New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
[edit]Hello GMH Melbourne,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Disambiguation link notification for January 7
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Minister for Agriculture (Victoria), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Richard Richardson. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:01, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

Question about recreating articles
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Hello I have an enquiry about the best avenue for discussion for the reimplementation of a page previously deleted in an AfD. I am seeking a new discussion on the page, therefore I believe that a deletion review is not appropriate.
There is currently a discussion on the talk page of the article in question but I am unsure if this is the best location for the discussion to take place. If it is the case that the talk page is the best location, is there a noticeboard anywhere to advertise the discussion? - GMH Melbourne (talk) 03:29, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Alternatives would be a deletion review or to simply create the draft and have it pass review. The prior deletion may be a bit of headwind for getting the draft accepted, but if the draft is actually good, it would be accepted. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:46, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
Prefer Wikilinks over URL links
[edit]If you precede the 'Category' namespace with a colon, you get a link to the category listing, but it doesn't place the page in the category. So
[[:Category:Wikipedians looking for help]]
yields Category:Wikipedians looking for help
Similarly you could use
[[Special:PrefixIndex/User:GA_Melbourne]]
for subpages of your user page.
Somewhere in the pile of guidelines, there's a recommendation saying that Wikilinks are much preferred over external links back into Wikipedia. I don't know all of the justifications for this, but it's ever so slightly tidier.
Why did I notice this? Because you briefly added your quick links page to the category, which raised an alert that I saw. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:16, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Jmcgnh: ahaha, thank you very much. - GMH Melbourne (talk) 06:23, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
Welcome!
[edit]Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Files for upload pages.
A few tips that you might find helpful:
- Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
- The reviewers' talk page is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
- Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
- You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
- Several of our members monitor Wikipedia's help IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
- The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for creation namespace.
- The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.
Once again, welcome to the project. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 17:46, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

- Appreciate it, didn't notice (or forgot) that clause :). (BTW: Ping didn't work, see Help:Notifications.) Hopefully my tone here is right, but I just wanted to stop by and share a concern I have. You're free to ignore it, but I'd like to hear what you think. I'm not being accusatory - hopefully I come across the way I intend. If the purpose of AFC is to accept articles that are likely to survive a deletion request, which is not based on the state of an article but notability, declining a notable stub for length seems at odds with that. There is no policy against the creation of stubs in mainspace, so declining a draft because it is a stub seems to go around our accepted practice. (Which isn't your fault, but the result is not compatible with our acceptance of stubs as articles generally.) It's also an inconsistent result; your acceptance of Richard Pacheco (politician) is of comparable length to Draft:Jesse Dungee, and they rely on the same notability claim (WP:NPOL). Do you see what I mean? It's not consistent to accept only one of Pacheco or Dungee; there may be other reasons to decline one or the other, but that's something separate. (You didn't say this, but thought I'd mention since it's the only difference I see between them: There's no requirement that stubs have sections, like Pacheco does; MOS:NOLEAD is the explanation.) FloridaArmy is no stranger to declines, so this isn't a big deal - they'll resubmit and it'll eventually get accepted by someone else. I think your request for the AFC permissions displayed a thoughtful approach which considered the feelings of AFC submitters, and I'd just like to mention that consistency might be part of our atmosphere, too. But I might be wrong. Happy to hear what you think? Urve (talk) 19:03, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Urve, thank you for your message, in retrospect the article probably should of been accepted for the reason you mentioned, that it is likely the article would of survived the deletion process. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will use it as an opportunity to learn. I have since accepted the article. - GMH Melbourne (talk) 23:37, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Death of Patrick Cronin
[edit]On 14 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Death of Patrick Cronin, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Pat Cronin, a 19-year-old man, died after he was struck just once on his head during a pub fight? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Death of Patrick Cronin. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Death of Patrick Cronin), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

[edit]Thanks for liking my edit on Harry Sheezel. I was actually surprised that no-one else added his round 1 effort to the page. Nice to meet you. I see you do AFC reviews. I just created a new page Matthew Belloni and am waiting for it to be reviewed. I didn't do it through AFC. Do you mind taking a look at it and reviewing it? License tagging for File:Portrait of Jan Louise Murray Wade.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Portrait of Jan Louise Murray Wade.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 10:30, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Portrait of Jan Louise Murray Wade.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Portrait of Jan Louise Murray Wade.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi GMH Melbourne. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 01:25, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Faulty AfC accept
[edit]Hey, you should not accept articles on the Arab-Israeli conflict and other topics covered by relevant sanctions regimes (see WP:GS for a comprehensive list; look for entries with "Extended-confirmed restriction") when submitted by non-ECP editors unless you have checked every line of the page and are willing to stand by it as your own editing or if ECP editors have substantially rewritten the article. While there may well have been a notable Irgun operation in Iraq (not that this is clear from the sources cited in the article), the article as written made WP:EXTRAORDINARY claims without the sources to back them up, and Irgun Operation is definitely not the correct title for it (Irgun being an organization that existed for nearly two decades and carried out many operations). signed, Rosguill talk 04:39, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- @RosguillSorry about that, I will look into it and hopefully avoid the mistake in future. ––– GMH MELBOURNE TALK 04:42, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Victorian Ministers for Public Works
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Victorian Ministers for Public Works indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
[edit]Hello GMH Melbourne,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

How many final warnings do you plan to give to this vandal before you report to AIV, only to notice that this vandal has already been reported? RecycledPixels (talk) 09:24, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @RecycledPixels: Sorry about that, I'm doing it through red warn while monitoring recent edits and didn't realise its the same user. Won't happen again. sorry. ––– GMH MELBOURNE TALK 09:27, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- That doesn't sound like a very useful tool if it prompts you to make mistakes like that. RecycledPixels (talk) 09:30, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @RecycledPixels: I think it was because the heading "September 2023" was removed and the program didn't pick up the previous warnings. ––– GMH MELBOURNE TALK 09:31, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Yet somehow it knew to issue a level 4 warning. The previous warnings were issued by me, by hand, and I didn't bother with month/year headings because it was clearly a throwaway vandal account that wouldn't last more than an hour or two. Whatever red warn is, it looks like a defective tool to me, and I would advise against using it, because those edits are signed by you, and it makes you look bad. Help - Interacting with editor who is editing his own page

I came across some edits that were unsourced while I was doing anti-vandalism patrolling and reverted them. They have since been reinstated by the editor and he has said on his talk page: "I am Alex Tan himself. The previous version you have is defamatory." and " the older version you have reverted to did not have a reliable source either and there are a lot of baseless accusations. It is alright you reject my edits but can you explain your version?"
[ the older version you have reverted to did not have a reliable source either and there are a lot of baseless accusations. It is alright you reject my edits but can you explain your version?

Seeing he is claiming defamation, I am curious on how to proceed. ––– GMH MELBOURNE TALK 04:48, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- You will need to open a discussion on Talk:Alex Tan to try to come to consensus on how the article should read. That would be true whether or not there were claims by the other editor to be the subject of the article.
- Self-interested editing can be a reason for an account to be blocked, but you would need to point out the problem on an administrative noticeboard. Describing something as defamatory falls short of being a legal threat, but if there is a threat made, it would likely be grounds for a block.
- One possibility is to remove all material that is not substantiated by a reliable source. But an intro paragraph can be implicitly sourced by material further down in the body text of the article, so a conclusion of "unsourced" may need to take that into account - it's not simply a matter of there being no citation attached. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 05:25, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- F off your threat to block. Just block and I will come haunt this wiki page with new accounts.
- None of you admin give a f about the accuracy of the biography and you are just outright supporting the Singapore dictatorship. 5staravenger (talk) 04:34, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted
[edit]Hi GMH Melbourne. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Anarchyte (talk) 09:42, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter
[edit]Hello GMH Melbourne,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Draft: Daniel Connell (comedian)
[edit]Hi GMH Melbourne, thanks for your comment on the draft page for Draft:Daniel Connell (comedian). Please see your comment below as well as my response to your comment. I hope this helps.
- Comment: Requires more sources that meet WP:GNG to establish notability. Articles from ABC and Canberra Times are good but unfortunately as they are interview formatted, aren't totally independent of the subject. N.B: if you are editing with a conflict of interest, please see WP:COI on how to declare it properly. ––– GMH MELBOURNE TALK 07:39, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Response to comment: In order to establish notability I have added non-interview formatted sources such as reviews by established and independent sources of entertainment reviews (see ref 5,6,7,9,10). I have also added an in-studio TV interview on The Project on Network 10 (see ref 19). I am not editing with a conflict of interest.

Autopatrolled granted
[edit]Hi GMH Melbourne, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.
Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 13:35, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

MEJA Expansion Act of 2007
[edit]Hi, I edited t law that you cited because it's the expansion act and not the orignal MEJA passed in 2000 (which is what you are citing to) that what enabled the DoJ to prosecute the Blackwater contractors involved in the Nissour Square Massacre. I'm not a lawyer yet, just a 3rd year law student, but I do write for the #2 corporate law journal in the U.S. and I do a lot of legal research. The expansion act that passed in 2007 closed the loophole that exluded the state departments security details contracted under WSP. Prior to the extension MEJA only applied to DoD and not DoS contractors. Look to the legislative history of the act and floor statments by sponsoring legislators. I wanted to respectfully let you know that this is actually the only time I have ever edited wikipedia. I am not trying to undermine or disrespect you in any way, it's just as a veteran this topic is personally very important to me, especially since I would like to advocate for progressive legislation in the U.S. to hold PMCs like blackwater liable in civil court. I think we probably want most of the same things, so please consider double checking this before changing it back.

October 2023
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Results of the 2023 Australian Indigenous Voice referendum. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:38, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, GMH Melbourne,
- It is very bad form to move an existing article to Draft space and then cut and paste content back into main space in an article you created. I'm considering deleting your article and moving the draft article back or finding a way to merge the two. Please do not ever do this again, it's inconsiderate to other editors who worked on the original article. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:40, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Liz: Yes, I apologise for any inconvenience I have created, there was an article created over the draft which essentially contained no content (just empty section titles) and I was simply trying to swap the two as the draft actually contained the info the page displays now ––– GMH MELBOURNE 06:44, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

AFC for Draft:Simon John Costa
[edit]Please note that according to WP:ANYBIO he meets the notability guidelines, due to having won several awards and he is also in the Australia's Who is Who dictionary. You can also check the online version and search it here. In addition, he is Officer of the Order of Australia. See pic here. Could you please have another look? Grdude (talk) 08:41, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Grdude: Unfortunately, having an AO doesn't establish notability. The 'Who's Who' dictionary entry is one that I'd describe as a passing mention, rather than that of an entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography which would undoubtably establish notability. All of this however, is just my opinion, I'll leave the draft for another reviewer who may have a different opinion to mine. In the meantime, I strongly recommend adding additional sources from news outlets that follow Wikipedia's WP:GNG criteria (if they exist). This will ensure the best chance of the article being accepted. ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 09:09, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- @GMH Melbourne I appreciate your feedback and quick response. Who's Who Dictionary is one of Australia's top dictionaries and a listing there means you have to be super notable. Also, I have gone ahead and add more citations and with existing citations, these ones should satisfy GNG:
- - New CEO for Costa Group | Article | Fruitnet
- - https://ilglobo.com/en/news/simon-costa-how-one-man-has-changed-the-lives-of-millions-42149/
- - https://www.bluearth.org/new-chairman-simon-costa-ao-takes-on-the-physical-activity-crisis-amongst-aussie-kids/
- - https://lucasgroup.com.au/from-australia-to-africa-simon-costa-awarded-for-services-to-african-agriculture/
- In addition, I have added several more awards and nominations, so per WP:ANYBIO, he should qualify:
- 2006 - Australian Agribusiness Leader of the Year.
- 2006 - Australian Agribusiness Employer of Choice Award.
- 2008 - Australian Family Business of the Year.
- 2009 - Australia's Leading Transport and Logistics provider.
- 2015 - United Nations WFP Global Innovation Challenge Award for the Most Impactful Humanitarian Innovation
- 2016 - Pride of Australia Medal
- 2016 - Assumption College Kilmore Hall of Excellence
- 2018 - United Nations WFP Innovation Challenge Award.
- 2018 - Australian of the Year nominee.
- 2019 - Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to business and humanity
- 2020 - the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to United Nations WFP for its efforts to combat hunger. Costa’s work with WFP between 2012–2018 to reduce post-harvest food losses and increase resilience and sustainability within communities was recognized as a decisive contribution to increasing food security and improving prospects for stability and peace.
- I wouldn't think that Australian of the Year nominee and Officer of the Order of Australia should be denied an entry in a Wikipedia. These by definition are awards and nominations that satisfy WP:ANYBIO
- The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times; or
- The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in a specific field; or
- The person has an entry in a country's standard national biographical dictionary (e.g. the Dictionary of National Biography).
- In my opinion, he meets all these 3 criteria, but only one is needed to satisfy it. Grdude (talk) 18:02, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Grdude: In my opinion, the Who's Who dictionary isn't biographical, rather it is a passing mention of sorts, therefore it doesn't really count towards the third criterion. An AO probably borderlines a
a well-known and significant award or honor
unlike an AC or Australian of the Year Award, so again i can really use that to satisfy the first criterion. That being said however, with the addition of the Il Globo article, and if you also add this source from the ABC the article should establish notability via WP:GNG. I'd also go over the article again to smooth over anything that may come across as not being neutral considering you have disclosed paid editing on the topic. Let when know when this has been done, and upon completion, I'd be happy to accept the article. ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 22:40, 27 October 2023 (UTC) - Also, from the awards section, remove entries that were won by the Costa Group instead of Simon Costa. ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 22:50, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

- @Ellylee11: That goes against wikipedia's Manual of Style I suggest including the link as an inline citation and then linking the website in the 'External links' section of the article. ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 23:32, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- I've fixed that text on that page so Ellylee11's edits are kept instead of being blanket-reverted for not using inline citation for referencing. OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:20, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

- Thank you for your reply. I intended to include the information as an external link rather than an inline citation. The existing external link stems from the same website I cited and states each individual decision made during the conference, however, what I wish to include is a comprehensive breakdown of the 23 targets. It includes deeper information about why these targets are important, what indicators will be used to measure progress, and I further believe this link to be organized through a more accessible manner. Thanks GMH Melbourne for your feedback Do you suggest the tone needs to be altered at this stage? Thanks Virgobeach Virgobeach (talk) 06:32, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Virgobeach: I meant more so that there is content in the article that is trivial and comes across as promotional. For example–
- phrases like
which continue to provide excellent medical advice and therapies to the people
do not come across as neutral - Unsourced, trivial information like:
During this period he was introduced to Bushwalking and Snow Skiing which would both feature later in his life.
- The phrase
he was instrumental
goes against WP:Peacock
- phrases like
- It is often helpful to find a good quality article of another person that is on wikipedia and follow the same tone. I have marked the article as under review, I suggest going over the entire article and making sure this issue is fixed and the article should then be ready to be published.
- As it is a biography of a living person try to end each paragraph with a inline citation for verification purposes. Also if you know the subject of the article in perosn, be sure to disclose a Conflict of Interest per wikipedia policy. ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 06:58, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks very much GMH_Melbourne
- yes I see what you mean. I just tried to alter it but the draft was noted to be "under review" and the text advised NOT to edit it. But when I look at the history (as suggested) it links back to you.
- Is it ok to make changes despite that?
- Virgobeach Virgobeach (talk) 09:32, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Virgobeach: Yes, I unmarked it as under review ––– GMH Melbourne (talk) 10:44, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

- HI GMH I think you moved this page into (or set it as) my own "user page" as well somehow. When I try to delete it from there it also deletes the actual article from wiki
- How can I fix this please?

Your GA nomination of Death of Patrick Cronin
[edit]The article Death of Patrick Cronin you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Death of Patrick Cronin for comments about the article, and Talk:Death of Patrick Cronin/GA2 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility.
