Hi, I've added references for all the sections, but couldn't find a specific reference for the hook, other than the fact that it had been selected under the initiative "Land der Ideen" in 2006, the year Germany hosted the World Cup. That's covered by the section reference. --Bermicourt (talk) 19:32, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I've added a section on the awards and prizes for the Otter Centre and its Otter Conservation Project with the reference at the end (it applies to all the text apart from the World Cup sentence). Perhaps the hook could be something like: "Did you know that the Hankensbüttel Otter Centre has won many prestigious national and international awards and prizes including First Prize in the "Regions of the Future" competition run by the German Ministry of Transport..." or something similar. --Bermicourt (talk) 07:33, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

You broke the internetz! :P

The entire special occasion holding area is gone. I didn't revert, so that you can fix it yourself. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 14:25, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Never mind, I fixed it myself :) ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 14:35, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I did see your message, I just wanted to get the update done before I fixed it :) Gatoclass (talk) 14:36, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Actually, Gato broke the internetz twice :) The {{user0}} tags in {{DYKbotdo}} don't show up properly because the bot searches for }} as the end of the DYKbotdo template (an example). It's best to subst the user0 template if you use it in DYKbotdo. Shubinator (talk) 01:25, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Heck I've been meaning to check that that was working properly, sorry. How do I go about subst'ing instead? Gatoclass (talk) 04:05, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
No worries. {{DYKbotdo|{{subst:User0|Editor}} }} should work. Shubinator (talk) 05:25, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll give that a go next time, thanks :) Gatoclass (talk) 06:05, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

I was late, in nominating the article, can you check? --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:51, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

DYK response

Hey Gatoclass, I hope you are doing well. :) I responded to your comment about my DYK submission under October 16. Cheers, Cirt (talk) 08:39, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! :) Cirt (talk) 17:23, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for accepting my DYK

Thanks for OK-ing the DYK for The Heartland Series. I figured it was a new article, for all intents and purposes. FWIW, the "blog" source for the ALT hook was a professional reporter's blog on his newspaper's website -- now that papers have so few print pages, I think we'll be seeing a lot more of that kind of publication. --Orlady (talk) 15:14, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

DYKBot update cycle problems

Hi there Gatoclass. You changed the update cycle to 8 hours but the bot still believes that its on a 6-hour cycle and posted a warning to WP:AN to that effect. Also, the template also warns that the update is overdue. Can you fix this? Regards SoWhy 09:04, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

No I can't fix it because I don't know how. Shubinator and Rjanag have some programming skills in this area, your suggestion would be better directed to one of them I think. Gatoclass (talk) 12:17, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

DYK talk page stuff

At Beck v. Eiland-Hall and Marc Randazza - I merged the DYK notice in with the {{ArticleHistory}} on the talk page. :) Cheers, Cirt (talk) 15:05, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

No wonder I couldn't find it! At least now I know the bot worked properly. Thanks for letting me know :) Gatoclass (talk) 15:43, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Missing DYK

HI! Gatoclass

I posted two DYK hooks on 21st October 2009, namely St. Paul’s Church, Diu and Diu Fort. But both are missing from the discussion page. I don't know the reason for this. I could not also see from the History why they were deleted. Can you throw some light on this?--Nvvchar (talk) 13:19, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

I saw your observations under History that it was posted under wrong header. Can I repost it now with Header 4 or Header 2?--Nvvchar (talk) 13:30, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
I think Gatoclass encountered an edit conflict when moving a comment he had put under the wrong header - nothing to do with your submissions, Nvvchar. This is the edit in question. I've added back your submissions, removed the hooks that had been selected for queue 5 that were accidentally re-added, and am in the process of restoring the other comments (from himself and others) that G managed to mangle. Regards to you both, BencherliteTalk 13:42, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Done; G had in fact already added back most of his changes in later edits. BencherliteTalk 13:45, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing that Bench. Yes, somehow I managed to undo half a dozen of my own edits, I still have no idea how that happened, I thought I'd repaired the damage but I guess I didn't find all of it. Gatoclass (talk) 14:14, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

You have been whacked with a wet trout by BencherliteTalk because of your ham-fisted attempt to sabotage DYK from the inside! Hopefully this will make a subtle adjustment to your clue level.

Ouch! I should also add, my apologies for putting you to all that trouble - I guess I must have edited an old version of the page without realizing it, although how exactly I managed to do that I still haven't quite figured out. Gatoclass (talk) 14:27, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
No problem, easily done when there's an edit conflict and you hit the "back" button in your browser. BencherliteTalk 14:37, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
I suppose it was a minor glitch. All is well that ends well. Thanks for restoring my two DYK hooks. I appreciate the prompt action--Nvvchar (talk) 15:12, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Current DYK queue

Hello Gatoclass. I put together the queue that is currently on the main page. I attempted to follow the suggestions that 50% of the Queue related to U.S topics. I placed 4 U.S., with 3 outside of the U.S. and one with a Picture that would not pertain to a perticular country. I also tried to select different Bios - political/sports, events - earthquake, subjects -animal, and film. I also attempted to pull as many as possible from the older nominations 10th - 16th. If you could kindly suggest how I can better my contributions I would be appreciative. Thanks in advance. B.s.n. R.N. 05:20, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

My edit summary was in error :) I just did a quick scan at the time and had the impression there were about six US hooks in the update, but actually you had 4 US + 4 other, which is a good balance. I realized immediately upon posting that my edit summary was in error, but unfortunately one can't go back and re-do an edit summary. So please accept my apologies instead. And by all means keep up the good work! Gatoclass (talk) 05:32, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Not a problem. I've had that happen too :) Thank you for your swift reply and kind words. Have a great night B.s.n. R.N. 06:05, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

DYK for USAT McClellan (138/3 DYKs)

Updated DYK query On November 1, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article USAT McClellan, which you created or substantially expanded. Tulsi Vivah was scheduled for 30 Oct, made it in the 1 Nov prep area so I requested it be put in 2 Nov queue as 2 Nov is Kartik Poornima - the last day to perform Tulsi Vivah. Kartik Poornima, Prabodhini Ekadashi DYK were combined and requested for 2 Nov. Please check.--Redtigerxyz Talk 16:11, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry but I had to revert your edit

[1]

You deleted countless sourced facts with this edit. That´s the main reason I reverted your edit.

  • Moreover: You extended the section about Alice Miller. Alice Miller has very little to do with PT. Please add that material at Alice Miller.
  • Moreover: You introduced unsourced block of text: Primal therapy achieved a high public profile in its early years, to the extent that the very phrase "primal scream" became part of the English-speaking world's cultural lexicon...In spite of her misgivings about certain aspects of primal therapy, Miller remains a strong proponent of the trauma-based psychotherapeutic model and believes that reliving and releasing such traumas is the only effective method of healing for victims of child abuse

  • Moreover, it is a extremely complex edit. May I ask you to please make simpler "step-by-step" edits?. Thank you Randroide (talk) 16:38, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Polanski

Hi, regarding your comment earlier regarding the npov template, I was wondering would you have another look at that as the section was trimmed as there is a main article link where all the details are explained, we will never please everyone but, what we have left now has been written by a neutral editor and is designed to be a simple overview of the details, which I would say it is, under these realities could you accept the removal of the npov template? Off2riorob (talk) 23:52, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

  • FYI: I placed, and still support the tag (while we correct for the exclusion of Polanski/defense perspective) ... and am now beginning a sentence-by-sentence NPOV analysis. A sentenced-numbered version (in collapsed green box) is in this subtopic of the NPOV dispute. Proofreader77 (talk) 04:28, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Your opinion on current NPOV of case summary

Although attempting to keep a POV tag on the Sexual assualt case section is apparently an exercise in futility, I would still like to ask (since you once voted to keep the POV tag) if you feel the current summary is NPOV? (Feel free to ignore—especially since I'm in the dog house at the moment:) Proofreader77 (talk) 04:56, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I left a fuzzy response on my talk. Tag is off again, and "consensus" is a strange animal in this case given the complexity of BLP NPOV on this. Proofreader77 (talk) 05:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

NPOV: The Sharon Tate murder section now gone

(Buried in Personal life and no link to main coverage now). See: this new talk topic. (Please excuse if you're not interested in that, but since you cared about the Sexual assault section, letting you know.) -- Proofreader77 (talk) 02:41, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Young-Chang Cho

Thank you for promoting Young-Chang Cho to DYK in spite of my formal error, for your improved wording and for choosing the educational hook, not the "prize-winning" one. ArbEnf comment

Hello, Gato. I think that your comments about Jayjg in the Pedrito section are a bit ambiguous. The way the discussion was closed was that there was no finding of any fault, but that Jay should continue to take care in the future. The way you wrote it implied that there was some fault, but only a warning was applied. Those two are different, obviously. May I please trouble you to accurately reflect the findings? The last thing anyone, me, you, Pedrito, Jay, Nableezy, etc. need when it relates to ArbCom issues is unintentional misrepresentations. Thank you very much. -- Avi (talk) 23:19, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

I had to update manually last time. Tried to reset both timers (6 hrs ago, and now), several times. Doesn't help. Any advice? If not, lets decide - I can update manually just fine. Materialscientist (talk) 10:53, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Don't think so. In the past, resetting the timer helped. 6 hrs ago, the bot just missed the update, even though the queue was ready. Maybe there is some sequence for timers, maybe Chamal knows, or maybe nobody knows. Materialscientist (talk) 10:57, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
I've posted at DYK a note on bot problems and will be offline shortly. I have just enough time to prepare the next update (then off-line). I suggest we decide now who will prepare the next set. No kidding, arranging is tricky, but nobody is perfect, and thus I take it easy :-) Materialscientist (talk) 11:29, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Unable to resist bacon's temptations, rogue editors have kicked off the Bacon Challenge 2010 before the New Year even starts! This is a fun and collegial event and all are welcome. There are many non-pork articles for editors who enjoy some sizzle, but object to or don't like messing with pig products. This year's event also includes a Bacon WikiCup 2010 for those who may want to keep score and enjoy engaging in friendly competition. Given the critical importance of this subject matter, I know you will want to participate, so remember to sign up today and get started A.S.A.P. ALL ARE WELCOME!!! The more the merrier. Notability of buildings

Hmm. Buildings, of course, can gain notability for reasons other than a heritage listing. The usual two-sources rule applies, but things that help are:

  • designed by a notable architect
  • skyscraper
  • some important function like city hall
  • contributing property to historic district not otherwise listed

Some non-NRHP building articles I've either created or worked on significantly for which all or some apply:

reverting my edits

You reverted my edits on List of battles and other violent events by death toll. Take a look at List of battles by casualties, deleting the unsourced material pays off because the article will be rebuilt with sourced material rather quickly. Wandalstouring (talk) 12:25, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

I put the reference tag on the article and waited for over a year for something to happen. You violate policy if you restore that unsourced mess. And you need to wait about a month for the progress because the first weeks will be battle. Wandalstouring (talk) 12:33, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I think this discussion would be better continued at the article talk page. Gatoclass (talk) 12:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

consensus

I'm a bit confused by your characterization as to "there seems to be a solid consensus that the charges were not demonstrated". Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 09:16, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

That wasn't intended as some sort of definitive statement. My point was really just that I don't think it fair to close the RfC with a simple "inactivity" statement when most contributors rejected most of the charges. Gatoclass (talk) 09:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't believe that, objectively, "there seems to be a solid consensus that the charges were not demonstrated".
Nor do I believe that, objectively--even recognizing that it is not a vote--it is true to say that "most contributors" "rejected" "most of the charges".
I'm puzzled as to how you could see it that way, and characterize it that way. I, in contrast, see it the way the arbitrators saw it.
In fact, if you leave out the votes of those who hang out at DYK, the overwhelming consensus is in the opposite direction. As are the facts.--Epeefleche (talk) 09:55, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
AFAIK, none of the arbitrators participated in the RfC, and it's how to summarize the RfC that is the issue here. And I already stated that my throwaway comment in the motion to close is not intended as in any way definitive. At this point I am waiting for some input from a more experienced admin on how to go about closing the RfC, and until that occurs, there doesn't seem much point in trying to debate the finer details. Gatoclass (talk) 10:13, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Right. What I was trying to communicate was that the comments at the RfC are, IMHO, at odds with your description. If you were not seeking to characterize it with a definitive statement, which IMHO is at odds with the facts, you may wish to redact your throwaway statement. To me it was troubling, as a mischaracterization. And, for reasons that escape me this process has been replete with mischaracterizations and Nelson's eye from certain editors. I expect that, under the circumstances, you may appreciate my concern as to the larger picture. I'm sure of course that was not your intent.
As to the arbitrators, yes--they suggested at the step prior to the RfC their view of the facts -- the same facts being reviewed at the RfD. They suggested that before they take action, however, it would be best to see if the RfC process might address the behavior problems they noted. Your comment, if accurate, would suggest that it has not done so. It was that expression by them of their view of the same facts--which of course is starkly at odds with your throwaway comment--that I was referring to.--Epeefleche (talk) 10:21, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, I disagree with a number of those assertions. But since you feel my comment at the motion to close is a mischaracterization, I will see if I can find the time to make a more definitive statement in order to clarify my position. Gatoclass (talk) 10:42, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Much appreciated.--Epeefleche (talk) 10:45, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I added a clarifying statement. Gatoclass (talk) 11:16, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. The Black Kite comment is of course at odds with the dozens of diffs provided. When in response to his comment it was made clear that there were dozens of diffs, the response was one of Nelson's eye. Do you really think its acceptable for an admin to tell a user -- let alone more than one -- to go fuck yourself? I believe that most commentators, including most arbitrators at that rfa, didn't think so.--Epeefleche (talk) 12:25, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, perhaps it was a case of "Nelson's eye", as you put it. However, it still got the endorsement of a dozen users, whereas your characterization got only three not including yourself. You may feel that was an unfair outcome, but perhaps you ought to consider that some users may prefer to look beyond an occasional slip-up at the sum total of a user's contributions before making a judgement.
As for telling people to go fuck themselves - obviously it's uncivil, and at the very least therefore a technical breach of policy. But again, some of us prefer to look beyond the immediate diff to the circumstances in which it occurred. I'm not sure in what circumstances this particular breach occurred, so I'm not about to make a judgement, but obviously it's far from an ideal response and hardly the sort of thing we want to encourage.
