Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page The Lotus Eaters (band) has been reverted.
Your edit here to The Lotus Eaters (band) was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.facebook.com/The-Lotus-Eaters-UK-249570482098/, https://www.facebook.com/The-Lotus-Eaters-UK-249570482098/, https://www.facebook.com/The-Lotus-Eaters-UK-249570482098/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 09:58, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jem and thanks for noting the incorrect or missing info on the Lotus Eaters page. Please be aware, though, that Wikipedia discourages editing pages about yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest

Also, individual band member birthdates are usually not included in such articles, and links to outside websites should only appear in External links (and a reference to a 2011 website posting cannot simply be changed to a different website that did not include that posting). Feel free to make any further suggestions for changes on the Lotus Eaters Talk Page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:The_Lotus_Eaters_%28band%29 Greg Fasolino (talk) 19:28, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Greg, many thanks for your instruction. I have now removed links to external websites, placing them instead in the External Links section. As an academic researcher I agree, it is far better to have a third party to make changes to information, but there are few / no external articles relating to The Lotus Eaters currently in publication. It seems absurd to get a third party to publish the information elsewhere so that it may be cited correctly. Any further advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Hi Jem. I understand your frustration, I was just giving you a heads up that Wikipedia can get really up in arms over artists editing their own pages. It's fine with me, I just wanted you to be aware. Also, the site is really strict in terms of ensuring articles are neutral and encyclopedic in tone, and do not sound "promotional" if that makes sense, since it's very easy for well-meaning artists who are not familiar with how Wiki works to insert material that sounds like a press release. We also have to follow standard style, like not using artist's first names after the first reference etc. I will revise your latest additions according to Wiki standard so you can see what I mean (another example: song titles must always be in double quotes, never italics). Aside from all this, just wanted to mention that "You Don't Need Someone New" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Be well!Greg Fasolino (talk) 13:30, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Greg, many thanks for your help and, indeed, support! It's odd, but I do write about my own creative practice for academic journals and have to attempt objectivity, but I see what you mean regarding the press-release effect. Also, I usually use Harvard referencing style, which has titles of books, plays, films, theatre works and songs in italics, hence my changing them all - sorry. Ah, yes, You Don't Need Someone New is actually one that I remixed in a version called The Charleston Mix, not that I was allowed to say I'd mixed it owing to internal politics! May I ask, then, are you an independent editor? Voluntary, or paid? How did you come to be an editor? All best, Jemlotus1 (talk) 14:28, 1 April 2016 (UTC)jemJemlotus1 (talk) 14:28, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Jem. I am a longtime music journalist but a volunteer editor here. Anyone can be an editor on Wikipedia, there's no special process.
