Which I've explained above.
So no need to make an issue of something trivial. As I said, it is better to maintain parity. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:09, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi, i need your guidance in citation as i observed you using #UCB_Gadget in many articles. - As per directions at User:Citation_bot/use#via_the_citation_expander_gadget, There will be 2 options of which i am able to run 2nd option of "Expand citations" link in my left toolbar. But i am not able to use 1st option of ✔ Citations button below the editing window between the Show changes and Cancel buttons. Because when i edits any article this button is not reflecting.( !dea4u 06:24, 2 November 2019 (UTC))

HDI tag on Mumbai / Other Metropolitan cities
Thank You for the edit on Mumbai. As I am a beginner on Wikipedia, having used it only as reference since my childhood, I would like to know why couldn't I not add the HDI tag at first, after countless tries, and what did you do to make it appear? Thanking you! RB — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riddhidev BISWAS (talk • contribs) 14:32, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Riddhidev BISWAS Thanks for communicating. Firstly, sign your comments by adding '4 ~' at the end. The parameter will not show up because it is invalid. Check Template:Infobox settlement which is the infobox type in that article, there is nothing called "HDI" there. So we have to use a "blank parameter", which I've done. Read the template thoroughly, you'll know. Ask if you need help. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:37, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk Thanks for explaining. I went through the article but didn't find how to use said black parameter would you please explain to me how it's done? Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 15:09, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Riddhidev BISWAS My apologies LOL. Wrote black instead of "blank". Those parms are named "blank_name_sec1", etc. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:12, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- I have added the HDI parameter to Kolkata using your instructions and I guess it worked. The attached article is a bit old (2004) but the HDI was measured using UN norms, so I'll give them that! Would you please check it out and see if it's okay?
Thanks again Fylindfotberserk Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 18:53, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

- Riddhidev BISWAS, I've lived in many states and I self-identify as an Indian Indo-Aryan speaker. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:23, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk - Good, I myself am both an Indo-European speaker as well as Indo-Aryan. Thanks again for all your help mate. Will reach out to you once I am stuck again.. Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 19:31, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Good morning Fylindfotberserk, I wanted to ask you how I could edit the Chennai Page as 1) it still shows wrongfully that it is a megacity, while it is a global agglomeration of 10 million + ( like kolkata and not the city itself) and 2) I would like to put the HDI parameter for Chennai too which is lacking. Seems this cannot be modified as it is heavily secured against possible vandalism. Thanks again! Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 05:10, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Riddhidev BISWAS, The Chennai article is extended protected. You can do one of the 2 things. First method, make an Edit request at Talk:Chennai, that you want HDI figures to be added in the infobox and also provide reliable sources in support of this. Your request should be of the format "Please include HDI in the infobox which is X as per this XYZ reliable source". Second method, wait till you get to 500 edits, which will automatically grant you extended confirmed user status. Then you add the content yourself. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:27, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Ah Thanks mate Fylindfotberserk I'll try both. In the meanwhile I'll see if I can get back my infobox page which I had accidentally changed to a general page, which now has been deleted.. Riddhidev BISWAS (talk) 13:55, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

Reverted edit on Luka Chuppi
Regarding your revert of my changes on Luka Chuppi: I appreciate that there's a discussion on Talk:Tiger Zinda Hai, but the issue is pretty much a dead horse at this point. If you check WP:ICTF, even the main page lists million/billion as the unit in its only example of gross revenues. Its talk page has brought this issue up multiple times, with either no preference either way or with conversions, which aren't allowed in Infoboxes. Again, while there is some sort of opinion against currency conversions, there's no strong opinion on crore/lakh vs. million/billion, and so WP:COMMONALITY would dictate that more common terms should win. While I'm happy to keep discussing the issue on the Tiger Zinda Hai talk page, it doesn't preclude my changes; please stop reverting my changes regarding this issue. Regarding you reverting my edit on the Faizabad District page
Update: Ah shucks, I just saw that you looked at the ref yourself and made the necessary corrections. So, all good! Hey there! So Faizabad District consists of two cities, Faizabad and Ayodhya. Faizabad city used to be the administrative headquarters of the district - but it no longer is[1]. All my edit did was to make the change reflect in the article and the infobox. That's it. I don't think this violates WP:COMMONNAME.

The Barnstar of Diligence | ||
Fylindfotberserk, you have one of the weirdest usernames. I'm still never sure how to pronounce it even though you provide instructions on your user page. I don't normally give barnstars, not because I don't appreciate people's efforts, but because most of the people I encounter are either long-time editors who don't really care about collecting barnstars, or casual editors and vandals who have no longevity here. You have been doing an amazing job monitoring tons of Indian entertainment articles, you have demonstrated a strong desire to learn and to adhere to community guidelines, and you are both diligent and dedicated. That is awesome, and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your hard work! Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:18, 17 November 2019 (UTC) |
- @Cyphoidbomb: You made my day sir. Your mentoring has a lot to do with what I'm today in Wikipedia. My name is supposed to be pronounced just like the word Fylfot, with IND in between . This username was intended as a protest against random euro-centrists and supremacist that used to plague genetics and Indian history related articles and respective talk pages like R1a in late 2000s and early 2010s. Kept it subtle by not using the (in)famous term Swastika. And berserk because I'm interested in Norse myths since 8th standard. That's after Greek myths which I started to like after reading encyclopedias and watching films like Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, Hercules (Steeve Reeves's one), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (for the Centaur), etc as a kid. I'm a big fan of Ray Harryhausen's work.

- Singhtejass PinkVilla is not considered reliable as per WP:ICTF. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:42, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
Ok admin use this hansindia source and add pinkvilla as supportive source https://thehansindia.com/cinema/kollywood/vijay-most-bankable-tamil-actor-as-bigil-collections-near-300-crores-in-third-week-579442 Singhtejass (talk) 10:20, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Singhtejass HansIndia is also typically avoided. Find Times of India, Indian Express, etc. Are you User:Giskonn by any chance? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:25, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
who is he/she? my name is singhtejas and i found out you are the admin of bigil since you replied to my friend in bigil talk page 1000 crore box office. Singhtejass (talk) 10:30, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

you there admin? update the gross with the above times of india and behindwoods source thank you Singhtejass (talk) 11:35, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Singhtejass, BehindWoods is not relible. As for the reliable Tamil source, "பிகில் வசூல் ரூ. 300 கோடி" translates to "Pickle Collection Rs. 300 crores" in google translate. I'm confused. Besides, collects 300 crores can include other incomes like satellite rights, etc. We need a source whihc says that the "Worldwide gross is 300 crores". Can't you get to a reliable English source? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:58, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
pickle or bigil both are same only in tamil its pronunciation is pickle use that samyam times of india source same samyam times of india is used for sarkar just now i saw you asked for reliable and i have given you add it Singhtejass (talk) 12:27, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Singhtejass, OK but it says collection, whihc can include other ways of income. We need to be sure that the collection only comes from theatrical sales, ie gross figures. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:43, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
collection means gross box office collection in tamil it is a slang Singhtejass (talk) 12:47, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- I've been doing this a lot. Collection might be inclusive of other stuff as well. We need to be explicit. Find another source please and I'll try to find one. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:50, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
urimai is called rights in tamil, wheares collection is only film box office collection in tamil slang 100 percent sure add it you will rock on Singhtejass (talk) 12:54, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk, I think this user is a sock of Bothiman. Same with Giskonn in the section above this one. He's apparently picked you to do his pro-Vijay dirty work. You might want to keep your eyes peeled. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:58, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb: Yeah, I saw that SPI. Got deceived real bad. I'm never gonna take any Vijay related reqiests, especially if made on my talk page. Damn that's embarrassing. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:07, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

Madhyamgram
I never said that You ( Fylindfotberserk) check Kolkata Metropolitan Area. I know that some Metropolitan area city is not Kolkata. Why you not check Kolkata Pincode area details. There is mention that All Kolkata Pincode or Zipcode (700001 to 700162) area City Kolkata.
◇◇ Why You ( Fylindfotberserk) are not check Kolkata Zip code or area Pincode details??. The Kolkata Zipcode area is start 700001 and end to 700162. And All Kolkata zipcode Area City is Kolkata. And that's point Madhyamgram also belongs to Kolkata zipcode area. And that's reason Madhyamgram obviously city is Kolkata. You check it. AmitMondal1299 (talk) 16:17, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- @AmitMondal1299: The Madhyamgram article clearly mentions that it is under "Kolkata Metropolitan Area" and is covered by "Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA)". But the census India considers it as a separate census town. This is what should be added. Example, Jalpaiguri article doesn't say it is a neighbourhood of Siliguri, but both are part of the same UA. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:21, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
Why you only check KMDA AmitMondal1299 (talk) 16:28, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
Why you only Check out Kolkata Metropolitan Area . All Kolkata Metropolitan Area City is not Kolkata all people know that. Only All Kolkata Zipcode Area or Pincode (700001 to 700162) area city is only Kolkata AmitMondal1299 (talk) 16:30, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- Pincode is not a source. Census.go.in is - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:40, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
All Kolkata Metropolitan Area is not Belongs to Kolkata Zipcode Area. And that's reason All Kolkata Metropolitan area city is not Kolkata All people here know about that.Only All Kolkata Zipcode Area or Pincode (700001 to 700162) area city is only Kolkata. I several times said you that. You learn about Kolkata Metropolitan Area vs Kolkata Zipcode or Kolkata Pincode(700001 to 700162) area. Only Kolkata Pincode (700001 to 700162) area City is Kolkata. ArbCom 2019 election voter message
Two questions
What's centre-right socialism exactly?
Did you just take a wild guess about your ethnicity or did you get a 23andMe or equivalent test done? If the latter - more info about the test because I'd love to know my ethnicity and genetic makeup as well.
- If national socialism is too right, centre-right would be cloder to the centre . No wild guesses, I'm an Indo-Aryan speaker and Brahmin so. I've some distant Indo-Scythian like ancestry too. I didn't get my DNA checked. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:28, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
Prayagraj(Allahabad)
Please see my Prod of Prayagraj(Allahabad). Guessing that someone (author?) will undo it. Mathglot (talk) 10:04, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Mathglot: Yeah, malformed title. Totally unnecessary. I wonder who's going to search "Prayagraj(Allahabad)". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:14, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
Don't Malign India and its respectable organisations
Why is the data against Hindus and India it looks like there is a malicious intent by reference to anti hindu books! There are positive books and when ever I tried other editors undo them. Please be fair because partiality always has a consequence. I found RSS page is locked fearing Vandalism. Is it that or resistance to malign an organisation? Don't slander Wikipedia will be the loser in the end as its image becomes tainted. Ajganguly (talk) 07:34, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Ajganguly: I do not remember reverting your edit. Secondly, you can't delete long standing reliably sourced content all of a sudden without discussing in the talk page. That's disruptive. Not to mention the other IP that's been adding content that already mentioned in the article. These are the reasons why the article got locked. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:28, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: I never said you reverted the edits! Blaming me for editing is not helpful? Did I lock the page? I made an edit and that is what Wikipedia is exactly for!
My point is Wikipedia is a great resource for us and it should not be misused for negative propaganda. A long standing misinformation doesn't become fact due to time. If I don't have time for the next two months because I am in a project in Irvine, does it mean that the wrong information someone edits in becomes right due to passage of time. Please be sensible and do justice such that wrong information gets corrected for the greater good. Lets talk... First look at my edits and let me know where I am wrong and lets work ahead. Ajganguly (talk) 12:06, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- The RSS's admiration of Hitler and Mussolini's fascist government is sourced in the article. As per WP:STATUS QUO, you cannot remove it outright. You have to discuss your issues. And kindly, don't do it in my talkpage. Doug Weller already left a little bit of instruction in your talkpage. Let the discussion happen in the RSS talkpage. And don't be in a hurry. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:10, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

- @EgeMalak10: I reverted it because you didn't provide a source in support of your change. I have updated it to 2019 with source. Hope it is OK now. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:02, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
Greetings, In the above-mentioned article if you navigate to the See also section. There are too many article with redlinks. Is it suitable for an article to have these many articles within the See also section. As I don't know much about that I am consulting you. Thanks Beastranger (talk) 12:29, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Beastranger: Yup, seems disruptive since there was already another "See also" section. I got another one Transport in Maharashtra, edited similarly. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:06, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
Parmahansa Yogananda
Oops! Sorry I meant to only revert only the commonwealth english edits but it seems it might have reverted all of your edits. Is there anything I can do to help? The English should be the English we use in the United States because that is how this page began and he lived in the US from 1920 until his death in 1952 and he had become a citizen.Red Rose 13 (talk) 13:51, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Red Rose 13: The article mentions he is an Indian throughout with no mention of him being an US citizen. If a person dies somewhere has nothing to do with it. Besides the article already had Commonwealth spelling template added "EngvarB" before I applied the script. Besides you have removed Date Formats + A lot of automated stuff updated through citation bot. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:01, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- Yes I am so sorry for reversing the other edits. My mistake... I feel badly about that. I will add in the information that he was a citizen of the United States with documentation hopefully it will be allowed to stay. The spelling template should be changed to the one for the United States. Is there anything I can do help put back your other edits?Red Rose 13 (talk) 14:06, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Red Rose 13: I've already done that. No need to worry. As for the subject being a US citizen, provide sources, after which we can have a discussion in the talk page (with other editors) whether to change the lead from Indian to "American" or "Indian-American", etc. If the consensus is to change it to American, I'll make the necessary changes in spelling, etc. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:15, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- Since the article had this
...was an Indian yogi..
and already had the {{EngvarB}} (for Commonwealth English) from atleast 2014, it would be better to maintain the Status Quo and discuss this first. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:21, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
