Welcome

Welcome to the Wright Challenge. It's getting busy! Feel free to ask questions here or here, or ask me or Victuallers (you're in touch already, as I see above). Andrew Dalby 21:06, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

a romanticised process?

Thanks for the painting, I' afraid I added some unsavoury facts about the process ... are you still up for adding a version in French? I could do with some entrants for the Wright Challenge to invite other contestants. Victuallers (talk) 11:27, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I've just uploaded the original article in French but haven't managed to put in the citations. Mum's taxi (talk) 18:01, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Brilliant! I got a bot carried away adding stuff today. I was thinking of adding a DYK hook about "putrid urine and worms" but some? editor called Rock Drum had already nominated the article. Do have a go at adding some other subs if you have time and/or interest. I'm told that an ad for the Wright challenge has been placed on 141 wikis so they may all be looking to see who is in the race already. Victuallers (talk) 20:54, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I've never known a new article to appear so quickly in other languages. Victuallers (talk) 21:27, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

DYK for The Alchemist Discovering Phosphorus

Thank you from me and the wiki Victuallers (talk) 00:02, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for this. It was amazing to see the article mentioned on the main page. I enjoyed writing the last one, so may now do another. :-) Mum's taxi (talk) 07:34, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Please do, over 6,000 people read the version in English, 125 in French and 60 in Catalan and Spanish and 46 in Portuguese. All these translations and yours was first. Going for a barnstar? Victuallers (talk) 15:10, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
A link ... if you search for this and Benedict Micholson then you should find enough to make 1500 chars (for dyk) or 500 words (for the Wright Challenge) - cheers Victuallers (talk) 06:25, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi we added your score to the "Wright Challenge" page. Hope you are enjoying the challenge you started Victuallers (talk) 15:48, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Maybe we don't seem so exciting any more ... or maybe you have no time, but there's plenty still to do in French (and even English) if you're interested ... All the best Andrew Dalby 13:32, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the picture. Will try to start on an article this week. Mum's taxi (talk) 15:36, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Brilliant! (I know RD finds "stuff to keep him amused", but has it occured to him that with your two French articles you could make a team with him adding ones in Simple or English.) Did enjoy meeting you two again. Victuallers (talk) 16:46, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the new article - looks good and already in one other language. Can you just check that you are not using the same words as Derby Museum. We are allowed to paraphrase ... but not closely paraphrase. Mixing two (or more) sources is always a good plan. Victuallers (talk) 22:32, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, unfinished editing! Will deal with it. Only found semi-restricted copy of Benedict Nicolson's work. Any pointers?Mum's taxi (talk) 10:33, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Only to keep trying - there is a full version ..... hmm try the links on the refs of other Wright articles?. Oh and do add yourself here ... at least approximately. We now have 45 editors and some recent additions in French and Estonian. Victuallers (talk) 14:26, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Rosetta Barnstar
How does it feel to have written the first of over a thousand translations of articles about Derby Museum! Thanks for helping. Prizes are being awarded live by the Mayor of Derby at 10 on September 3rd. Victuallers (talk) 19:33, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
A barnstar! Wow,thanks! It was amazing to see how the Wright challenge took off. So glad I got involved. Mum's taxi (talk) 09:43, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in GLAM/ARKive project

Congratulations for your good work translating GLAM/Derby articles. I would now like to invite you to assist in translating English-language articles about endangered species, which have been improved by the GLAM/ARKive project. These are listed on this section of the project page. Please let me know if you have any questions. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 14:37, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Coventry Cross

Hi, thanks for creating the article Coventry Cross (monument). I've added a little info which was already included in the article Golden Cross, Coventry.

Have you finished the article? I suggest that the section on Henry VI needs a little more to tie it into the rest of the article.

I propose to nominate the article to appear on the front page under "Did You Know". What do you suggest we use as the "hook", i.e. the interesting statement (<200 characters)? - Fayenatic (talk) 22:48, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. The article is finished though I intend to include a picture of the Tudor cross, and part of the 1748 map, once they are uploaded to wikimedia commons. Please do nominate the article, but I'm relatively new to this so you will probably have more idea about what would be a good 'hook'. Perhaps the gilding and link with the Golden Cross pub? Mum's taxi (talk) 10:58, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Orlady (talk) 00:02, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, just over 5,000 people looked at this, so it got listed at WP:DYKSTATS. Congratulations! – Fayenatic (talk) 21:47, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for nominating this. Great to see that so many people have looked at it. :) Mum's taxi (talk) 19:57, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
My pleasure! As a Londoner, I'm curious to know why a place in Bromley by Bow was named after Coventry Cross (see http://www.mernick.org.uk/thhol/bromley4.html ). In the 1920s the London County Council named a large block of flats Coventry Cross; it's gone now, but the name "Coventry Cross Estate" lives on in the 1950s blocks west of the A12. I don't suppose your books will cover this use of the name! Perhaps it started with the name of a public house. – Fayenatic (talk) 18:20, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Interesting. I'll do some research Mum's taxi (talk) 21:13, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Catalan Culture Challenge

I've seen that you joined the Derby Multilingual Challenge a couple of years ago. I just wanted to inform you that from March 16 to April 15 we organise the Catalan Culture Challenge, a Wikipedia editing contest in which victory will go to those who start and improve the greatest number of articles about 50 key figures of Catalan culture. You can take part by creating or expanding articles on these people in your native language (or any other one you speak). It would be lovely to have you on board. :-)

We look forward to seeing you!
