Because by the Dave Clark Five[edit]

Gongshow.......are you aware of the legal settlement that Ron Ryan (writer of the song Because by the DC5) and Dave Clark (of the DC5) entered into? Mr. Ryan accepted a settlement from Mr. Clark (or his business entity) that allowed Mr. Clark to forever be known as the writer of the song Because (as I understand it). I have made such changes to your original article and I have also invited Mr. Ryan to comment regarding this. Mr. Ryan has historically chosen to not speak of the settlement, as it precludes him from making the charges that he (Mr. Ryan) is the original author of the song Because. Had Mr. Ryan never entered into legal settlement with Mr. Clark, he could continue to make the claim, however, it is public information that Mr. Ryan did accept funds from Mr. Clark and did enter into a settlement at that time. For the Wikipedia article, Ron Ryan's name cannot be used, as Mr. Ryan forfeited that right through legal and proper channels.

Hi Beaconmike, thanks for writing. When creating the "Because" article back in June 2011, I had looked online for general information on the song (e.g., chart performance, critical commentary/reviews), and it was at that time when I learned of the settlement involving Mr. Ryan and Mr. Clark. I came across a couple mentions of the settlement in message boards, but as message boards didn't - and still don't - meet Wikipedia's reliable sources criteria, I ignored them and focused on the books, magazines, newspapers, and reputable websites I had found that contained coverage of the song. None of these sources mentioned Mr. Ryan, and indeed (see the original June 7, 2011 version of the Wikipedia article), I credited Mr. Clark as the songwriter because that's who the reliable sources had credited. In viewing the article's edit history, the addition of Mr. Ryan's name was added the following day by a different editor. I haven't regularly monitored the article, and now that I see the current version, my preference moving forward would be to remove all mentions of Mr. Ryan and restore the original June 7, 2011 version. Please let me know if that solution would be helpful, or if I may be helpful in some other way. You are on the correct and legal track here. I do my very best to trust Wiki for its accuracy and dependency for the truth. I have invited Mr. Ryan to present his side of the equation. He refuses to comment on the settlement between he and Mr. Clark (which I do believe happened and is true and verifiable). Mr. Ryan has preferred to state that he was the original writer of the song (which I believe to be true), rather than admit that he gave away his legal rights to be able to claim that he was the original songwriter, in the settlement with Mr. Clark.

The debate over this has gone on and on for many a year on the DC5 message boards that pop up around the web. Until Mr. Ryan decides to acknowledge the terms of his settlement with Mr. Clark, and until that can be verified, the legal right for Mr. Ryan must be recused from the pages of Wiki, as Mr. Ryan's claims are not legally correct. Mr. Clark is the legal owner of the song "Because" and as such, should not be entitled to be challenged by anyone elses claims (without proof).

I encourage you to edit the page to reflect that Mr. Clark is the legal owner of the song, and until such proof is presented by Mr. Ryan on the talkpage regarding the settlement with Mr. Clark, that Mr. Ryan's claims are just that...............claims with no verifiable proof and probably in violation of his settlement with Mr. Clark. I strongly suspect that Mr. Ryan was awarded funds by Mr. Clark's business entity during the settlement, that amongst other conditions, precluded Mr. Ryan from ever again making the claim that the song "Because" was written by Mr. Ryan.

Literally all the sources are from when he played Beaver — and even then they do little more than name him — and I don't think a voice acting role on a 13 episode cartoon holds much weight toward WP:ENT. Your de-prodding was decently done and your comments at the resulting AFD were quite cogent. While it would be nice that the fellow have wide coverage for his entire body of work, it is enough that even sources which tend to concentrate on one film, offer information about others that can be used to cite the article. In addressing the mis-impression by some that his child actor notability is dismissable simply because he left the business, I kept WP:NTEMP in mind when I began expanding and sourcing[1] the article in question. That some of the available sources might be behind paywalls is not a criteria for deletion. I invite you to assist in further expansion and sourcing. How to create rivalry page?[edit]

Do you know how to create a rivalry page like the Michigan-ohio one?

Basically, I don't know where to start haha. I'm trying to make one for the new Michigan-Nebraska rivalry. It's a new rivalry for both teams in terms of meetings on the field, but the two programs know each other very well for bad reasons (1997 dispute, 2005 alamo bowl ending controversy).

Wineville Chicken Coop Murders[edit]

I'm not too sure how this stuff works at all, but let me ask you a question. I think I am writing to someone named gongshow. If not, and this message is going to someone else...........sorry.

Gongshow; are you the person who wrote that I do not own the wineville chicken coop murders and that my postings have ruined the page?

Before I get into it with you, I want to make sure that you are in fact the person whom has accused me of such on that page. Someone has left me messages accusing me of stuff, and if they wish to speak to me in an unemotional matter like an adult, with a mature discussion of my involvement and knowledge, then I am more than willing to back up anything you wish to ask me about.

If that is not you, please disregard this message. IF this is you, would you please quit screaming at me and just ask me your questions. There is absoulutely nothing that I have posted that is not able to be backed up with historical facts. In fact, I spend a great deal of time on this page, trying to make quite certain that those who post regarding the history of Wineville versus the film Changeling do not get the 2 mistaken.

I have the backing of the Riverside Historical society on my side, the 2 authors whom have penned the only 2 books about Wineville and I have completely discredited the screenwriter of the film Changeling with his historical lies and inaccuracies.

So what are your questions and let's speak maturely, if you have questions ,just ask them, but you had better be very careful of that which you are accusing me of...............if that is you whom is doing it.

  • As the one who first created the article, I'm grateful that you found enough material to satisfy TPH enough to withdraw his deletion proposal. It is very frustrating to see challenges of articles I created years ago and have long ago stopped thinking about, so I have to try to dredge up more material. This whole business of prod-ing articles that were good enough in the past is one reason I hardly ever edit Wikipedia any more, and have gone to Wikia. I added the extra words before Elks Club and Lions club as you suggested.

Your suggested change to "cash and carry (wholesale)" was not correct so I deleted that change. Cash and carry refers to walk-in retail customers.

Your suggested change to add "performance-related pay" before "bonuses" was not correct so I deleted the change. The bonuses that were paid were from excess profits that were distributed to all employees based on years of service.

Hi, thanks for writing. I believe your points are meant for another editor, as my only contribution to the article was to clarify the use of cold storage (see link for the edit I made back in May). Generally, if you find that an editor's suggestion is incorrect, Wikipedia encourages all of us to be bold, and your deletions sound reasonable given your reasoning. Please note that "Cash and carry" by itself does not link to an article, but to a list of articles which are related to the term in some way. If none of these possibilities apply, it might be best to simply remove the link.
As for nutshells at the beginning of articles, having a section (whether it's a sentence or paragraph) which serves as an introduction/summary to the article is standard practice, and is particularly useful in articles of this length. For example, here are a few articles about other Connecticut-based companies: Pratt-Read, TicketNetwork, American Brass Company. I hope this helps. I'm pretty new to this Wikipedia article-writing stuff and it gets pretty confusing trying to create an article that satisfies everyone.

Regarding the lead-in paragraph: Is there coding that I need to add to start and stop the Introduction? Somewhere I found "===Introduction===" that I think may start the lead. Do I need some other coding to stop the lead section or does "===History===" stop the lead?

Regarding the Issues that need to be resolved: One says that "This article is orphan as no other articles link to it." Can I, or some reviewer (you?) remove this comment since this is not an editing issue and can only be resolved if somebody else eventually links to this article -- which may not happen for some time, if at all.
