If you are connected to someone or something you have written about (a few examples are writing about yourself, your business, your band, a member of your family) then you should be aware that Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline discourages you from writing about that subject. The main reason for that is that experience over the years indicates that editors with such a connection to a subject they are writing about are likely to find it very difficult, or even impossible, to stand back from their writing and see how it will look from the detached perspective of an outsider, so that they are likely to write in ways that look promotional to others, even if they sincerely think they are writing in a neutral way. Also, if your editing forms all or part of work for which you are paid, whether as an employee, as a contractor, or in any other capacity, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use require you to state who is paying you, and what your connection to them is. Also, please bear in mind that editing for the purpose of promoting, publicising, or advertising anything is not permitted. Hello, Getachew Melaku. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but User:Getachew Melaku/sandbox has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.

Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Users who do so may be blocked from editing. Promotional content is vigorously deleted. Wikipedia:Identifying_blatant_advertising#Typical_signs_of_blatant_advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Dlohcierekim/promo.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources . Template:cite has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there.
