License tagging for Image:Swans wardown.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Swans wardown.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:10, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Duplicate articles

Hi, thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. If you accidentally create an article with a misspelled title, like Sir Malcolm Stewert, please don't create a second article to fix it. Instead, you can use the "move" tab at the top of the page to rename the article. You might also want to review Wikipedia:Naming conventions for help in choosing appropriate titles before you start. --Russ (talk) 20:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Short articles

Hi! Short articles are certainly welcome, but they have to be more than "x is a place in z." You can, however, create redirects for the time being. Simply type #REDIRECT [[name of article]] where, of course, you'd substitute the name of the destination article. Hope this helps; have fun! - Lucky 6.9 19:24, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

OS Grid Refs

To find the OS map ref visit http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap/frames.htm and type in the name, the ref will be at the bottom of the page.

The easiest way to get the coordinates is to download and run Google Earth, then type in a town or village name. When it goes there move your mouse out of the map view, the coordinates will be in the bottom left hand corner. Lcarsdata (Talk) 15:28, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I didn't read the article in detail yet, so I can't attest to its accuracy, but you certainly did a good job at choosing your topic. I did a few minor edits at the end. Remember that external links have single brackets and that the header "External links" does not need a capital L. Other than that, it seems you've done a good job of it. Keep it up! :) - Mgm|(talk) 11:07, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? was updated. On 17 November, 2006, a fact from the article Luton Town Hall, which you recently nominated, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Milton Keynes - prior history

Please resist knee-jerk edits. Yes, we know that MK doesn't have a City Charter yet - the article makes that clear. If you actually read the history, you will see that MK was designed from the outset to be a city, not a town - so in that context it is perfectly sensible to use the term 'new city', because that is how it was introduced to the local people at the time. --Concrete Cowboy 18:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

blah blah city propoganda again. I didnt change random city to town, this part of the the article talks about the area that became the new city. As it isnt a city then nothing became a new city. The area became a new town. that is a fact. I know MK likes to call itself a city as it sounds better, and the article does make that clear, however in my view this particular line is wrong to use the word city as the area never became a city, new or otherwise. Anyway if you prefer to live in a cityworld then fine.GazMan7 08:46, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Not so. This part of the article is a historical reference, using the terminology of the time. --Concrete Cowboy 13:19, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
well im afraid we will have to agree to disagree. Im not going to argue over it. The arguments have been done to death in many places and on here before. I still feel the use of the word city is misleading, and to be honest quite confusing in the article. However i do not want to get into a big argument over it and will not revert the change from city back to town again. Maybe MK will get true city status before too long and it wont matter anyway!!! :-)GazMan7 15:05, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
In the end I partly came round to your POV and changed it to something more neutral, avoiding the provocative C word. --Concrete Cowboy 18:00, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of other editors contributions to a talk page

It is not acceptable to delete good faith contributions to a talk page as you did at talk:University of Bedfordshire. You can delete blatant vandalism or libel, but this was neither. Worse still, it was contributed by a named editor, not a random IP. --Concrete Cowboy 18:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

however it doesnt actually mean anything. and to be honest you say its not liable, but clearly it is insulting, and doesnt actually mean anything. or does it to you?GazMan7 08:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

No, it reads like a meaningless rant to me too, which you would be absolutely right to delete if it appeared in the main article. Or even from the talk page if it was some IP. But not when it is a registered editor who isn't blocked for vandalism. --Concrete Cowboy 13:23, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Round Green and CNS

Hi, Could you do me a favour and sort out these articles, Round Green and Cardinal Newman Catholic High School (Luton). these articles are a bit of a mess at the moment and as you seem to be doing a load of sorting out of anything to do with Luton, i thought you may be able to improve and give photos maybe to the articles. Thanks a lot. Random articles 22:31, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Postcodes and Warden Hills

i've noticed while adding infoboxes to luton articles that postcodes are usually wrong or difficult to get hold of. i've only ever known where LU2 and LU3 is as i know the areas well, but do you now what postcodes belong to the other areas area as the article is no good whatsoever. Probably needs an update.

Also,Warden Hills, and while i mention it, New Town, Luton as well, i can't get the population figures for these areas. the Ntnl Stats website classifies Warden hills as bramingham and doesn't know where new town is. I've done all i can for the moment, so could you have a look at this. I'll try and update the postcodes,:-p. Thanks Random articles 16:09, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

How about you being a little more honest? When you and your mates see things that you do not like you ask for 'proof' of statements made, when that is provided, you get upset and vandalise the page!

Lets have some fair play!

Please sign your comments. The mates you refer to i assume are other users of Wiki, none of whome are known to me personally. A decision was reached to delete the non-encylopedic stuiff from the University of Bedfordshire site for several reasons. please see the talk page. Reverting and deleting contibutions since and items such as student numbers is vandalism. If you want to create a balanced section about the Uni then do so.GazMan7 13:48, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I suggest that you ask for an administrative level 1 lock on the article - "restrict edits to registered users only". The IP is changing, they are dynamically allocated Demon Internet IPs. We can't call for all of Demon to be banned from editing all articles. We need to explain the WP "Wikipedia is not a soapbox" and can't do that to a moving target - if the vandal gets an IP, there is an opportunity for discussion. I can see that there is a basis for some critical material, but it has to be civilised. --Concrete Cowboy 17:33, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

University of Bedford

Hi,

i notice you are now much more involved with sorting out vandalism etc. Please could you keep an eye on the University of Bedfordshire page as a couple of unregistered users keep reverting the page.

many thanksGazMan7 09:28, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Lcarsdata 10:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Returning The Message

Thanks for the message! I would be happy to work with you on exanding luton articles as yes, i am from luton and i do know a lot about certain areas. I will have a look a Leagrave, though i don't know if i can add anything more specific. Cardinal Newman i will have a good go at as i know the school well. Round Green is a tricky one as the book i used was published only locally, probably from wardown museum or something, so there isn'i a ISBN number on it. I will also try to update some of the info boxes as Postcodes and population etc figures i don't think are entirely right. talk to me on my talk page about anything different to above. Thanks, Random articles 12:58, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Barnfield

Hi Gazman7! I was browsing through the luton articles when i came to barnfield and found it redirected to barnfield college. This is no good as there is a ward in luton called Barnfield, but no article. I can start the article, but i thought i'd clear this with you first incase you did this on purpose. Saints and Bushmead need to be done, but i know very little on either. South and Northwell also need doing, but they're not on the list. Is this for a specific reason or haven't we got around to that yet? I can start them all off, i suppose, but don't know enough to make them any better than stubs. Talk to me on my talk page, thanks again, Random articles 20:59, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi thanks for the message, see my reply [here]

Ok, right, what i'll do is set up the barnfield page soon, and possibly northwell. Again, i know very little about saints, but i'm sure i can ask around for sources. You can see on the constituency map that south is on there, but i understand that area to be part of farley hill. Mabye we should add a reference into the farley hill article about this ward, or do you think we should set up a seperate article? And finally, what about bushmead? i know barely enough on the place just to set up a stub, but mabye i should do that and hope we, or someone else, can add to it later. What do you think? Luton Articles

Hello! I've been busy with several articles and i have set up articles for Barnfield, Northwell and South. You will need to add south to the luton template as i don't know how, but a thought has occurred to me. London Luton Airport and the Railway Stations are important parts of luton, yet they aren't mentioned by the template. Mabye we could add a transportation heading and add these onto the template, especially for the airport, as a lot of people will want to know about that. (I suggest the railway stations as well as they link luton to London, and would make the transportaion heading a little bulkier!) What do you think? Random articles 18:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello Again!

These are great ideas, and I'm glad you like the st marys article. However, i've got exams coming up (drat that school!) so i'm going to have to ration myself on wikipedia. By all means, try to add more to st marys, i've done all i can, but luton hoo, that's interesting. See if you can improve that article as well, as then we could stick it on the amenities section.

A transport menu is a great idea, so go ahead and start that, the M1 would be great, but especially the airport. This got luton on the map. Also, finally, i will try and help on anything i can, but i will put up a wikipedia holiday notice, so i don't get worried about messages, etc

By the way, try and have a go at the Luotn carnival article. It is drastically underwhelming the whole event and deserves even to be a featured article. this would be a great way to boost the profile of the event, as well as improve the luton articles. if you don't have much idea, contact them on the luton council site. I'm sure they will be willing to help.

Thanks a Lot, Random articles 14:40, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Continued

Well, thanks for the luck, i will need it. I'm taking my GCSE's at the moment, but there not for another month or so. Revision is top priority, so wiki help is nearly out of the question for the moment. MSN is also out, it's currently playing up on me and i reckon that i need to just start again with it, but as i said, no time. (sigh)

School stuff I will deal with, so don't bother about those just yet. I will set up that page and organise new articles, existing articles, etc. the info boxes are great, just what i was looking for.

About the grouping of luton articles. the best suggestion i have is basically, create the list and just divide it up. this will take long enough I'm sure, but if we want to re-write the luton articles or start linking out of luton articles, we need to group them all together and then start going through, improving and editing where needed, then start linking out. then we can consider re-doing infoboxes or catagories to help clean up.

I personally see nothing too wrong with the luton article. It does need a bit of a rewrite and sorting out in general, but nothing too drastic. it's a lot better than some articles about other places, so it's good, but i see your point.

Also, i was wondering about vauxhall. although it isn't in town anymore, there is no links to or from luton and the company. It was a major part of the town, so this probably needs to be added in the history.

Another wonder. Citations in the main article are rampant and need to be cut down if the article is to be great. I know that these are all true, but we need to prove it from books, internet etc. this could take ages, but it will be worth it.

Finally, Chiltern FM has two frequencies. the one we want is 97.6FM as this is the one based in dunstable. the one in bedford is 96.6FM. you will find the articles if you type in chiltern fm in the search.

Again, thanks for the luck, and i will check in from time to time to see whats happening. meanwhile, good luck on sorting out the articles. I will try to help, but don't rely on me for frequent help.

Thanks, Random articles 17:45, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

I have set up the list of all the schools in luton in Schools in Luton. you will need to link it somewhere before someone decides to delete it. Thanks Random articles 21:04, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

RE:Luton

It still needs work, too many one sentence paragraphs. Regarding references i use the cite template which is <ref name="">{{cite web | title = | author = | publisher = | date = | url = | accessdate = 2007-01-26 }}</ref> All you do is fill out the details, title, author (last name comes first), publisher (website name) etc.

  • <ref name="The Devil's Music">{{cite web | title = The Devil's Music | author = Rohrer , Finlo | publisher = [[BBC News]] | date = 2006-5-28 | url = http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4952646.stm | accessdate = 2006-01-22 }}</ref>[1] will show up as
