Welcome![edit]

Hello! I'm a recent UC Berkeley grad who is very passionate about technology startups. It is my dream to one day launch my own successful tech startup.

I think Wikipedia is the best academic resource ever. The community is amazing at keeping information factual and non-biased. In terms of my contribution, I enjoy researching and writing about tech companies, as well as national parks. Alas, I am embarking on a trip to the west side of the US and plan to write more on national parks. In all my writing efforts, especially on companies, I intend to write as neutral as possible and I use as many 3rd party verified sources as I can to support the statements in the company's page. I understand that Wikipedia does not want promotional content, which is why I appreciate it when others help to add and change these pages. I do my best, but friendly editing is always welcome.

I appreciate you coming to my page and I look forward to working with you!

Cheers!

Hooray! You created your Teahouse profile![edit]

Copyright problem: Enlightenment Capital[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Enlightenment Capital, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images from either web sites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/capitalbusiness/capital-buzz-enlightenment-capital-has-big-name-backers/2014/12/11/30bb915c-808d-11e4-9f38-95a187e4c1f7_story.html https://www.pehub.com/2015/04/enlightenment-capital-seeks-125-mln-for-fund-ii/, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Enlightenment Capital saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on HappyFunCorp (company), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Copyright issues[edit]

Moved from my talk
 – Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:05, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Good day, I see you've reviewed a couple articles I contributed to Wikipedia and found copyright issues. Are you willing to work with me to help address these issues? To my knowledge, there is no violation of copyrighted material but I'd love to hear what you saw. I see in your notes that you stated the source wasn't directly referenced in the article - is that what's needed?

Thank you so much! Cheers Imarapaholic (talk) 17:53, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for helping me Justlettersandnumbers. I hear your point on creating derivatives of other people's work. How do you suggest I display these notable facts?

(edit conflict)So, you've already seen some examples of what I'm talking about at Talk:Enlightenment Capital; there's no doubt that those are violations of copyright, and quite serious ones too. Just to be completely clear: you may not copy other people's copyright text into Wikipedia, and you risk being indefinitely blocked if you do; if I should happen to see that you have ever done so again after today, I intend to ask for your editing privileges to be indefinitely suspended.
That said, I appreciate your willingness to help sort things out now, thank you for that! The most helpful thing you can do is to go through all your edits (which luckily are not very many), and list here, on this page, any article where you copied material from your sources (if you want to list the sources you copied from too, that's also a help). We have tools to look for this kind of thing, but the person best able to identify any remaining problems is the person who created them.
You ask if what is needed is acknowledgement, in the article, of the source you've copied from. In short, no: for copyright material it doesn't matter how well you reference it, you can't copy it. However (this is just for future reference), if you happen to copy Public Domain – i.e., non-copyright – content (such as an official US Government publication, say), then you must provide attribution of the source.
If you have questions, ask away! I have this page watched, so I'll probably see anything you write here. If you want to attract my attention elsewhere, include {{u|Justlettersandnumbers}} in what you write. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:29, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand perfectly. Thank you. I'll look through my contributions and see if I can find more examples. In the mean time, can you please help get Enlightenment Capital's page back up?

The page will be dealt with – either re-written or deleted – in due course (theoretically within a week). Unfortunately there are a LOT more copyright violations than there are people to deal with them, so there's a serious backlog. My advice: don't hold your breath! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:18, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Justlettersandnumbers, I hope all is well with you. I removed the copyright violations from the Enlightenment Capital page and rewrote the article on the temporary page, as instructed. Could you please reach out to a colleague or admin to review it? It'd be amazing to have it up for their holidays as I've discussed it with the founder. Kindly, Imarapaholic (talk) 02:56, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
