Help please![edit]

Hello Hussein Allam, I am a journalist at The National newspaper in Abu Dhabi (www.thenational.ae), we circulate throughout the Middle East.

I noticed your name on the list of Arab Wikipedians and wonder if you would be interested in talking to me for an article.

It is about the recently proposed changes to the Wikipedia editing rules (http://www.journal-online.co.uk/article/5405-wikipedia-proposes-moderatorapproved-editing).

If you are interested in talking to me, please email me on: ogood@thenational.ae (preferably with a phone number) as soon as possible. Also please include your location.

Many thanks, Oliver Good. Olivergood (talk) 11:13, 15 March 2009 (UTC) Olivergood 15:13, 15 March 2009 (GMT+4)[reply]

Image:Hassan Allam.PNG[edit]

I answered your Help desk question. But I am concerned about where you got Image:Hassan Allam.PNG. How do you know that the image is released under a Creative Commons licence? Do you own the image and/or website? If so, please explain that on the image description page.--Commander Keane 10:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Commander Keane,

Yes I own the image. I will update the image description. Thanks a lot for your help.--Hussein M Allam 10:44, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, also please email permissions AT wikimedia DOT org explaining that you own the image (and ideally put the licence on the image on your website). This is so we don't still get confused that the image is copyrighted.--Commander Keane 10:52, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have emailed them as you requested. Hoever, I don't understand what you mean when you say that I should put the license on the image on my website. How do I do that?--Hussein M Allam 10:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Did you make the photography, or is Hassan Allam someone from your family? Or you just downloaded the photo? --Timichal 12:23, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Timichal, Hassan Allam was my grandfather.

By putting the licence on the image on my website, I just meant it would be good if it said that the image was licensed Creative Commons at http://www.allamsons.com/about.htm. It may not be essential.--Commander Keane 15:09, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Fouad el Mohandes.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fouad el Mohandes.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:100_Egyptian_Pounds.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:100_Egyptian_Pounds.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:31, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Currency Image:100_Egyptian_Pounds.jpg[edit]

Hi, In support of global anti-counterfeiting efforts, you may wish to consider marking banknote images uploaded as "Specimen" in some way, if the banknotes represented are legal tender. Thanks ShakespeareFan00 12:34, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:MIRR formula.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:MIRR formula.PNG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Best regards, Islahaddow

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
