It's an offshoot of a problem that was most evident in human and animal longevity articles. The most relevant sections are here and here. One issue with using flags is that they can be misleading. For example, read the sentence, "Hideki Matsui is a baseball player in the 
United States"; true, but Matsui is and considers himself Japanese. He only plays in the US because we have better baseball, he doesn't refer to himself as an American; sticking an American flag next to his name could lead people to think that he now considers himself to be an American. Similar things can happen with war veterans; Ernest Hemingway fought in the Spanish Civil War with Spanish forces, but was himself American. The other issue, which is far more pointed in longevity articles but still an issue here, is that nationality isn't always important. In the case of (just for fun) the war between the Red and White armies in the USSR, it doesn't really matter whether the White Army soldier was British, Russian, or American, it's more important to emphasize that the soldier fought for the Mensheviks. A final small point that's worth noting is that flag icons take up a considerable amount of bandwidth because they're transcluded onto pages; the List of living supercentenarians article, before all the flag icons were removed, took my computer a lot longer to load than it does now. Even though we aren't usually supposed to worry about performance, one of the exceptions is if you notice a change, and you can confirm that it's something specific causing it. I hope that helps. Article lead
The article lead should summarize the article in a concise manner, not saying anything the referenced content does not support. While it's true that at least the French Air Force was underfunded (the Navy is more debatable), this is a peripheral issue at best and doesn't need to be in the lead. Usually the lead is the last thing to write, as it is supported by the body of the article, so improvements should focus on the main content first, followed up by improvements to the lead. Anti-vandalism
Generally it's advised to put one of the official user-warning templates (such as {{uw-vandalism1}}) on the talk page of a vandal - the numbers increase for the severity of the vandalism and the previous number of warnings received - for obvious bad-faith vandalism, you can skip straight to {{uw-vandalism4im}}. If the user vandalises after the final warning, you can put their name up at WP:AIV and an administrator will intervene.
Oh yeah, you should read the relevant guideline on identifying vandalism before actually working on destroying it.

Speedy tagging
Thanks for patrolling new pages - a thankless task without which Wikipedia would soon become useless. I have deleted Vocibo, which you tagged, but WP:CSD#G1 wasn't the right tag to use - that is only for "Pages consisting entirely of incoherent text or gibberish". If you can tell what it's about, it's not a G1. This was about an on-line game, so the right tag was {{db-web}}. It was probably promotional enough for {{db-spam}}, but if an article fails WP:CSD#A7 and well as WP:CSD#G11 it's better to use an A7 tag, otherwise the author is liable to take out a few glowing adjectives and post it again. It's worth reading the definitions in WP:CSD carefully; also, there is good advice from an experienced admin at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. Keep up the good work! Hi, I've just started to do a bit of WP:NPP and had a look at some recently patrolled articles by other editors. I found that you'd CSD'd Twilight Sparkle: Teacher for a Day as "unsalvageably incoherent". It wasn't: I've salvaged it and left a friendlier message on the editor's talk page. It was that editor's first edit, and I hope s/he (odds on that it's a young "she", an under-represented group of editors) will stay around and learn to use their shift key and improve their editing.
