TN Highways

Thanks for the sources. I will add the tables one by one. The point about summary style is - in a article about TN, all topics should be given equal weightage. My concern was adding the road data was making the "roadways" section big and other sections small. Ideally this should be taken care by creating a new article called "Roads in Tamil Nadu" and linking it using the main template. But right now we dont have a main article, so i will add the details to the Tamil Nadu article. If it gets any bigger in the future i will create the new article.

BTW, welcome to wikipedia and happy editing :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 10:27, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

To clarify my above comments. Summary style in Wikipedia exists to give balance to an article. For example, In TN article we have many sections and Infrastructure is one among them. Roadways is again a part of infrastructure section. We have to take care that information about one section doesnt get bigger and other sections are neglected. So Wikipedia encourages addition of all data to a main article and then using the {{main}} template to link in the section. So if we add the road data to the TN>Infrastructure section, the Rail/air/power sections look neglected. The solution is adding the data to the main article. What i have done now is added all the data you had added (one in prose form and the other two in table form) to the main article List of State Highways in Tamil Nadu (with source as the tnhighways.org).
Please let me know if you have any doubts/concerns.--Sodabottle (talk) 10:45, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Nice work

nice work on adding the new data to Tamil Nadu. A tip- a reference can be reused if you give it a name. for eg you have used the source <ref>[http://india.gov.in/knowindia/st_tamilnadu.php]</ref> in many places. If you name it like this <ref name ="tnstat">[http://india.gov.in/knowindia/st_tamilnadu.php]</ref> in one place, then you can just use <ref name ="tnstat"/> in rest of the places (reduces copy past effort/page size etc)--Sodabottle (talk) 06:20, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Rupee

I notice you are adding {{nowrap|[[Image:Indian Rupee symbol.svg|8px|link=Indian rupee sign]]}} in a number of articles. Perhaps that should be discussed at a suitable wikiproject and a better solution found? That is 71 characters of wikitext to display a single symbol, and I imagine a template would be better. Has it been discussed? Johnuniq (talk) 04:15, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Follow up

I noticed your message at WT:Noticeboard for India-related topics#Rupee Sign. Notice that Virtualage has added to that discussion saying that they changed the {{INR}} template so the symbol is 7 pixels instead of 10 pixels. I had been thinking of changing the template to 8 pixels (the size you used in your wikitext shown above), and I was thinking of adding for a nonbreaking space to separate the rupee symbol from the following number. However, I see examples where people have put no space, and that is consistent with usage for other currency symbols like $. Conclusion: I have not changed the {{INR}} template, but I have used it to replace your wikitext in a number of pages, and I may do more later. I have put no space between the symbol and the number. It is worth doing the replacement because other editors will see how to insert the rupee symbol, and it is much better to use the template for consistency and simplicity. Regarding the consistency: if a discussion ever decided that a space (or a thin space) should follow the rupee symbol, that space could be included in the template, without any change to the wikitext in articles.

Example wikitext is {{INR}}250 crore which displays as 250 crore. I know that you used a space after the symbol, but consistency is best. If you want to discuss this, please post at WT:Noticeboard for India-related topics or my talk page. Johnuniq (talk) 09:52, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Pausing

Please see WT:Noticeboard for India-related topics#Rupee Sign where I have just left a message saying that I am not going to do any more editing with {{INR}} until a question regarding line wrapping is considered. Johnuniq (talk) 11:17, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Agriculture of Tamil Nadu

Great work on Agriculture of Tamil Nadu. I am much impressed :-). Needs a little copyediting though. I have retouched it a bit. Also we don't put quotations in the lead as we do in our school/college compositions ;-). The lead is just a summary of what is there in the article body. I have moved the thirukkural quotations to a new section titled "agriculture in tamil literature". (and screwed up the formatting in the process; i will rectify it) You can expand it to something like "agriculture and tamil culture" etc. Again i am very impressed by your work. keep it up.--Sodabottle (talk) 13:21, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Flags

Please stop adding flags to the infobox of films. Template:Infobox film explicitly states against that. BOVINEBOY2008 06:59, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Chennai

Hi Incrazy, I have reverted your change on the Chennai page. The type parameter has special meaning on the Infobox Indian jurisdiction template. As you can see on the template page, here are the possible values for the type,

 • state
 • union territory
 • region
 • division
 • district
 • subdistrict [alternatively, taluk, tehsil, mandal]
 • capital
 • hq
 • metropolitan city
 • city
 • town
 • neighbourhood
 • suburb
 • village
 • nature reserve
 • wilderness area
 • national park
 • natural monument
 • wildlife sanctuary
 • protected landscape
 • protected seascape
 • protected resources

If you change the parameter, the template will not be able to intrepret what type of article it is. I hope that clarifies the reason why reverted your change. Happy editing. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:05, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

To add to that, "Tier-1" / "Tier-II" is basically a industry/commerce classification. Since these articles are about administrative/geographical divisions, i don't think we can use those for description.--Sodabottle (talk) 06:34, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

List of Educational Institutions in Thanjavur

You have just added a historical note at the end of the page on the history of St.Peter's as the first college. Looking for other references to this subject, I found the page on Rev. Schwarz which does not mention this. If you have some references, this should probably be a new page. I am looking for volumes I have access to. -- Beta - Talk 13:00, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

redundant education navboxen

I'm asking for your opinion, since you recently added some templates. Would you say {{Universities in Tamil Nadu}} is redundant to {{Education in Tamil Nadu}}? --Muhandes (talk) 09:07, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't think so!!! but the template {{Education in Tamil Nadu}} covers both universities and colleges or schools in Tamil nadu so, we may prefer {{Education in Tamil Nadu}} - This is my opinion... Incrazy 09:17, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Not sure why you say you don't think so, when you agree with me :) You are saying exactly what I said - that since {{Education in Tamil Nadu}} covers both, {{Universities in Tamil Nadu}} is redundant to it. Or am I misunderstanding you? --Muhandes (talk) 09:35, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes {{Universities in Tamil Nadu}} is redundant, we can prefer {{Education in Tamil Nadu}} from now.Incrazy 09:40, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
OK then, listed. --Muhandes (talk) 23:04, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Education templates

Please stop adding the two templates to all school articles. Templates are supposed to connect two or more related articles, not act as a link repository for peripheral articles. Also, in most cases, any templates added should link back to the same article -- in the case of the two education templates, that isn't the case, and it shouldn't be either. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:10, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Without the Basilica there is NO VAILANKANNI

Me and you are working on that article just because of the Basilica located in the sea side village. You cannot separate Basilica from the village Vailankanni, if you do so, there is no need for a wiki article for that village.

Either we should merge all the contents of Vailankanni with the Baislica article or with the Vailankanni town article. Untill such time, let both the article be developed with lots of information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrownyCat (talkcontribs) 02:33, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

How long have you been mass-adding copyrighted material to Wikipedia? You've got to stop that now, and preferably save other editors the trouble (and yourself a potential block or ban) by going back and removing copyrighted material you have added in the past. –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 06:52, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of St Sebastian Church, Manganur

The article St Sebastian Church, Manganur has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of any notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
