FIFA World Rankings
[edit]Hi Hhkohh, I saw you were part-way through updating the new FIFA World Rankings. Based on how long it's taken to do manually in the past, maybe you'd be interested to use my script. I put it on the Project Football Talk page a while back, so maybe it's got lost in the Archives, but here's what I've got on my page:
I've also made a script to help update the FIFA Rankings module over at Module:SportsRankings/data/FIFA_World_Rankings - https://jsfiddle.net/philipbkemp/sorhxqg2/2/. You'll need to copy the JS into the console, then type pullData(), change page, type pullData() again (repeating until you've called pullData() on each page). Then, use printData() to get all data, in both formats, displayed in the console output. These can then be copy/pasted into the data module template.
Hopefully that speeds up your process of updating the rankings list --Philk84 10:15, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2019
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2019).
Interface administrator changes
|
|
- In Special:Preferences under "Appearance" → "Advanced options", there is now an option to show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Community health initiative plans to design and build a new user reporting system to make it easier for people experiencing harassment and other forms of abuse to provide accurate information to the appropriate channel for action to be taken. Please see meta:Community health initiative/User reporting system consultation 2019 to provide your input on this idea.
- The Arbitration Committee clarified that the General 1RR prohibition for Palestine-Israel articles may only be enforced on pages with the {{ARBPIA 1RR editnotice}} edit notice.
- Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
- As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.

A great piece of news for editors of AFC leagues
[edit]All results and standings of AFC leagues are available at the AFC webpage at [1]. Yes, even the DPR Korea league [2] and the NMI league [3]. Hopefully, CAF, CONCACAF, and OFC will follow suit someday. Chanheigeorge (talk) 16:48, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Edits on OFC Champions League pages
[edit]I have given some thoughts on whether to use the Module:Section in the OFC Champions League articles (and other future articles), or whether to use another implementation method, which uses Noinclude, Onlyinclude and #section-h:, which as I demonstrated, is equivalent to the implementation by Module:Section. While I appreciated the efforts made by @Frietjes: to create the module, it does not contain any documentation or help page at all, so it can be viewed as difficult for editors to understand, implement, change and/or maintain, while the implementation using existing function calls contain well-documented pages (as I linked above) where editors can understand the code easily. And for me which have programming background, this is quite important, and I hope you and @Frietjes: will understand my viewpoint. As for the tiebreakers for the OFC competitions, it does not have any citations, so it is actually correct and totally in line with existing Wikipedia principles to remove it from the main page, perhaps even in the sub-page. Chanheigeorge (talk) 14:31, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell, Frietjes is an experienced template editor. Perhaps let her comment this first Hhkohh (talk) 14:45, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- I can assure you this is nothing personal against anybody. It is like whether an edit has citation or not, if an edit does not have a citation and cannot be reasonably verified, it is totally reasonable for another editor to remove it without considering who makes the non-cited edit. As a programmer, given two choices in implementation where one contains well-written documentations and another which contains none, it is totally reasonable to choose the former so as to facilitate edits on these pages by other editors, because we are not the only ones who are allowed to edit these pages, and who knows whether any of us are still here to edit these pages tomorrow. Chanheigeorge (talk) 15:00, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- Chanheigeorge, because I am tired and on my bed. So I will comment more details after sleeping. Good night! Hhkohh (talk) 15:03, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- Don't worry. I appreciate the efforts made by you to listen to my viewpoint and have a civilized discussion, and we can continue this when you are free. Good night! Chanheigeorge (talk) 15:06, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- Chanheigeorge, I did not see details yesterday. But after reading today, if we merged more templates into articles in the future, including UCL, UEL, ACL and so on. Then they have well-sourced tiebreaker. The section begin tag and #section-h tag will not work. How did you update some syntax? Can you give me a draft in your sub-userpage? This is the reason why I stopped merging for such UCL articles until June to see how the OCL articles goes recently.
- Also, I am fine with removing unsourced content.
- Frietjes, is it possible to write document for this new module? Thanks! Hhkohh (talk) 10:45, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hhkohh, I could, but if it's not going to be used, it should probably just be deleted. Frietjes (talk) 13:34, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
- Chanheigeorge, note that the reason for using the
<onlyinclude>...</onlyinclude>
method is so args like|showteam=
and|only_pts_played=
can be passed. however, if you don't plan to pass such args (e.g., transcluding from a team season page), then I agree there is no reason to not use the #section-h: method instead. Frietjes (talk) 13:46, 21 April 2019 (UTC)- If you want to keep the same display format in the main page, i.e., put the tiebreakers in a collapsible table, then it is certainly doable, but perhaps there has to be some change in the sections of the sub-page. Right now, the "Tiebreakers" is a sub-section of "Format". The easiest way is to put them into two different sections, one called "Format" and the next called "Tiebreakers", without one being a sub-section of the other. Then you can grab them with two separate calls to the sections of the sub-page. The second way is to put them into one section without having a sub-section, say "Format and tiebreakers", then use the tags Includeonly and Noinclude in correct places. If you really want to keep the sub-sections of the sub-page as it is now, I still think it is doable using the tags, but the code is slightly more complicated. I will write the codes in the next few days and hopefully demonstrate how it works. Chanheigeorge (talk) 15:29, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
- Chanheigeorge, it is better to keep an old display format (e.g. put the tiebreakers in a collapsible table) in main article. However, the tiebreakers is a part of format. So I think the current display format is better than your easiest way while the second way is the worst. Hhkohh (talk) 14:27, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism by NaufalHilmi
[edit]@Hhkohh: Hi, long time no conversing. How are you? I want to tell you about vandalism from NaufalHilmi29. I look up to his contributions, like in article Fernandinho (footballer, born 1991) and Ruben Torres. He changed completely the articles. For the first one I mentioned, he edited and completely change the name from Fernando Barros Bezerra Júnior, who competed in Portugal into Fernando Jose Gomes Junior who competed in Indonesia. Just look at his edit before I reverted it. I realized it when I saw the birthday said 1994 when the article's title is 1991. He also did it on Ruben Torres article. I hardly think that he'll notice the warning on his talk page. What do you think? And also he did a lot of editing about football player's height. I don't revert it because I don't really know the height exactly. How about it? Wira rhea (talk) 16:07, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – August 2019
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2019).
Interface administrator changes
|
|
- Following a request for comment, the page Wikipedia:Office actions has been changed from a policy page to an information page.
- A request for comment (permalink) is in progress regarding the administrator inactivity policy.
- Editors may now use the template {{Ds/aware}} to indicate that they are aware that discretionary sanctions are in force for a topic area, so it is unnecessary to alert them.
- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
- The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.
Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

ArbCom 2019 election voter message
[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!
