You do realize the Rev Moon was a he? Makes yr nom look weak to get the sex wrong. μηδείς (talk) 20:56, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Well I didn't nominate it, I only commented. But thanks for pointing out that major error - epic fail on my part. --Activism1234 20:59, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
He was in the news a lot when I was young, hard to miss his gender. Will just assume you have a youth advantage on me. μηδείς (talk) 21:03, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Never assume. There are a consortium of other possible reasons, just as likely, I can think of.
  • I made the comment while I was drunk.
  • I made the comment after staying up until 3 A.M. every night for two weeks.
  • I made the comment while I had a hand spasm.
  • I didn't make the comment at all - aliens hacked my computer and made the comment.
The fourth reason seems to be the likeliest. --Activism1234 21:07, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Alpha Chi National College Honor Society

You do realize that the article as you have reverted it to is a copyright violation of Alpha Chi's website, correct? I was simply removing copyright infringing material which you have now added back. The user which copied the content into the article claims to have submitted an OTRS ticket. However, there has been no action on that ticket in more than 30 days. My interpretation of the situation is that the content cannot be in the article unless Alpha Chi provides permission and/or modified their website's copyright so that information can be used on Wikipedia. Do you see things differently? --TreyGeek (talk) 22:03, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

It didn't appear that way on STiki, so I apologize for any confusion. Feel free to revert me, I don't mind, but as a tidbit, instead of simply removing information, you should try to summarize or paraphrase it and reference it from the Alpha Chi site, with attribution ("The Alpha Chi website states..."). That's probably best. --Activism1234 22:05, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
I rollbacked my edit just now, but as I said before, it'd be best to simply summarize the info if no other sources can be found and attribute it properly. Not 10 passages, 1 or 2 should suffice with attribution. Thanks. --Activism1234 22:06, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

The article Shaanxi bus–tanker crash has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NOT#NEWS. This is fine for Wikinews, but the event has since had no long-term coverage. Fails WP:NEVENT

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Interesting to see you have "chosen" to change the color of your signature: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news&curid=485213&diff=511255697&oldid=511219722 μηδείς (talk) 18:32, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Everyone else's signature were also turned blue on that thread, not just me. --Activism1234 18:34, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Bringing it to your attention, knew it wasn't you, that's why I said "chosen" in quotes. I've had people mess with my signature before and was not pleased. μηδείς (talk) 18:36, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Ahhhh got it. Sorry about the confusion. Is this able to be penalized?? I'm not too happy about it either, and know that messing with people's comments on talk pages can sometimes lead to penalties. --Activism1234 18:39, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Jayron warned him. If anything like it happens again he'll probably get blocked indefinitely, you'd have to got to WP:ANI and file a complaint, or bring it to another involved admin's attention. I assume Jayron fixed everyone's signatures back. μηδείς (talk) 18:49, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

More DYK? nominations

Hey Activism, could you please take a look at these DYK? nominations of mine if you have some extra time? Thank you very much. Also, I didn't forget about my anti-vandalism training, but I'm kinda busy right now, so I'm planning to start it later if you don't mind. Finally, the Beilin-Abu Mazen agreement DYK? nomination has finally passed (partially thanks to your help) and is now on the front page of Wikipedia. :) Futurist110 (talk) 01:27, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

I'd rather not. I'd be happy to fix any issues with the article itself, but I'd prefer not to review your DYKs. A few of your DYKs I reviewed I thought would be good, but other editors said that there were issues and it couldn't pass... So I'd rather leave it in their hands. Also, I don't think it's exactly fair, because although I remain neutral in reviewing your DYKs, we do have extensive Wikipedia contact (for example, CVUA academy) and I don't want any claims of bias. --Activism1234 00:27, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Watching the 14 minute trailer was enough to convince me that if a two hour version does exist, I would have to be strapped to a chair to watch it. There are better ways to spend two hours, and the $5 million that the film is reputed to have cost. It was a bit of a puzzle when Google ruled that it was within YouTube's Community Guidelines (I think that it pushes its luck), but it needs to be seen in context with videos like this one from September 2010, which is an example of comically crude anti-Israel propaganda.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:43, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Wow I didn't expect a comment on my talk page. I was simply commenting that the choice of words - the audience was "lucky" to watch the movie - was odd (and obviously, not meant as intentional). I understood what you meant, don't worry, hence the <small> small tag. --Activism1234 06:48, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
As a note, I haven't even seen the trailer. Go figure. --Activism1234 06:50, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Bulgarian translation

Sure ... I have printed it out and will try to have something for you by the end of today. Daniel Case (talk) 14:38, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

OK. As you suggested it was fairly easy; it helps that, as you would expect from a letter between these two people speaking for their large organizations, they use very formal (and thus readily translatable) Bulgarian. I have translated a little bit freely, into more equivalent English.

Dear Mr. Mladenov,
I would like to express my deep grief over the suicide bomb attacks at the Burgas Airport.
In accordance with the declaration of UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon, with which I join, this tragedy was a terrorist act against innocent people.
On behalf of UNESCO and myself, I express the sincerest condolences to the relatives of those killed or injured.
As I am sure you know, UNESCO continues to work within the boundaries of its mandate against all forms of intolerance, racism and xenophobia toward mutual understanding, dialogue, respect for human rights and the achievement of a stronger world.
Sincerely yours,

You removed my contributions in the page: Innocence of Muslims

I'm surprised to know that you removed my contributions which was focusing on the peace of the whole world. In that contribution, I mentioned that we should know that how Muslims feel when somebody hits their prophet so that nobody remain ignorant that how much bad it becomes for Muslim. As Muslims have a big population, so if somebody would not hurt the feelings of Muslims then Muslims would not get infuriated and the peace of the whole world can be maintained.

I hope you'll consider my request and you'll let me to add these contributions.

Thanks.

Hello,
I see that you are a new editor. However, it is important to understand how Wikipedia works. What you wrote was your own personal explanation. It may or may not be true - I have no way of knowing. If you want to include that info, you need to provide reliable references to cite in order to back yourself up. As you saw, I was not the only one who removed the information.
Hope it helps. --Activism1234 21:32, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
  • What Activism said. Moreover, such an explanation is redundant: it's pretty clear that an insult to a prophet is a serious thing. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 21:44, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for replying. Yes I'm a new editor and don't know how to make references on wikipedia but I have references about my writings on that. I'm providing you that links and hope that you'll add references in that. Reference is: http://tribune.com.pk/story/437192/imran-khan-likens-muslim-sentiment-for-blasphemy-to-jews-for-holocaust/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by WaqarAhmedPK (talkcontribs) 13:26, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

    • Thank you. Now, unfortunately, one of the issues here is that it's a media outlet quoting the words of a specific person. It wouldn't be legitimate to include his words in the article without attribution as a fact. Perhaps we can include his words as a reaction, but to report this as a fact, we'd need a neutral, qualified reference writing it on its own, rather than quotes from a person. --Activism1234 22:20, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
    • Personally, I believe that what you are saying is very plausible. However, one of the things you'll learn over at Wikipedia, which may seem inconvenient at first, is that we must follow WP:NPOV, attribute any comments, and only report as facts when published in a qualified neutral party as a fact. --Activism1234 22:44, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Paraphrasing

If you'd like some advice then try my talk page. The main way to avoid it is to read two sources at once and then sort out what you want to say and write it in your own words. Imagine you were explaining it to someone who had an unusual vocabulary. I shall give more constructive help if asked Victuallers (talk) 09:10, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. --Activism1234 22:17, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

I haven't really been involved in the AndresHerut sock case - I think it was before my time. At either rate, looking at Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of AndresHerutJaim, I don't see how this IP address fits into AndresHerut's IP range. Of course, it's possible AndrewHerut changed this - in that case, overlapping activity and edits should suffice to tell whether the editor is a sock or not.
If you're truly not a sock, you have nothing to fear.
Hope this helps. --Activism1234 05:47, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Concerning Israel-Iran relationsships.

Hey Jetro. I cannot really see why you removed my edit since the link on quote 18 clearly says "by the US and EU" which are not the international community but Western Countries. I would like to know your reasoning for changing my edit or change it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.139.72.45 (talk) 05:05, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

The reference writes very clearly, "Khamenei reiterates statements made by Ahmadinejad on Friday, which the international community condemned." --Jethro B 05:08, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Jethro, there is no such statement on the reference. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4270418,00.html. The only reference available says

"The "cancerous tumor" of Israel is the biggest problem confronting Muslim countries today, Iran's supreme leader said on Sunday, repeating an epithet slammed just days earlier by UN chief Ban Ki-moon and US and EU officials."

US and EU officals are not regarded as the International community.

I did not make the account just to spam you, and please note that threating me with warning on a polite discussion is not nice either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mawa3931 (talkcontribs) 06:04, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Look in the Times of Israel reference - the one whose title you changed. You gave no explanation in your edit summary and just continued to revert, then made a new account for this.
I'm not threatening you - I'm informing you that you can't just edit-war and change the wording, including the title of the ref, when the ref says otherwise, and do this multiple times without any edit summary explanation. --Jethro B 06:06, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Sure, im new to this so I didnt know that. My point is accurate however, the reference from the Israeli times (http://www.timesofisrael.com/khamenei-israeli-a-malignant-zionist-tumor/) which the refer "international community" to this article (http://www.timesofisrael.com/ban-ki-moon-joins-us-in-condemning-khamenei-and-ahmadinejads-inflammatory-comments-on-israel/) appears also to be a misquote since the refering article says "joins US" and not the international community. And you're right, I didn't mention this one before. As I said though Im learning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mawa3931 (talkcontribs) 06:12, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

It's not for us to decide what's a misquote. Firstly, you simply can't go around changing the title of the article in the reference. The title is the title - you can't change it. Secondly, The Times of Israel is a reliable source, so we use what they say. Ynet lists some countries, doesn't write specifically Western countries. The Times of Israel ref is their own report - not based on a misquote of any other article.
Again, please self-revert. --Jethro B 06:14, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

As mentioned, The times of Israel also says US and not international community: http://www.timesofisrael.com/ban-ki-moon-joins-us-in-condemning-khamenei-and-ahmadinejads-inflammatory-comments-on-israel/

That's a different reference dude... It isn't the reference that you changed. Sigh, you said you're new. Why don't you just go and self-revert this source misrepresentation while wer'e discussing it? --Jethro B 06:25, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Article Review

Hello Activism1234,

I was wondering if you are please able to review these DYK? nominations of mine (or at least one/some of them) if you have a moment. If not, that's okay.

Thank you very much. And Yes, I know that I still need to do that anti-vandalism training practice. I could try doing some of it later on today, but I'm not promising anything. Futurist110 (talk) 22:59, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I'd prefer not to review the first one, as I was active in the DYK itself. However, I've reviewed the other two. --Activism1234 00:16, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Activism1234. I was wondering--if you'll have another extra minute, could you please look at this article's deletion nomination page and comment on it?--Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Race, ethnicity, and religion in various censuses. I dramatically improved this article yesterday, made a huge expansion of it, and added a whole bunch of sources to it. I think that this article serves a useful purpose on Wikipedia (though if someone wants to rename it, then that's fine) and I don't think that this article should now be deleted since I improved it a lot. Your comments and input on the proposed deletion of this article would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much, and thank you for reviewing two of my DYK? nominations right now. I responded to both of your comments about these DYK? nominations right now as well. Please take a look at them whenever you have an extra minute. Thanks again. Futurist110 (talk) 03:00, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
I'll have a look. But beware of WP:CANVASSING. I'm not sure whether this applies here, as I don't think anyone would accuse me of having a POV regarding this and I have rejected a number of your DYKs, but you should read that poliicy and be careful. Truthfully, I'm not that familiar with it myself, but I've never asked anyone to comment on an AfD or talk page before, so it's not really a policy I'm too interested in, but you should read it for yourself to see whether it applies and be more wary in the future. --Activism1234 03:19, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll definitely take a look at that canvassing policy in the future. I haven't seen it before, so I wasn't aware of it before either. One more thing--could you please take one last look at the Ray Long DYK? nomination when you have a moment? Thank you very much. Futurist110 (talk) 00:24, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

DYK

Hello there. I understand you contribute to the DYKs. Could you please consider the issue of a first ever monument inaugurated in Ottowa on 20 September 2012 for one of the many Turkish diplomats killed by Armenian terrorist organisations? I would appreciate it a lot if we are able to see this development in the DYK section. Thanks in advance and best regards. --E4024 (talk) 08:58, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Do you know how to submit a DYK nomination? Once you submit it, I'd be willing to review it. I need to see the nomination itself before reviewing, as the hook is relevant to the DYK review. --Activism1234 15:16, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. If you had asked me this morning what DYK meant, I would possibly not be able to tell you... If you are interested, I may find you the Canadian and other news reports for this monument. Thanks all the same if you do not have time to do it. Best. --E4024 (talk) 15:21, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
You would like me to submit a DYK, you're saying? --Activism1234 15:28, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Why not? I would appreciate it. --E4024 (talk) 16:54, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
No reason not to - I'll go and submit one. I just wanted to make sure this is what you meant. --Activism1234 16:57, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

OK I've looked over the article Atilla Altıkat. Unfortunately, it doesn't meet the threshold for DYK (yet). All DYK articles need to have over 1500 characters (which this article does), but also need to be expanded 5x within the past 10 days when it's submitted for a DYK. In other words, you will need to expand this article a lot more in order for it to pass at DYK. If you're willing to do this and finish, let me know and I'll submit it. --Activism1234 17:02, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Turkish tea

Thanks for your kind collaboration. Please have some Turkish tea freshly prepared, and see this nice video on Turkish Tea Culture as a token of acknowledgement. --E4024 (talk) 17:17, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks!! I appreciate it. Let me know what happens with the monument article, it could definitely pass DYK if it's expanded. --Activism1234 17:18, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
I am afraid I do not have the capacity to add that much to the said article because sources are limited. I had no idea before about that required expansion. Enjoy your new user name and thanks again for everything. --E4024 (talk) 22:02, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Oh that's unfortunate. Well, if you ever create a new article or significantly expand an article, drop a message by and I'll look into it! And thanks, you too. --Jethro B 22:06, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Re: Antisemitism in Ukraine

I was about to revert User:Smithsonianshouse when I noticed your edit to this article involved very close paraphrasing.[1] You really can't add content to Wikipedia like that. You either rewrite it in your own words or quote it in full. You can't just copy and paste. Viriditas (talk) 23:08, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I've had a look and changed it. --Activism1234 23:19, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
Another editor has edited it, not writing in the edit summary it's a revert, but as far as I can tell, that's what it is. I'm not really sure what the edit summary is trying to state. It's going back to the previous wording. Feel free to protest on talk page or with that editor if you'd like, it's not something I'm so heavily involved in or find so important to get involved too much in. Thanks. --Activism1234 01:32, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Bad edit ?

You seem to have deleted more than you intended with this edit: [2]. I fixed it. Did you have an edit conflict, by any chance ? When I get one, I never try to use the page Wikipedia gives me to complete the edit. Instead I hit that back button to get to my edit, cut it, then go to the current page, edit the section again, and paste my edit in. This method seems less likely to cause such mistakes. StuRat (talk) 01:41, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Yup I commented on that thread, result of edit conflict unfortunately :( Thanks for reverting though, I didn't notice it. And thanks for the suggestion - I'll stick to that now. --Activism1234 02:31, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome. Happy editing ! StuRat (talk) 09:22, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm just letting you know that following a request at RFPP I have temporarily fully protected this page, reverted it to what I think may be the last stable version, and soft-warned some editors for edit warring and asked them to settle their differences on the article talk page. Reverting socks

re your reverts [3] and [4]. The second one had in the es: Pleaes don't just revert socks without looking at edit. Of course, I did check the edit. Both sock edits I reverted (wikilegally I can add) were not based, and so had no convincing argument. Since a sock is disruptive by nature, I can assume bad faith unless an edit is well based (sourced) in itself. None was. Sock's es were: I don't think so and (blank): not a convincing argument. Adding to the bad situation is that the sock is not available for talking, obviously. Todo: The first sock edit is unsourced so contentious (your rv es argument: ... it existed for a long time ... is not helping either). I suggest reverting (or sourcing with WP:LABEL quality). The second sock edit you reverted left a bad wiki sentence, I changed that already. -DePiep (talk) 09:10, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

If an editor comes along, makes serious POV changes to a long-standing lead, and then a sock reverts it, it's not appropriate to simply revert the sock and keep the POV changes. This is the case where the sock acted responsibly. Even if you want to revert the sock, have a look - do you think this should be reverted? I don't feel so - it's going back to the POV changes an editor made to a long-standing lead. For anti-Semitism, it seems you haven't checked out what you're doing - if you're going to mention Russian pogroms in the lead, it's much more helpful to wikilink to them instead of wikilink to a much much broader topic. There isn't any reason to revert the sock there, as nothing disruptive was caused, and in fact it made a better wikilink. --Activism1234 15:06, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
This is fine, as it still contains the wikilink, but it's to a more specific article. --Activism1234 15:07, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi Jethro B. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved with Counter-Vandalism, and may still be. The Academy project has been restructured, placing responsibility for it on the trainers themselves and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is still interested in remaining as active trainers.

In future, there will be no clerking or coordination, so If you are still active and can respond to requests from students within around 48 hours, you need do nothing until a new student contacts you on your talk page. Nevertheless, if your status changes, please update your entry on the table of active trainers at the new WP:CVUA page. If you no longer have sufficient time to commit to the CV training project, that's fine, but please remove your name from the active list. While on your travels however, should you come across users who are having a hard time with their reverts, don't hesitate to send them a link to the CVUA. Thanks, and happy editing! Monogamy - clarification required

Hi, Activism 1234.

There was something you said at the end of your post @ Monogamy as part of culture, on the Humanities Ref Desk, that made no sense to me. Can you clarify? I asked on the page itself, but you seem not to have gone there in a few days.

Thanks. -- Jack of Oz (Talk) 08:53, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

I'll have a look, no problem. While I sometimes check the ref desk as it's on my watchlist (although recently I've been way too busy), I sometimes forget to check on threads that I've commented on, so I'll have a look now. Thanks for commenting here. --Activism1234 22:14, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Burden

I have commented that there is a lack of inforamtion regarding policy and a lack of citing policy against including it here.

That statement demonstrates the problem. We don't have to prove a negative. You need to prove why it should be added. If you can't effectively argue for the material, you can't blame us. As it stands, the material represents partisan rumor, innuendo and unsubstantiated opinion with no factual basis. If that's the kind of thing you think should be added to Wikipedia, then I will suggest you are on the wrong website. Viriditas (talk) 04:00, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Please take all content disputes to the appropriate talk page of the article, not my user or talk page. Thank you. --Activism1234 04:01, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Except, this particular discussion has nothing to do with content, it has to do with your rationale for adding content, which is a user issue. Maligning a BLP comes with a price, namely a very high evidentiary bar. And the claims you are arguing for including do not come anywhere near meeting that bar. This is very easy to understand. Viriditas (talk) 04:04, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
I respectfully disagree, and as noted before, another editor worked on the section to fix up any possible BLP concerns, which represented a turning point in the debate from citing policy against it towards citing personal opinions against it. I've mentioned this already. If there are BLP concerns, bring it up on the talk page, I'm happy to discuss. My talk page isn't the place for this. Thank you. --Activism1234 04:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
You can respectfully disagree with policy all you want, but you'll need to take your concerns to the policy talk pages. Viriditas (talk) 04:10, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Organization of lead paragraph of article "Jewish holiday"

Hi, Jethro. As the person who has been the principal editor of Jewish holiday of late, I would like to ask you to withdraw your MOS objections to the way I organized the lead paragraph. I fully appreciate the general concepts behind both of the MOS rules you cite here. Still, this article is peculiar in a number of ways, but because of this peculiarity I think my approach, bulleted and all, makes sense. Let me explain:

  • While I am adding some additional in-line citations as I move through the article, there is a fair amount of information here that I include without any direct and specific sources. My approach to this article has been that it covers each holiday on a very superficial level, with most of the information being on a very high, "obvious" level; e.g., "Jews traditionally eat matzo on Passover." I could provide a citation for that statement (and perhaps one is even there), but it's also pretty obvious, and not one subject to serious challenge. Simply put, every single holiday in this article gets "its own section," and then each of those sections in turn hyperlinks to a dedicated article on the holiday. In those articles all of the sourcing is (or should be) complete.
  • When I first began working on this article, it was arranged as one section per holiday. I think this is totally appropriate, and is consistent with the approach I described above. (Or, perhaps, the above approach is consistent with this.)
  • For that reason, I did not want to create a "section" at the top to cover information like terminology and groupings. As Shabbat is the leading holiday, Shabbat should also be the leading section of the article.
  • All that said, I felt the bulleted approach to differentiating between different terms for holidays would be a clearer approach in this case than using all body text.

Your challenge to my organizational approach here suggests that I have three choices:

  1. Your approach
  2. The actual lead section of the article is reduced to the first paragraph, I add a section "Introduction," or "Terminology," or something, leave that information in according to my bulleted approach, and then start with Shabbat as section 2. (Variant: Add a section header under introduction, then let all holidays be level-3 sections under it. I prefer the holidays to have level-2 section headers.)
  3. My original approach

I fully appreciate that either of the other approaches is purer in terms of MOS. However, I would remind you that MOS is intended to lead to clarity. MOS is not an absolutely immutable set of rules. My feeling is that my approach is superior for clarity in this particular case. I will be off until after the first days of Sukkot, so if you respond to me and I don't write back that's why. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:55, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to copy and paste this to the talk page, where I feel it is more appropriate. --Jethro B 20:04, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

???

Is your new user name Jethro B? It is OK as long as you are Activism1234. Cheers, Egeymi (I could not sign my message since the sign is not shown in GChrome for three days, sorry about it.)

Yeah I changed my username to Jethro B, I hope it's not too confusing! My signature is nearly identical except for the wording, so that should be a good indication to other editors who have interacted with me before. --Jethro B 20:47, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Nice to meet you Jethro B. Yes, your sign is similar to that of my dear wikifriend Activism1234:=)) Again Egeymi without signature but date, 20:50, 30 Sept 2012
I know you and ACT1234 are the same guy/girl. It was just a joke:)) Egeymi, 05:22, 1 Oct 2012
No no no, Activism1234 = Jethro B. I'm the same person. I'm Activism1234, I just changed my username to Jethro B. Same guy/girl though. --Jethro B 20:53, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Why? -DePiep (talk) 21:55, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
A few reasons. First, is to clear up any confusion that editors may have over my name, whose original desire was to express a goal of being active on Wikipedia. That goal itself has fumbled in the past few weeks, unfortunately, but a few editors "interpreted" the name differently (I'm using quotes, because also possible that was just an excuse, but that's a side point)... Second point is that I feel using a first name last name (or at least, an initial, since I don't want to actually reveal my name) is more professional and is more suitable to me. That isn't to say that usernames that aren't names aren't professional - it's just a personal taste. Hope it helps. --Jethro B 21:58, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
I do not believe this. Didn't you forget to mention it also hides softly your perevious WP behaviour? -DePiep (talk) 22:09, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Enough, see WP:AGF, I've explained quite clearly above that your assumption is mistaken. I'm going to continue editing in the same areas as always and more. My username does not change this. Believe what you want, what I've said above is what I stand by, and if you don't want to believe that, great for you. But if you don't have anything good to say to me, don't say it, leave this page alone and go edit something else. This thread isn't the place for assumptions or attacks. Good day. --Jethro B 22:13, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
On a side point, please don't respond, in your edit summary you wrote an incorrect username, which is probably what led you to write that point. That wasn't my username, but the similarity was still confusing enough, and not what I had intended, leading me to change it. Again, no need to respond, but do keep that in mind, in case you thought that was my actual username. Thanks. --Jethro B 22:25, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Congrats on the new username! regarding the comments above, I must say that I myself prefer when users use made up nicknames rather than real names simply because I believe that in most times it's much easier to remember a unique username better and because I think people here should embrace their Pseudonymity. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 23:25, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

      • Well, to be fair, I haven't identified my last name... --Jethro B 23:42, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Proposal

It isn't strange that the only tiny developed democratic country in the Middle East (the only place where Arabs are truly free) is the only one that has an entire article dedicated to their enemies' accusations (real or invented), but countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran or the Palestinians don't have one. My proposal is to create a page about Criticism of the Iranian government... starting with simple facts: it's a theocratic regime which finances terrorism (Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Revolutionary Guards, etc), kills dissidents in Europe, bombs Beirut and Buenos Aires, helps to violently suppress protests in Syria (where its allied dictator is facing major problems) and inside Iran, promotes violence against defenseless civilians in Israel, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Iraq, possesses ambitions in Bahrain, scares Sunni Arab countries of the Persian Gulf and threatens to close the strait of Hormuz, violates Human Rights, threatens to erase Israel from the Earth, it's an oligarchical-clerical dictatorship that hangs homosexuals, denies the Holocaust, perpetrates terrorist attacks in Thailand, Georgia, India, Azerbaijan, Kenya, Greece, Turkey, South Africa, Cyprus, Bulgaria (at least 24 countries in five continents)... kills diplomats and tourists, assaults embassies, has an antisemitic imperialist ideology full of dangerous suicidal fanatics and misogynists, stones women for committing "sexual offenses", has genocidal aspirations against another nation, oppresses minorities, has religious ambitions of regional and global power... a danger for the world in general and Israel and the Jewish people in particular. I mean, don't you think we should remove Wikipedia's double standard regarding criticism of other countries?? I'll let you think about it and if you want starting the new article. Greetings.--JellWaffle (talk) 23:36, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Palestine Liberation Front: unlisted

Hi Jethro,

The UE list used to contain a "Palestine Liberation Front – PLF" line.[1]. But the newer version does not contain that line anymore. It has been unlisted. Could you please reinsert it the organization in the "unlisted" table? Thanks a lot!

By the way, your opinion would be greatly appreciated in this debate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_designated_terrorist_organizations#US_Terrorist_Exclusion_List:_Is_it_really_a_designation_as_terrorist.3F

Cheers! Nicolas1981 (talk) 04:01, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Yeah sure one second. I'm trying to find the most recent EU list (2012 version), and see what it looks like. Otherwise, I'll revert it. I find it problematic to use this type of comparison, take 1 list and compare it to another, since I can see it falling under WP:OR, but I'd say that's another issue. I mean technically, someone can argue that the fact it doesn't appear on the list doesn't mean it was officially removed... But I won't get into that. And I"ll have a look at that debate. Thanks! --Jethro B 04:06, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
OK I can't find a more recent version, so I reverted. Interestingly though, I was able to find the American most recent version in September 2012, which lists the Palestine Liberation Front as a terrorist organization. Thanks! --Jethro B 04:08, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

I am Egyptian and I know that we eat fig rolls. I guess that's not exactly a valid source though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.230.82.233 (talk) 23:00, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

The article is pretty much devoid of refs but the content of the article indicates that it is probably still eaten in Egypt, so I can see your point here, and I'll put it back in. --Jethro B 23:10, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Capital City

You did a "partial revert" of my careful editing of this article, and I don't understand your 1-line explanation, moreover you left the 2 paragraphs poorly worded again. Please justify the revert before I reverse your revert, I really don't want to get into an editing war, you seem like a reasonable fellow, but your words, "unfortunately, the wording change made a dictionary ref as basis for more than a definition statement)" make no sense to me. What does the phrase "definition statement" mean to you? What do you think is the purpose of including that definition in the article at all? Why does it belong in the last paragraph of that section rather in the paragraph where I moved it? Did you read the entire section to get a sense of its flow? It was very awkward and poorly written; I improved it; you have, in my opinion, degraded it. You can see how much time and thought I put into that edit, it would have been decent of you to share your concerns with me before such a hasty and clumsy reversal. The article needs a lot more work, and it is this kind of cavalier "policing" that makes talented editors weary of wikipedia and feel like we're wasting our time... (see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/New_editor_engagement#Rationale).Narc (talk) 05:00, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

I did a partial revert to 1 out of 4 edits you made. The version of the article in your edit created a few sentences, whose final reference was to a dictionary website. The dictionary reference was meant only for the last sentence, which contained a definition, leaving the other sentences in that passage incorrectly referenced to a dictionary reference (these sentences didn't deal with a definition). If you want to change the wording, go ahead, but make sure that each sentence is properly referenced, with the dictionary reference applying only to the sentence concerning the dictionary definition.
Does this help? --Jethro B 05:03, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
And I have removed the sentence completely. It is a classic example of synthesis to advance a position. Narc, please read WP:OR. You need to find secondary sources that have made this argument while discussing the Jerusalem Embassy Act. Sean.hoyland - talk 05:15, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Sean is correct, good catch. --Jethro B 05:16, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Which "argument" are you talking about. Did you read that paragraph before my edits? It was and remains badly in need of many more sources. The dictionary definition is not sourcing the entire paragraph. It is a process, and you could help by adding more, not by taking away. It is now reverted to the poorly-sourced, poorly-written paragraph that it was. Rather than a collaborator, you are acting like a policeman. I frankly don't care enough about the topic to fight, nor to argue. As I said, it was a cavalier manner, and it appears from elsewhere to be a habit of yours - just revert rather than try to improve, and driving this particular editor away from editing. Have fun policing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Narcissus14 (talkcontribs) 04:38, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
OK. --Jethro B 04:41, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Netanyahu's page

Hello, I've recently made an edit to Netanyahu's page, edit that you later reverted, indicating "uses an opinion piece to draw comparison, and misleading edit (insertion of a passage marked as "Minor")". I am relatively new in editing Wikipedia, so I thank you for providing me with explanations, and I understand that parts of my edit were not acceptable under the Wikipedia:No Original Research principle. However, it does seem to me that the main part of my edit should not have been reverted because it is a neutral, verified fact (see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view). More precisely, I think that the following paragraph should have been kept:

On September 12, 2002, Netanyahu gave a speech to the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,[2] stating that "there is no question whatsoever that Saddam is seeking and is working and is advancing towards the development of nuclear weapons – no question whatsoever".

Indeed, by adding this paragraph, I am not giving a personal point of view, but I am merely reporting a fact along with its source. Moreover, this fact cannot be considered as minor, given the topic of the speech. Maybe, instead of referencing the Haaretz blog post, would you find it better if the source corresponds to the YouTube video directly?

What do you think? What should we do if we disagree? Should we discuss this on the article Talk page instead?

DYK: September 2012 Egyptian-Israeli border attack

Hi JethroB, and thanks for your work on September 2012 Egyptian-Israeli border attack. I reviewed your DYK nomination and made some suggestions over on the template page. Take a look when you can and we can discuss/revise. Thanks, groupuscule (talk) 22:57, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Great! I'll have a look. Thanks. --Jethro B 23:33, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

ERM Power page

can you review again - and suggest edits so I can remove the 'issues' box. I've added some references. Its my first page - so I'm a bit of newbie  :-) Ewengstewart (talk) 06:07, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Jethro. I was on new page patrol with you when we arrived at around the same time at Wise Care 365. While I agree that the article needs work and may not survive long-term, five tags on an article created just today might discourage an editor. I removed your {{refimprove}} tag because it was superfluous with the {{unreferenced}} tag (in an unsourced article {{original research}} is implied also, and may not require a separate tag). All the best, Miniapolis (talk) 19:16, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm a bit new to new page patrols. I was wondering whether it was all necessary when I did it, but couldn't see any objections to it. However, now that I've seen what you wrote, I will incorporate this in the future.
Thanks. --Jethro B 19:17, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
No problem; I'm new to NPP too, and will hang out for a while on AfC since NPP seems to be covered :-). Have fun and all the best, Miniapolis (talk) 19:32, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

I reverted or improved your 52 consecutive edits October 4th which all inserted Israeli Jews as the internal link behind Israel without referencing. If the religion is really relevant, please spell it out in full and source. Thanks. Wakari07 (talk) 22:47, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

No reference required, as the religion is in the article (the category for all these articles is "Israeli Jews"). I've seen it on some other articles, and worked to put it on the rest. --Jethro B 23:15, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Cut & paste moves

Hello Jethro. I see that you cut Next Israeli legislative election and pasted it into Israeli legislative election, 2013, turning the former into a redirect. WP:Cut and paste moves are not allowed on Wikipedia as it is a licencing violation. If you wish to move a page, use the move tab. If this won't work, you need to go through the WP:RM process. As this is an uncontroversial move, I have reverted your changes and moved the original page. Number 57 07:20, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Did not know that - how can it be a violation if it's still the same Wikipedia article? All right, I didn't think it'd be controversial or anything, but i'll go through that RM process you brought up. --Jethro B 22:32, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
It's a violation because if you cut and paste, the new page doesn't have the history of the old one. Number 57 07:18, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Aaaaah got it. --Jethro B 22:28, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Regarding this edit, if the user was a sock I certainly won't question the block, but why would the word A be capitalized there? It's in the middle of a sentence and I don't see how it could be a proper noun in that context. What am I missing? --Bachrach44 (talk) 00:38, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Wow... I'm an idiot! The capital was on my side of the edit, not the socks. I've reverted. Thanks. --Jethro B 00:49, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Look at the bright side - you've now done the world's smallest wiki-edit twice to the same article. As an avowed wiki-gnome, all I can say is: Welcome to the club. :-) --Bachrach44 (talk) 08:16, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

CVU Academy Trainee

Hello Jethro_B,

My name is NitRav, I am fairly new to editing Wikipedia as a registered user, though I have been editing occasionally as an IP in the past.

I was browsing through the CVU, and came across the Academy. And was wondering if you could train me on counter vandalism.

I have been using Twinkle so far, and have read WP:VAN and use it when patrolling recent changes.

I'd be available most weeknights, till around 21:00 EST

Thanks in anticipation NitRav (talk) 00:41, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Definitely! I will leave a message on your talkpage with more information! Thanks. --Jethro B 00:49, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Response

I responded to your comment on my talk page. Please respond to it whenever you can. BTW, have you considered joining the "110 Club" forum? You might be interested in it. Also, I was wondering if I could discuss Israeli politics with you via Wikipedia e-mail. Thank you very much. Futurist110 (talk) 00:44, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Great. As for joining that club, age-interests and supercenterrians don't interest me that much, just my own personal taste :(
And feel free to email me about any topic! I may not respond so quickly, but I'll respond! --Jethro B 00:51, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Are you sure? Studying SCs is a lot of fun once you get to know more about it. Are you into history? And Yes, I'll e-mail you in the future in regards to your Israeli political views. Also, I responded on my talk page. Futurist110 (talk) 00:59, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah it's just not my topic. --Jethro B 01:05, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Allright. BTW, I responded on my talk page again. Futurist110 (talk) 01:13, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
OK I have your talk page on my watchlist so no need to alert me when that happens, but thanks anyways. --Jethro B 02:07, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

How to see article size

Sorry I didn't responded earlier. To see the size of an article, simply click on "view history". You'll find a list of edit summaries such as this one: "00:44, 12 October 2012‎ Futurist110 (talk | contribs)‎ . . (74,176 bytes) (+389)‎ . . (undo)" The "74,176 bytes" indicates the size of the article after that specific edit. Hope this helps! -- FutureTrillionaire (talk) 00:50, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Got it, thanks! --Jethro B 00:53, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Your thoughts are requested

I’ve started a move request to change the title of the article Al-Nusra Front to Protect the Levant to Al-Nusra, per WP:commonname. Your input is appreciated. -- FutureTrillionaire (talk) 01:09, 13 October 2012 (UTC)

Sounds good, I've commented there. Notify me in the future about similar stuff (as long as it's not WP:CANVASSING). --Jethro B 00:14, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Racism in Israel citation issue

Hi Jethro B, I have merely added citations that appeared reputable to the page and I am unsure of why they are contentious, given that the Electronic Intifada site has merely republished a UN report and Chomsky is a respected author—I will remove the blog citation, as I now understand why that is contentious, but would appreciate further explanation, as you are a more exprienced copyeditor. Regards, --Soulparadox (talk) 03:59, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

The issue is that Electronic Intifada is a pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel blog with biased, partisan opinions. It'd be best to find the UN report itself and reference it, as that'd be the best version. Chomsky is a bit different; his views are certainly partisan but it's usually simplest to attribute his views, like most scholars, to himself, which would be tough in the article. I'd leave that ref there, but most Sephardi Jews fall under Mizrahi Jews anyway, so I didn't feel it was that important to distinguish. Hope this helps. --Jethro B 04:10, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
NOTE: I noticed that Malik Shabbaz has reverted you as well. --Jethro B 04:14, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

List of massacres in israel. When is a massacre not a massacre?

Your reference to banned sock is wrong, so is your reference to 1RR. I do not see you as having contributed to this discussion, but please read it. The concensus is as I have suggested. Your incorrect claims do not change that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.53.232.98 (talk) 18:59, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Seems pretty clear you're a sock, but I'll see what happens. And yes, you removed material once, I reverted, then removed it again. No consensus for it. If you're not a sock, I'd suggest reverting, otherwise it's in violation of Wikipedia rules. --Jethro B 19:01, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
