The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

[edit]

Recently you changed KIRO-TV and Interwiki linked Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I wanted to let you know I have change that Interwiki link. I just thought I would share why, so that in the future you could avoid some of the very common mistake I see all the time, when it comes the name of the LDS Church.

Per WP:The and Talk:The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the name of the LDS Church in Utah, for all articles after the 1844 "Succession Crisis", is spelled and Interwiki link as "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". Please notice that the word The is included and capitalized and is not a copyedit error.--- ARTEST4ECHO(Talk) 16:43, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit on Kingdom of Bavaria

[edit]

It was very insightful of you to notice that the Kingdom held a brief status as an Electorate in the HRE. This made me realize that this would also apply to the Kingdom of Württemberg, that also became a Kingdom on 26-12-1805. I made changes there as well. Religious affiliation of Kim Davis (county clerk)

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Kim Davis (county clerk) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. -- BullRangifer (talk) 19:19, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more constructive and stop making those changes without first seeking consensus. It's long since time for the "Discuss" phase of BRD, so please discuss in this section, with evidence/RS. If you can convince others, we'll make the change. See you there. -- BullRangifer (talk) 19:19, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:WTVA.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:WTVA.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:53, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nebraska legislature

[edit]

I'm afraid I've again had to revert your addition to Nebraska Legislature, this time as OR. You've stated "Most of its members are known to be D's or R's", and supported it with citations to candidate endorsements by parties. I'm afraid that this doesn't uphold the "Most of its members are known..." assertion.

Also, the phrasing is a bit questionable; that "Despite the legislature's formal nonpartisan status..." feels like editorializing (especially if it's not expressly stated thus by a cited reliable source). Your phrasing gives the impression that the official nonpartisan nature is only a thin disguise for partisanship-as-usual, which I think is overstating the case considerably. — Ammodramus (talk) 02:18, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've been trying to find a nice simple two para explanation of the single-list voting system in East Germany. The closest to it I found was in the intro para you contributed on the 1950 general election. There is a source cited, but it's a book, and I can't find anything online which would count as a coherent source. Some of the information turns up - again really only in passing - in German wiki - but again, as far as I can make out any sources given are not accessible online. /angle bracket/ ref name="weber" /angle bracket/ Hermann Weber: Die DDR 1945–1990. 4. Auflage, Oldenbourg, 2006, S. 32. /angle bracket/ /ref /angle bracket/

Do you by any chance have access to that book? /angle bracket/ ref /angle bracket/ Sebetsyen, Victor (2009). Revolution 1989: The Fall of the Soviet Empire. New York City: Pantheon Books. ISBN 0-375-42532-2. /angle bracket/ /ref /angle bracket/ If yes, do you by any chance have time to set up a new wiki-entry on the "East German single-list voting system"? I know it's a long shot, but just occasionally long shots get somewhere. Anyhow, thanks for thinking about it.

Percent vs percentage point

[edit]

Hi, please note that when expressing changes in percentage, or comparing two percentages, it's necessary to write "percentage point" (or just "point" on subsequent appearances or if clear the first tie). Margins and swings in election-related articles are at issue: a swing of 1% brings 40% up to 40.4% (or down to 39.6%). A swing of 1 point makes 41% or 39%. NT pollies

[edit]

Hey - I just want to apologise for calling some of your additions "garbage" when I removed them from pages like Chansey Paech today; I didn't know they were from you and would never have called them that if I'd known they were from an experienced contributor, which is really even worse of me, but all the same. Nonetheless, some of them seem to be ascribing certain values to events which I don't think an encyclopedia should, and some of them are definitely false. Victories for Labor in Sturt and Namatjira, for example, were not shocks at all, but widely foreseen, and the polls had people openly speculating about the CLP being wiped out entirely, so Katherine was not "unforeseen by any commentator or party". [1], [2] Please be a bit more careful in adding these things, and to be honest they really need citations so that they're not just puff commentary. But I hope you'll accept my apologies for my incivility in the edit summaries. Frickeg (talk) 00:19, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've left in some of your latest changes, but come on. It is clear in the article that it was a big win; we don't need another seven sentences pointing that out. And language like "seemingly daunting" and "history was against her" is unnecessary - readers can gauge that for themselves (and that's not even to mention "just a few votes more than she needed" - the margin has just been stated!!). Need for Arizona Republic article cite

Hi Hanging Curve,

In your recent edit of the Arizona Republic article, you noted that the paper didn't back the Republican presidential nominees in 1912 or 1968, but you gave no cites for this assertion. Thanks kindly for adding the cite. A very interesting election indeed, and an interesting paper too. Nice work. Your careful research and cite helped me to understand the paper a little bit better.

The article Miracle cars scam has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article mentions numerous (assumedly) living people by names and makes substantial accusations about their (allegedly) criminal behavior. It is poorly sourced and the sources that are provided do not substantiate most of the content. Substantial portions of the content seem to be running afoul of WP:EDITORIALIZING.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File source problem with File:MaryBonoGolf.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:MaryBonoGolf.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. B (talk) 19:31, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:45, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, HangingCurve. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Victorian Liberal leaders who did not become Premier

[edit]

Robert Doyle:

“Napthine and Baillieu eventually became Premiers and it meant that Doyle along with Alan Brown have been the only Liberal leaders to have never won an election.”

That is incorrect as it did not take into account, due to when it was written, non-elected Liberal Premiers Lindsay Thompson and Naphthine who were both voted out without being elected in their own right. This plus the fact that Brown neither won or lost an election as Liberal leader.

The statement was about Liberal leaders who did not become Premiers and this club recently got a new member in Matthew Guy.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Elizabeth Holmes article - "few octaves"

[edit]

Hi HangingCurve, you added to the Elizabeth Holmes article that a former colleague claimed that she had a voice actually a few octaves higher than an unusually deep baritone voice that she used in public. Do you remember if that is exactly what was written in the book, or could there have been a typo, misunderstanding or similar?

As the facts sound physiologically unlikely, I got curious and asked at the reference desk, where the general (but not unanimous) view was that an unusually deep baritone voice and a voice range of a few octaves are indeed rather unlikely for a woman. So before I add anything to the article ("[sic]" or "without further sources" or something like that--after all it's just one colleague, and I'm not sure he quite meant what is written here?!)... do you by any chance remember or could you double-check if the Wikipedia article is indeed faithful to the referenced book? Source checking

[edit]

With regards to edits like this and this, can you confirm that you have actually checked the books yourself?

You will recall that we have previously had a discussion about your contributions at WP:ANI due to you effectively falsifying sources by just copying references from other articles without reading them yourself and I noted that there would be an escalating series of blocks if this was repeated. Number 57 11:54, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but I managed to find a better source for the second edit. Hope this clears the air. HangingCurveSwing for the fence 22:30, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't. Did you actually check the books in question, or did you just copy the sources from other articles? Given the volume of sources you have allegedly read and the fact that they are identical to sources in related articles, it seems highly unlikely that you have actually checked the books. its clear that you have copied this text from the Siaka Stevens article. Number 57 22:37, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did check them, yes. The 1978 referendum, for instance, was from a book that I had previously checked out at the library. I had added that reference to the Stevens article in 2015. And I managed to find the information from the 1985 ref on Google Books. HangingCurveSwing for the fence 22:46, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:03, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Where is your source for the statement BB&T and SunTrust will operate separately? I know it's true but can't remember how to source it.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:22, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Back in 2010, you G11 deleted and salted Sanook. This doesn't actually matter now, since Carlossuarez46 already created the page as a redirect to a different topic, but I wanted to let you know that I've created the article at Sanook.com and converted Carlossuarez46's redirect to a disambiguation page. Maybe you'd want to consider removing the protection, just for the record? (I also wanted to comment on how temporary protection should probably have sufficed for notable topics subject to page-creation spam, but ten years is a long time, so these comments are probably no longer relevant.) --Paul_012 (talk) 10:36, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Contributor321. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, California State University, Fresno, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Information icon Hello. It appears your talk page is becoming quite lengthy and is in need of archiving. According to Wikipedia's user talk page guidelines; "Large talk pages become difficult to read, strain the limits of older browsers, and load slowly over slow internet connections. As a rule of thumb, archive closed discussions when a talk page exceeds 75 KB or has multiple resolved or stale discussions." - this talk page is 153.7 KB. See Help:Archiving a talk page for instructions on how to manually archive your talk page, or to arrange for automatic archiving using a bot. If you have any questions, place a {{help me}} notice on your talk page, or go to the help desk. Thank you. Contributor321 (talk) 02:24, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing at mobster's pages

[edit]

Hi. I see you've been around for a while, so I've been very puzzled over the last few days where you've been adding several unsourced statements, as well as adding tons of editorializing. Your lasted edit at Bonanno crime family is one that is quite shocking where you use language like "Like most mafiosi..." or "the strategy paid dividends" or "The family managed to keep its nose clean". I don't want to have to revert this addition, so would you be able to fix this language and remove any unsourced statements? Thanks. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 05:27, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indi

[edit]

I think putting any great emphasis on these calculations of hypothetical swings if the independent didn't finish in the top two mainly serves to confuse readers. They're almost never referenced outside of election-wonk sites/publications, I don't think most members of the public get it. I also think it's factually dubious to place any emphasis on a hypothetical Labor close run sans McGowan in a seat that's been extraordinarily safe for the Liberal Party since 1931, at an election Labor lost, in the presence of an extremely popular independent. It's exceedingly unlikely Labor would actually ever come close to winning Indi in any situation, with even really unpopular incumbents like Mirabella having routinely kicked the crap out of Labor with 2PPs (at worst) in the vicinity of 60-40 and no basis to think the electorate's become any more favourable for Labor since - I think giving weight to that hypothetical just misleads readers about the nature of the seat. The last time this was a marginal seat against Labor in any kind of reality was a decade before my elderly parents were even born. The Drover's Wife (talk) 03:25, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
