January 2024[edit]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because your username, JulianAssange4President, does not comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Thank you.
Your username references a controversy, which is not permitted. Cullen328 (talk) 07:48, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My username references my preferred presidential candidate. By definition, every presidential candidate is controversial. Unless it's against Wikipedia policy to express support for a political candidate in one's username (which I doubt), then my username complies with Wikipedia policy. JulianAssange4President (talk) 08:09, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Yes, every presidential candidate is controversial. "DonaldTrumpforPresident", "JoeBidenforPresident", even "RobertFKennedyJrforPresident" would all not be permitted. These types of usernames violate the portion of the username policy which states "Usernames that are likely to offend other contributors or cause disruption to productive Wikipedia processes or discussions, or make harmonious editing difficult or impossible to achieve; e.g. by containing profanities, or referencing highly contentious events or controversies". It's difficult to get along with other editors when you lead off with your political views by having them in your username. Assange has the added complication of being controverisal due to his activities and alleged violations of the law. You will need to change your username. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 08:37, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

.

I would have taken precisely the same action if your name was "JoeBiden4President" or "AnthonyAlbanese4PrimeMinister". Advocacy user names like this are simply not allowed on Wikipedia, no matter the cause. More broadly, political advocacy of any type is not permitted here. This is an encyclopedia and a top ten website worldwide, not a blog hosting site or a social network. Read the Neutral point of view for a start. Cullen328 (talk) 08:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. How do I request a name change if I don't have an email address tied to my Wikipedia account? The block is making it impossible for me to request a rename. JulianAssange4President (talk)
The block notice provides instructions on how you may make an unblock request that proposes a new username. 331dot (talk) 08:50, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked as a sockpuppet[edit]

Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively as a sockpuppet of User:UncomfortablySmug per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/UncomfortablySmug. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

Request reason:

In what world is having the same interests as a blocked user grounds for suspension? Either prove that I'm this other user or let me edit Wikipedia. None of my activity thus far has been disruptive, and the only "proof" you have that I'm breaking your rules is a dumb sockpuppet detector that's prone to error.
