- Sorry that the hook was swept away to the queue before you had an opportunity to comment and fix the wording. Thanks for pointing out the error, I've added "of" now—more accurate and reads better, too. I had been about to go ahead and include the portrait when I added the alt, but it occurred to me that the licensing or the size might have been the issue, so decided to wait for your comment instead. Glad I did!
- Yes, I think going through OTRS for the Tasmanian Archive and Heritage material is probably best. I'm not really that au fait with OTRS and licensing (J Milburn is very active in that area, so you could ask him), but it seems right to me to formally recognise a release of high-res content, PD or not, from a specific organisation.

- Yeah, they would be PD- you could tag them with {{PD-old}}. Wikimedia policy is that you do not need the permission of the office, but, of course, now you do have it it's worth mentioning. - Ah, well that permission doesn't really count for much then. As I said, it's all icing on the cake anyway, as Wikimedia's position is that identical copies of public domain works (and this is pretty unambiguously PD, as he died over 100 years ago) are also PD; the claim of ownership from the Archive Office would be baseless under US law. For future reference, permission for Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons to use a file is no good- they still count as non-free (or, in this case, free, as they were free anyway). Reg: Title Image updation of article "Harmandir Sahib"
Hi ,
I have a concern with the title image of this page (Sikh_pilgrim_at_the_Golden_Temple_(Harmandir_Sahib)_in_Amritsar ). If you look into the image with full resolution , you can clearly see some people reparing something on the roof of the sacred dome .Also a half naked man is in front of the temple.
I do understand that this image shows reality but still I don't see any reason just to stick with this image .This image stayed there for long because most of the people who visit Wikipedia are not familiar with editing features.
I request you to change this image to any other image you like ( from the pool) but the current title image is unacceptable as it hurts the religious sentiments of Sikh religion.

Just for the record I have no connection with the picture in question (creation, uploading, etc) - I merely nominated it for Featured pictures a couple of years back when someone else raised it as a suggestion at Picture peer review, and shifted it from a gallery into the article proper. I also have no connection with the Harmandir Sahib article beyond this.
I also know little to nothing about the Sikh religion, certainly not enough to know whether a (as you call it) half naked man would be offensive, but with the little I know I would not have thought so.
Nonetheless I must disagree with your sentiments that the "image stayed there for long because most of the people who visit Wikipedia are not familiar with editing features". Harmandir Sahib has been edited some five hundred times since this picture first went into the gallery here, and almost as many times since I moved it into the article proper here - I don't know when it actually went into the taxobox; as I said above I have nothing to do with the article.
Additionally this picture is a Featured Picture on English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, as well as Irish and Turkish Wikipedias. It won Commons Picture of the Year for 2009. It is used on several articles on Wikipedia, including Sikhism. It is used on dozens of other language Wikipedias and related projects - see this list. It is clearly approved of by Wikipedia:WikiProject India.
Based on all the above, it would appear that others don't agree with your reservations with the image; the image is not in all these places by accident, and is not remaining there just because people don't know how to move or remove it. Please remember that Wikipedia is not censored. If you disagree with it's usage, the first place to start is with the article's talkpage Talk:Harmandir Sahib, or alternatively you could raise it at Wikiproject India's noticeboard.

- I don't think it is, I think you should report it to the coordinators page and to Template_talk:Multiple_issues. Steve Masters or Diannaa should be able to fix it as they are admins. - Yup, there was a lot of strange stuff in it that had to go!
- The request was already posted when I went to check, I had a look at the source and if that change is made that will just leave "copedit" and "grammar" as the only ones that put the hidden "needs copyediting" categories in. - As you can see, The Bugle , is a complete posting into the members talk page with a separate section header. The problem is that the GOCE page is for all March newsletters , so having the header in it is the problem. The only fix is to have one page for all newsletters or to post the whole newsletter as The Bugle is delivered. THat is a lot of code to go on each page though, the subst template is much easier and less cumbersome.
- We use a similar format and method for the Robotics newsletters, a subst but with a separate page for each newsletter. When I deliver it I will use the subst {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Robotics/Outreach/Newsletter April 2011}} but will also add the header onto each page and my sig after. That is all well and good for up to 30 members, but after that you have to use AWB or it would take hours to do them all :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 14:28, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I just wanted to thank you for your comments on, to put it rather bluntly, the decline of FPC. I won't say I agree with you on all points but I appreciate that someone came out and said something and got a discussion going even, even if it may not amount to much in the end. I wish it could have been under better circumstances than you abandoning FPC but I'm not one to judge nor am I in a position to having mostly withdrawn from it myself. Re: Image issue
The image was uploaded from Commons to the English language Wikipedia in preparation for its appearance on the Main page. Cascade protection is able to protect items within a project that are transcluded onto a single page but is unable to perform cross project protection. Thus, a Commons image trancluded to the Main page could be altered by modifying the image on Commons. Creating a local copy of the image prevents this possible form of vandalism. The other means of performing this task is protecting the image on Commons. As the last admin involved with DYK that also had admin privileges on Commons left the project last November, this is currently not a practical option.
DYKUpdateBot deletes the local copy as part of its cleanup activities when the image is taken off the Main page. Thus things should be back to their previous conditions once the 08:00 8 April 2011 (UTC) update is completed. --Allen3 talk 14:12, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

- Oh, thanks. The name (very!) vaguely rang a bell. However I was answering a question from another user on the Miscellaneous Reference desk, not requesting information myself. It's just the user posting the question never signed their post. It appears the question was asked by an anonymous IP user Special:Contributions/69.92.11.164. (And wow, it's fantastic you've still got such an old bike. Also how on earth did you ever find that post from so long ago?? :) ).
- BTW, if you want to upload photos there's a link on the left of the page, under the toolbox category, that says "Upload file". Just click that and follow the instructions. Even better, for photos with no copyright concerns or anything, is to add them to Wikimedia Commons as then they're available to Wiki projects worldwide, not just English Wikipedia. Looks like, according to the article, it's just getting to the end of the flowering season for this year. - Yeah, my plant stayed alive for seven years (woo hoo!) - I was well chuffed. But the flowers were minute :/ I have more details on locations I will add later today...be great to get a photo of it in the snow. Nah, it's easy to tell. The only thing which will look vaguely like it and anywhere nearby is marginata, which the old flowers remian on the spikes. Also, the leaves of canei are really thick and tough. Do you know if it's likely to be out along the Omeo Highway, around the Big River say, or out around Benambra? I can get to those areas relatively easily. - Oh, unless you're referring to your other conversations about barnstars and chickens, that are different matters, but why would I be worried about them? The issue was checking up Mayhems copyedits for the WP:GOCE, which originated here which was 14 hrs before either yours or Diannaa's comments, as I pointed out above, and which is what I was pointing out on your talkpage. --jjron (talk) 11:08, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Well to be honest, I have no idea why you are worried about any of this lol! nor why you had an issue with anything to do with this - perhaps you can explain why you are taking such an interest, after all it has taken a fair amount of time for me to address your concerns :¬)
- To be clear, that was me adding a note to someone as a "welcome to the drive" and catching up (as I had helped him when he set up his page, with scripts and tabs, after first joining). I had seen some conversations with other editors and thought it prudent to make sure that MofM did not fall foul of trying to bite off more than they could chew, nor cause any problems with copyedits like we had last drive with a particular editor.

- Ah! I just read your latest message - Unfortunately I open talk pages (in which case I cannot always see the bottom of the page - especially MofM's which has 1.5 pages of stuff before you even get to the posts), hit the + button (add new section), write my bit, preview it and correct any obvious mistakes, save it, read it again then close the page down. I tend not to read other peoples posts so would not have noticed yours on MofM's talk page, nor did I read it later in the day when I was adding the other notes on there as by then the page was full of kittens and chicken pieces. I did read your thread and the post on Diannaa's page, as I spotted MofM's (well his copyeditor moniker) post but it merely said that he could probably do with "some hints" User_talk:Diannaa#May_backlog_drive
- Why on earth did you not just say "Are you aware that I told MoFM that his copyedits were dubious some time before yours and Diannaa's conversation?" - to which my reply would have been "No I did not see that, I was offering my help to him as I have interacted with him qutie a bit since he joined and tried to help him along. Unfortunately I did not sign up as a checker until much later that evening and Diannaa was already looking at his work by then (links to diffs)"

I randomly picked that article for checking and noticed the goings on [9]. When I come across things like that I normally take a section of text, paste it into Google and run a search, the more words the better up to about 15 or so. As a result I got that link as the first on the first page of results [10].

I'm currently off the 2009 articles for the most part as they're getting pretty obscure and many require a lot of interpretation (almost total rewrites) if you're going to do them properly, so I'm dipping into more recent stuff instead. Have actually done a few interesting articles over the last couple of days as a result, that being one of them. May GOCE drive - Article word counts
Hi, Microsoft Word does not count words in Wikipedia articles correctly, for example in your list
World Series Cricket Results contains 720 words of readable prose (not 5435) and Obernewtyn Chronicles 4462 (not 5004). I haven't checked the others but note that text in user boxes, tables and bulleted lists does not count as "readable prose".
It's better to use a tool like this: User talk:Dr_pda/prosesize. If you have any problems setting it up let me know and I'll fix it for you. Best, ► Philg88 ◄

 Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
 So far, 54 people have signed up for the drive, and 33 are actively participating. If you signed up for the drive but have not participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. SiSiC stub
Hello Jjron, thanks for working a little on that stub. I am not familiar enough with standard books in English about ceramics. Any reasonable book would be good enough as reference for the three types of silicon carbide, namely the one produced by the Acheson process mentioned in the main article, the one produced by sintering SiC powder (SSiC) and the one from chemical reaction of carbon with silicon (SiSiC). To get a better situation and reduce the amount of stubs, it probably makes sense to integrate these point in a chapter of the SiC article named types of silicon carbide or so, where other types could be included: SiC drived by chemical vapour deposition, and SiC derived by pyrolysis of carbo-silane resins. Thanks for your effort on the article Airbus A330. There are some points that I would like to iron out with you. The tag {{Importance-section|date=May 2011}} just under "Entry into service", I think, could be removed because, there are no other appropriate sections for the reference about ETOPS. This is because the validation for ETOPS certification takes place just after entry into service. It wouldn't fit under "Further development" because the section header implies that another variant or major development of the A330 was being planned altogether, not the ETOPS itself. There is also a tag at "and then to 180 minutes after 50,000 flight hours.[45][clarification needed]" What exactly would you like me to do? Same with "instead of a four-engine aircraft proposed by the West Germans,[clarification needed]". I've since removed the latter tag, because your explanation "What West Germans?" is to vague. Are you wondering why it's West Germans, instead of "Germans"? Well, there wasn't a "Germany" during the Cold War; only "West Germany" and "East Germany". Please feel free to revert if deemed neccesary. If you have any other queries, please address them on the talk page. Thanks very much for your valuable effort. - Apologies, I had not noticed that it had already been trashed. I have moved my comments and your reply to here to prevent cluttering the drive page and to strike my comments.
- It may be that there is a valid case for separating to a "List of sign-off broadcasts by country" article, created from the moved material, and an AfD put on it for comment and possible deletion. This might prevent the re-addition of the material and move any discussion to the AfD process. What do you think?

- Yeah, maybe, but I put a discussion on the talkpage about it where I suggested the possibility of creating a list, but I don't believe it was responded to (not last time I looked). Another GOCE editor agreed the article needed a massive purge though. The IP just re-added the junk without response, or even an edit summary, and deleted the copyedited (basically rewritten) content in the process; I suspect creating a list would meet with the same result, except then we'd have a useless list and a useless article!
- I had also checked the edit history before doing anything, but there were no regular contributors to seek for feedback; from memory the most significant editors had ten or less edits, most of them hadn't touched it for about three years, and generally they were 'in and out' in a few days.
- Regardless, there are so many problems with that list it really doesn't belong on WP. Unsourced, unencyclopaedic, original research, with few dates (things like station sign-offs tend to change relatively regularly), and probably at least half of it was close to unintelligible. Then by having the list, the next problem becomes that it's so incomplete, that it's not funny. Not sure where there's a win anywhere in there. As I said before though, if it being reverted means it's not counted for the drive, then so be it. --jjron (talk) 13:40, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating!
There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their June drive has started.
The six-month term for our first tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. We will be accepting nominations for the second tranche of coordinators, who will also serve a six-month term. Nominations will open starting on June 5. Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive report
 Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.
50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.
During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.
Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated. Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there! Felling techniques
Hello Jjron, I am new to this so I may make mistakes. I saw the pictures you have showing the arborist felling a eucalyptus tree in Kallista, Australia and could not help wondering about the faller's techniques. I am an old forest fire fighter and a USFS Qualified Faller and I love chainsaws. Were those pictures of the faller taken for the pictures and then the arborist felled the tree a few minutes later? If those are the actual felling cuts, where is the undercut? Also, there is someone standing in a very dangerous place, though it might be the swamper who helps the faller. I am a very curious person and when I see something unusual I can't help but wonder about it. I have never heard of a faller/forest fire fighter climbing a tree to cut it down. We stayed on the ground and flagged snags that could not be felled safely. I have always admired those tree climbers, and I have been doing some small trees like that myself, though it is a bit scary until you get used to it. Was he plunge cutting to remove the undercut? - Hello Darrell. No the pictures weren't staged. The tree felling was taking place in a public picnic ground (Grants Reserve I think it's called, just out of Kallista, if you're interested in looking it up). I actually went there mainly to take photos of birds, but then they were taking down this tree as apparently it had become dangerous.
- For the record I don't know anything about tree-felling beyond common knowledge, so I can't really help out with technical details. From memory (and it's over three years ago now) the guy was just cutting straight through the tree, then moving down a section (say 10m) and doing the same again, no undercuts or anything that I can think of (I don't even really know what an undercut is, I assume the small 'wedge' cut from below done before the main cut?), but maybe he was making them.
- They had a crane there, and it was holding the top of the tree as he cut, then lifting it down a section at a time. The guys at the bottom would then help stack it up and detach the crane (you can see the cut sections in this photo). The chainsaw man would then reattach the crane at the top of the tree, climb down about 10m, and cut another section. As I said it was a public picnic area, and also just beside a fairly busy tourist road, and although the area was fenced off, I guess they had to be careful due to those things. That's also why they couldn't just bring the whole tree down in one fall I imagine. Perhaps the crane was taking the weight of the top of the tree, meaning they didn't need to do an undercut - is this possible? I always thought that guy was in a slightly dangerous position too, but I guess it was all held by chains etc, but still things can go wrong.
- I've uploaded another photo that shows a slightly more distant view, where you can see a bit clearer how the crane was holding the top of the tree as the man with the chainsaw cut. Hope that helps!

Sorry didn't get back to you before.
I've only been up a few times. The coordinates I've got are the track starts at -37.2443,148.7566, past a tree at -37.2605,148.7562, and down to a river at -37.2615,148.7583. It'd only take a couple of hours. There's also a lookout at -37.3716,148.8201 1032m (maybe that's Woolybutt mountain). 2WD is ok in the drier times of year (so I guess now they'd be ok now). I haven't been to Goolengook because the roads were blocked off the time I tried. Wish I could give more info, but I really don't know too much. There's some maps you can buy that are made by someone who lives in the area that has more specific details than Melways type maps, but I don't remember what it was called either. Hope that helps somewhat, but I'd recommend getting some other opinions. Jill Redwood runs a lodge up there and I'm sure could tell you more. Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive update
 Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.
We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.
So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.
Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives. I was researching seven years ago and I would forward what I found to Footypedia.com. Footypedia put some stuff on its boards then I suppose someone forwarded what Footypedia had onto FPF. | Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.
There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!
During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week. Regarding your comments to me. I had the urge to spew forth a response...
1) I didn't mean to insult your camera. To me it didn't look like a high quality photo. If you'd like to say I just don't know what I'm talking about, that's fine. I'm not much of a photographer so you may well be correct.
2) Halos around objects are often a result of sharpening. If that was done deliberately by your camera, that's fine. Again, we'll just fall back on I don't know what I'm talking about and just don't understand good photography.
3) Even though I don't know what I'm talking about (which happens a little more than I care to admit), almost every corner of Wikipedia is open to me and others like me. You'd have better luck adjusting yourself to that idea than in getting me to go read a book on command. Let's just hope I learn quick and don't do too much damage as I stumble through.
And 3) regardless of whatever issue you had with my edit to the photo, I still think it looks much better straight and without the extra cloud. But, I'm perfectly happy to let you have it your way on that point if it's your wish.
No hard feelings and I still think it's a beautiful photo.
