How do I recover an article that has been deleted?

[edit]

I have been blocked for G12 issues and I'm trying to fix what I have done wrong. Several of my articles have been deleted and I would like to recover them but don't know how to find them and I don't have any copies on my personal server. JoshuaLewis24! (talk) 14:47, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Before you address this, you need to be unblocked first. 331dot (talk) 14:53, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I'm sorry, but "G12" is the speedy deletion criterion for copyright violations. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously; unless you can prove that the content in question did not violate copyright and/or Wikipedia's copyright policy, such pages will not be restored. Huon (talk) 14:54, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:JoshuaLewis24!/sandbox, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. GMGtalk 14:24, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How can I recover information you deleted? I would like that page for personal information but I'm not familiar with Wikipedia enough to recover the article page once it is deleted. JoshuaLewis24! (talk) 14:36, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

J. R. Tomlinson moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, J. R. Tomlinson, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – Thjarkur (talk) 21:09, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

Hello Joshua. Please read our conflict of interest guidelines: We ask you to not directly create articles in article-space if you have a conflict of interest, instead submit the articles through the Articles for creation process (remembering to disclose your conflict of interest on the submitted article). For the articles you do create, remember to only include that which has been said in reliable secondary sources unaffiliated with the subject. Thank you. – Thjarkur (talk) 21:16, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. Request reason:

In short I don't know what I'm doing. I'm trying to write an about page on an author and apparently I'm violating G12 rules. I'm trying to figure out how to comply with the guidelines. The only written material that are not my own words are some reviews about the author's book and I believe I give proper credit to the individual. I'm currently in talks with the photographer to get permission and go through wiki commons to use head-shots of the author. One thing I may be doing wrong but don't know how to correct is that i'm writing these articles on my sandbox account and then clicking publish. Does that mean it goes for review, or am I accidentally saying this work is perfect and should go to Wikipedia? JoshuaLewis24! (talk) 14:28, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline, not an unblock request. Your request must actually request to be unblocked and address the reasons for the block. In this case, you will need to indicate that you are familiar with WP:COPYVIO and how what you did was a violation. "Publish changes" is simply functionally equivalent to "save changes" and does not "publish" what you write to the encyclopedia; it simply indicates that what you wrote will become visible to the public. 331dot (talk) 14:57, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I was blocked for continued violation of G12 or G11 and unambitious promotion for an author I represent. After repeatedly going about the wrong way to fix my mistakes I was blocked, and for good reason. I was breaking the rules over again in different ways. I understand I was in breach of copyright rules. I read the reasons for my block and I agree I was abusing them. I would like the block lifted now that I know how not to violate G12 and 11 JoshuaLewis24! (talk) 15:21, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please respond to the following questions in your next unblock appeal, explaining in your own words:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. Yamla (talk) 10:17, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Copyright is the expressed thoughts or creation of an idea or concept that the creator has rights to. Not the concept itself, but their unique take on it. Wikipedia how four degrees of licensing for both attribution and likeness. Depending on your intended use or permission given you will declare which is appropriate. International use vs domestic. Wikipedia does not allow content to be used for educational purposes only, but it is one of the degrees that is used on the internet. Wikipedia does not own any content and any material they use must be free to use. If it is not in public domain or permission has not been specifically given by the owner for any use, they will not except it. The owner will still have the original rights to that work, but anyone can use it for their own use, including commercial use. Wikipedia will not take content that the owner is reserving the rights to because they cannot promise that someone won’t use it for commercial use and does not want to be held responsible. The reason copyrighted content is not allowed on Wikipedia is because Wikipedia cannot keep content published from being used by anyone once it is there. Wikipedia is a free website where content is shared freely and wants to keep it that way. Wikipedia can use copyrighted content if the owner gives the editor permission to use that content under the required conditions that Wikipedia upholds to. The owner has died, and it has been seventy or eighty years since their passing, so the content is released under public domain. I used content from an author’s website that I represented for use on Wikipedia. To avoid violating the copyright policy I intent to not use content from the internet to use on Wikipedia, instead creating my own original content. I will only use pictures and book covers that we have permission to use or that are our own work. Since I represent these authors and to write about them is a conflict of interest, I will refrain from trying to create a page myself. I will request that a non-biased third party will write an informative page about them. JoshuaLewis24! (talk) 14:02, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I have to give you credit; that's probably the best response to that set of questions I have ever seen. Since it's evident that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia, and since you've agreed not to create articles about the authors you represent, I see no reason to leave the block in place.
