Baseless warnings and personal attacks

[edit]

Hi, I have recieved a final warning from User:culverin for allegedly "trolling and pushing racist extreme POV on wikipeida" [[1]]. Culverin has refused to substantiate this warning which I see is a personal attack on me. As you have had dealings with this user in the past, I would like to ask what I should do when subject to groundless warnings? Or do you think that I am out of line here? Thanks Abu ali 16:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recently read this from a talk page: 'So get off your computer and onto the streets. Organize the people around you. The Zionists can censor anything you write here. But they can not close they eyes of those who you have taught to see what is really happening around them. And the battle between the oppressors and the oppressed will not be decided online, but offline. Zionists may outnumber us in Wikipedia. But on the ground in the Middle East we outnumber them by a long long way. Abu ali 10:24, 19 December 2006 (UTC)'

Sorry for my late reply. (I have been very busy). This is the message that came to me attention. User:Brilliance came to me telling me of the the POV comment made. I then visited his talk page where I saw I was not the only one in the past that had warned him for his extreme POV. Regardless of context of this comment and others were used in, in my opinion these comments are unacceptable on wikipedia. Wikipedia is a encyclopedia, not a medium for extremists to express their ideas. Especially at the current time with trouble in the middle east. opinions like this one are far to controversial and offensive at the current time. I felt that Abu needed a stern warning to try make him stop extreme POV push. Regardless of the context we cannot tolerate this! I am sorry If I got to angry and slightly uncivil but comments like these really sadden me. I propose an apology from both sides of this argument and a promise from Abu not to say things like that again on wikipedia, Anywhere else but here.
I would also like to take this time to ask Abu to refrain from making unfounded sock puppetry attacks against User:Brilliance. Just so you know in no way are talk pages supposed to be priviate. Hope this can be sorted out. Cheers. Culverin? Talk 00:31, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Glen, Just for the record, Culverin has refused to substantiate his accusatins of racism against me. The diff he provided from another users private talk page provides no evidence whatsoever of "trolling and pushing racist extreme POV on wikipeida". culverin does not like my politics and that is his right. But he would be wise not accuse me of saying things that I did not say. And I did not attack Brilliance for sockpuppetry, I merely enquired whether he was a sockpuppet as he showed a high level of experience of WP for a new user and it was unclear how he happened to stumble on a remark I made to another user on her private talk page. Enjoy your holiday. We will no doubt speak when you return. Abu ali 09:50, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Glen, this is Brilliance and as you know I am the one who read the odd message left by Abu ali. I understand that the message I left about this comment was a little more than was needed and I would be fine with this situation if Abu Ali would simply cross out his message. But, I recently saw the warning that Abu Ali gave me on my talk page. He has absolutely no authorization to give me a warning. I did nothing wrong and I did not commit a "personal attack". It is a baseless warning coming from the one who commited the crime. This warning should be removed as it did not come from a neutral side. It would be appreciated if Abu ali would remove it. Thank you. Brilliance 23:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]
There is no wikipedia policy that indicates you are required to leave warnings on your talk page - especially if they are "made up" or added without assuming good faith. You can simply revert it yourself. Also since Glen is away on vacation, you may want to involve an admin by making your case on the WP:ANI noticeboard if you think this needs further investigation. Just my 2 cents. Yankees76 00:05, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've commented on this on Brilliance's talk page. Note, that comparing someone to an Islamic dictator, making unfounded claims that they condone suicide bombings, and that they have a goal to kill millions of people is a serious violation of NPA. Remember, AGF says users should assume good faith unless there is evidence to the contrary. Brilliance's comment on Abu ali's talk page, and his refusal to back down on it is pretty strong evidence that they are not acting in good faith. If Brilliance does not head Abu ali's warning, then they will get blocked in future. Chovain(t|c) 00:37, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Most definitely. I was hoping to put out a fire before it started by letting the user know that if he/she doesn't want their warnings for all to see, they may remove them, as an admin can still view them later on if needed. I've found many new users feel that unless a warning is given by an admin then it's not valid, and they're also concerned that it makes them appar guilty later on when other editors visit their talk page. Removing it is a 'legal' option that perhaps helps them start anew, provided it's done civily. Yankees76 06:55, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although this user unfortunately still doesn't seem to think they did anything wrong to begin with. Chovain(t|c) 07:09, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed my message. I except the warning to be removed. I shall return on Monday the 22nd. Brilliance 16:24, 20 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I have noticed that many people have textually formated sigs, often with many colours, frames or fonts, or even with a WingDing or two added (which is not in their username) What I wanted to know is, how do you do that? Hi Glen. I stumbled across Image:VandalProof Mod icon.jpg, which you uploaded. You've tagged it with a fair use tag ({{windows-software-screenshot}}) - but based on your summary comments, I think you intended it to be free use. The whole AFD thing is a charade anyway. I mean, 5 people wanted it merged, and yet 25 people want it like it is, and 18 people wanted it deleted. Still think it was a good admin decision? - Ta bu shi da yu 12:51, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incidently, if you're on holiday and can't respond quickly to admin decisions, can I suggest that you don't make them? - Ta bu shi da yu 13:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. You have an away message. What happens if you make an admin decision and then someone asks you about it, and you don't respond for a week? What happens then, in all fairness to the one who has just had admin action taken against them? - Ta bu shi da yu 13:41, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In case you think what I wrote was in any way related to your revert, it wasn't. If you are on holiday, then you are on holiday! IMO, common courtesy is to not admin. Incidently, your responses must take a long time, as you didn't respond to my initial comment. As for seeming childish - look, I really don't care. I'm particularly annoyed about the way that the previous AFD was overturned, in what appears to be to me a sneaky manner. I also don't like the way that people referred to "policy" where there was none, and I don't in particular think it was a very smart idea to go for merge, when a great deal of people wanted it kept as is. - Ta bu shi da yu 13:52, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Glen, I have to say sorry as I was out of line. I seem to be doing this a lot lately. I think a lot of it has to do with my depression and the fact that I'm exhausted, however I don't want to use that as a crutch. All I can say is: sorry, I was totally out of line and I'll try to make amends, if I can. - Ta bu shi da yu 00:31, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Glen, I appreciate your forgiveness. It means a lot! - Ta bu shi da yu 00:33, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What happened was even though you had redirectd it, the original page was still showing (well on my computer it was), so I redirected back to mine so the page wouldn't show, I wan't sure if the original author had removed your redirect and reposted the page, but it had been missed off the history. Content dispute regarding "fattest city" tag

[edit]

Glen, I though this might interest you. There are two users who are claiming ownership of the St. Catharines, Ontario article and removing information from reliable sources that show their city is the fattest in Canada. Here is the info. Your comments are greatly appreciated here.

On January 22, I added some notable, verifiable information to the St. Catharines, Ontario article.[2] I was in the process of carrying on a civil discussion with Trappy (talk · contribs) on the article talk page regarding where the information would be best placed within the article, when a second user, Snickerdo blanked the information[3] When I attempted to discuss this action with the user, I began to be met with uncivility and personal attacks.

Here is the first instance of content blanking, [4] and here is the second [5]

Here are the diffs for the uncivil posts/personal attacks.

1. [6]

  • "Yankee76, I suggest you back off and stop calling people 'vandals' for working hard to preserve the quality of articles they have worked on for many years. Your arrogance, as well as actually using PETA as a source of data (hahahahahaha) gives you very little credibility in this situation."

(note the reference to me calling people vandals stems from a 1st level warning for removing content from Wikipedia)

2. [7] Snickerdo

  • "God Yankee, you can't even spell the name of the city correctly."
  • "If you don't like consensus and fell that you should be able to crap on any page you like, I'm sure there are many other pages, such as Lambton County, that you can destroy with your own views on Good Faith and the like. *rolls eyes*"
  • "I am getting sick and tired of the arrogance and bullcrap on Wikipedia that comes from users like Yankee."

3. [8] - Snickerdo claims I threatened him and claimed he was "just going to keep removing the reference and keep telling him to go to the talk page".

You'll notice by reading his posts on Talk:St. Catharines, Ontario, that Snickerdo displays a blatant disregard for WP:OWN, WP:CIVIL, WP:V, and WP:NPOV (the user lives in the city of the article).

Any advice or assistance on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks Glen. Yankees76 04:48, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Glen, but it should be noted the behaviour continues. (see this edit summary [9]. I'm not canvassing for support, however personal attacks and uncivil behaviour go beyond a simple content dispute. Yankees76 13:58, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Civility

[edit]

Glen, I read that message yesterday. I have not posted anything other than the mediation today and have backed off as I have obviously acted inaproprietly over allegations that were made against me. I have been involved in Wikipedia for a very long time, and this is the only time I've acted in a way that is unusual for my good character and feel that I should be given the opportunity to speak in my defence, but am instead being treated in what I believe is a very unfair and one-sided way (this is not speaking about you specifically, rather the situation as a whole). In regards to this evening, what did I do today to suddenly deserve this "final warning" for an otherwise spotless time on wikipedia, or are you only just catching up now on what happened yesterday evening before I took a breath and backed off? R.E Civility

[edit]

Yes I'm aware I was uncivil. I admitted it on an admins talk page. Not that I'm trying to make an excuse, but i was provoked into it because a user who was banned indefinitely who was given a second chance, has not changed his ways and it's very frustrating that his ban isn't re-instated. KingIvan 12:06, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, but what I mean is, he had that second chance, then acted in his old ways again and was blocked for one week for it. And straight after that block expired, he just got straight back into what he was previously doing. It's just so frustrating because he's not even attempting to listen to otehr people's opinion's. (Anyway, after this message, I'll probably respond in around 20hrs or so, because I'm about to go to sleep. KingIvan 12:24, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I allways explain why I edit, on the talk pages. And I also presents evidence like in the case of Bosnia was never a modern state. But Ivan is allways reverting without referencens or sources. Because of that, I have reported him and if he continues like that and use personal attacks, then I think it is time to ban him. Alkalada 12:31, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nowhere has he presented evidence that actually supports what he's trying to prove. All he does is edit war and push his POV - nothing more. Apart from the huge factual errors with his editing, he also seems to have very little understanding of the English language, so if he ever does make a good edit (he still hasn't made one, though), it won't even be able to be understood. Furthermore, this user is a sockpuppet (and he freely admits it), and his main account is still indefinitely blocked, so editing with this account is evading his ban - another one to add to his list of broken policies. KingIvan 06:55, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're ignorant because you dont know the rules, no one cares about your theories because there fake, and everyone is going to revert them like everyone now does, unless you use the talk page. Nareklm 04:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dont fool yourself again, I was always using the Talk pages, they can check the edit history. Also Its not my theories. What are you talking about? I said Persian words have more similar to Phrygians than Armenian words. I said Im Persian Armenian, I know these words. Even this stranger here knows what Im talking about. 75.17.7.3 04:59, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unless he thinks Im making it up when I say Persian words are more similar. But im sorry thats not the case. You are ignorant on these language issues. Same with the other language issues which I found more similar to Armenian, 80% of the Sanskrit words are in Armenian. My examples are on my Talk page, and thats only a few of them. 75.17.7.3 05:00, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You dont seem to know Armenian and you havent looked at the 3 links with 1000's of word examples here:

http://www.selfdiscoveryportal.com/cmSanskrit.htm

http://www.srimadbhagavatam.org/glossary/a.html

http://sanskritdocuments.org/hindi/dict/eng-hin-itrans.html

I dont think Glen wants 1000's of words on his page???

Listen, you've just admitted you're a sockpuppet of a currently blocked user. My advice is to disappear off the radar and stop editing Wikipedia right now until your block ends. The only other option is that I begin blocking your IP address, or even range block your entire ISP. Glen 05:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Stop saying im ignorant,Let me make it easy on you those are not reliable. based on your knowledge you have the same IQ as a two year old, you don't have reliable sources, tac central is nothing, it just shows how ignorant you are, you can't base the information on your Persian Armenian skills, and you dont have "Special skills". Nareklm 05:03, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Glen he doesn't understand this, and he calls me ignorant. Nareklm 05:05, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you dont want to find out about the truth, just stay ignorant man. You need to find out before you judge like that. You didnt even read the links. 75.17.7.3 05:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There not reliable end of story. Nareklm 05:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. Nareklm 05:08, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You dont even want to check the words , a 2 year old can even see the word similaritys. Thats how much you make sense.

You cant see that Phrygian = mater and Persian = "madar" compare Armenian "mair"

Glen tell Narek which one is similar. This is just one example out of many many ! 75.4.208.247 05:14, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Phrygian words include:

   * germe, 'warm',

PIE *gwher-, 'warm'; cognate to Gk: thermos (θερμός) "warm", Per: garme "warm", Arm: ĵerm "warm", Alb: zjarm "warm".

   * mater, 'mother',

cf. Gk: meter (μήτηρ) "mother", Per: madar "mother", (Armenian 'mair' Persian madar more similar)

   * brater, 'brother',

PIE *bhrater-, 'brother'; Per: bratar 'brother' (Armenian 'eghbair' Persian bratar more similar)

afsoos, ogheyanos, etc etc are more similar words in Persian with Phrygians(or Greek) than Armenian. 75.4.208.247 05:15, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback Tools

[edit]

Hello, a while back On this post here, you did something to set up non admin rollback tools. These tools seem to not be functioning for some reason as my rollback buttons have dissapeared. I am not sure how much this will affect me because I am more than likley going to be an admin at the end of the day, however, I really enjoyed the tools and was wondering if you know what I have to do to get them working again? Actually, I've just given him a final warning...or do you think an indef. block would be good now? Khoikhoi 05:55, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage count

[edit]

Thank you for updating my forgotten edit count. However, please do not edit my user page; it tends to attract vandalism from those whom I've blocked on Wiktionary. So edits to it from anyone other than me, are usually a good indication of cross-project vandal activity.  :-)   Instead, a brief reminder on my talk page should suffice. --Connel MacKenzie - wikt 18:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost

[edit]

Yes, I was. The issue was that while I said anyone over 3 weeks, most of the editors I removed hadn't edited in 3+ months, and were just being endlessly spammed. This happens only for the on-wiki messages, not the e-mail messages. If you wish to stay on the list permanently, I can keep you out of future removals. Woops, sorry

Different looking warnings.

[edit]

Hello. Where did you get the more colorful warnings. I like them. Keep up the good work. --Xiahou 00:26, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

actually that vandal did get something right... take a look at those userboxes

[edit]

yea I noticed that. Made me 'try' to read up on the whole scepia thing. I don't get it. The guy 'takes' userboxes by saying its policy yet you read the policy and it says or rather the consensus says heck I can't figure it. Its the longest wiki page Ive tried to read and I can't figure out what the issue/problem is or what is becoming of it. Seems like a mess. Personally I'd take if its not broke then don't fix it approach. I am learning on here though that means pages of debate and policy and some new W:acronymn to read that really doesn't say it in black and white. Anyway thanks for the quick fix I was debating on doing it. --Xiahou 02:52, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
