List of Martinians Removed all redlinks without supporting citation[edit]

Thank you for your recent edit on the page, List of Notable Martinians. Please remove the links and not the entries themselves. (Did you find fault with the entry or the link?)

A large number of babies (famous schoolboys) have been thrown out with the bathwater (removed red links). Not all famous people are on Wikipedia a red link encourages people to start an article on the subject if it is notable.

For example just because the name had a red link around it you have decided to remove the entire listing of the following notable person knighted by British Raj.

Khan Bahdur, Syed Ainuddin, KCIE, Indian Civil Service. City Magistrate Lucknow 1918, Diwan Dattia & Charkhari States 1929, Advisor to Governor United Provinces 1933, British Political Agent to the United Provinces 1940, Principal Secretary to the Viceroy, Marquess of Linlithgow 1941, On India's partition transferred to Pakistan. From 1952 - 1962, Founded & was Chairman of Anglo Oriental Airways (Now called PIA).

Several dozen listings of our old boys seems have been removed by you because the name had red links to them

If you had removed the red links and leave the names then that would be satisfactory. If you feel some names should not be in the article because they were not notable enough to be listed, and removed these names I would understand that too.

with kind regards

Lalitshastri (talk) 17:37, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lalit. Thanks for taking the time to discuss the matter.
I think you're missing the point a bit. I removed the redlinks (which were without citations) per WP:LISTPEOPLE, which states:

If a person in a list does not have a Wikipedia article about them, a citation (or link to another article) must be provided to: a) establish their membership in the list's group; and b) to establish their notability on either BLP1E or BIO1E.

An unreferenced entry which doesn't have a wikilink is no better than a unreferenced entry which is a redlink. It is simply not verifiable. A citation is needed to show they are both notable and an Old Martinian.
You're right that "not all famous people are on Wikipedia a red link encourages people to start an article on the subject if it is notable". If you can provide citations which demonstrate a person is notable and a graduate of the school then they can be on the list as a redlink and hopefully someone will write their article.
Many on that list have had citation needed tags since July 2007. They really should have been removed four or five years ago. Jevansen (talk) 10:42, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt reply. I agree with you, Many on that list have had citation needed tags since July 2007. They really should have been removed four or five years ago.
After a moments reflection, I also agree with you the edit of this article and I thank you for it. I will revert the article to your edit. The article has been improved Thank you!!

Non-free rationale for File:Dadabhay Trophy.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Dadabhay Trophy.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hi. I noticed your edit here. If you read the instructions at the top, it does say please restrict yourselves to stating your own opinion in your own section about the article titles and content, and how this is justified by the consensus, so I removed your comment in someone else's section. Would you like me to make a section of your own for you, so that you may comment? --John (talk) 09:41, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Edward Lyttelton.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Edward Lyttelton.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Page moves[edit]

I saw you've moved a page to Dick Russell (footballer), many of them are like "Dick Russell (born 1968)". I am totally in support of moving them, but should you know that it is not accepted by all. If you want to read a relevant conversation, you can check this one. Your step may have been necessary per WP:BOLD, but if you got reverted, I would advise you to simply open a PMR or discuss. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 00:57, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OccultZone. I wasn't being bold, I was following policy, there's nothing ambiguous with the current title. Birth year is only "necessary when there are multiple people with the same name and tag" He is the only Dick Russell in the encyclopedia who plays a football code. Cheers Jevansen (talk) 01:38, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just a head's up, I downgraded this from a speedy to an AfD - see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Campbell Dickens for an explanation. I suggest we don't. Excluding all the other issues with your version, we can't host copyrighted content. Jevansen (talk) 09:59, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jevansen thanks for sharing the content on my (talk)talk page. I however would like to point out that sections such as 1. Awards have been taken down by your recent edit. 2. The factual details around the acquisitions ( all of which are cited with news articles) , re-aligning indian business to Sesa Sterlite ( merger of business) etc have been removed. Some of the information merits inclusion instead of a complete revert. I would really request you to look into these sections before reverting such changes. If you want to re-edit the page go ahead, just make sure you read and comply with the relevant guidelines. No copyrighted material, cite your sources (which are independent from the subject) and write it from a neutral point of view. I'd leave out the section on "Social Responsibility".
