Hello, I'm Twsx. I noticed that in this edit to Olan Montgomery, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ~ twsx | talkcont | ~ 13:17, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop

[edit]

You have good intentions. Please don't make me block you of the disruption you are causing. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:33, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Specfically, please stop editing the article about your brother. Use the talk page to discuss your concerns. Continuing to edit war and remove material will definitely get you blocked. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:37, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am working past the anger and have given up on trying to remove the wiki. However the photo's must come down. Those photos are mine by law and I am the one who placed them on the page. I have no intention of ever editing the page again once they are removed. If you do not mind please remove them. As soon as I figure out how to rescind the permissions I gave and delete them from wiki commons I will do so.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently making disruptive edits.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  ~ ToBeFree (talk) 14:40, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone has the slightest doubt about this block being required to prevent further disruption, just have a look at the filter log. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 14:42, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have more than a slight doubt about your cruel and insensitive block. I am working past the anger in my grief for the loss of my brother Olan and the loss of the legacy I put to the wiki that was removed by one of your admin's without notice or return of the content. I have given up on trying to remove the wiki. However the photo's must come down. Those photos are mine by law and I am the one who placed them on the page. I have no intention of ever editing the page again once they are removed. You can keep your words and maintain them as you desire. If you do not mind please remove all of the photos. As soon as I figure out how to rescind the permissions I gave and delete them from wiki commons I will do so.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Gumaraid (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have requested a deletion review and I have asked that my photographs be deleted from Wiki Commons. I request to be unblocked on my own recognizance. My brother Olan died less than a week ago and I am still grieving his loss. Signing in this morning and finding wholesale changes to what I had added to his wiki over several days to memorialize him and his accomplishments was heart rending. I give my word to make no more changes until the Deletion Review is complete and restrictions are released to make constructive edits

Accept reason:

I concur with ToBeFree, below. I think the block was appropriate, but I also agree with the unblock now. Tim/Carrite is a very helpful person, and you should definitely follow his guidance. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:02, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The removal of the photos was objected to, the removal of text was objected to, the deletion review is pretty much already done as "Endorse"... If the block were removed right now, I'm afraid the first thing you would do is removing the photos from the article again, thus continuing an edit war based on a misunderstanding of the irrevocability of free licenses. I believe that an unblock appeal should contain at least one specific example for a constructive edit you intend to make, or an unconditional agreement to stop pushing the topic further. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:53, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, Gumaraid. Sorry for your loss. As nearly as I can tell, stuff came down for being a copyright violation, but there are fairly easy ways to get the same information into the biography that does not run afoul of the law (which WP follows pretty closely, as you are learning). So, rather than getting mad, let's you and me work through this together and see if we can get things to a point that satisfies you, meets the law, and accords with Wikipedia's sometimes confusing policies. You can either leave a message for me on my talk page, or if you prefer to communicate by email free of prying eyes, I can be reached at shoehutch@gmail.com. Sorry you've run into trouble with your WP editing, it can be maddening. You just need to relax and take a long view of things. Best regards, —tim /// Tim Davenport, Corvallis, OR /// Carrite (talk) 16:02, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tim - Thank you for your compassion. I will reach out to you by email. Mike Montgomery /// Gumaraid (talk) 16:23, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Gumaraid[reply]
  • The images have been deleted as a courtesy on Wikimedia Commons. I'd like to emphasize that this was likely not legally required, and done against the clear opposition of two editors on the English Wikipedia, effectively overriding the block and voiding the reason for it. I'm removing the block as it's hopefully no longer needed to prevent disruption (you got what you wanted); I expect you do discuss changes on the talk page of the article if you encounter opposition again. I'm keeping the unblock request open to let an uninvolved administrator determine whether the block was inappropriate – I believe it wasn't. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:35, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My heartless response to your concerns

[edit]

Hi Gumaraid,

now that the above request was closed and the administrative matter is resolved, I can remove the, hmm, shield around my heart. I'd like to note that there have been complaints about the block – directly at User_talk:ToBeFree#Your_block_of_User:Gumaraid and indirectly by others by not behaving as heartless as I did.

After having been understandably upset by me, I can understand that you may not like to hear this from me, and you are welcome to delete this message, with or without comment. I would like to express my condolence for the loss of your brother Olan. This may seem strange, but it was definitely not my intention to increase the grievance. By the others' messages, I hope it is clear that the community is very diverse – and while it would be perfectly understandable if my bad impression casts a shadow on the others, I'd like to request that the bad impression be restricted to those who have caused it – possibly just me. Please don't judge Wikipedia by my behavior – that's all I'm requesting. I'm open to complaints and further discussion at User talk:ToBeFree at any time.

Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:16, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

E-mailing the article

[edit]

I will e-mail you the information you were seeking from the article. Please let me know which specific version(s) or revision(s) you need.

I also want to comment that while all of the actions taken by other administrators in this matter were in accordance with our policies and official rules, I wish that the situation had been handled very differently. In particular, I wish to be on record that if I had seen the block on your account while it was in effect, I would have reversed it.

Best wishes to you and your family and this difficult time. Newyorkbrad (talk) 03:22, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your compassion. He was a good man who worked and supported a number of famous people through his art and acting. The guy in the background of the story. He gave more than he took. and what makes this whole event in our lives especially painful is that he was in recovery from the virus. He had beaten it and they had removed him from the ventilator. We were looking so forward to being able to speak with him in a few days. We have learned since that after the disease is gone it leaves behind irreversible damage and only about 20% of those on ventilators more than two weeks survive. I apologize for oversharing.

The version I need for my baseline is Olan Montgomery on 21:46, 9 April 2020‎. With this I can start over with something to share with my family.

Sincerely - Mike Montgomery Gumaraid (talk) 14:25, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've e-mailed it. Please let me know if you need anything else. Again, my condolences to you and your family on your loss. Newyorkbrad (talk) 21:28, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
