Wanga tribe (Luhya)[edit]

Julius, one appreciates the work that you are doing on wikipedia but for some articles let other's expertise and interest precede yours. For the past 24 hours I have been going back and forth with other editors over the above article because as a Wanga I have spent considerable time compiling a simple, accurate concise article on the Wanga. If you look at the article as it is now, who are these 'ojeda' that you keep insisting the Wanga be called by? I put up a link in the previous edit that is a sum of all available info obtained from oral and internet sources. So kindly undo your edit. Thanks, Netia Shiundu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.110.125.12 (talk) 17:29, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Julius, I'm interviewing Kenyan Wikipedians and I'd love to get an interview with you since you have made such a great contribution to Kenyan topics on Wikipedia. Won't you get in touch? I'm hfordsa at gmail.com and I work for Ushahidi.Hfordsa (talk) 09:50, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Julius, you should consider starting an article on Biko Beauttah, I read about her blog lamutamu.com from the Nairobi Star and was surprised I could not find any Wiki articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.231.49.75 (talk) 08:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Njaro[edit]

My minor edits to the placename town of Njaro being near Moshi have to do with a possible name source for the mountain Kilimanjaro, which broken down means Hill (or mountain) of the Njaro, and since Kilimanjaro is volcanic, and occasionally smokes, believe this is relevant. Kiswahili Moshi means smoke Please reply to me at my Wiki page at your convenience. I appreciate your enthusiasm, and want you to understand my edit. I did not undo it, rather came to you as the source of the edit. Regards Pabobfin (talk) 18:49, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Raila Odinga[edit]

I am asking you kindly to stop removing information that is well resourced. The proper way to challenge an entry is to take it up on the discussion page. If you continue to remove information that is resourced by a valid newspaper I will have to get an admin involved. Again stop removing information just because you think it doesnt belong there. You must give more information other than "its not a valid resource" when you delete other users information. Per wiki rules that is not the correct way to edit a page on here. --Xinunus (talk) 05:24, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing sourced material. You continue to do so without using the discussion page. Next time you remove something I am reporting you to an admin. Please follow Wiki rules on challenging material posted. --Xinunus (talk) 02:39, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The information I added to Raila Odinga was from three reliable sources (a BBC article, a Voice of America article and an Africa Business news article). Judging by your other entries, and previous complaints about your changes to this page, you seem to be a Kikuyu supremacist who is bringing ethnic and tribal animosity to an information page, where it is highly inappropriate. I would be fine with deletion of the whole paragraph, but as people interested in conveying reliable information, we both should find citing Robert Mugabe's propoganda minister for reliable information about Kenya (or anything else) utterly bizarre. Perhaps we could agree on a compromise solution, where we drop the whole paragraph? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.209.22.245 (talk) 20:36, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My policy is to keep this, like any other article, as neutral as possible. I have consistently removed any biased text from this page, whether they have been added pro- or anti-Odinga editors. I agree that the whole paragraph is indeed unnecessary and it has been removed from the current version. Julius Sahara (talk) 14:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nyang’oma Kogelo, Alego, etc.[edit]

Hey Julius. I recently created a disambig. page for Alego, trying to clarify some of the information that was in Nyang’oma Kogelo. I have to say that I'm still pretty confused though. While it appears that the only constituency with this name is Alego Usonga Constituency, the Siaya, Results of Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007, and Edwin Ochieng Yinda articles seem to only refer to it as simply "Alego Constituency." In addition, I'm not even sure if the information I added to the Alego page is 100% accurate since one of the pdf links aren't working. I was wondering if you could go through these pages and check them for accuracy when you have the time. That would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Khoikhoi 09:41, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, you said here that Nyang’oma Kogelo is not part of Bondo District, but the article on the Early life and career of Barack Obama cites "The Ministry of Information and Communications, Government of Kenya." I have also heard that the village was part of Siaya District at the time of Obama's father's birth, but is now part of Bondo District. What do you think? Khoikhoi 10:02, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I believe I've made the relevant changes to correspond to that. Also, I noticed that the first links at Bondo District and Siaya District aren't working. Is that website down as well? (or perhaps it has moved?) Khoikhoi 20:10, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A final question: can you please verify this edit as well as this one? Thanks. Khoikhoi 06:23, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing sourced material[edit]

In the article Raila Odinga you're removing sourced material. I will not undo it after my last revert, ref. {{uw-3rr}}. If you have a source discrediting this, you should add the material discussing the source, not remove obvious sourced statements/pictures. Nsaa (talk) 22:30, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Hi Julius, I was wondering if you could help me with something. I'm confused as to what the most common meaning of the word "Alego" is. Does the term refer to a general region around Lake Victoria? Or is it an alternate name for Kogelo? Page 9 of Dreams from My Father says that Barack Obama's father was born "on the shores of Lake Victoria, in a place called Alego." Other references to the name gives me the impression that Alego is a village. What do you think? Khoikhoi 04:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I understand it better now. Khoikhoi 03:36, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Najib Balala[edit]

Hi I am not shore why you removed the recent updates to the page, the issues mentioned and sources are 100% verifiable complete with sources, and I believe WIKI states that Encyclopedic content must be verifiable. If the UN and BBC sources provided are not acceptable to you please help me understand which sources are acceptable, you mentioned Libel, if that is the case Najib Balala would have and is free to sue those sources. I would hate to think that your edit and removal is a personal attempt to sweep under the rug the crimes against children going on in Kenya with the Ministry and Balala’s knowledge, or you may be a political sympathiser. Which would explain why you removed everything. You may not like what was written but nevertheless it is factual and accurate Regards

Proposed new policy[edit]

As a recent contributor to Deaths in 2009, you may be able to help decide on a proposed new policy. It is proposed that:

A month should be deleted from the "Deaths in [CURRENT YEAR]" page ONE WEEK after the month ends.

Please opine at Talk:Deaths_in_2009#Proposed new policy. Don't just say

  • Support.

or

  • Oppose.

Also state your reasons and participate in the discussion. Michael Hardy (talk) 16:38, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Constituencies[edit]

Hi, I have seen that you have recently created some articles about Kenyan constituencies. While I appreciate your work, I would like to suggest you to rename these articles to reflect their origin and to match the system used with other countries (see for example Dingle (Parliament of Ireland constituency), Helston (UK Parliament constituency), Wigtownshire (Parliament of Scotland constituency), Kapiri Mposhi (Zambian constituency), Berekum (Ghana parliament constituency) or Italian Islands (European Parliament constituency) ). Perhaps Somewhere (Kenyan parliament constituency) or Somewhere (Parliament of Kenya constituency) could be usefull solutions. Best wishes

Ice Hockey in Mali[edit]

Hi Julius. You proposed deletion for article Ice Hockey in Mali, but what I wroted into that article is real information. I live in Bamako, Mali and I have watched the Mali's ice hockey league since 1972. I know that article may sound like a hoax, but believe me, it's true. Please don't propose for deletion for that article anymore. I will try to search information about Ice hockey in Mali, and when I find something, I will surely add it.

Luge team from Bemuda[edit]

Similarly, hot and steamy Bemuda IIRC had a team practicing for Luge, which is an ice cold sport. The practice field in Bemuda was necessarily limited in realism but they did the best that they could. The Bemuda team probably came last, but competing at all was a source of pride.

BTW, When I say Luge I might mean Bobsleigh.

Tabletop (talk) 14:31, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your revert of Kenya Emergency 1952[edit]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:15, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Cricket Simulator has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

NN software. References appear to be either to the hosting site or to forum posts

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Unethical deletion of other Users inputs[edit]

I am asking you kindly to stop removing information that is well resourced. The proper way to challenge an entry is to take it up on the discussion page. If you continue to remove information that is resourced by a valid newspaper and other reliable sources I will have to get a senior administrator involved. Again stop removing information just because you think it doesnt belong there. You must give more information other than "its not a valid resource" when you delete other users information. Per wiki rules that is not the correct way to edit a page on here. Please adhere to Wikipedia ethics or imma get a senior adminitrator involved. The Wikimedia Foundation is wooing new editors and deleting their entries without due explanation does more harm than any good. Most newbies who have left after their first edits have cited deletion of their works as a major factor to their departure from editting. Invitation to workshops on editing Wikipedia[edit]

Dear Julius Sahara,

We are a team of researchers at the University of Oxford and AU Sharjah, researching the experiences of editors of content about the Arab world on Wikipedia. We are interested in your experiences of editing Wikipedia and are organising two events that we think you would be an excellent contributor to.

First, we are hosting an online wiki focus group about contributing to Wikipedia in Arabic and to articles about the Middle East and North Africa. We are interested in what barriers you perceive to exist in Wikipedia, how articles can be made better and generally what can be done to expand and improve Arabic Wikipedia and Wikipedia articles about the Arab world. This discussion will take place on a MediaWiki hosted at our institution and be available in English and Arabic. We will allow users to create their own discussion pages in addition to our discussions.

Second, we are hosting face-to-face workshops in Cairo from 21st-22nd October 2012. If you are interested in this we should be able to pay travel and accommodation costs for up to twenty participants. This workshop will cover similar themes to the online discussion but will allow participants to meet one another and benefit from being together.

We will take care of the organization and planning and all you have to do is show up and be ready to discuss. But if you would like to help shape some of the discussion themes in advance, please let us know. We have booked time in the workshops for Wikipedian-led discussions.

More details can be found by expanding our “Frequently Asked Questions” below.

We would be delighted to welcome you to either (or both) event. Please let us know (wikiproject@oii.ox.ac.uk) if you would like the opportunity to participate and we can send you more details.

Sincerely,

Mark, Bernie, Ilhem, Ali, Ahmed, and Heather

What ever happened to the great Julius Sahara? I used to enjoy your work on all things Kenyan, but now you have gone SFB 16:25, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SillyFolkBoy! I'm not gone, just busy in my real life... yet can't believe even myself it's over two years since my last edit! Still intend to contribute WP, hopefully sooner than later :) Nice to see you still actively hanging around Julius Sahara (talk) 18:12, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear it. I hope you're busy with good things! There is no shame moving on to other things to make the most of your life. I think I'm coming to a similar situation at myself now, which is sad in some ways but exciting in others! Hope you're doing well. SFB 20:36, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dandora requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://softkenya.com/nairobi/dandora/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Anarchyte 10:28, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
