A tag has been placed on Mike Austin (poet) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 17:27, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

April 2010

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Gloria Bird, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. ttonyb (talk) 18:26, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with this edit to Mike Austin (poet). Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. Stillwaterising (talk) 18:27, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Generally speaking page creators should not remove speedy deletion tags regardless of the reason. You can put the hangon tag on and put an explaination in the Talk section. I don't think this page will pass the notability guidelines either. I recommend moving the page into your user space and working on it more before moving back into the "main space" (public view). Message me back if you don't know how to do this. You want to be following WP:BIO and winning award is an acceptable way of acheiving notability but make sure the awards have a reference. Also, creating several pages at once is suspicious seeming that you may be doing this for promotional reasons or copying from another source. - Stillwaterising (talk) 18:45, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

I moved this page to your userspace so it can be worked on more. It seems that it may pass the WP:BIO but does not have clear references to show this. If you want I can help you get this up to standards so it can be presented again. - Stillwaterising (talk) 18:57, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the moving of the article, that's so trippy I didn't know you could do that. As for your help getting the article up, thanks but there's no need to worry, I'm pretty sure I can get the article up on my own eventually.Ink Falls (talk) 19:01, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
I also moved User:Ink Falls/Mike Austin (poet). Moving to userspace is a much better option that deletion for pages that simply need some work however it's not standard procedure to do this. Good luck and feel free to contact me for help. - Stillwaterising (talk) 19:04, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much, I might just do that in the future. :)

Canadian writers

Aboriginal Canadian people do not go in categories with the words "Native American" in them. If you'd like to create categories for Category:First Nations poets and Category:First Nations playwrights instead, then by all means go right ahead — but Canadian writers don't go in Category:Native American poets or Category:Native American playwrights. Bearcat (talk) 22:13, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Also, writers aren't filed directly in Category:Literature; they go only in the appropriate "writers" subcategories. Bearcat (talk) 22:22, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Where did I file writers into Literature? That was probably someone else.
You did it on Anita Endrezze, for one. Bearcat (talk) 22:38, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Probably the only one, I didn't manually put that in there, it just got overlooked when I copied that page from Nativewiki(w/copyright waived).

Actually, the definition Wikipedia gives for Native Americans, which can be found here reads: The term Native Americans may refer to: In its broadest sense, the entirety of the indigenous peoples of the American continents: Or, more-specifically, to the indigenous people living within a particular country: ... Aboriginal peoples in Canada - indigenous people of Canada, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit

What people might say in casual conversation doesn't have any bearing on how we categorize articles on Wikipedia. Precisely because the term "Native American" can be ambiguous as to whether it means North and South America as a whole or the United States alone, there's been a longstanding consensus on Wikipedia that we use the most unambiguous terminology possible. In categories, you'll find that "Native American" is only used for US-specific categories, not for international "North and South American" ones — for the general international categories, we use "Indigenous peoples of North/South America" rather than "Native American", and then subcategorize everyone by the terminology that's most appropriate to the particular country they actually come from. Bearcat (talk) 22:32, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
And also please note that the very same page you linked to for that definition also includes a link to Native American name controversy, which gives quite extensive background on the issue. Bearcat (talk) 22:49, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Kk, but I don't think I'll start a category for First Nation poets as I can't think of many and fear it might just get deleted for being so small.-Ink Falls (talk) 22:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Licensing for imported text

Hi. :) I see that you have been granted permission to reuse the content you placed in Annette Arkeketa from [1], here, but unfortunately we do need to get a more specific statement of license. We need to verify that the copyright holder is releasing the content under license compatible with CC-By-SA 3.0. The easiest way to do this is probably to ask him (or her) to place the release at his or her userpage or usertalk page; something like "I hereby affirm that I am the copyright holder of all text I have personally placed on nativewiki.org and authorize the reuse of all such text under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA)" should work. Since the site is evidently to be shut down, we'd want to make a record of that through OTRS, which I can help do, as I am a volunteer for that system.

I have blanked the article in the meantime. Sorry for the extra difficulty, but we do have to make sure that all imported text is released under terms compatible with our Terms of Use, and a specific licensing statement is required for that. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information, and please let me know if you have any questions. I'll be watching your talk page, but you are also very welcome to stop by mine. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:07, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Oh, one more thing: even if permission is granted, unless the original author is willing to release it into public domain, full attribution has to be provided. It would be very helpful to ask the original author how he or she would like to be credited, and that credit should be given in edit summary or article face as well as on the article's talk page, as you have been doing. Once we figure out how s/he wants to be attributed, we can work out the best way to manage that. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:11, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi, ok so I have asked him(I think it's a him) to release the statement, and I suppose we can just thank his website here, which works in colloboration with the authors themselves. Thanks. -Ink Falls (talk) 23:19, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Whatever attribution works for him works for us. :) Just to let you know, I've removed the text from User:Ink Falls/Linda Boyden for now that's taken from the site. That can go back as soon as we get this straightened out. I'll check to see if there are other issues that we need to blank or pull temporarily, and if I miss any, please go ahead and blank/remove them yourself just until this is addressed. Again, I'm sorry for the extra difficulty. When we deal with legal issues, we sometimes have a few hoops to jump through. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:23, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
That's ok, thanks for helping walk me through this. I'm sure finding all this stuff out will become useful someday. :) -Ink Falls (talk) 23:26, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Alright, text has been released here. Will this do? - Ink Falls 00:28, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that should do it for now. However, as Moonriddengirl said, we're going to have make a record of that through OTRS since the site is shutting down and that page with the release might not be up for very long. So if you can get Kstrom to follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries, that would be great. Please make sure that she uses an email address associated with the http://www.hanksville.org/ website (where the content originally came from). In this case, it would be "kstrom@hanksville.org". Orphaned non-free media (File:Colossus_and_Other_Poems.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Colossus_and_Other_Poems.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 19:38, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Ariel (poem) GA

Hi Ink Falls, I'm sorry to tell you that I've reviewed Ariel (poem) and failed it as a GA. It doesn't meet the criteria yet and I didn't put it on hold because I think there are just too many issues at the moment. Please don't be discouraged by this. I have left some comments on some of the problems, which I hope will be helpful. I enjoyed reading the article, and I think it's great that you're putting so much work into this area. I am sure that you will be able to address the issues and nominate it again soon. Please let me know if you have any questions. Regards, --BelovedFreak 13:03, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, your review was very informative and I will definitely be incorporating all of this. :) Ink Falls 04:40, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

The article Anita Endrezze has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. –– Jezhotwells (talk) 03:26, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
