My talk page policy...

  1. Please Feel free to add comments and please click this edit link to do so. I value all feedback.
  2. Discussions are archived every time this gets too big. If you said something that got archived, just refer to which archive it's in (most recent in the last number going backwards).
  3. I will usually reply on your talk page (if such action is required) and will leave a note here in summary of points made. If a discussion is getting long (more than one or two questions or statements) then I may just post replies here.
  4. Your comment's wording will not be edited but layout may do. I may however change the headings to increase the ease of navigation.
  5. Vandalism will always be reverted however a note will be placed at the bottom and a link (to show the changes made) put.
  6. Any profanity, vulgarity or other harmful text will be editted out immediately using the <vulgarity /> tag or, in extreme cases, it deleted and a link put to the version with the harmful text included.
  7. Please note that my timezone is GMT, and that I still am in school, (summer!) so please excuse my brushing off/shouting/screaming/grumpiness/anger/annoyance at anti-social hours.
  8. If your old comment was left here was in relation to Admin Coaching, it may have been archived at User talk:HighwayCello/Archive/15, to cut down the load here.

Please sign and date comments using 4 tildes (~~~~). If you do not, I will for you, using the edit history, and will leave a message on your talk page saying "Always sign and date talk page entries". Thank you for listening.

Lar and Petros AC[edit]

  • Thanks for the reminder... MyNameIsNotBob has decided he's gotten what he wanted. So I've updated accordingly. Theoretically Petros471 and I are ready for new assignments... I may want to take a bit of a break from coaching and try to get caught up on some other matters I am behind on though... ++Lar: t/c 21:56, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not really able to take on anyone else. I've now just managed to get myself into a position (now you've taken over coordinating) that I don't have to do anything on Wikipedia. I'll probably just be dropping in occasionally to block the odd vandal and close an afd discussion, but I don't want to commit to anything at the moment. Petros471 22:17, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Keep me on the list as inactive for now. Unless I find I have to leave Wikipedia fully (not the case at the moment, but could happen depending on what I end up doing in my life) I'd still like to help out with the program. Petros471 22:24, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, just treated them in same way as anyone else. Petros471 22:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would need another partner to be able to take a new coachee on... pretty heads down with other stuff. SO mark me inactive for now too i guess. ++Lar: t/c 17:29, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Admin coaching[edit]

Yeah, I'm okay to receive a trainee now. Just tell me when I've been assigned, and I'll be ready to go. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 22:15, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I don't really care. It looks like all the free admins are fairly new as well, but again, no preference either way. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 22:20, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Esperanza Admin coaching - October 29 - New recruits[edit]

I'd love to recieve a trainee! I'll become a permanent helper at Admin Coaching if it's acceptable that I'm not an admin and I've been around for less than a year. • I'm sorry for the confusion. If you look in the requests, you'll see a unsigned comment by me. It was actually signed, but my the four tildes must of been placed in the volunteers. I'm no admin, but I know enough about wikipedia to assist a less knowledgable trainee, but, I actually requested a coach myself, and I'm not sure if I could help enough. Sorry about the mess. I hope I can help coach someone someday :). --andrewI20Talk 03:27, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Admin coaching - October 29[edit]

Hi Highway,

Yes, I'm ready for a new trainee. I had let Petros know I was ready for a new one, but never got a response; the same thing happened previously. From what I gather above, you're taking over the coordination. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 06:44, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza User Page Award[edit]

Hi HighwayCello! You've signed up to be a judge for the Esperanza User Page Award! You'll have three user pages to examine. The user pages you get coincide with your signup number. So if you signed up to be a judge in spot 1 than you will get nominations 1-3. Pick your favorite one, and list it in the finalist section. After all 5 judges have chosen a finalist it's time to award them 1-10 points in the four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

Please remember to include Subpages in your judging criteria. See the Scores section on this page for additional information on your job as a judge.

Keep in mind that your scores are confidential! Email Celestianpower with your scores and final picks. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced! Thanks. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 09:42, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

my template headers[edit]

Thank you for bringing to my attention some possible problems with the templates. If you have further concerns about them, leaving comments on their respective talk pages is the usual problem. You can also provide constructive criticism at {{PokePage}} or at the PCP talk page - which i see that you have. It seems from your edit comments that you found PAGENAME particularly inappropriate. I'll address the other issues at the talk page. This was a first test run, following the directions laid out at the main template page. The PAGENAME issue was actually being addressed as you were removing the templates. The problem was with {{PokeVideoGamesIntro}}. I'm in the middle of working on a solution, even while you were removing the headers. I ask that you be civil and refrain from deragotory, unconstructive statements like "train wreck" and "mess". With more feedback before i had started this, perhaps problems like these could have avoided. I will ask that you attempt to refrain from outright removals of the templates for the time being. I hope you can show the respect mandated by wikipedia and help to improve upon these templates as opposed to removals. If you are dead st against them, continue to make your case at the PCP talk page, because as of now i have only garnished support for them and you are essentially going against consensus. -Zappernapper 17:20, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! I was actually considering signing up, so I'll be glad to be on the list. :) By the way, I'm not sure if the discussions that got moved to the Admin Coaching main page are meant to be there, but they make the programs page really long, since everything on the Admin Coaching page is transcluded onto there. Potential restructuring[edit]

Hey there. There's an important debate occuring at the WP:PCP talk page about taking down and redirecting the majority of the 493 Pokemon creature articles, and I think you'll need to make some comments. This could mean the destruction of the Bulbasaur and Torchic FAs that I think you did a lot of work on, and I wouldn't know about how you feel about that, but maybe all this is for the best. Hope we can upgrade the project throrugh this. Best, Erik Jensen (I appreciate talk!) 19:04, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HighwayCello,

All I was originally asking for was a confirmation that you would abide by the "gentleman's agreement" that was recommended the archives of WT:DYK that

  • The updater should not choose their own nominations at all
    • A second thing that wasn't discussed, but which I feel follows is that one should not select nominations by WikiProjects with which one is involved or close Wikipedian associates, should there be an objection or query raised about that nomination. As such, having relaunched WP:EURO and Portal:Eurovision and encouraged Eurovision people to participate in DYK, I have only chosen the Eurovision nominations of my wikiproject team-mates if there are no objections. On the few occasions that there were objections against the Eurovision, I have abstained from choosing them, despite my personal support for the nominations. In your case that would correspond to only picking Pokemon and Nintendo items of other users and only if there were no dissent.
  1. I have to reiterate that the only reason I asked you these questions was that DYK is traditionally a very sleepy corner of Wikipedia, so with your emotional reaction to your suggestions being declined, I felt it necessary to ask you to reaffirm your commitment to the "gentleman's agreement". I was hoping that it was quite clear from the wording of my original comment that my original opposition was very conditional, and that I would withdraw it were you to clarify your commitment to the agreement, in much the same was as an FAC oppose, so it is unfortunate that your RfA has taken a major turn for the worse due to this. In any case, I am very sure that you are mistaken that Samir and ALoan have self-selected, especially as ALoan has only begun updating in the last fortnight, and as you make noted above, you have not been at DYK for a substantial amount of time. In any case, as my request for confirmation has been fulfilled, I have withdrawn my objection to your candidacy as I had implied and promised. I'm sorry for what has happened to your RfA. Regards, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 23:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

a piece of advice[edit]

Its not from me, actually. Its from a very good editor, Ambuj Saxena. He offered me some advice on my last ER that really changed my perspective on communicating in tense situations. I pass this on to you:

As others have said above, you need to work on the time you take to react to situations. Often, as time goes by, we start seeing the situations differently; in a completely different perspective. From my experience, I can tell that in most cases (as much as I have seen), you tried to do the right thing, without giving a gestation period to your actions. Reacting too quickly is often seen as agression, and was the primary reason why your first RfA failed. I too, reacted too quickly to SV's edits, and as a result missed the fact that the FAC in question had already closed. The episode that followed is very well known to you. From what I see, you have the tell-tale signs of becoming a rouge admin, who tries to do the right thing without thinking of the consequences. But my experience tells that many people see it as a negative quality, and this may result in their opposition to your RfA. The trouble is that 100 cases of civility can't be cited to back you, and even if someone finds one hint of incivility against you, it would be used against you. As a completely independent, and equally important issue, I find that you haven't mentioned what kind of admin you are planning to be. Looking at your contributions, I found little janitorial work, and you may need to work on that too. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 14:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Time to judge the finalists![edit]

Hello, HighwayCello. This is a quick message to remind you that all 5 finalists for the Esperanza User Page Award have been chosen. You now need to judge those 5 pages, awarding each one 1-10 points for attractiveness, usefulness, interesting-ness, general niceness and quality of subpages. Refer to the Scores section at the project page if you are unsure of how to score.

Once you have scored the 5 pages, email Celestianpower using the specified format. As soon as all the scores have been tallied, a winner will be announced. Thanks. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 08:55, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your RfA[edit]

Hi HC, I've changed my !vote after thinking about your comments. Sorry about that, but what with the concerns raised by some users, I'd rather exercise caution. Just make sure you don't get too personally involved with articles as an administrator, if this RfA succeeds.

On another note, great work with admin coaching - it's really been revived all over again!

Take care, riana_dzasta 08:56, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Questions[edit]

Hi again! Per your request, I'll leave questions here, which actually leads me to a question, hehe; why would you want users to bring RfA discussion to your talk page rather than keeping it in a centralised viewable location on the RfA page where users are encouraged to submit questions for optional response by the candidate? hoopydinkConas tá tú? 15:12, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, but I actually thought that the question was quite relevent, as you violated Wikipedia policy on the RfA itself (unknowingly, it seems) and actively removed content pertinent to your RfA and which users have commented on as part of their rationale. As such, the question was indeed appropriate by your own language; admin behaviour and views on policy. Also, your past actions are important as well, as one's actions largely define one's character and abilities. Furthermore, if you agree that this question is relevant to your RfA, I'd ask you to paste it onto the actual page or just drop me a line with your opinion and I'll paste it if you concur. Thanks for your quick response! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 15:28, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I'm not sure I fully understand the reference, but I'll go ahead and paste it. Cheers hoopydinkConas tá tú?
I've gone ahead and pasted it, but left out your last bit about the jedi thing... I'm assuming that was your response to me, not your answer, but feel free to do whatever you want with it ;) hoopydinkConas tá tú? 15:54, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all! First, RfA actually isn't a vote. It's a bit difficult for me to give you any specific points to work on. My issue is in regards to how you view adminship and Wikipedia, in general. I feel that in order for one to be trusted with extra responsibilities, one must have the best interests in the project at the forefront of one's mind, regardless of any personal biases. Also, I believe that one must never use the buttons to further one's own ambitions. Lastly, I feel that one needs a demeanour and approach that I don't think you possess. While I think it's great that each person approaches Wikipedia in his/her own different way, especially as it's a purely voluntary effort, I don't feel that your approach suits you for being an administrator. Sorry if this is a bit vauge, so feel free to follow up with more specifics, and I'd be happy to try to elaborate. As an aside, unrelated to RfA, I noticed that you crossed out my comments in regards to the admin coaching, but I haven't yet received any confirmation of new participation. Thanks hoopydinkConas tá tú? 03:36, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charizard problems[edit]

Hello. It seems I'm a new arrival on a much-discussed topic, so I apologise if I've been a little slow in getting up to speed. It seems that there are difficulties arising from a difference of opinion about what constitutes "out-universe" wording. In the interests of furthering understanding, would it be possible to ask you to explain what you consider needs improving in the Characteristics section, and what is required in order for a section to be "out-universe"? Thank you for reading this. -- Grgcox 20:31, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry if I've irritated you with my edits to the Charizard page. You haven't yet replied to the comments I've made, but you have reverted the edits I've made almost immediately. Is this a sign that you don't welcome my attempts to contribute to this article? It's difficult to know what you think unless you tell me. -- Grgcox 12:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your message. There's no need to rush - please rest if you need to! -- Grgcox 13:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Threads on the Admin coaching page[edit]

When I posted comments to everyone's posts on the admin coaching page, I contacted everyone of them with a note that said "you've got mail" and directed them to the admin coaching page. I've just received a message from one of them that he couldn't find my reply to his post there, and upon checking discovered that you have been removing entries as part of standard operating operating procedure. There's nothing wrong with that, except that I'm going to get a flood of emails from people wondering where their replies are. I've added a simple system to the Admin coaching page to accomodate the threads. I've restored all threads, using (assigned) to mark them. No need to move entries from the numerical list to any other section on the page, as new entries will naturally be posted as new headings at the bottom of the page. Simply mark entries (assigned) to keep track. This system should also make it easier to archive as well, because you won't need to move entries to another page every time you make an assignment. Simply archive the page the same way normal talk pages are archived when they become too long. I look forward to your reply.  The Transhumanist   06:51, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Esperanza Admin coaching[edit]

Sorry for the delay bud I've been away on a bit of a holiday (still managed to find my way to a PC at times however!)

Re admin coaching, Ive been chatting with User:Riana dzasta for some time about it (last discussion with her can be seen here... so if okay may I "assign myself" to her?

Hopefully that's not queue jumping or anything? Plan to start on Wednesday... is that all okay?

Thanks for your patience too! Glen 06:22, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks mate. I believe my aspiring sysop-to-be has already moved us into the active. A partner may be is a great idea, as a) Much as I believe I have all the answers Im well aware thats a bunch of the proverbial ass, and b) Im a coaching virgin so if there's a person available who perhaps has done it before may save a bit of the ol' trial and error (like weeks! :)
How would I be best to coerce some poor soul into joining my happy throng? Thanks again Glen 09:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If thats the case then please save yourself the bother. Riana is as close as an ideal pairing as anyone could ever have so it'll be smooth sailing just the two of us - thanks for the offer. And yes, just "!voted" in your RfA, so consider it a little less rocky now :) Good luck my friend - buzz me anytime if I can assist too. Glen 10:12, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

zOMG![edit]

Is that right... you've got an RfA active as I type??? Glen 10:01, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Per your coaching inquiry[edit]

Getting sort of passive coaching lately, but I've got pretty austere coaches (of which I felt lucky to get, sort of like being assigned Thor and Aphrodite as coaches). I try not to bother them unless I get into serious stuff. I'm feeling good about where I am, but not enough controversy under my belt. Kinda quiet in the history cluster. No one's ever really given me direct feedback on my body of work, which I kinda would like. Is that an WP:ER? BusterD 13:03, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Admin coaching / Virtual classroom[edit]

Okay, I've got everything set up for my two students. I've been inviting some of the most prolific and talented editors of Wikipedia to participate, and some very useful advice has already been posted. The Virtual classroom has grown to a scale at which it can accomodate many more students, and many more coaches. Feel free to send as many of each there as you like, and you are most welcome to come join in too. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist   16:18, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good show[edit]

Hey Highway, let me be the first to congratulate you on a strong showing during your RfA. And yes, you still deserve congratulations, even though it didn't make it! Hope all is well, -- Natalya 23:53, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not be disappointed. You are highly valued around here. Personally, I think you're a true asset to the goals of the project. -- Samir धर्म 00:13, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Highway, I'm so sorry to see that your RfA failed. I know that it doesn't mean much now, but you're a wonderful wikipedian, and a great person, and, as Samir says, you are highly valued. As I say, I know it doesn't mean much now, but it's true. Keep strong. Thε Halo Θ 00:37, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree. Actually, you were only about 10 votes away. That is, if 10 "oppose votes" had voted "support" instead, the tally would have been 60/20 which would have met the requisite 75%. Given that at least 10 votes focused on the tone of your RFA comments, I think that you are very close. I would discount the suggestion of waiting 9 months. I almost think it was deliberately put out there as bait to see if it would trigger a negative reaction from you. Unfortunately, it did. I think another RFA in 3 months would likely succeed. Continue being civil and argue more circumspectly in your next RFA. I would have switched my vote on this one if it would have changed the outcome but it became evident that it wouldn't so I left it as "oppose". I look forward to supporting you in your next RFA. --Richard 01:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter, Issue 7, November 2006[edit]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 007 – November 2006

Issue of the Month

Again, the issue of the month is inline citations. A Day in the Life, A Hard Day's Night (song), and Get Back have all been defeatured, as they failed to satisfy criterion 1(c) of What is a featured article?, and other song FAs are due for the chopping block. Inline citations are an important aspect of articles—they ensure verifiability and reliability, and they remove original research. Additionally, they give readers the option to read the original source material and view it within context.

Basically:

  1. All direct quotations attributed to Beatles members pooled from interviews need full inline citations.
  2. All critical comments about songs or albums need full inline citations to notable music critics, magazines opinions, or reviews, as opposed to being merely comments by Wikipedians.
  3. Inline citations need: author name, article name, publication date, and name of publication. Such info is still preferable even if quoting from an interview posted upon a website; when this is the case, place the URL link at the end of the citation with the date it was last accessed. (This will help editors retrieve the page using the Wayback Machine, should the link go dead in the future.)
Beatles News
  • The Beatles are due to release a soundtrack album, LOVE, at the end of November, as a companion to their Cirque du Soleil adaptation of the same name. It will feature remastered and remixed versions of their previously released songs, including some new medleys.
  • Paul's getting a divorce. Pain, arguing, and fighting abound.
Project News
  • The Wings tours are really nicely documented now (see Category:Wings tours), but Category:The Beatles tours is almost empty. Kingboyk and the rest of us would love to see (and read) articles on each Beatles tour, including the pre-fame tours of the UK—and the Hamburg trips, of course!
  • The hottest Project page this month has been Paul McCartney, involved in the Featured Article drive, as mentioned above.
Member News
  • Our project members are too modest to report any awards they may have given or received.
From the Editors

Wherever possible, editors should help to trim down on list-like prose within Beatles articles. They should convert list-like sections into fluent, cohesive prose which ties an article's sections together. Lists make articles disjointed, awkward, and difficult to read.

Be sure to take part in the Featured Article drive, and don't forget those inline citations!

If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 008 – December 2006). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Interview for Wikipedia Weekly?[edit]

Hi!

You may or may not be aware of the Wikipedia Weekly podcast, which is now approaching its eighth weekly episode, on which I'm a regular presenter. This episode, we'd like to cover the Esperanza dispute now that the dust has had time to settle, and would very much like for you to come on the show to talk to us about it. We'll also be inviting a few other representatives of Esperanza, and User:Robth to provide an opposing view.

All that would be required are a microphone, a reasonably fast internet connection, and a free copy of Skype. We'll likely be recording at around 1500 UTC on Saturday, although feel free to suggest an alternative time if this wouldn't suit you. You can also join us in #wikipediaweekly on FreeNode prior to the podcast. Thanks for your time, and I hope you can join us on the weekend. :) Daveydweeb (chat/review!) 00:53, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter Issue 8, December 2006[edit]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 008 – December 2006

Issue of the Month

Wikipedia's standards are improving all the time, with the result that many articles in The Beatles Wikiproject are being nominated for review of their FA and GA status - and many are losing that accolade. It is difficult, with such a large number of articles and the ease with which editors may make changes which are detrimental, to maintain the standard of articles, let alone improve them. As ever, members efforts are both appreciated and needed to keep the Project on course.

Beatles News
  • A Beatles compilation called "Love", featuring tracks remastered by George Martin (with his son Giles), has been released and has made number 1 in Canada.
  • The impending divorce between Paul McCartney and the former Heather Mills continues to make the pages in the tabloid press in the UK.
Project News
  • The hottest Project page this month has been Paul McCartney (see above and below).
Member News
From the Editors

If one is to be mercenary about the subject, it should be noted that Paul McCartney is going to be more noteworthy than usual in the near future as his divorce case comes to court. In that case it is great to note that a small group of Project Members (plus another individual who does not feel compelled to register himself despite important contributions) have worked very hard, and in an atmosphere of good humour, to take the McCartney piece to a succesful Good Article nomination. Perhaps this is the method to use for future articles, a small dedicated team concentrating on one subject at a time. Of course, all members are invited to join any existing group or even go about forming their own. Please note any such action in the Project Log.

If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Congratulations, Terran[edit]

Congratulations on Torchic being THE Featured Article of the Day for 23 December 2006! I knew it would get there eventually, but I didn't expect it to be featured on the Main Page so quickly. Let us hope that this will be the beginning of a bright future for Pokémon next year, and, to a somewhat smaller extent, the Pokémon Collaborative Project. Once again, congratulations! As a frequent editor of the article, you, as well as every other Wikipedian who has done good to the article, have certainly earned this recognition (and something I doubt any Descent (computer game) article would get). -- Altiris Exeunt 02:12, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Torchic[edit]

congrats on finally getting it up to snuff! I assumed you were the one who had been working on it the most because of the last FAC you tried for. I was checking some of your refs (the Hasbro recall was interesting) and you make an analytical claim about them in the real world, noting their aesthetic appeal, but the claims are reffed with serebii epiguides.

Like major Fire-types before it, such as Charmander,[47] Torchic's popularity is partially due to its aesthetic appeal. Torchic have been promoted in this way in the Pokémon anime, where characters have shown a liking towards it because of its attractiveness.[30][48]

This is in the "other media" section, first paragraph. -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria 17:11, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help[edit]

I noticed that you were instrumental in bringing a recent article to FA status. I have been trying to get the Ohio Wesleyan University article to FA status. One of the critical areas for the article that remains an issue is copyediting and prose. I was wondering if you might be willing to help me in this area? I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you. Hi Highway. Thanks so much for your response (Nov 2, 2006) to my coaching request. You may have already seen that I'm not currently very active (maybe two edits in three months). I'm certainly still interested in coaching. And I wonder if that can happen at a slow pace, since I won't have much time until May('ish). The question of capitalising of the letter "t" in The of The Beatles has been raised again. It appears that UK style references (here and here) also maintains that the letter should be in lower case. If the Project is to be appear professional then it may have to change the format. Polite discussion is invited at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject The Beatles/Policy. If possible, please provide sources/references to support your position.

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter, Issue 10, February 2007[edit]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 010 – February 2007

Beatles News
  • George Harrison's handwritten lyrics to the song While My Guitar Gently Weeps have fetched $300,000 (£152,552) in a Scottsdale (Arizona, United States) memorabilia auction (15 January). It contained lines omitted from the final version of the song. Specifically :
I look from the wings at the play you are staging
While my guitar gently weeps
As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging
Still my guitar gently weeps

On the reverse of the page appears the lyrics to Hey Jude in the hand of Mal Evans.

Project News
  • The Project lead article (The Beatles, for those not paying attention) has had its Good Article status reviewed, and the consensus was 'keep'. The efforts of User:Andreasegde in supplying the requested citations, and other editors in helping with general editing, and the strength of arguments for retaining the grade sufficiently impressed the reviewers.
  • After a great deal of work Paul McCartney was promoted as a Featured Article candidate. Unfortunately it failed to succeed. Among other comments, including the correct length of dash (or hyphen), from reviewers was that the article was too long and also that it needed further information included in some of the sections(!?) The promotor, and driving force behind the insertion of a great many references, citations and facts (and the remover of unwanted text, and splitter of information into daughter articles), Andreasegde vigorously argued the case for promotion but was unsuccessful.
  • Mimi Smith was successfully nominated for WP:Good article status. The major editor to whom accolades should be directed is... Andreasegde.
The Beatles' Influence on Recording Music by Apepper and Wings 1973 UK Tour by Danthemankhan.
  • The hottest Project page this month was possibly, despite the Article Status related issues regarding both The Beatles and Paul McCartney mentioned above, the third attempt to delete The Beatles trivia in less than a year. As was the case for the second attempt at AfD the result, after an energetic discourse, was keep but with a suggestion that the article be retitled to reduce the incidence of deletion requests. Editors are invited to discuss possible new titles, and/or the need for same, at Talk:The Beatles trivia.
  • Other Project news - Lar did a bit of a purge of the subscription list during last month's newsletter delivery. Some folks were kept (and are at the active list), some who clearly are not active on wikipedia at all were removed with a "you've been removed" message left (and are at the inactive list), and some folks who were less active but not as clearly completely inactive were given a "this may be your last newsletter" message (and are at the possibly inactive list). A more nuanced subscription list is now here (in several subpages as outlined above), and anyone who wants to tweak their status (moving one's self back is a clear cut sign that we should deliver the newsletter to you!) should feel free. Please respect the rather spartan formatting though, this list is used by WP:AWB currently, and may be used by other automation in future.
Issue of the Month

Hottest issue or concern for this month is the perennial matter of Project articles losing their Good or Featured Article status. The main Project page now includes a status board that gives the current ratings of some of the more important articles. Let's make sure the core articles (The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr) reach or retain Good Article status, if not Featured Article. If you are aware of another major article whose status is at risk, add it to the board.

Issue of last Month

Since there has been no response in the matter of the use of lowercase for the initial letter of the when applied with Beatles from the opponents, it is likely that the case for using lowercase only will be adopted as Project policy by default. User:LessHeard vanU will draw up a recommendation and submit it to the Policy talkpage in a few days.

Pokeballicon.gif[edit]

Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I notice that you have two user subpages which use Image:Pokeballicon.gif:

Pokeballicon.gif is now obsolete and it is recommended that Image:Poké Ball icon.svg be used instead. So, I'm wondering: what is the purpose of those two pages? Are they kept for historical interest, or are they personal sandboxes, or what? Please let me know so that I know if it's appropriate to change the instances of Pokeballicon.gif on these pages to the SVG version. —Remember the dot (t) 06:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have so many! How does one go about earning one? Or a few? --Floramage! 17:16, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Dilexia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Torchic FAR[edit]

Torchic has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:57, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter, Issue 11, March 2007[edit]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 011 – March 2007

Beatles News
  • On February 5, 2007, the Beatles' Apple Corps and Apple, Inc. (Apple Computer) announced a settlement of their latest trademark dispute involving use of the Apple trademark on the iTunes Music Store. In May of 2006, the High Court ruled in favor of Apple, but Neil Aspinall, manager of Apple Corps, vowed to appeal. Evidently, in the intervening months, the two companies negotiated a settlement. The settlement is discussed in this AP story. For background on the case, see Apple Corps v. Apple Computer. For fans, this may mean that Beatle music will be available someday on iTunes. Despite rumors of a February 2007 release, the material is still unavailalble.
Project News
  • There were no Project article adoptions for the month of February.
  • Project Policy has now been altered to reflect that the use of lowercase for the letter "t" of the word "the" in the Beatles is now considered the correct rendition.
Member News
  • New members to the project since the last issue include (although the first is a long time contributor who apparently has only just found the Participants section);
Tvoz
Freshacconci
Liamshaw
John Cardinal
Mezlo
ErleGrey
Captain Waters
Hey jude, don't let me down
Issue of the Month

See below. There is genuine concern that the Newsletter is getting stale in terms of content and variety, and that the same individuals are featured each month. Furthermore, lack of "news" is hindering the timely distribution as the editors wait for something to report. All Project editors are encouraged to give their news, suggestions and thoughts to keep the 'Letter vital and interesting. If making direct contributions do not appeal, please give a mention on the Newsletter talkpage and it will be incorporated!

From the Editors

Help is needed for the job of putting future Newsletters together. The present incumbent is finding it difficult to reflect the breadth of the Project, focusing on much the same individuals and articles each month, and has decided to beg for contributions from other individuals. Interested persons need only start working on next months issue to qualify. It really is that simple!

If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Revived discussion concerning fair use in portals[edit]

I am contacting everyone who participated in the discussion that became inactive in December. Due to the length of the previous discussion, I have proposed a new amendment and you like you to weigh in so that we may actually have a consensus on this matter as it doesn't seem there exists one either way. -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria

Hi!,

I just realised that you review the articles for GA status, regarding music topics, and am wondering what you think of the article concerned. I hope to bring it up to GA status and go from there :-).

If there are any problems, could you if possible please list them?.

Cheers!

News Time[edit]

WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter
Issue 012 – April 2007

Beatles News
  • On Friday 30th March, a deranged fan was held after attempting to force his way into Paul McCartney's mansion. See here for more details.
  • Apple Corps continues to make news, after the recent settlement with Apple Computer over the use of the Apple trademark. On April 10th, the company announced that long-time chief executive Neil Aspinall had stepped down and had been replaced by American Jeff Jones. It was also announced that another long term dispute, this time with EMI over royalties, had been amicably settled prior to Aspinall's departure.[1][2]
Project News
  • The article "Jeff Jones (music industry executive)" suddenly becomes of top importance in the Apple sphere of Beatledom. User:Kingboyk has created a stub on the man, but the article needs urgent beefing up (including basic biographical data such as date and place of birth) and, if possible, a photograph of the new Apple chief executive.
  • With the debate over "the Beatles" vs "The Beatles" continuing to cause ill feeling and a number of resignations from the project from advocates on both sides, Kingboyk attempted to diffuse the situation by blanking the Project Policy page and tagging it as {{historical}}. Although this unilateral action hasn't been reverted as of the time of writing, the reaction was mixed, with two members rejoining the project and others stating their disagreement. With the issue still not resolved, the page was sent to Miscellany for Deletion, for the wider community (and WikiProject The Beatles members) to consider the issue.
Member News
  • The membership list has been trimmed, with inactive members listed seperately to help gauge the status of the project. If you've been incorrectly listed as inactive, please don't be offended - just move yourself back to the main list.

Thanks for uploading Image:Mewtwomelee.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive[edit]

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 23:23, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are free to edit the content of Pokémon in other media during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Baby Pokémon, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Baby Pokémon has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Baby Pokémon, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. GA Sweeps invitation[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive[edit]

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on Super Smash Bros. Brawl/Archive 2 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orphaned non-free image File:Croconaw screen.png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Croconaw screen.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:12, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Croconaw screen.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Croconaw screen.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
