Conflict of interest[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Harmony, Florida, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:34, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome![edit]

Hello, GeorgeSchiro, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

The text above is from a canned "welcome" message, but I do welcome you. As you noticed I am aware of your editing due to the Harmony, Florida article, and i will also welcome the other newish editor there. I think you could be a great contributor to Wikipedia. In many content/topic areas and in many wikipedia processes, your attention to detail and your general courtesy, which I appreciate, would serve well. I recommend that you learn by editing in some hobby area, something far away from anything that really matters to you. And you would learn about wikipedia processes gradually, effortlessly mostly, through the interactions. Which you could eventually use to come back to topics of intense personal interest, potentially, I suppose, though it would also be possible for you to simply move on entirely. Most new editors do edit in areas of some familiarity, first. I happen to like historic sites, like places listed on the National Register of Historic Places, because there shouldn't be any controversy about them, is what I originally figured. And it is sort of fun to visit places and take pics and upload them, and help in the big List of RHPs of the U.S. It turns out that there can be controversy about historic sites though, I eventually discovered, although less than if you chose to edit about Palestine or abortion or the Liancourt Rocks(sp?) or other hotspots. Anyhow, welcome to wikipedia! --doncram 18:55, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
