Planetary Gemologist

The redirect link from Planetary Gemologist was Speedy'ed when I moved the article to my User space for protection. The actual article was never AfD'ed. The page was held in my user-space for evidence during a AfD on another article by the same author that seems to want to promote his own celebrity on Wikipedia. Geoffrey Giuliano

I've had several previous encounters with editors who obsessively edit a single article for the purpose of conveying a specific POV. They generally ignore all attempts to get them to work collaboratively and abide by Wikipedia policies.

One way we can respond is that we just keep reverting his edits. Often these people give up after a while when they realize that, as I said in my most recent edit summary, we can indeed outlast them. They go away and find something other than Wikipedia to occupy their time.

Another possibility is to block the problem user. This happened recently on Reuben Singh. There the user was determined to do character assassination, instead of puffery, but the pattern was otherwise the same. The user was blocked, and the article semi-protected so that he couldn't readily return to it with an anonymous IP. A few days ago it was unprotected, and so far all is well.

In the case of Geoffrey Giuliano, the author or his devotee (I'm not sure which it is) has used multiple IP addresses but not, I think, a registered account. Therefore, blocking wouldn't help. If the vandal persists for a few more days, then we'll be justified in seeking semi-protection (see Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy). Until then, we'll see if he gets the message with the help of a few more reversions. JamesMLane t c 01:05, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

This is a tough one, isn't it? My suggestion would be to give a week after the AfD closes and try to immediately revert whenever the article gets edited in a POV/vanity way. (I'll watchlist it too if need be.) If these anons keep on adding the stuff back, and you keep reverting, at that point you can probably ask for it to be semi-protected. Chances are, the anons will give up at that point - few people other than dedicated POV warriors and flat-out vandals will keep on trying to play ball.-Dmz5*Edits**Talk* 03:47, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

See, the process worked. As Dmz5 and I had hoped, Notinsane gave up. Of course, it would have been better if he had remained to contribute in a collaborative way, but I never held out much hope for that. At least he stopped making trouble. GURPS books

Thanks for your efforts for the GURPS books. I'm not so familiar with them myself, but would hate to see all the information lost. I would suggest, however, in merging information into the List of GURPS books we should probably avoid incorporating the potentially troublesome aspects in the original articles like being the inspiration of, or source of, twenty novels. If we can't locate sources to insert into the original article (thereby establishing its notability), I think this can just end up "transferring" some of the notability problems onto the "List" article itself. In my opinion, if we can't locate sources, we should probably limit the information on a supplement to a short description of it. But this is one guys opinion. Yes, I think the best thing to do at this point is to do the redirecting and such that has been talked about on Talk:List of GURPS books. I see that the editor involved in instigating all appears to be a strong deletionist. I also don't know if you've noticed but, for example, {{notability}} tags have been placed on Steve Jackson Games, Graeme Davis, S. John Ross, and David L. Pulver, the last three being writers of GURPS supplements (amongst other things). (So as I've mentioned elsewhere, a systematic "attack", for lack of a better word, on all things GURPS.) I've started to try and give some sources for notability on some of these articles too, but have a real job to do as well.  :) I have actually e-mailed Daid Pulver to ask him if he's been interviewed for any (well-known) magazine. I'm tempted to do the same for the other guys, but haven't yet done so.

Feel free to take one on yourself (but don't feel obligated). Obviously there should be lots of info in various magazines and such on Steve Jackson Games, as well as these other guys. For example, Graeme Davis was one of the original developers of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay! I've mentioned the {{notability}} tag on Graeme Davis on Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Role-playing games but have received, at best, a lukewarm response. It's a bit frustrating when you encounter people who only want to delete things without (seemingly) bothering to help make them better. If no one else has done so, I'll probably mention the new tags elsewhere on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Role-playing games page later, but am not sure what to expect from them now. Toaff

Dear Goochelaar. I'd appreciate your own view on this issue. Mine is that, as an old medieval dictum says: 'Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate' which, in Wikispeak translates: 'Pages should not be multiplied, as if they were the progeny of Genesis, unless absolutely necessary'.

I was working on the Toaff page, when Beit Or created a separate page suggesting that this was an improvement. I am not convinced. True, the draft is bulky (I could paste it into the Toaff talk page eventually) but should be able to be winnowed down to a few pages once all the chapters have been described. Other editors, for example, on the Oriental Culture and Languages pages, tell me brief biographical pages are usually eliminated unless they are expanded enough to justify their existence in Wiki. Without a discussion of the 'Bloodlibel' book on his bio page, Toaff, by this criterion, will also eventually be dropped.

My suggestion then is that the separate page be cancelled, and that, if acceptable, I proceed over the next week or so, to provide a chapter by chapter breakdown of the work. My work on the Toaff page is highly provisory, and requires some patience, since the synopsis is being posted there so that others, who haven't read the book (which is no longer in print) if they are so minded, can use my précis to get an idea of the book, ask me to elaborate or prune, then edit it all in turn and discuss it without leaving the article to a survey of gossip about it at third or fourth hand. It's materia prima for all those who wish eventually to give a brief run-down of the book. Regards Nishidani 18:04, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

• Yes, I don't speak Dutch (only a few words, absorbed when I spent six months in Ghent). Goochelaar is a name I chose long ago for a magic-using character in a role-playing game, believing it to mean something like "wizard". When I discovered the correct meaning, the character name, and later the nickname, remained the same. Now I am going to answer you about dwarves, Warcraft and the like. Do you have the Angier version or the Borden version?

Well, here's a mystery! I agree with you about the turn, but it appears that my copy of the novel does not match yours. I have a TOR edition. It's TOR's first edition published in September 1997, and a softcover. Part Two ends on page 134 and covers the quasi-corporeal Angier's attempt on Bordens' life, and it's called 15 (chapter?). It is preceded by a three-paragraph "14". It definitely doesn't have 39 chapters or parts to it. So, did you get your version from Borden(s) or Angier? lol.

I'm going to scan through the whole thing tonight and see where the three parts are described, however, what page number did you find it on?

Schools and A7

Whether or not schools are notable is a rather controversial issue - there have been several failed proposals to define whether or not a school is notable. Because they can be controversial, it's best to use another deletion process (like AfD) to delete them because then the article can be reviewed by more people. (This is noted at Wikipedia:CSD#A7.)

Speedy deletion shouldn't be used on appliances, fictional characters etc. For those, there's proposed deletion or articles for deletion. WT:CSD frequently gets proposals to expand A7 to include things like fictional characters, but they never get consensus. Hut 8.5 10:48, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

From Talk:Algorithm

I noticed your comment there about Harvard references. Since the name of the author appears in the citation, you need to scroll and click less with Harvard references than with footnotes - once you know what publication "Smith 1984" is, you never need to look at the reference list again to know which source is being used when you see that in an inline citation. This makes it easier to see potentially outdated or biased sources, since the author and date can't be hidden inside footnotes. It also lets readers who are familiar with the sources tell instantly if a fact is being cited to a standard reference (a common textbook) or an uncommon reference (since the reader won't recognize the name in that case). Of course the links from the inline citations to the reference section are convenient, and I would like to use them more. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

The irony article.

Greetings, I added the Mark Twain thing. You removed my adds but you didn't remove this 1:

At the age of 23, basketball star "Pistol" Pete Maravich told a Pennsylvania reporter, "I don't want to play 10 years [in the NBA] and then die of a heart attack when I'm 40." In 1988 he collapsed and died of a heart attack at age 40, after playing 10 NBA seasons.

By the above, Pete Maravich predicted his death, the same way Mark Twain did. So logically, if you removed the Mark Twain thing, you should also remove that.

The reason I added the Mark Twain thing was because of seeing the Pete Maravich. If the Pete Maravich isn't fit for the article, then I would see how Mark Twain isn't either. Basically, I feel either both of them should be there, or both of them removed.

But if your argument was that Pete Maravich predicting his death is relevant but not Mark Twain predicting his death, then I would have a problem, and would like to see your reasoning.

In any event, I don't care to touch that article or revert to my edit, since I believe in only doing things once and talking about it, but just simply seeing your reasoning, so for the article, the honor is yours. Neal (talk) 23:14, 21 March 2008 (UTC).

Hi Goochelaar - a few days ago, you reminded anonymous user 72.241.104.7 not to engage in wholesale deletions of anonymous articles, many of which were (in your estimation) clearly Wikipedia-worthy. He or she apologised on his/her discussion page. However, I'm sorry to report that he/she has emerged once again, doing the same thing, under the anonymous number 72.241.101.20. It is clear that the same person is involved in these wholesale comments, as two of the articles he/she has attacked are Gerald Shapiro and Gary Forrester, neither of whom is remotely related to each other in any way. Both names appear in both anonymous contribution lists. I have an interest in this, because I have been very involved in the development of the Gary Forrester after an earlier go-round that was flawed because of self-edits and disorganized content. With the assistance of a number of Wikipedia editors, we have got the article into pretty good shape, I feel. You will find a very brief discussion of the latest attacks on Zagalejo's talk page, where the anonymous user makes some comments that are just plain factually inaccurate. What do you advise? We are happy to keep improving the article, if need be. The goal is to get the facts clear, with ample citation to sources, which we believe has been largely achieved - but there is always room for improvement. Ciao, e grazie dei commenti. Il problema della voce su Guido Monte com'è adesso è che è priva o quasi di fonti secondarie "independent and reliable". Scusa se non ho verificato ogni singola citazione, ma mi sembra che si faccia solo riferimento o a testi di Monte (che saranno anche interessantissimi, ma non attestano che lui sia "notable"), o di suoi editori, curatori etc. Servirebbe qualche riferimento a riviste, libri, siti web autorevoli (cioè non il blog di qualcuno) che recensiscano un suo libro, parlino di lui. In generale, il problema di una voce su una persona - in questo caso un poeta - non universalmente noto è che si può non sapere se è un poeta significativo o un millantatore che pubblica a proprie spese (non sto dicendo che questo sia il caso di Monte), o che altro, e quindi servono fonti affidabili. Quelle che hai inserito sono un po' "borderline": chi è Orlando de Rudder? a sua volta non ha una voce sulla WP e la citazione è tratta da un blog... Io non conosco queste persone, ma proprio perché è possibile non conoscerli le fonti dovrebbero essere a prova di bomba. Probabilmente queste cose le sai meglio di me, e comunque sono spiegate bene per esempio qui per quanto riguarda le fonti e qui per quanto riguarda come stabilire che una cosa o persona è "notable" ai fini della WP. Ciao, effettivamente mi dici cose note (per quanto sia da pochissimo dentro questo mondo, ma per es. fare accettare anche in it.Wiki il Multilinguismo cosmopolita non è stato facile, e ho quasi "doverosamente" partecipato alla voce Poesia plurilingue), anche se d'altra parte altre voci di autori plurilingue in en sono piuttosto "scoperte" (addirittura una con come fonti una sola recensione e il sito personale del poeta). Certo è un autore italiano, quindi il discorso è più complesso, date le nostre tradizioni letterarie. Ciao. Apprezzo il lavoro che hai profuso nella voce. Ti dico sinceramente che non sono convintissimo della "notability" di Monte, ma gli concedo il sufficiente beneficio del dubbio da non proporre la cancellazione o simili (anche se qualche volta le proposte di cancellazione hanno un effetto positivo, nel senso che attirano l'attenzione di altri contributori, che portano nuove fonti etc.). Purtroppo non ho tempo di metterci le mani io. Posso chiederti di riportare queste fonti che mi citi anche nella pagina di "talk" della voce su Monte, magari descrivendole in inglese? Possono essere utili se qualcun altro vorrà intervenire, costruttivamente o meno.

Benissimo. Ecco subito un suggerimento pedante: ti dirò che non trovo una buona idea la citazione prima dell'inizio, perché è bene che le prime parole della voce siano il "lead" vero e proprio ("Pinco Pallino era un verduraio islandese del XVII secolo..."), anche perché questo aiuta a visualizzare la voce correttamente in vari programmi, siti etc. E poi sono sconsigliate le citazioni fini a sé stesse e sarebbe meglio inserirle in un contesto se esprimono un fatto o un opinione; se sono solo "campioni" dell'opera della persona di cui si parla, il loro posto è più su Wikiquote o Wikisource. In un altro tipo di libri o siti, anche a me piacciono molto le citazioni in epigrafe a un libro o a un capitolo, ma qui si tende a non usarle. Per fare un esempio macroscopico, vedrai che nella voce su Dante Alighieri le uniche citazioni sono all'interno di un discorso sul suo esilio. Scusami se ti disturbo di nuovo (anche se dalle tue non-risposte vedo che non hai il tempo materiale:), ma mi chiedevo: se spostassimo la voce Monte su Cosmopolitan multilingualism (naturalmente la modificherei opportunamente), tu saresti più obbligato a taggarla di inadeguate fonti? In fondo l'argomento (come in it:Multilinguismo cosmopolita) renderebbe Monte e le sue riviste "terziarie" rispetto ad esso, quindi più enciclopedico come argomento di cui parlare. Che ne pensi? E, se sei d'accordo, che tag devo mettere per farlo spostare? P.s. Ho riflettuto e credo di non rendere un buon servizio a monte, al multilinguismo e alla poesia plurilingue, conservando una voce che è etichettata come potenzialmente non adeguata ai canoni di en-wikipedia. Se per esempio la mia voce Ego non viene etichettata come inadatta, in fondo non ha importanza, perché coinvolge solo “me”. Credo che invece non sia molto giusto da parte mia coinvolgere su en-wiki in questo modo (in una voce cioè non perfettamente riconosciuta) così tante persone, riviste e studiosi (de Rudder, etc.) che neppure lo sanno. Scusa tu se non riesco sempre a rispondere sollecitamente. Quanto ai tuoi vari quesiti:

1. Non vedere necessariamente le "tag" come marchi negativi: possono essere, e spesso sono, un incoraggiamento a migliorare quella voce per ulteriori frequentatori della WP. Il caso tipico è appunto la tag "cleanup", che tra l'altro fa finire quella voce in un elenco consultato da chi è interessato a migliorare le voci della WP, i famosi volunteer di cui dicevi. Per esempio, in Guido Monte sarebbe bene quanto meno migliorare le note e le fonti usando qualcuno dei "citation templates", e forse non sono neanche tuttissime necessarie (poche ma buone!). A proposito del cleanup, avrai già visto che effettivamente si può suggerire una voce su cui lavorare, nella pagina Wikipedia:Cleanup.
2. Devo ammettere che non ho un'opinione precisa sull'opportunità di una voce sul Multilinguismo cosmopolita rispetto a una su Monte. Comunque, se decidi di farlo, puoi per esempio spostare l'intera voce a un'altra intestazione (con l'opzione "move"), e verrà creato automaticamente un "redirect" dal nome precedente a quello nuovo.
3. Infine, non mi odiare, ma anche Ego non mi lascia un po' perplesso: non viene citato nessun esempio dell'uso di "ego non" esattamente in questa forma, ma solo la massima completa "etiamsi..." e la forma tedesca.

1. ho guardato l'elenco delle voci necessitanti cleanup: sono milioni! Quanto ai miglioramenti da parte di altri frequentatori, lo spero caro amico, lo spero:), ho infatti provveduto anche a indicare la voce sull'it. Poesia multilingue;
2. se non ti convince che lo spostamento possa essere migliorativo, e mi dici che il tag che hai messo in fondo non "sporca" molto la voce, allora tanto vale lasciare per ora tutto com'è e attendere gli eventi:)
3. integrerò esempi di "ego non" trovati su google:)posso cmq aggiungere anche la forma estesa come nuova voce. Faciant meliora Potentes:)

Ciao. Direi che dipende dalla "neutralità" del commento. Tendenzialmente un commento non attribuito a qualcuno è OR, ma un conto è se, per esempio, osservi che quella frase somiglia a un'altra massima o simili; un altro conto è se, poniamo, tu dicessi che è la più bella frase di tutte le lettere di Paolo. Io personalmente ammetterei solo il primo tipo di commento.

Già che ci sono, mi sembra che tendi un po' a ignorare le linee guida della WP sulla "notability" e sulle fonti. In teoria, una voce come "Sed ipse..." avrebbe una ragion d'essere solo se si esibissero testi, libri, fonti in generale su quella frase, che attestino che è importante e studiata di per sé. Non ogni frase di ogni libro sacro "merita" una voce, per quanto possa essere profonda o poetica, così come non ogni verso di Dante o ogni aria di un'opera di Mozart. Quest'ultimo esempio non è casuale: qualcuno bofonchiava a proposito dell'esistenza di una voce a sé stante dedicata a "Madamina, il catalogo è questo", e allora mi sono messo di buzzo buono a scartabellare tra i miei libri e l'ho rimpolpata con fatti e opinioni documentati. ...grazie:) il problema è che sono in possesso di fonti librarie che potrebbero aver senso nella corrispondente voce italiana che ho scritto (quindi sfrutterò il tuo suggerimento), ma che non potrebbero essere mai reperite da utenti anglo-americani, se non ordinandole macchinosamente per posta (forse). In en-wiki non ho finora mai indicato fonti se non reperibili sul web, perché mi sembrerebbe poco limpido, tranne che in un caso: la voce su Giuseppe Ungaretti. Mi dispiace sparlare (ma d'altra parte te ne parlo anche per sapere da te se ho agito correttamente), ma un utente, che nella history credo di aver identificato con Dahn (Talk | contribs), ha costruito quasi tutta la voce su Ungaretti basandosi su una sola poco nota (io non la conosco) fonte cartacea in lingua inglese (Picchione & Smith), che descrive Ungaretti e altri innocenti autori italiani come accaniti fascisti o militaristi, deformando in buona misura i fatti. Ho scritto nella discussion e a Dahn, ma nessuno finora mi ha risposto; così ho provveduto a correggere le deformazioni più calunniose, portando a mia volta come prova solo una fonte cartacea in un'occasione (anche se la voce sarebbe totalmente da riscrivere). Certo, a parte questo eclatante episodio ammetto di essere piuttosto sregolato sulla "notability": resto colpito dalla poeticità di idee e persone che leggo o noto sul web, e spesso mi muove il desiderio di far conoscere agli altri la loro universalità o profondità indipendentemente dalle prove che ho a disposizione per dimostrarlo. Ben vengano i "bofonchiamenti"! Li capisco bene, anch'io ho personaggi e argomenti che mi stanno a cuore e che "coltivo".

Io non mi preoccuperei troppo di evitare fonti cartacee, anche se in italiano. Un'enciclopedia "seria" - e uno vorrebbe che la WP lo sia quanto più possibile - non le rifugge, anzi. È chiaro che è più immediato verificare o approfondire con un semplice clic, ma è anche importante avere i riferimenti a tutte le fonti possibili, senza contare che spesso quelle cartacee sono le più affidabili o addirittura le uniche. E se uno è veramente interessato, per esempio, a un poeta italiano, prima o poi dovrà affrontare testi in italiano. (Ancora una volta, non che io faccia testo, ma vedrai che non ho avuto scrupoli a citare testi italiani a proposito di "Madamina...", e nessuno ha detto niente, se non per esprimere apprezzamento.)

Non c'entra direttamente: parzialmente invogliato dal vedere la tua energia, mi sono deciso a compilare una prima bozza di voce su Giovanni Raboni, per ora prendendo per lo più materiale dalla corrispondente voce italiana. Grazie per la fiducia, per un gigante come Raboni è difficile mantenerla però da parte mia, di fronte all'autore della formidabile Canzone del danno e della beffa (se non la conosci ecco il link[9]). Devo rivedere la voce un po' meglio, ma a prima impressione la mia sensazione è duplice: se è la biografia è propedeutica ad una poetica, allora è proprio perfetta; se invece, come talvolta succede, resterà solo la biografia, allora va bene solo fino alla citazione su Montale, poi deve riprendere corposità nel far capire al lettore non la semplice "notability", ma l'originalità, cosa ha detto e fatto di nuovo nel suo campo (e penso che il filo rosso sia naturalmente il "mix" tra gusto della classicità e impegno etico-civile). E (anche se forse non sarai d'accordo, per le "usanze" di en-wiki) per dimostrare davvero questo credo che l'unico modo sia quello d'inserire anche almeno un paio di spezzoni di sue poesie, con relativa traduzione in ingl. a fronte (potrei cercare di aiutarti se vuoi). E ritengo sia valida la stessa cosa per la compagna (che non conosco), il significato della sua presenza enciclopedica dipende secondo me unicamente da quanto "dimostri" il senso del suo cammino. So di dire delle cose forse "anti-enciclopediche", ma se il curatore non si occupa dell'originalità della voce, temo che il suo servizio diventi troppo "meccanico", e relativo solo alla quantità statistica di informazioni che ruotano intorno ad un dato argomento/personaggio. Nella Rizzoli-Larousse, alla fine di ogni voce biografica c'è sempre un'impressione del curatore, come un bilancio che faccia da filo rosso alle informazioni date in precedenza. Naturalmente altri la possono pensare diversamente (il rischio che la voce diventi un saggio, etc.), e in effetti questa idea l'ho maturata solo in questi giorni, leggendo a caso voci di altri, e potrei mutarla in seguito. Ho tolto io stesso le tag da Monte. Spero di aver fatto bene (neanch'io ho la verità in tasca!). E sì, mi sembra che la voce su Cassar sia sufficientemente "matura" da non essere uno stub. Certo, alla completezza non c'è mai fine.

Quanto a Raboni, certo che conosco e amo la Canzone del danno e della beffa e gli altri Ultimi versi! Io condivido, o condividerei, il tuo discorso sull'opportunità di commenti e di una personalizzazione delle voci, se stessimo parlando di un'opera, anche enciclopedica, che ha uno specifico autore (fosse anche solo della singola voce, o di un singolo paragrafo). Ma una delle peculiarità della Wikipedia è che non ha un autore. Cioè, c'è la situazione paradossale per cui ogni virgola è attribuibile con precisione, ma il testo risultante non è di nessuno. E quindi le opinioni e i commenti qui non sono di casa, tranne ovviamente per quelli di terze persone, attribuiti con precisione. Quindi, io posso entusiasmarmi per Raboni, o chi sia, ma in un certo senso il mio entusiasmo personale non deve trapelare (se non per il fatto stesso che gli dedico tempo e impegno).

In concreto: è chiaro che su Giovanni Raboni c'è ancora da lavorare molto. Io, tu, o chi altro voglia, dovrebbe riportare analisi e giudizi di gente più seria di noi, o almeno considerata tale. In appendice all'edizione di Tutte le poesie (1951-1998) (che per fortuna non sono tutte, perché dopo il '98 ha scritto ancora) c'è una piccola antologia di testi critici. Vedrò se mi riesce di distillarne qualcosa.

Hai mai letto la Anrufung der Welt ("Invocazione del mondo") di Handke? Purtroppo in italiano esiste solo un video mal-sottoscritto di questa poesia,[10] (che inizia da "Come fui sul monte e arrivai al sole dalla nebbia della valle...") ma d'altra parte credo che nessuna voce, personale o di critici, potrebbe accrescere di molto quelle parole, Handke davvero explore les avenues du sens (penso che lo aggiungerò come coll. esterno in it.wiki). Quanto alla traduzione, l'hai fatta tu? Se sì, ho solo qualche piccolo ritocco da suggerire: le "castagne arrosto" le chiamerei "roast chestnuts", e direi "buildings" anziché "palaces", altrimenti sembra che ci fossero dei palazzi reali. Poi, quanto ai "mangiatori/ di chiodi e di stoviglie", non sono sicuro neppure in italiano. Sono saltimbanchi, come i mangiatori di spade? Se sì, li chiamerei qualcosa come "nail and crockery swallowers". Ma per queste cose sarebbe meglio sentire un inglese madrelingua... Complimenti, e grazie! I thank you for the advice, and I do agree, it may looks as if I am trying to make a point. But after my own Notability errors were pointed out to me, I realized there is a great deal of book articles that do not meet the criteria as they are currently written. By placing notability tags, I was hoping that the community could expand the articles to meet the requirements. Would it be better to use an expansion tag instead? Lazio

Ciao, spero non ci siano problemi a parlare italiano da queste parti. Premetto che fondamentalmente sono d'accordo con la tua modifica. Però ho qualche dubbio sul senso, perché il Webster riporta i nomi geografici in quanto tali. Guarda ad es. le pronunce: Latium all'inglese (e non alla latina), Lazio all'italiana. Per esempio São Paulo (main entry) lo fa pronunciare alla portoghese con tutta la nasale. Insomma non sono sicuro che scrivendo "main entry" questo dizionario intenda automaticamente "termine inglese". :) Per esempio l'American Heritage Lazio non ce l'ha nemmeno (mentre ha Latium, sia pure solo in senso storico). --Erinaceus (talk) 11:17, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

I've had an extended and fairly prickly conversation with the IP address who claims to be an expert on the Slavic language. He argues that when he started editing 4 years ago, reliable sources were not needed. It's fair to say that the lack of reliable sources comes under greater scrutiny now, but it has always been a rule. I'm not sure if the guy is clueless or trolling, but either way he's not getting it. I've pointed out to him that the scrutiny level is probably higher now than it was a few years ago, as I think that's what's confusing him. Old GURPS deletion discussions

After some digging around, I found the whole group of GURPS AFD (article for deletion) nominations from a couple of years ago. I've added pointers to these discussions to the talk pages of relevant GURPS articles which have become redirects.

What happened was this: I saw an article with some pretty substantial content made in to a redirect without seeing any discussion, so I undid the redirect and opened up discussion. Under the "Entertainer" section of the notability critera for people on Wikipedia: "Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment." So writing 7 books in 6 years, with more on the way, that have been published and sold worldwide is not making a prolific contribution?
