Copyright problem: Draft:Brandon Taylorian[edit]

Hello Adam9007,

Thank you for raising concerns regarding the information in this article. I am just working on confirming the permissions to use the information and pictures now having sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and have asked the publisher to email as well in aid of the confirmation with the ticket#: 2018050910013418 for your own reference to keep updated. Once this is completed, will the article be restored as it was and I can continue to edit?

I hadn't planned for the article to be reviewed yet as it isn't finished and it isn't to Wikipedia's layout guidelines yet because it isn't yet completed, but thank you for raising this investigation anyway.

Kind regards,

A tag has been placed on Brandon Taylorian, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello,

I am contesting the speedy deletion of this page on the grounds that it is a draft version; not a public version! You have suggested a fundamental rewrite of the page, but in deleting the draft page, you prevent other users from contributing to the construction of this page which is in violation of the principles of wikipedia.

Essentially, this page is a draft for a reason; it is not yet ready or viable to be seen publicly, hence the fact that it is a draft. Removing your deletion nomination will allow other wikipedia editors to contribute to this improvement of this page, but your speedy deletion nomination prevents this which is why I am contesting its deletion as it is not fair to other users who may wish to contribute to the improvement of this page.

Please see the wikipedia guidelines for more information regarding the principles of shared and open contribution to the improvement of draft pages. I, along with other wikipedia users who wish to contribute, thank you for not deleting this draft page.

Kind regards.

Draft deletion[edit]

Hi Jessemillette, I've deleted the draft as "unambiguous advertising or promotion" (see WP:G11).

The issue is that there are no independent sources to support notability. A subject offering interviews to local media and websites is not enough to establish notability. See WP:GNG and the following subsection of it, WP:SPIP: "Self-promotion, autobiography, product placement and most paid material are not valid routes to an encyclopedia article. The barometer of notability is whether people independent of the topic itself ... have actually considered the topic notable enough that they have written and published non-trivial works of their own that focus upon it—without incentive, promotion, or other influence by people connected to the topic matter."

Another issue if your user name. You've said that you're not connected to the subject or his PR team, but the name "Jesse Millette" is promotional and indeed has been trademarked, so it isn't an appropriate account name. See WP:ORGNAME. I'm therefore going to block this account. If you want to become an editor in other areas, you're welcome to do that. If you do, I can change the block settings so that you can set up a new account. SarahSV (talk) 04:43, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you.

Dear SarahSV,

I totally understand the issue with the username choice and I would like to request to change my username to my actual name so that it does not come across as promotional, and nor will it therefore violate Wikipedia's policy on usernames. I simply choose that username because I am a fan of the series created by Brandon Taylorian, and I was not aware that choosing such a username would cause editors to believe that I had promotional intentions for my work.

However, if I do change my username and keep my history of contributions, will this just not hurt my chances of being able to contribution to the Brandon Taylorian article? Please provide guidance on that.

I do, however, still have the intention to continue working to create the Brandon Taylorian article so that it may one day be published in the right way that complies with Wikipedia's policies. Now that the article has been restricted from creation, would I need to send the codes to you SarahSV or another editor for consideration before it can be drafted?

Before doing this, however, I will work to collate better references for the Brandon Taylorian article. I would just like some feedback on the actual words and style used for article draft? And whether you believe it was written in the right way?

Kind regards,

Jessemillette (talk) 12:33, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As several editors have explained, the subject is not notable enough for an article within Wikipedia's definition of "notable". Please read Wikipedia:Notability (people): "People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject" (emphasis added).
All the sources have either been written or organized by the subject. If your argument is that he's a notable author, then WP:AUTHOR applies. Please read that.
The subject has hired a PR team, which said on 11 May that they will be "generating greater public awareness for his work". Wikipedia can't be used as part of that effort. SarahSV (talk) 06:02, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
