Jeff's user page

I noticed on your user page, you tried to <br/> on a section. Try <br clear=all> instead, if you are trying to get the Articles created section below the userboxes.  The Windler talk  11:57, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Use common names of persons and things

I think you also need to have a read of Wikipedia:Naming_convention, specifically this part. Thanks.--Jeff79 (talk) 13:39, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

The problem I have with common names is that a person can have several of them, e.g. Douglas Clark (rugby league) is randomly known as Doug Clark, Dougie Clark or Duggy Clark, dependant upon which reference is used. Similarly people called William, are invariably called; Will, Bill, or Billy, etc. which is why I’m erring towards using their ‘Sunday’ name.

Best Regards DynamoDegsy

I hope you read the guidelines I directed you toward as it'll save me a lot of typing. I can easily imagine your reasons for using 'Sunday' names but the thing is it just doesn't matter. The reason I moved the Samuel Smith article to Sam Smith is because the two sources that exist for it have him named as Sam Smith. So who are we to go against that? It's called verifiability, the most fundamental tenet of wikipedia and it exists for good reasons. As you use wikipedia more and more, you'll become more familiar with the conventions and guidelines we adhere to. It doesn't happen straight away though so it's ok. I'm pleased with the contributions you've made so far as I too have been making it my business to go about creating articles for British rugby league players of the past. I hope you'll also join in at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby league, where lots of (mostly) worthwhile discussion about improving rugby league players' articles takes place.--Jeff79 (talk) 22:03, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Jeff79. Use the name that most people will type into a Search Box. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 16:31, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Unidentified player

Do you know who the New Zealand player is in this? Thanks,  The Windler talk  05:47, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey is there a reason you keep removing the "winners box" on the 2008 RLWC page? Mattlore (talk) 22:27, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

List of Parramatta Eels players

Hi Jeff, I am sorry that I missed your original message regarding the List of the Parramatta Eels players. I have removed all of the flag icons like you suggested. It was causing a bit of a lag for me as well.

Due to the fact that I am now working 50+ hours a week, I unfortunately do not get to work on Wikipedia as much I have in the past. However, I will try to get this list finished as soon as I can. Cheers -- Ianblair23 (talk) 01:08, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jeff, I was wondering about this page move to a lower case 'N' - have you found a source that supports this because I have always seen both the O and N capitalised (Sean Fagan's stuff for example)? LunarLander // talk // 12:11, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey. Yeah I moved it back initially in response to finding that the links to the team on all the European rugby league championship articles were suddenly redlinks as they use lower case 'n'. Not sure how that happened though. I guess it was moved to capital 'N' in the past but a re-direct wasn't automatically created? (not the case, the links on the championship articles were changed by the industrious but often inexplicable DynamoDegsy). Also in line with the way capitalisation generally works in article titles as per the fourth point here. We use lower case 'n' in Australia national rugby league team for example. As for Sean Fagan's work, I think he (as well as many other authors) uses capitals in 'Rugby League' also, which is something we've rejected at wikipedia in favour of the capitals for proper nouns only convention.--Jeff79 (talk) 16:56, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

CEO in Template:NRL Team Season

Hey Jeff, could there be a CEO field added to Template:NRL Team Season please? I was going to do it myself, because it looks like all it needs is a simple change, but I didn't want to accidentally mess it up. Cheers Mattlore (talk) 04:21, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I was debating whether to have the 'Chairman' field called 'CEO' instead and could have gone either way. I just wasn't sure of the structure of most clubs and what the name of the boss is. I can change it to CEO. Unless you know of a more generic term?--Jeff79 (talk) 07:58, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, I'm not sure what would be the best. I know at the Warriors the CEO has always been the more prominent position, I wouldn't have a clue who is the chairman of the board of directors atm. However I think the chairperson is often more prominent at clubs that haven't been privatised, as the board elections often make the media. Could both be there as options, or would the template not like that? Mattlore (talk) 08:13, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Done deal. CEO or Chairman are both available. It'll be up to editors to decide which one is applicable. It's not my intention for both to be filled.--Jeff79 (talk) 08:25, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Awesome, cheers Mattlore (talk) 08:29, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

State of Origin categories

I noticed you have changed Category:Tasmanian State of Origin players and removed the term State of Origin from the intro. While Tasmanian have played interstate football since the early 20th century, these categories only include players who played in the State of Origin era (1977 - 1999). I've created Category:Australian rules football State of Origin which I believe allows us to properly separate Aussie rules SOO categories from Rugby league ones. Category:State of Origin now gives us two options - Category:Australian rules football State of Origin and Category:Rugby League State of Origin. Both hold articles and player categories. As a result I had nominated Category:State of Origin players and Category:Australian rules State of Origin players for deletion as I see no use for them. Of course Category:State of Origin players could be used to group the Australian rules and rugby league SOO player categories together but I don't see any benefit from combining the two. I will also have Category:New South Wales State of Origin players renamed to reflect that it is a category for the Aussie rules players, something I should have done quite some time ago. Hope that makes sense ... if you have any objections please let me now. Cheers. Jevansen (talk) 01:43, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

No worries!. Jeff79 (talk) 07:54, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame

Hi Jeff, I saw you updated Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame to add the parts I have shown in red here

 •
 •
 •
 •

Unfortunately, this does not do what I believe you were hoping it would do which would be to control the display name in the category. Instead, adding a "|name" to a category link this controls a hidden name that used for sorting the entry in the category. For example, if you look at Category:Rugby league trophies and awards you will see that Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame is sorted under H as you gave it the name Hall of Fame.

This hidden name stuff comes up most often on pages that are in a namespace. For example, if you look at Category:Wikipedia help you will see that something like Wikipedia basic information is listed under B and not W. This is done with the "|name" stuff when adding a child page to the categories. You might also see this in the main namespace. For example, on Wikipedia articles for Rugby players are usually named "First Last" name. If you wanted to add players to a category and to have them sorted by last name then you would add them using .

I'll leave it up do you on if you want to undo your own edit to Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame or if you had some plan in mind that I did not spot. --Marc Kupper|talk 05:01, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

No, that's what I intended. If (similar to your Wikipedia category example) the rugby league categories are within a category that already has 'rugby league' in the name, then it makes little sense for them all to be under 'R'.Jeff79 (talk) 08:58, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks - After the Rugby league trophies and awards fix everything makes sense. Good luck with the rugby pages. --Marc Kupper|talk 08:47, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

""Made Up Names""

Just as no-one would have seriously name their offspring Jeff without adding the 'rey' at the end, Mister and Missus Karalius didn’t name their son Vince they named him Vincent, similarly Mr and Mrs Lewis didn’t name their son Wally, they named him Walter (please note I didn’t create these articles). I’ve taken the advice from a number of Wikipedians, and adjusted the articles I create according, but your attitude is confrontational and smug (e,g, "Grade 2 English: we don't use apostrophes for plurals" and that wasn‘t even targeted at me). If you would like me to add given name references then I will, if only to irk you. In the meantime, can I suggest you divert you energies and cast your oh-so critical eye over these articles as they are desperately in need of improvement.DynamoDegsy (talk) 20:37, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Yeah you didn't even make it past the first sentence mate ([1], [2], [3], [4]).--Jeff79 (talk) 08:36, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh dear, #1 Jeff Garcia's name is actually Jeffrey. #2 None of these people actually play rugby league. #3 Never trust anyone who quotes themselves... in his words: "quite obviously the greatest sport ever invented". #4 Never take anyone seriously, anyone who states their qualifications on a business card, let alone their Wikipedia user page. #5 Never grow tired of cuffing anyone who starts a sentence with “Yeah” and ends it with “mate“ from within the comfort of a security blanket 200 miles away.DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:36, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
My my, very touchy aren't we? When it comes to a choice between believing you or a third party source I'm afraid the source will win every time. It's nothing personal, it's just the way wikipedia has always worked. But enough about that, you can go on talking about me more now if you like.--Jeff79 (talk) 20:33, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Birth names don't necessarily come into it - it's to do with c. You may have already been pointed to it, but the two articles to read are Use common names of persons and things and Nicknames, pen names, stage names, cognomens. It's a frequently used convention, ie Doug/Dougie Walters is found under Doug Walters not Kevin Walters or Douglas Walters.  florrie  03:03, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh I don't think he's concerned about minor details like that Florrie. Apparently my user page is the hot topic for now (I know, who'd have thought, right?). We're getting dangerously close to "I'm gonna come over there and kick your ass" territory. Let's see how low he sinks.--Jeff79 (talk) 17:01, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
You will find that my most recently created articles are named after the the most commonly used name, but as I pointed out previously, Wally Lewis´ parents named him Walter James Lewis, but where is the inline refererence in his article that corroborates this? Using your example of Kevin Douglas Walters where is the inline reference that is name is Douglas let alone Kevin? I´m not contesting that his name isn´t Kevin Douglas Walters but where are the inline references? Wouldn´t it be better to correct these older, more widely read articles first? Ps. You could try using a less confrontational and condescending tone in your correspondance, you may illicit a less "kick your ass" response ;o)DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:42, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
That's more like it. Looks like you needed that break.--Jeff79 (talk) 11:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Rugby league footballers nationality

What is the categories rugby league footballers by nationality and rugby league players by nationality for are they going to be deleted and replaced by national team players?Youndbuckerz (talk) 11:17, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I presume what you meant to ask about is the difference between Category:Rugby league footballers by nationality and Category:Rugby league footballers by national team. As the names suggest, one categorises people by their nationality and occupation, the other categorses footballers by the team they've played for. Or maybe you meant to ask why "footballers" and "players" by nationality both exist at the moment. As per the discussion I directed your attention towards, it was decided that "footballers" is going to replace "players".--Jeff79 (talk) 11:23, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh, ok I get it now like a player who has never played for their national team yet like jamal idris is category:australian rugby league footballers. Can i start the category:rugby league footballers by descent or is that just over crowding the categories?Youndbuckerz (talk) 11:31, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure. But I think nationality covers it. Best to put the suggestion on the rugby league project talk page to guague opinion there.--Jeff79 (talk) 11:34, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I see that you created this category and later blanked the page. A faster way to delete a category you've created yourself is to place db-author on the page. Help me make an article neutral?

You seem to take a tough line on article quality, thankfully. I was hoping you could please take a look at the paragraph starting "Further problems emerged on 7 September 2008" in the DW Stadium article. It wasn't written by me, but as a Warriors fan myself, I don't trust my clean-up attempts to be partial enough for the WP:GAN I'm about to thrust upon the article. Could you give me an opinion as a neutral? Cheers, GW(talk) 19:26, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Northern hemisphere articles

Sorry to kick you when you're down, but I tried looking for news articles from the UK with the term "rugby league footballer" and had no joy. "Football" is a term almost exclusively used for association football in this country, hence why Brits get so wound up over the use of the word "soccer". Also, I looked on the French Wikipedia to see what terms they use, and they describe Thomas Bosc as, "un joueur (player) de rugby à XIII français polyvalent". The category they use also has the word "player" not footballer. It's hard because the southern hemisphere uses "footballer" whilst the northern hemisphere uses "player". Even so, "footballer" is more specific. GW(talk) 08:52, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

What do you know about harry wells?

Hi Jeff, why have you removed categories from golden point, especially the CC one? If the NRL category is still applicable then the Challenge Cup one is equally so. LunarLander // talk // 10:59, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

So the idea is to have the Golden Point article within the categories for all competitions in which it applies? Not sure that's necessary, as by the same token you could include any other article in the rugby league terminology category, as they would be equally applicable to those competitions. Not sure why I subconsciously left it in the NRL category. Perhaps because it originated with the NRL. I'm happy for it to be removed from there too for consistency though.--Jeff79 (talk) 11:10, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I didn't add the categories or want an entry for each one that used it, but your edit didn't make sense to remove one competition and leave another. I agree with you that it should be removed for consistency.LunarLander // talk // 11:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

To & from

Hi Jeff - are we going to just go ahead and change the year finished date to a two digit entry? If so, I'll add it to my list of things to check when visiting a page.  florrie  09:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I've started to do it pre-emptively. At the moment it makes no difference as the way the infobox is set, it doesn't shift across yet (possibly because of the "Nickname" and "Full name" fields, which are the longest and might be what's keeping the second column away from the first).--Jeff79 (talk) 09:53, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
I'd be fine with the removal of fullname and nickname from the infobox altogether. If you look at an infobox like the baseball one [5] the name only appears at the top. The footballers full name usually (or can) go at the very beginning of the article. I'll suggest it at the template talk page.  florrie  10:57, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations

Hi Jeff, the description of the final seconds of the final that you've just added to 2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations might be on dodgy ground unfortunately (WP:PLAG) despite your citation because it is the same as the source with one additional word. Dean Bell et al

Hey Jeff, in pages such as Dean Bell's where you have "Easts (Sydney)" in the infobox, do you think its better to link to the New South Wales Rugby League or the New South Wales Rugby League premiership? I'm in two minds about which would be better myself. Cheers Mattlore (talk) 22:19, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

I really can't make my mind up. And it stems from the whole NRL setup with whether or not it and the NSWRL are a separate competition and how to divide all the info on the premiership and the organisations up. I'm still up in the air about how it should all work, so I guess that means I'm easy either way, sorry.--Jeff79 (talk) 23:45, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Well he's just going about making large scale changes without discussion and when other users revert them he undoes them. If he's a new user, ok. But does the fact that it's coming from a known serial sockpuppeteer warrant a case for abuse? I'm not sure.--Jeff79 (talk) 21:42, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, both have a penchant for making widespread, undiscussed changes to rugby league biography infoboxes then edit warring over them, plus the obvious similarity in name and behaviour (i.e. feigned innocence and total disregard for the fact they're going to be caught). See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_league#He.27s_back_again.--Jeff79 (talk) 23:38, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jeff - I've just created an article for Harry Cameron (Easts, Wests [Brisbane]). Do you have any figures for his Wests games?  florrie  13:35, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

The only resource I can access that could help is http://www.qrl.com.au/qrl_history/qrl_rep.php. As a nomad I don't have any books or magazines or anything, just internet access.--Jeff79 (talk) 13:52, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
Hm, no figures but that link also mentions Ipswich! I'll dig around a bit more. Ta, anyway.  florrie  14:04, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

State of Origin template

Hi Jeff79, first off I guees I should say what a great job you've done with the NRL club templates! They look much better now, so well done. However, I'm not sure why you've replaced the current State of Origin template with an inferior one? The one we had was very good and the new one doesn't seem to improve on what we already had, in fact it looks like it has less information on it. I'd just like to hear your reasoning behind the edits. Bongomanrae (talk) 07:03, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

I've reworked the State of Origin template for exactly the same reasons I reworked the club templates so find it fascinating that you approve of one but not the other. I anticipated that someone might come along and start adding their own "important figures" to the clubs' templates, which you have done. So I think they will need to be discussed on the templates' talk pages. The only one of yours I haven't undone is Laurie Daley for Canberra as I understand there is a statue of him in front of Canberra Stadium so that would have to make him a pretty important figure for the club. Unless you have proof like that they're going to be reverted. Feel free to open discussions on their talk pages. The affiliated clubs might also need to be discussed. The ones I've added have sources which I can find again and put on the talk pages if you like. Similarly, if you want to add more they'll need sources too.--Jeff79 (talk) 13:21, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure what all that had to do with the State of Origin template Jeff. As for the additions I made to the NRL templates, I don't know why you would take issue with me adding important figures and updating affiliations to the club templates. ie: Lachlan Murdoch is the owner of the Broncos. Also many of club affiliations you had were out of date or just plain incorrect so I fixed them. Bongomanrae (talk) 02:05, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Well I didn't just make them up. I researched it first. Hope you are too.--Jeff79 (talk) 02:06, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
I've sourced a few links that you had issues with and reverted. I've also left some comments on the discussion pages if you want to reply. Remember we're all working towards the same goal here, I'm not just changing the club affiliations/important figures/etc to annoy you or mislead people ;) Bongomanrae (talk) 06:58, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Certainly. But alarm bells can't help ringing when edits you've found sources (outdated as they might be) for are being undone. You've responded well. We're all here to keep eachother honest in the end.--Jeff79 (talk) 13:09, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Gorden Tallis article

Jeff - I've restored the 'BLP refimprove' tag you removed from the Gorden Tallis article as there was no explanation for the removal and none of the concerns regarding sourcing were addressed. There are only four references included that do not come close to covering the amount of information in the article. I've also left a note on the article talk page per this guideline. Ruben Wiki

Hey Jeff, you added "In 2001 Wiki was banned for two matches after pleading guilty to a dangerous throw charge on Sydney prop Scott Logan.[2]" to Wiki's page, which is all well and good but I was just wondering - is it really notable? Surely he was suspended several times in his long career? Not really concerned either way but just thought I'd mention it. Mattlore (talk) 22:24, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Hopefully it will be buried under more season-by-season info about his playing career as the article grows (a pattern that should be duplicated in all articles for players of his level of notability). Also, I'm just adding things as I find sources for them. Once the sources are put up there, there's loads of info people can access and use again in more articles.--Jeff79 (talk) 22:31, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

International selection from NYC side

Hi Jeff - Dominique Peyroux was selected to represent Cook Islands while he hasn't played at NRL level, only NYC. Should we include the NYC side in the infobox on the understanding it is only because of the representative selection - or not? There would be plenty of other fringe players who have been selected for national teams during this Pacific Cup, too.  florrie  04:38, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, that does put a pretty big spanner in the works of our informal criteria for including club football in the infobox. Perhaps we could include it ONLY in these types of cases, with "(NYC)" after the club name. I can see all the wierdo rugby league editors just taking this and running with it though. Ah well. Not sure what else we can do. Is having international footy with no corresponding club footy more acceptable? I'm not sure.--Jeff79 (talk) 05:42, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
It's pretty much in the same vein as including the non-NSWRL/QRL etc teams, so I don't see any other option. We could leave the team out of the info box and explain it in the text, as has been done on Peyroux's article, but then we could be doing the same for all the others as well. Unfortunately it will be one in, all in.  florrie  11:24, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
I'd leave them out of the infobox, I think. If most want to include someone's amateur or junior or lower grade club I'd like it to be distinguished visually in some way from their professional career. LunarLander // talk // 12:29, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
I really don't like the current situation on the Dominique Peyroux which has the Toyota Cup stats on it. That seems to me to be a slippery slope. Would much rather it just say "Gold Coast Titans 0 0 0 0 0". Otherwise it gives the impression that these stats are equal to whatever first grade games he goes on to play. Mattlore (talk) 20:47, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm not a fan either, but why do it for some players/teams and not NYC? I'm not sure I see the difference listing the team and then leaving the stats at zero as to listing the stats. If the stats are available, they should be used. The listing of the lower teams give the impression that they are equal to first grade teams, in my opinion, not the use of the stats. We nutted this out at the project a while back and reached a consensus, maybe we need to re-open the discussion.  florrie  01:00, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

I've started a discussion here at RLP.  florrie  03:03, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

I think I agree with Matt. Have it appear that he is contracted to the club (which he is) but having played no first grade games (which he hasn't).--Jeff79 (talk) 03:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Rugby league a 'newer game'?

Jeff, I think you make a common mistake when you say rugby league is a 'newer game' than rugby union. Before the 1895 schism, there was clearly a single game, rugby football. Since then the two sports have developed their own distinctive features that mean that not only have they moved a long way from each other but also from their shared roots in 19th century rugby. They have of course both retained features of the pre-schism game, arguably league more than union. Sean Fagan has done a lot of research on this point: http://www.rl1908.com/blog/real-rugby.htm.Haldraper (talk) 09:05, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm aware of everything you mention. Although rugby union and rugby league are both sports, their very names are taken from the organisations that they've been played under, so each sport and its governing body is inextricably linked (some argue that there is only one sport and two codes). The Rugby Football Union was already well-established when it was the twenty-something northern clubs that made their own choice to break away from that establishment. Although the new organisation's laws of the game weren't changed then and there and even their name didn't include the word 'League' yet, they immediately started experimenting with the rules in order to make their game more attractive and they also allowed small concessions in player payments. It could be argued that these two things would define the game of rugby league as much as the number of players on the field or whether or not there were lineouts or play-the-balls. What this all comes down to is a choice for what date to put in the infobox at the very start of an article entitled "rugby league". I think we have to choose one date, as having more than one defeats the purpose of these infoboxes since the body text is the place to detail the game's history and rule changes. I think that one date has to be the first time the game of rugby was played under the League (rugby union's article would ideally have the date the game was first played under the Union).--Jeff79 (talk) 11:47, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Johnathon Ford

Hi Jeff, I am only very new around here but I have done a considerably large amount of List of Australian Kangaroos players and Newcastle Knights so don't think i'm a complete amateur. This is probably very, very simple to do, but there's a page called Johnathon ford, who is a Knights player and I can't seem to get a capital f on Ford. The pages name looks really weird with a lower case f. I am new here so don't get all crazy but if you can help me out here, or atleast tell me how to do it, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Josh the newcastle fan at 4:11am, November 21st, Newcastle time. —Preceding undated comment added 17:22, 20 November 2009 (UTC).

Super League

I read in the 2009 Rugby League Annual that the super league kangaroos were capped in alphabetical order. So i'm gonna cap them in alphabetical order. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 03:42, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Australia appears to have played five Super League tests. So if, for argument's sake, Steve Walters played in the first few games, but Bradley Clyde didn't play till the last few, surely Walters' cap number would be before Clyde's. Just as with the ARL Kangaroos register, we can't go guessing what players' cap numbers might be. Wait until you can find a source (WP:Truth).--Jeff79 (talk) 04:40, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Jeff79! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. Deletion of 'See also' sections

Hello Jeff79. I ask that you not delete any more 'See also' sections from League player articles, and not delete links to the List of incidents. Deleting cross-wiki links is a major concern, and against Wikipedia policy. You can apply to have an article deleted, but you cannot delete wikilinks to that article. Thanks, --Lester 00:23, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Lester. You can be sure that I will continue deleting the superfluous "See also" sections created solely for the purpose of introducing wikilinks to the list of incidents as per WP:UNDUE. Is it your plan to go about introducing these sections to every article that appears on that list? Similarly List of sporting scandals quite rightly does not appear in a "See also" section of every article it features. And nor does List of Australia national rugby league team players, List of Brisbane Broncos players or any other such list, even though they're far more relevant to a players such as Tonie Carroll's career than your incident list.--Jeff79 (talk) 14:07, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Hello Jeff79. As I said, removing links to an article is a serious thing. 'WP:UNDUE' has nothing to do with links.--Lester 19:48, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

"Rugby Football Leagues"

Jeff, I was looking for a citation for the claim on the Rugby league page that the term originated at the time of the 1895 schism in England. Googling the text, the original source for it appears to be this: "Similar breakaway factions occurred from RFU-affiliated rugby unions in Australia and New Zealand in 1907 and 1908, and formed associations known as "rugby football leagues" (available on http://www.crusadersrfl.com/page.php?id=419 amongst other places) which seems to contradict that claim. Haldraper (talk) 21:12, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

It's true that the English body appears to have followed the Australasian bodies' lead in naming themselves a 'League' instead of a 'Union'. I re-worded it so the claim that it originated in England no longer appears. The wording of the etymology section as it is now could probably be improved further, but definitely not deleted wholesale, as the naming of the code seems to me like a perfectly logical question that readers might wonder about and expect to find an answer to in that article.--Jeff79 (talk) 05:14, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

I have received following info from nla: Dear Doug, Thank you for your question about capitalisation in our catalogue records. Libraries throughout the world use a standard form of capitalisation called sentence case for the titles of publications. In sentence case, only the first letter of the first word is capitalised with all other words in lower case unless they are proper nouns or acronyms. You can find more information about sentence case at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentence_case Please let me know if you have any further questions. I don't believe Sentence case is appropriate for a publication whose trademark is capitalized (can you imagine "Sydney morning herald"?), so I'd change it if I knew how. Can you help? And yes, Beckett's Budget was a periodical. Italicization of periodicals in WP seems haphazard but I'm sure there's a directive somewhere. Wayne Bennett

Whilst I appreciate your efforts to open the lines of communication it seems like very is being achieved. I believe the image of Bennett (and the NRL trophy) is a better quality image and is of dimensions better suited to the infobox. You prefer the older image of Bennett (and Tunza Carroll), which is a portrait image, which does not lend itself well to the infobox, especially considering the amount of text available in the Broncos section. I obviously will not revert at this point, as I am very hopeful of continuing the dialogue in the hope of reaching a reasonable conclusion for the both of us.This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 13:55, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Anyone can see that the older (2006) image is of better quality. But, exactly as you said, the newer (2008) image is more of a portrait. I"m really glad that it's "obvious" you will not revert. And please, next time, spare me the fluff: Whilst I appreciate your efforts to open the lines of communication it seems like very [sic] is being achieved....I am very hopeful of continuing the dialogue in the hope of reaching a reasonable conclusion for the both of us... --Jeff79 (talk) 14:20, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I didn't plan to revert until I garnered a response. By using the term portrait I was refering to the dimensions; I will apologise for that, I did not actually add to the term portrait, given that I was talking about dimensions in the previous sentence. Once again my bad. I did also add a caption to the infobox, something I am firmly against, but it was offered in the spirit of congeniality. At this point I do not plan to revert, so please get back to me soon. Many thanks. This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 14:33, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Wayen Bennett

I would think that infoboxs are for first grade only.

mgt98

And you would be right. But it seems your definition of "first grade" needs to be re-thought. If pre-Broncos Brisbane Rugby League was not "first grade" then that means Wally Lewis captained Australia (on undefeated tours of Europe no less) without ever having played a game. I've tried to put together some guidelines here for this very purpose. They are informal but most RL Wikiproject members seem to agree with them.--Jeff79 (talk) 04:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
