A tag has been placed on State bank of india officers association, Chandigarh Circle, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. CobaltBlueTony 06:12, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - CobaltBlueTony 06:12, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Logosbioa.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Logosbioa.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:07, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

AfD Nomination: Mattaur

[edit]

I've nominated the article Mattaur for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Mattaur satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mattaur. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Mattaur during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. Citicat 17:50, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Mattaur. The notices and comments are needed to establish community consensus about the status of an article, and removing them is considered vandalism. If you oppose the deletion of an article, you may comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Citicat 18:14, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not Personal

[edit]

Please note that a nomination for deletion is only a discussion - the pages will not be deleted unless a consensus can be reached - neither I nor anyone else have the right to delete any pages by myslef. Citicat 18:22, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pakhawaj.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

AfD nomination of Kumbra Chonk

[edit]

An editor has nominated Kumbra Chonk, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kumbra Chonk and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Over Masturbation

[edit]

The article Over Masturbation has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 21:56, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Html vs Dhtml, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Standard Equipments Used In Carrom. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.carrom.org/icf/?subcat=20 in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Standard Equipments Used In Carrom with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Standard Equipments Used In Carrom with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. After you do so, you should place a {{hangon}} tag on the article page and leave a note at Talk:Standard Equipments Used In Carrom saying you have done so. An administrator will review the new content before taking action.

It is also important that all Wikipedia articles have an encyclopedic tone and follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Arkyan • (talk) 15:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Also, please do not remove the deletion tags from the article - this will not close the discussion and only causes the problem that interested editors will be unaware of its nomination. If you disagree with the rationale behind deleting this article, please comment on the deletion disucssion, but don't remove the tags. Arkyan • (talk) 15:21, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Standard Equipments Of Carrom

[edit]

I'm not quite sure if you're certain how copyrights work. You may have taken the information from the other Web site, but the international federation still owns the copyright to the rules regardless of where it has been reprinted. Unless we have permission to reprint the rules from the original copyright owner or the copyright owner releases the information under the GFDL or into the public domain, then Wikipedia cannot include it in the encyclopedia. If we do, it opens up WikiMedia to lawsuits or other legal action. Please see WP:COPY for more information on how it works. I hope this clears things up a bit. Caknuck 14:12, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, reprinting the carrom laws here is not fit for the encyclopedia. If you check out WP:NOT, you see that "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information", including instruction manuals. This includes rulebooks for game such as carrom. Carrom's article should include a brief overview of the rules, which is sufficient for Wikipedia. Let me know if you have any further questions. Caknuck 19:48, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad I could help. Feel free to send me a message if you have any other questions or need some help. Cheers, Caknuck 19:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You might also want to look at billiards articles like nine-ball and eight-ball for an example of how to summarize rules without duplicating them completely and violating copyright. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 21:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hpt, I was able to view the article you mentioned without any problems. (I'm using the English version of IE 6 on Win XP.) There's two things that immediately come to mind that would explain why your browser is crashing:

  1. You have a corrupted version of the page in your browser cache and/or history. Try clearing these & viewing the page again.
  2. Your browser cannot render .svg graphics files. Mangal Pandey: The Rising has two small .svg graphics on it, so if you're using an older browser version, that may be the cause of your troubles.

Let me know if you experience any other problems. Caknuck 17:00, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The only other thing I can think of is to try to purge the server cache of the page. You should be able to do this by following this link. See WP:PURGE for more information. If you still have problems, then you may want to post a report at WP:VPT. Good luck, Caknuck 19:06, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hpt, it looks like the editor that asked for clarification wants you to explain two things:

  1. What Gurinder and Balwinder Singh did to organize the state tournaments.
  2. What "Sector 70" means. (Readers from outside of India may not understand the context of "Sector" in Punjab.) You may want to simplify if to "...and is situated in Mohali."

I hope this clears things up. Let me know if you have any other questions. Caknuck 07:01, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. Hpt_lucky, when I (and many but not all other editors) use the {{clarifyme}} tag, I usually put an HTML comment note immediately after it (visible in the page source code) explaining what needs to be clarified. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 21:08, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:02, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! A stub template or category which you created has been nominated for renaming or deletion at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type most likely doesn't meet Wikipedia requirements for a stub type, through failure to meet standards relating to the name, scope, current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Fair use rationale for Image:Kaafila - The Movie.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Kaafila - The Movie.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. utcursch | talk 10:55, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Ghotra

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Happy Ghotra requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Springnuts 13:07, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Program Coding

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Program Coding, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Program Coding. greenrd 02:20, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Rashmi Kumari, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://punjabcarrom.googlepages.com/rashmikumari. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Carrom Terminology, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Carrom Terminology has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Carrom Terminology, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Carrom

[edit]

I have replied to you at length, at User talk:SMcCandlish#Carrom, in a hopefully helpful manner. In looking over your talk page here, you seem to be having trouble with Wikipedia's copyright policy and notability guidelines. You should probably read these in detail. That, and I think that working to improve the carom article would be more productive for you than creating more miniature stub articles on carrom equipment, carrom players below the world champion level, and carrom rules. I have salvaged as much content from the articles that have been targeted for deltion (for reasons other than copyright violation), and merged them into larger articles. I even had Carrom Dron Award temporarily undeleted so that I could merge the material into the article on the organization that gives out this award, and merged all of the surviving mini-articles about equipment and rules into the main carrom article, as those would almost certainly have been deleted at WP:AFD. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 21:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Federazione Italiana Carrom requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay.

Phlegm Rooster (talk) 21:13, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS: As you can see, the individual national carrom association articles are not going over well - one is at WP:AFD and the rest were WP:PRODed and are now tagged for merging because I got to them just in time to keep them from being deleted. As I suggested on my talk page, this material should be merged into the International Carrom Federation article, otherwise much of it will simply be lost. There does not need to be a separate article for any of the national affiliates, with the possible exception of the All-India one (and even then it should only be separate if the ICF article will be too long with the All-India material included. See WP:SUMMARY for ideas on how to break articles out from a large one into a smaller main one and one or more sub-articles on more specific topics). — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 00:49, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as the Carrom#Rules and regulations subsections recently added, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://pscamohali.googlepages.com/lawsofcarrom%28main%29, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Carrom and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Carrom with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Carrom.

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at Talk:Carrom/Temp. Leave a note at Talk:Carrom saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing!

Hpt, you can't just copy-paste an organization's rulebook. It's illegal. Neither you nor Wikipedia own the copyright to that material. Furthermore, the material is not appropriate for Wikipedia to begin with. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a collection of incredibly detailed rules of games. See WP:NOT#HOWTO for what Wikipedia is and is not, and what that means. See also five-pins for an example of how to summarize the complicated rules of a complicated game in an encyclopedic fashion. The entire carrom article really shouldn't be more than maybe twice the length of the five-pins article at most (twice, because it needs room for historical discussion, variants, etc.) The purpose of the article is to give readers around the world an overview, not detailed instruction or a rulebook, on the game, its nature, and how it is played. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 09:00, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Software Testing Tools requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. The article Chaudary Lakhi Singh has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
